"Donald Trump announced the External Revenue Service and his goal is very simple: To ABOLISH the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and let all the outsiders pay."

I simply cannot wait for everyone to start defending the IRS and demanding that they have their income stolen from them at gunpoint.

Wilbur म्हणाले...

What planet are these people?
Try Uranus.

Mark म्हणाले...

So he wants cruise ships to pay alcohol taxes while in International waters?

That won't pay for the new Air Force One planes Trump says he needs.

R C Belaire म्हणाले...

Commendable, but not a chance in Hell. Lower tax rates at best.

tim maguire म्हणाले...

It’s fun to talk about, but it’s inconceivable to me that they can raise enough money that way. Streamline the government, pay down the debt, and then reduce taxes.

If, at the end of the rainbow, the finances work out to where the IRS can be eliminated, great. But right now it’s a pipe dream. A distraction. (Misdirection?)

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Is Trump's overarching concept "screw the outsiders"?

Leland म्हणाले...

Chris, you have it wrong. They'll defend the IRS as the reason the government needs our personal data to go through.

America First, Ann. America First…

rehajm म्हणाले...

There’s an element of that idea that’s quite sane and practical. Non-NYT economist consensus advocates abolishing income tax in favor of VAT. Tariffs then essentially a sales tax…

Mary Beth म्हणाले...

I'll just sit and wait for the eventual compromise. I'm hoping it's a flat tax.

Dave Begley म्हणाले...

Trump’s plan is amazing. We really have never seen anything like it. So many EO’s and DOGE news that the Left can’t effectively respond. We got that fake USAID person on 60 Minutes. Recall that during the first term it was, Russia, Russia, Russia 24/7. With so much repetition, many people believed that Trump was a Russian agent.

Some might call this Trump’s blitzkreig, but not me!

Bemac म्हणाले...

I recall a Monty Python one-liner about taxing foreigners living abroad.

Chris म्हणाले...

@Dave Begley - um... they are back to Russia Russia Russia again because trump wants to end the war in Ukraine.

Mike (MJB Wolf) म्हणाले...

When our federal government did operate this way, prior to 1913, it was a much smaller thing to finance. That's why Wilson wanted to "temporarily" tax the income of "wealthy" individuals (yes the "cover story" has remained the same!), because he had big plans to make government bigger and would need more dollars to do so.

Temujin म्हणाले...

Chris said it at the beginning comment. I cannot wait for them to start defending the IRS and its employees. In about 3...2...1. It'll start happening this afternoon. We'll see a quick story on a teary IRS employee telling us she was proud to serve the American people. (not sure what is meant by 'serve'). How she loved her job. And now she isn't sure how she will afford to dine at the new tapas restaurant in the city...I mean...her car payments.

Trump is truly a Master Operator. Four years ago he had these people wearing pussy hats while parading around our major cities. That was more a reaction to him than his prodding.

But these days, due to his actions, he's got the same people, sans pussy hats, parading around our cities- some screaming, some dancing and singing- all in the cause to defend corruption, fraud, waste, and massive global grift. They are literally giving speeches defending the corruption every American knows to their bone is taking place.

And now this. They'll be out there decrying the poor IRS and it's picked upon employees. You could literally start a drinking game having a shot every time you hear a Democrat say they are doing this as a favor to Billionaires, completely ignoring the fact that it might just allow everyone to keep more of their own money.

There are those who think your money belongs to them. We colloquially refer to them as 'Congress'.

Years ago, I read an article about the VAT. It’s the worst of all worlds. The VAT was described as a bureaucratic nightmare of regulations, is applied at all levels of production, and is so convoluted it was incomprehensible to consumers. A flat tax is the only reasonable way forward. If Congress passed a national sales tax law as some advocate and abolish the income tax, they must also repeal the 16th Amendment. If they don’t, it’s as certain as tomorrow's sunrise that an “emergency” of some sort would be declared and the income tax would be back, on a “temporary” basis, of course. We’d then be stuck with both taxes.

jim म्हणाले...

Nice video. crude propaganda for simpletons. thanks, getting there.

Lazarus म्हणाले...

That's not going to happen. Even if you cut out all the "waste, fraud, and mismanagement," the federal government has too many commitments to do without an income tax.

Is Trump's overarching concept "screw the outsiders"?

Semantics again. A more objective description would be "make the foreigner pay." Of course it's not going to work. We aren't going to be the market that everyone wants to break into forever, and our industry would become even less competitive behind tariff walls, but maybe we could outgrow the word games.

jim म्हणाले...

Prior to 1913, the US was a "developing country". High tariffs did make some sense, and produced a lot of revenue. Then along came Ford.

Breezy म्हणाले...

The US would be akin to a global store front. Foreigners buy our unparalleled quality stuff and we live off the profits. To work, I imagine the Federal govt would have to be much smaller, requiring less money to operate. Interesting concept if the numbers work out over the long term.

Josephbleau म्हणाले...

“ Is Trump's overarching concept "screw the outsiders"?”

The goal of almost every nation is to have privileged access to the US market. This was given freely after ww2 to rebuild European and Asian countries. These countries, and Canada and Mexico now think they have a perpetual right to set high tariffs and the US has to have open markets. Well, times change. Especially when you act like an insufferable bitch toward America, but demand trade advantage.

Like a 16 year old child, Europe and China say, where is my trust fund, old man.

Um. Yes. Make America Great Again.

Bob Boyd म्हणाले...

Legislators won't like abolishing the IRS. Jiggering with the tax code every year is probably the most lucrative service they provide to supporters.

TreeJoe म्हणाले...

Disclosure: I've had good experiences with the IRS, personally.

I have no idea why in 2025 we do taxes the way we do. EVERYTHING I DO FINANCIALLY IS TRACKED and centrally reported. My W2s, every part of my financial portfolio, my mortgage payments, the sale of a rental property in another state (and I had to pay state income taxes at the point of sale), I could go on.

Yet despite all the mechanisms in place, I have to personally assemble disparate records, match them up, enter them manually into my own preferred tax preparation workflow, add non-reported information, and then submit....and hope it matches what was centrally reported to the IRS and State because I can't actually see what they already have in their records.

Zero. Sense.

My understanding is other countries use their central reporting to basically prepare taxes for people and then offer them an ability to provide additional information or correct issues. That makes sense to me.

End rant.

Bob Boyd म्हणाले...

Is Trump's overarching concept "screw the outsiders"?

I'd say it's more like, "America needs a deworming, a colon cleanse and to search itself for ticks".

Wa St Blogger म्हणाले...

Trump doesn't have to eliminate income tax completely to eliminate the IRS. A simple, post-card form with a simple rate structure could mean that the staff necessary to track and collect can be done with a group under another agency. It's sort of a dodge, but doable. I've listed to some people who think that it is possible to eliminate income tax all together by growing the economy enough.

Hassayamper म्हणाले...

The accounting profession will flood Capitol Hill with cash to ensure this doesn't happen.

Just for the sake of accuracy, the United States has been the world's largest national economy in terms of GDP since around 1890. By then, the US economy was already the most productive in the world, producing twice as much as its closest competitor, Great Britain.

Wilbur म्हणाले...

If you want to hear a Leftist scream, ask him about insituting the flat tax.
"The rich can afford to pay more!!!!!" When you explain that under a flat tax they, of course, would pay more, it just fails to register with them how that is possible.

Careful. A bridge too far.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/tax-consumption-through-a-vat-and-voila-1504550331

if we could eliminate other forms of taxation like income, VAT is the way to go and it’s not even close…

MaxedOutMama म्हणाले...

This is not realistic, but cutting income taxes to make them lower and flatter and establishing a VAT tax is probably in our future.

Jupiter म्हणाले...

"Is Trump's overarching concept "screw the outsiders"?"
That might be the surface appeal. But Trump certainly understands that tariffs are included in the price of goods, and therefore fall upon the consumer. But for that reason, a tariff is a consumption tax, like the sales tax, which means that you can avoid it if you are so inclined. Only those who choose to spend must pay. And because it falls only on imported goods, it favors American manufacturers, and therefore American jobs.

Jupiter म्हणाले...

"It’s fun to talk about, but it’s inconceivable to me that they can raise enough money that way."
Define "enough".

Mike (MJB Wolf) म्हणाले...

No VAT. As said already by others, one that is established they'll want the income tax back "just for the rich" and we'll be twice as worse off as we are now.

rehajm म्हणाले...

Yes Mike. The pols would be happy to add VAT to all the other forms of taxation but to trade and eliminate income tax is probably ootq

rehajm म्हणाले...

…then. again I didn’t think any of them would let Trump be President again. DoGE is supposed to be gone by March according to me. Why I don’t make predictions🤪

He's got them defending toll roads, so yea, that's going to happen.

Lance म्हणाले...

Borrowing is the problem. Eliminate the borrowing, then lower taxes.

n.n म्हणाले...

The government only has to be concerned with fiscal policies and economics that force progressive prices and availability in America, first, and globally, second.

n.n म्हणाले...

Addressing progressive, chronic conditions will cure the Obamacares debt forcing progressive prices, an insidious leaching of productivity gains and human health. A "burden", indeed, which should be aborted, along with Democratic dark debt driving Diversity, planned parenthood, ethnic Springs, coups, etc.

KellyM म्हणाले...

I suspect this is just a bargaining position for Trump. Shoot for the moon and then negotiate back to something both 'reasonable' and workable. As much as I'd like to see the entire IRS structure eliminated (and the earth salted) we all know that's not likely to happen. Nevertheless, it freaks out the pols and hangers on and that's fun.

"Is Trump's overarching concept "screw the outsiders"?"

Based on the video clip, he's talking about getting money from the outsiders to replace what the insiders are currently paying in taxes.

So... rephrasing your question:

"Is Trump's overarching concept "stop screwing the insiders"?"

I'm for that. How about you?
