In France, Biden rhapsodized about 'the story of America' told by the rows of graves at the Normandy America Cemetery: 'Nearly 10,000 heroes buried side-by-side...'"

"'... officers and enlisted, immigrants and native-born, different races, different faiths, but all Americans.' In Phoenix, Trump, invoked the racist 'great replacement' conspiracy theory, saying Biden had orchestrated an 'invasion' at the border as part of 'a deliberate demolition of our sovereignty' because “they probably think these people are going to be voting.... Trump... complained about 'endless wars' and 'delinquent' Europeans, and vowed to 'spend our money in our country' — including by 'moving thousands of troops, if necessary, currently stationed overseas to our own borders.'... Will Americans recognize their country in the dark and desperate portrait Trump painted? 'Our country is falling to pieces,' he said, and if he isn’t returned to power, 'the country is finished ... You won’t have a country anymore.' Trump described a nation full of 'crooked people' and serving as 'a dumping ground for the dungeons of the Third World.'"

Milbank's writing is so heavy-handed, but it must please some readers, perhaps readers who want to believe Biden is a good-enough candidate. He rhapsodized about a story told by the rows of graves, while Trump complained of endless wars.

I only clicked on that because I was interested in the photograph, which shows Trump at the Phoenix rally. He's holding up his tie and looking at it. The tie is yellow. I noticed the tie color last night — I actually watched the Phoenix speech. I wondered why Trump had switched out his usual red tie. Why yellow? I think the positive meaning traditionally associated with yellow is hope, but maybe it's got a special meaning for him. Maybe it's gold and it signifies wealth. Maybe it's yellow because that's the primary color that is not red or blue and Trump means to present himself as transcending political parties.

Here. Watch for yourself. I don't think he ever talks about the tie. He takes questions from the audience in the end. He runs his own town hall. I think he shows good rapport with people. Watch for the strong reaction to one guy's wife, whom Trump declares beautiful.

One of the things I greatly appreciated about Trump's 4 years was his aversion to foreign entanglements. We did not get involved in other nations' conflicts. Indeed, with the Abraham Accords, the trajectory in the Middle East seemed to be positive.
Now, here we are hip deep in nonsense with Biden: Billions to Ukraine. A war in the middle East.

The still in the embedded video shows Trump in a red tie, but it's a different event. You can see from the backdrop that it's in New Hampshire. But if you play the video, you'll see the Phoenix event and the yellow tie.

There are thin white stripes on the yellow tie, by the way. Just to be painfully accurate. Thin white stripes on the New Hampshire red tie too.

I’m floored at the Left’s refusal to face the facts and, most importantly, the numbers. I attended an event last night held by a small group of “conservation voters.” They want OPPD to move up its net zero target date. One of the speakers is a Creighton professor. I asked him the cost of net zero. He didn’t know. I know the number and it is $28b in 2020 dollars per OPPD’s own expert. OPPD only has $2b in revenue now. To service $28b in debt, rates will have to be tripled.

"Conspiracy theory"? The replacement theory simply posits that there's an ulterior motive behind the administration's policy of admitting millions of unvetted foreign nationals in defiance of U.S. immigration laws, i.e., a desire to "Turn Texas Blue" or otherwise shape future elections through demographic changes. The claim that such an ulterior motive exists doesn't imply the existence of a "conspiracy," only a lack of honesty as to the actual purpose of the policy.

Slapping the "conspiracy theory" label on any argument you don't want to confront in a substantive way is almost as tiresome as calling stuff "racist" for the same reason. (Of course, here Millbank does both of those things.)

This is right of course. The left loves it until the right brings it up, and then it’s a conspiracy. “The people can’t vote, there’s no proof of illegals voting, you MAGA deplorables”. And that’s a smokescreen anyway. They don’t need to vote, just need to amp up the electoral college numbers for deep blue states. I don't think this has as much play as it used to. I don't think Left-Wing chattering class understands just how much people dislike the widespread illegal immigration that has occurred. Even among traditional Democrat voting blocs, like black voters, illegal immigration is deeply unpopular. A lot of them see non-black, non-American people all over their neighborhoods, and getting resources that previously or could have gone to their community and feel like they are being replaced. The Great Replacement theory has more cachet they expect.

I would have thought that could have been inferred without stating but it appears to be some kinda 'gotcha' to point out when the required incantation is missing.

Biden's words framed by Milbank against Trump's complaints about illegal immigration ignores the reality that we now likely have a greater percentage of foreign born residents in the US than any time since the great waves of migration in last decades of the 1800s. The army that fought and died in Normandy was not composed of "immigrants and native-born, different races, different faiths" in the same way the current US population is. The two statements are not equivalent, and the framing is dishonest.

I wasn't going to comment but then I saw Leftwing SJW Milbank's talk about the D-day heroes being of "different races" and "Immigrants".

Look not only was the USA 90 percent white in 1940, immigration was pretty much stopped in 1914 by WW 1 and then by the immigration restriction acts of the 1920s. Pretty much all the "boys" who splashed ashore on Utah and Omaha Beach were native born.

As for "races" - not only was the 1940 USA 90 percent white, but very few blacks volunteered for the US Army/Navy/Air corps in WWII (and if you want to justify that go ahead). Accordingly the Combat Pilots and Air crews were 99 percent white. And the US ground army was segregated. The only black infantry units that fought the Germans were in the 92nd Infantry division which fought in Italy. Add in a handful of Tank destroyer, Armored, and artillery battalions and 99 perecent of the combat troops who fought Nazi Germany were white. We lost 182 thousand men fighting Hiter and I doubt more than 1 thousand were African American.

1940s White America didn't expect much from blacks. They weren't expected to fight and they weren't given much opportunity to be officers. So their losses were low.
