1. Chinese hacking and successful penetration of corporate and government computer systems has increased dramatically in the last year (including Treasury Department acknowledged this week).
2. We used to have excellent tech reporting from dedicated sites like Wired, where I believe I first saw the ugly details of what TikTok actually did behind the facade. My prediction is, any Chinese app that comes out to fill the gaps left by TikTok will not be designed to capture less data from its users, but more, and with greater stealth. If we were so concerned about "Chinese Foreign influence" we wouldn't allow Chinese citizens to work in our labs, high tech firm, and RD faciliites. Nor would be allow Chinese dual citizens to lobby or work for our Congessmen.
Or allow millions of foreigners to pour accross our borders and vote in elections.

But we dont. And suddenly, a social media platform is the danger. We know who was really behind this. First, the American group that wants to buy Tik Tok on the cheap. Second, the ADL and other Leftists who hated Tik Tok for allowing free speech The Israel media has been disussing the "TIk TOK problem" ever since October 2023.

Paddy O म्हणाले...: Yep! I have a 12 and 10yr old. Both have phones but only my 12yr old has a line connected to it. Neither have any interest in tiktok. My 12yr old is currently halfway through the unabridged Les Miserables (PRINT version) and my son does spend a lot of time with Roblox but also is a very advanced reader. Both are athletic. We sort of have screen time limits and I have Family Link and keep watch but they just don't care about the online obsessed apps. Weel my daughter loves the Golden State Warriors so does watch a lot of NBA.com

They just have very different interests than what I here are out there. And we talk to them a lot. There's a lot of bad stuff out there, too much to police so teaching kids to discern is key and to have other interests. But I am definitely alert to anything that tries to get info from them. We've been complacent for a long time -- with the fall of the USSR 35 years ago many people became optimistic about a world of sharing, peace, and openness. Then, we returned to a classic Great Power conflict with the US, Russia, China, and a penitent post-WW2 EU as the major players.

Other photos of the Black Sea dachas and hard currency stores available to party officials might also help the doe-eyed understand the true nature of those social systems.

That too disappeared from the public eye and he was allowed to return to Iran. A valid question is, who is protecting and suppressing this info and why ? Maybe some of the deep state people should be coerced into answering questions. Particularly since the bulk of them are democrats and the people involved are/were democrats.
