A teenager was attacked in Minneapolis, by a crazy who bit him several times. The victim was a high school wrestler who fought him off. The perp was not charged at all, because the kid "could defend himself".
I think it would be wrong to report such crimes as typical of Black behavior. But they happen, and they happen a lot. I think it is typical liberal media behavior to downplay or completely ignore such crimes. I try not to make any sweeping judgments on young Black men, but this is stereotypical liberal media behavior.

They're not that rare. What's especially rare is the whole crime from beginning to end was caught on camera. You may think they're rare BECAUSE they're not reported on.

I think it's a national story because a refugee from a war zone was murdered on a public bus in our allegedly "safer" country. She might have been safer in Ukraine after all.
The second element of the story is also of national concern, that people who are violent and mentally ill are routinely released back into the public. That's a policy which needs to be changed.
Eventually, regular people will have had enough of this shit. And then it's going to get very ugly.

Yes, a compelling contrast to consider: she left a conflict only to arrive at a novel conflict where she was murdered in an extraordinarily gruesome fashion... in public, in front of witnesses, by a lunatic who was released many times with the premise of rehabilitative relief.

This is a common fear in most urban transit systems. I was a regular passenger on the Bay Area BART system, a strap-hanging commuter. This scenario was a typical fear. Thankfully the homeless insane were for the most part just annoying. After 9-10pm the perception of danger increased, as did the annoyance, from obvious ODs to police calls delaying the trains.

I concur. I want to see violent felons killed by their intended victims on their very first offense, if possible.
Failing that, lynched on the spot by a mob of eyewitness bystanders.
Failing that, a mandatory 20 years without parole on the first offense, and mandatory death on the second offense.
Let's have truly draconian punishment like Singapore. Maybe even caning, too. I propose that we perform the whippings and executions in the juvenile jails, and force the inmates to watch each one.

Black women and girls suffer some of the highest rates of rape, and, just as I was (for other reasons), they are far too frequently discouraged from demanding justice when their assailant is black, which is virtually always the case for them. I spent decades advocating for all victims of rape in Atlanta, through sheer demographics mostly black victims, nearly none of whom received justice. As I did not, and was labeled a racist for even trying.
As one of those horrible women who was raped while white (and asleep in my bed when a black stranger broke in), I think I'll just defer to Ronald to speak for me regarding my experience of violent sex crime. He's so good at reading women's minds. Maybe we should let him speak for all women and other crime victims, while we clam up our impertinent mouths.
With 35 years of writing, lobbying, and direct service provision, I'm a subject expert, but surely Ronald can do it far better than I.
Decades ago, I wrote a readable dissertation about race and rape in the media, social movements, and fiction and films. I got publication offers but was too busy trying to keep this animal from being released yet again to pursue them.

I’m reading that Decarlos Brown was a schizophrenic. Can anyone confirm this? Do we know who diagnosed him and when? And what sort of parole board releases a schizophrenic back into the general population? Even if he hadn’t been a violent schizophrenic (which, alas, he was) a schizophrenic can’t possibly take care of themselves, can they?

Big Mike: Brown did several years in prison and was apparently diagnosed with schizophrenia while inside, because the diagnosis was cited in his multiple arrests after his release. His latest release from custody (after he assured the facility several times that he was being controlled by aliens) was courtesy of a black female magistrate who announced that he PROMISED that he'd show up for hearings. Guess he didn't mention anything about not killing anyone, The black female mayor of Charlotte has expressed her concerns for his mental health.
Further to the above, it has been noted that the magistrate who turned the perp loose has a side hustle running a drug and mental health facility; I find nothing indicating that she found his repeated assurances of foreign substances in his body controlling him to be a matter for concern or custodial care. Schizophrenics can function on their own but usually require supervision, regular contact with a mental health professional and a drug regimen to handle their delusions. The main problem is that they rarely stick with the drugs. Or the supervision. And institutionalizing violent mentals is currently close to impossible, thanks to the compassion of progressives.
