"In the manifesto, called 'War Against Humanity,' the author writes that they have 'grown to hate people, and society' and calls their parents 'scum.'"

"The author also writes that they acquired weapons 'by lies and manipulation, and my father's stupidity' and describes wanting to die by suicide, but feeling like carrying out a shooting was 'better for evolution rather than just one stupid boring suicide.'"

Writes Newsweek, in "Natalie Rupnow's Reported Manifesto: What We Know" (about the school shooting that took place in my city yesterday).

The use of the word "scum" in a manifesto makes me think of "SCUM Manifesto," a 1967 feminist document. I discussed it back in 2017, when Facebook was banning some women who wrote about men as "scum." The "SCUM Manifesto" begins: "'Life' in this 'society' being, at best, an utter bore and no aspect of 'society' being at all relevant to women, there remains to civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking females only to overthrow the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete automation and eliminate the male sex."

And yet, this new manifesto — what I'm seeing of it, anyway — uses the language of gender neutrality: "Humanity... people... society... parents." There is, however, "father." I see that Newsweek is using they/them pronouns for the killer.

Newsweek also reports President Joe Biden's hasty response: "We need Congress to act. Now. From Newtown to Uvalde, Parkland to Madison.... Congress must pass commonsense gun safety laws: Universal background checks. A national red flag law. A ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines...."

But when he pardoned his son Hunter for violating existing gun laws, Joe Biden attacked the prosecution as unfair and biased. One might have thought he'd refrain from calling for more gun laws when he so recently and conspicuously treated a gun law as not justifying enforcement. And yet didn't we all expect it — expect that next time there's a school shooting, Joe would indignantly cry out for more gun laws? #hypocrisy

Where is the evidence to support this thought? Why would anybody believe Biden has morals or fear of being viewed as hypocritical? When has the Left ever missed an opportunity to push their gun control agenda? I find it hard to believe the professor is this naive.

There were many Biden supporters who touted him as highly principled. See my post about the NYT article "'How Biden Changed His Mind on Pardoning Hunter: ‘Time to End All of This’/The threat of a retribution-focused Trump administration and his son’s looming sentencings prompted the president to abandon a promise not to get involved in Hunter Biden’s legal problems."

The best argument in favor of guns came from the left and Biden in 2020 to 2022: Defund the Police plus COVID lockdowns = ineffective government. The pro-gun case has been further assisted by by Ukraine, Gaza Oct. 7, and the deranged drugged-up victims of Obamacame's sketchy and nonsensical medical treatments (transgender or otherwise).

Hypocrisy? Biden lacks the cogntive ability to hold any political position these days. New tag: "Elder Abuse" Every Democratic policy action comes from the back room. All Biden anti-gun stuff all comes from the mouth and direction of Michael Bloomberg; see his Everytown for Gun Safety. Per his 2015 leaked quote:

"95% of your murders and murderers and murder victims fit one M.O. You can just take the description and Xerox it and pass it out to all the cops. They are male minorities 15 to 25."

He continues: "That's true in New York. That's true in virtually every city in America. And that's where the real crime is. You've got to get the guns out of the hands of the people that are getting killed."

Bloomberg's idea of a solution? Flooding minority neighborhoods with law enforcement.

"People say, 'Oh my God, you are arresting kids for marijuana who are all minorities.' Yes, that's true. Why? Because we put all the cops in the minority neighborhoods. Yes, that's true. Why'd we do it? Because that's where all the crime is. And the way you should get the guns out of the kids' hands is throw them against the wall and frisk them," Bloomberg says.

I dislike Joe Biden but this seems a pretty lame and unfair attack on his statement. He wasn't wrong in claiming Hunter's prosecution for purchasing paperwork violations for a gun he no longer possessed was political motivated. The hypocrisy was in the claim the political motivation wasn't the Biden Just-Us Department run by Merrick Garland finding the least serious and politically damaging (to Joe) crimes to charge him. At least the liberals are being somewhat honest now and openly saying their objective is to remove all guns from the hands of law-abiding citizens by any means necessary.

In Chicago on December 12 and 13thfour black and one Hispanic men were shot and killed (Chicago Tribune).

Jaq म्हणाले...

He brandished the weapon in a restaurant, which is why the paperwork violation became relevant. He could have pled guilty and the normal course of the case would have been referral to treatment for drugs, but instead he tried to wangle his guilty plea into a complete immunity from investigation. It's not quite as simple as you make it sound by simply ignoring the facts in the case.

"Time to end all of this" sounds remarkably similar to the email that Burisma sent to Hunter about two weeks before The Big Guy got Burisma's prosecutor fired through use of the powers of his office as Vice President.

Biden isn't actually involved in making any of these statements himself. Note too that Biden's handlers did not call for gun control after the shooting death of the health insurance executive. They're fine with gun violence when it suits their politics.

And of course for this kid to have this gun was already a violation of various laws.

It looks like some of the comments I had in mind when I wrote the above are disappearing.

Be careful what you wish for when cheering on zealous enforcement of paperwork. That's got the potential to catch a lot more people making honest attempts to comply than the complete scofflaws. As I alluded, Hunter could have been charged with a lot of crimes but the ones selected were the least damaging. That he blew up the deal trying to accomplish other objectives doesn't change that.

As for Chicago crime states, scroll the list. There's an average of nearly 2 gun homicides a day, and my understanding is that other major cities with equally strict gun control are similar. Biden et al could pick any random day with a body count equal to the shooting in Madison to call for effective enforcement of illegal gun possession in those cities. But statements (and the crazies) don't come out until the victims are white kids and you can blame white parents.

On the other hand, there may be no hypocrisy here. Maybe Biden is just a meat puppet that speaks and acts with no will of its own. According to a recent James O'Keefe exposé, Joe Biden is as dead as a moving, breathing, speaking human can be. At least that's what a certain White House National Security assistant called Henry Appel has said. Whatever he says or does, whatever document he signs is meaningless to the mere husk of a man Biden has become. His words and actions serve the interests of the puppeteers alone.

On the other other hand, if Henry Appel works in the Biden White House, how can he be trusted to say anything true?

Chicago: most guns used in Chicago crimes are not lawfully held by the criminal committing said crime. Some of those gun are acquired by proxy buyers, many of those guns were stolen from other people who had lawful ownership. Note that many Chicago public schools have metal detectors at entries, to prevent students from bringing weapons to school.

Stricter gun laws: code for "no gun ownership unless you're a registered hunter/farmer", to remove lawful gun possession of weapons from most citizens. Our constitution stipulates citizens are allowed gun ownership; progressive-liberals still don't have legal right to overrule Constitution, but we're getting there re: gun ownership restrictions and censorship of free speech.

Juvenile shooters: MSM forgets to note juveniles are not lawful gun owners, so "stricter gun laws" largely irrelevant to preventing US school shootings.

Biden pardon of son Hunter: flagrant abuse of presidential pardon, intended solely to protect Joe Biden from federal prosecution of his financial crimes (evasion of income tax) and treasonous acts (acceptance of foreign bribes and acting as unregistered agent of foreign countries via son as proxy). Flouting the federal gun regulations by pardon was minor detail of larger goal of protecting Joe from "known and unknown crimes committed".

On Hunter Biden, he was guilty. It was crystal clear he was guilty. He even negotiated a plea bargain accepting his guilt for a reduced sentence....except the Judge called out that the plea bargain offered blanket immunity from prosecution for unnamed crimes committed over a long period of time.

In other words, Biden's DOJ attempted to achieve the exact same thing via a plea bargain agreement as Biden was ultimately forced to do via Presidential powers.

There's no isolated incident here. There's no exception. And it has little to do with Hunter Biden's gun law violation. They sought a way to make Hunter immune for past crimes and do it in a way that wasn't public; when that failed, they did it in a way that is public and blames it on Trump.

This is plain day stuff.

The liberal/left doesn't want to enforce criminal laws or put crooks in jail. But they need a response, and talking points, every time a criminal does something bad or kills someone. So, they've come up with a talking point: "The guns are to blame". "Outlaw Guns".

The purpose is to have a response and do nothing about punishing criminals or making society safer. The liberal/left used to say "We need to get to the root cause of crime". But everyone now knows that BS, so they skip that part.
Biden just pardoned and commuted (sic) the sentences for over 1500 criminals. They were Non-violent, but many of them had committed fraud and stole millions of $$. One was responsible for selling a particularly dangerous type of meth, which killed several drug users.

Biden justification was we need to stop punishing people for non-violent crimes. We put too many people in jail. As Althouse points out, if you don't enforce the gun laws, then crying for "gun control" is meaningless. And IMO, that is why the liberal/left does it. Its their response to crime, that actually does nothing.

It was enough to know from the few pages that were released early on that the Nashville shooter hated the "normal" (or in her eyes privileged), (at least nominally) Christian white kids at the school. Was a closer look into her psyche really needed or beneficial? I suppose if someone recognized the same symptoms and cognition in their child, or their neighbors' child, or in a pupil, they might be moved to intervene, but it's more likely that disturbed young people would be more receptive to the shooter's message than those around them would be.

He bought it, left it in his truck (apparently not locked in a case or the like) for 11 days, at which point his dead brother's widow/his current girlfriend (ok, at least one of his current girlfriends) brought it to a grocery store and threw it in the trash, where it was then recovered by a guy rummaging through the garbage looking for cans to recycle. Further, it was the widow/girlfriend who eventually called the police, not Hunter himself.

So Hunter was far more negligent with the care and storage of his weapon than was the father of the Wisconsin shooter.

His proposed reforms are actually a lot narrower than that. His actual target is the “actual malice” standard in NYT v Sullivan. Currently, if the MSM defames a public figure, he has to prove “actual malicious” which is typically fairly difficult. It essentially excuses negligent defamation of public figures by the press. Trump was able to overcome this with ABC and Stephenopolis, but it’s rare. But this doesn’t really affect someone here calling you, say, a “child mutilation and murdering illegals supporting reflexive libtard”.

Mike MJB Wolf,

Except those are all bad ideas

(1) Please tell me you don't really want to make our schools more like prison camps than they already are,

(2) I know this will be outrageous heresy to many, but is the life of a 14-year-old high school freshman *really" orders of magnitude more precious than that of an 18-year-old high school graduate convenience store worker? Nobody's talking about providing metal detectors and armed guards for the latter person, though they are quite likely just as much at risk as the average school student.

Instead of doubling, tripling, quadrupling down on ever-increasing hyperintrusive government micromanagement, how about if we go back to the way things were in the '50s and '60s, or schools felt like part of the community instead of prison camps? And then add to that, get rid of all the stupid gun-free zone pretense, and make schools governed by the same laws that apply in general everywhere else?

“ Biden years...we are not shocked by the many female and transgender and Black and Asian shooters he inspired...”

See the comments on Chicago. The bulk of shooting deaths in this country are gang and drug related. That means, unfortunately, that Blacks are significantly over represented as shooters - and victims. Essentially black on black shootings.

Newsweek is not the only media outlet who is misgendering this girl. Apparently, they just assumed that she identified as transgender.

It would be disrespectful to do otherwise.

I don’t know much about KMFDM, nor do I want to know, but the vibe strikes me as degenerate and nihilistic. I’m not even religious, but how much Jesus was that girl getting while wearing a punk rock (spare me the exact category of dreck it belongs to, please) tee shirt to church? The other students also seem to be fully secularized, conformed to the world, so what good does the school do at all?

It would be fun to see a bit of discovery on those 20 or so corporations controlled by the Bidens, the primary purpose of which seems to be to receive payments, and to move payments around obfuscating their source.

Puleeze sue Trump for saying this.

If the shooter was trans, I think that makes the third trans mass shooter in recent years.

I suspect that Biden's staff wrote and put out this statement and that Biden may not even be aware that they did it.

People who have never done anything except go to school want to be our teachers. Face it, it's easier to become a certified teacher by shooting someone in the back than by years of work and effort and scrimping. And people who have an agenda are getting hold of these wannabe teachers and assisting them toward their dream.

I think this shooting is another in a series of psy-ops - someone got hold of this girl in her misery and told her she could make a point, just as, in my opinion, happened to the Butler shooter and the Backshooter. The drones are another form of psy-op. We voters are sinners in the hands of an angry media which is assisting whoever was behind who ever was running Biden in attacks on our nerves in retaliation for Trump's victory.

Start wih the drones. The drones are making a point. This is a theory I got from Walter Kirn (he is on Racket with Matt Taibbi.) Kirn thinks the drones are a psy-op which will build toward the idea that it would be dangerous to go to the Trump Inauguration - scaring people merely to make Trump look bad. (And Kirn thinks that Trump addressed the issue of drones in his latest press conference in which Trump implied he had been briefed, said there was no danger, and said the government had no reason not to explain the drones to the people.)
I feel that Kirn's explanation must be at least truth adjacent because the drone story is like other stories in the media these days, When I read or listen, I can feel how, as Kirn says, the main narratives are a little too much like a Young Adult story to be true. The Backshooter - an anticapitalist hero who is making a point. He holds onto the evidence against him till the police finally catch him five days later in order to make certain that he can go on trial and claim the wrongs of society drove him mad. He hopes to get off with the first Foucault insanity plea - insanity due to a wish for social justice which can never be achieved in Amerika, so Amerika is the real killer but will never be put on trial except here through my body. He'll soon be saying. Free Luigi, Free him Now - the chant begins.

Then there's the girl at a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin who commits suicide after shooting classmates to make a point. We supposedly don't know what the point is yet but we'll soon find out that Khristian Amerika is the real killer because that Young Adult narrative is what plays in Peoria, I mean Madison.

@Bruce Hayden: Yes, of course. But gang and drug crimes are not performed insane people, these are local warlord turf wars and crimes among criminals who cannot use the regular court system.

The media tries to hide the black on black crime to reduce stereotyping...but it doesn't work. This is why they've focused on crazies and (statistically rare) mass shooters. These were previously mostly "safe to stereotype" white guy loners.

Knowing something about the curricula at Abundant Life, a partner school to High Point on the West Side, my guess is that 'they' were not indoctrinated with such thoughts at that school.

False, Enigma. First of all, recent DNA testing has shown that black men have long been statistically underrepresented as serial killers, just as they have long been known to be vastly underrepresented as both intra-- and interracial rapists. They dominate in both crimes.

Wrong, Bruce. The distinction between classified gang crime and individual “crazy” crime demonstrates under our current law that gang crime more closely resembles the characteristics of the lynch mobs of 75 years ago, in behavior, organization, power, and intent. So why exclude them? Ask Eric Holder or Abe Foxman. They were after statistics, not justice.

Given the extremely small proportion of crazy school shooters, there is no sample size beyond nearly the entire population that could detect the signal.
