ADDED: Also in that article: "Harris portrayed [Josh] Shapiro as overly ambitious and confident, a characterization that a Shapiro spokesman, Manuel Bonder, called 'simply ridiculous.'" What's wrong with being ambitious and confident... other than the worry that he'd outshine her? Anyone capable of serving as President is going to be "ambitious and confident." I assume Bonder mean it's ridiculous to think those qualities are bad and not it's ridiculous to think Shapiro has them.

That's news in general. The news claims to know what is important.
I find it surprising that some politically intelligent people still think she has even the slightest chance of being the Democratic presidential candidate for 2028.
Newsome will be her rival in 2028. So, making him look bad is job 1.
I'll say this for Newsome, at least he was really hiking. And not "Hiking the Appalachian Trail". Which of course shows what clowns the Republicans are compared to the Democrats. Serious Pols vs. Not serious. Even more incredible - Republicans in SC voted him into Congress after he left the Governorship. Then got rid of him, when predictably turned out to be a RINO flake.
I don't like Gavin, but think more of him after reading his comments to Harris.
Harris seems to think that she is a power player, when she is really just a pawn that was occasionally useful.
Assuming Gavin runs, his strategy will have to be that he never heard of California.

Kamala managed to have a successful political career as trophy black woman candidate despite lack of true talent, leadership skills, or strategic thinking. Appalling to think America nearly had its first woman president who traded on her looks and sexual availability for political advancement and higher political office.
Kamala's book excerpts suggest she still believes her relative success was earned, not gifted to her on silver platter. Kamala's book is proverbial "burning down the house" revenge foisted upon all the national democratic leaders who failed to deliver her the presidency despite her own significant failings and obvious shortcomings apparent during her campaign.
Yet WPO reader comments indicate democratic party membership still hasn't learned much from Kamala's defeat in 2024. The Silent Majority rejected Kamala, rejected her progressive liberal politics, rejected Biden administration's harmful governance.
Glad the loser picked another loser. Walz is creepy corrupt and a compete loser.

Regarding Harris’s VP choice of Walz, one think she could have had the pick of the litter, but I suspect the truly good candidates for VP informed the campaign they weren’t interested. Why go down in flames with this loser.

Harris perceived Shapiro has overly ambitious and confident because that's how she perceives Jews.
Trivial comments are what Gavin Newsom is best at.
Kamala's just trying to be what she can be, unburdened by what has been.
Harris has as much chance now to become President as Mike Pence.
It's amazing how reasonable, decently intelligent people can see things with their own eyes, but they are forbidden from saying it due to media narrative, groupthink, peer pressure, shaming, job/position loss, etc.:
Joe Biden was/is mentally deteriorating and unfit to be President.
Kamala Harris is unlikable, difficult to work with, and unqualified to be President.
The first sentence is now universally believed to be true. The 2nd is probably believed by the vast majority.
But in 2024, you absolutely could NOT say these things without being shunned, hated, and dismissed. If you did say them, you'd probably be called a racist and misogynist. Harris was even being compared to Barack Obama in August/September 2024.
Political ideology creates cognitive biases that prevent you from thinking clearly. We should all be aware of that and seek unbiased truth.

None of these people mentioned are going to be involved in 2028 except that some of them may be cannon fodder during the first debates that the new challengers can punch up to show they are new and different. Most are just neoliberal/neoconservative apparatchiks that are now all past their sell through dates.
And Kamala Harris owes the Democratic Washington establishment nothing. She did pretty well considering the Biden administration was a slow-motion train wreck. She should go about fashioning a new life.

Newsom was hiking and "at that exact same moment" he was working with his team to put out a statement? Newsom is the guy who told a woman whose house had burned down that he was on the phone with the President. He's very comfortable lying -- for him it's easier than telling the truth -- but not necessarily good at it.
That reference to Shapiro does sound like a Jewish stereotype. But before we pounce on Harris, we might remember who she's married to. We might also consider that close analysis is bound to be only approximate if we start with second-hand retellings, rather than with the original and exact quotations.
Pretty much all successful politicians are ambitious, just as they're all more or less narcissistic and necessarily "liars" to one degree or another. Some politicians hide it well. Others don't. Ambition comes and goes, though. It can lie dormant for years and then spark up.
Shapiro is young for a politician, so his ambition may still be active and hard to miss. Like many VP, Harris felt left out by the White House, and so, like many VPs, when she ran for president herself, she didn't want anyone too driven or too competent pushing her out of the way again.

I know you’re just kidding as you’ve been fleeing, in these pages, from the unbiased truth as long as you’ve been here.
But the Lia Thomas Effect is real. If you could look at that photo of him and the second and third-place swimmers and say, “yeah, that’s OK”, then you’re forever disqualified from being taken seriously about anything ever again. If you recognize that it’s not OK but ideological conformity inhibits you from saying so, then your ideology is similarly disqualified.
I read The Emperor’s New Clothes when I was about nine years old. I understood the point but dismissed it as there was no way anyone could be that stupid.
AOC should take care to be historically correct and mention that the KKK and Jim Crow were inventions of the Democrat Party.
Does she cover the news breaking about Doug beating up a lady in Paris? How did that effect the campaign? How did she put on a brave face through the news cycle? Did anyone on her team try to contact the accuser?
I'm betting its the elephant in the room that was unworthy of a chapter.
