How is it possible to have enough security when malefactors are capable of attempting to infiltrate security — either by faking being a member of law enforcement or by managing to become a member?

Snipers generally require institutional access or a skill set that is rather limited and most of the people who have it require a level of discipline that makes depravity unlikely.

The killer was a person of intelligence and superior marksmanship skills. It's almost impossible for a second tier celebrity to have sufficient security to protect against such a person. You can have bodyguards to protect you against the crazies, but this killing was well planned and executed.......It was well planned, but not sufficiently thought out. Kirk has received a quantum jump in fame and status. And this hasn't done much for transgender tolerance. I used to think of them as people with problems. Now I think of them as dangerous people with problems.......The killer was apparently able to plot out a murder but unable to foresee the consequences of that murder.
On a per capita basis, I don't think the Jews produce more assholes than other ethnic groups. However, it must be admitted that their assholes are overachievers. On the plus side, their benign members are also overachievers, but Harvey Weinstein is more fun to read about than Jonas Salk.

Kirk was by far the most likely and the easiest. He was very aware of that fact, having received thousands of death threats. He also started to wear bullet proof vests at his events.
Some of people here need to increase your reading comprehension level. Only here, could I comment on why security was lax at the college where he was shot, and somehow have it turned into "Rcocean attacks Charlie Kirk, says he was a nobody".
Usually people try to assassinate people with power, Kirk didn't have any. He was just a guy who talked and had political opinions. Glenn Beck and Hannity probably influence more people. And his opinions were just standard Republican/NeoCon. He wasn't changing society. He was just supporting MAGA/Conservative/NeoCon policies.
He was good at what he did. He shouldn't been killed. But in six months nobody will be talking about him. Very few, except for political sophisticates were talking about him prior to 9-10-25.

"top level security designation akin to the Super Bowl" doesn't say much. I easily got into a secure area prior to the Super Bowl in Santa Clara several years ago. I literally wasn't even trying, and it wasn't until I was leaving the area that someone noticed.
RCOCEAN, I think you have it exactly backwards. People like Beck and Hannity are talking to people who are mostly in their last decades, and already set, and so they are not changing any minds. Kirk and his followers are changing millions around the world, and very young people who will have many decades of effect on politics, morality and the culture. Even if Kirk's name was forgotten, his influence is already locked in and growing.
Protection details have to get it right every time. The bad guys only have to get it right once.
So far out of the three attempts that we know about the bad guys have succeed once and almost twice. Not real impressive on the part of the protectors.

4. He knows that he can drop from that roof to an unobstructed escape route behind the building* and so he thinks he will escape since nothing in his past and nothing in weapons purchase records connects him to the attack.
So I think very high level planners, like the Iranians but not necessarily them, are working with recruiters who are Commie professors or maybe adjuncts at community tech colleges and with event security who establish lines of sight and escape routes.
The assassins were found because these were real shootings, not video games and the police are much more effective than people realize. This kind of attack is the effective end of the shooter's life and those who tell him he'll get away because he's clever are just lying to get him to be the one whose life is destroyed.
I'm sure the FBI has figured this out but they don't want to discuss it for reasons, IDK.
* At Butler there were police behind the building because the crowd had spotted the man on the roof. But the plan was for the Secret Service to look out the windows at the front of the building and for the police to be elsewhere.
