"During the coronavirus hearing this week, [Marjorie Taylor] Greene attacked [Anthony] Fauci as she held up a photo of two sedated puppies, their heads placed in mesh cages..."

"... as they lie on a table while being swarmed by sand flies.... [I]t’s silly to personally blame Fauci for the design of research studies... endorsed many levels below the director..... Female sand flies carry a parasite that produces zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis (ZVL), an often-neglected tropical disease in humans. [N]early 16,000 dogs in 2019 were subjected to pain in the United States during research experiments — and nearly 400 received no pain medication. The White Coat Waste Project hit a nerve when it publicized the Tunisia sand fly study in 2021, emphasizing the dramatic photo that Greene waved at Fauci. The Post reported that Fauci’s office got 3,600 phone calls in 36 hours.... The emails show that NIH was not fully transparent as it tried to handle a public-relations nightmare...."

Writes Glenn Kessler, the WaPo "fact checker," in "Unpacking the story of Fauci and painful experiments involving dogs/Documents obtained by an animal rights group show that NIH was not fully transparent when the controversy erupted in 2021."

Most people like dogs. Many people LOVE dogs.

1) is it research for just research sake?
2) are they saving human lives?

Strange how we now know Fauci helped create COVID and killed millions of people around the world.

But it's the dog images that piss everyone off and are most uncomfortable.

Glenn Kessler, the WaPo "fact checker," is a great believer in "it's different when we do it."

I wish we could focus on the millions of people he killed.

Many make-up brands distinguish themselves by stating in their marketing materials "no animals were used to test these products" and every movie has a similar disclaimer about no animals being "harmed" in making the motion picture. But Kessler wants to assert that only some people, presumably dummies like MTG and me, are "squeamish" about inflicting pain on prescious little Beagle puppies. On Snoopy!

And let's face it, if they were more "forthcoming" when questioned, or they would stop researching how to make diseases deadlier before OOPSIE letting them out in the wild, or they would stop moving the ILLEGAL research offshore to our sworn enemy China (they swear it, we're oblivious), then maybe we would be less distrustful of the lying sacks of shit who run our Public "Health" bureaucracy.

I can't read Glen. Does he ever get around to just the facts, ma'am?

Yeah, isn't that interesting? The masking, distancing, and lockdowns were effective against the flu but not covid. I don't know any other way to interpret that than they succeeded spectacularly at tailoring covid exactly for infecting and killing humans. Congratulations.

Why aren't these fuckers in jail?

Fauci did this only to the extent that he funded the Gain of Function research that resulted in the creation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It turns out that, for the most part, we only get one respiratory virus a season. Otherwise, we would face constant flu virus as one variant sweeps through, then another. Instead, we face one respiratory virus variant a year - unless that variant is pushed out by another virus, as it was for maybe 3 years with the Fauci funded SARS-2 virus. One of the things that determines which respiratory virus will prevail, and where, is residual immunity or viral imprinting on the immune system. Thus, normally we should have seen a single year of dominance by that SARS-2 virus, or at the most two years. Instead, we saw three, and the likely culprit was the ModRNA COVID-19 vaccines, which interfered with immune systems’ ability to develop normal natural immunity to the virus.

Well, no. It's just that there is no effective way to distinguish between flu and covid, and the economic incentives strongly favored covid.

Why was it a PR nightmare? Either the experiments were necessary to save human lives/relieve human misery or they were not. If they were, then people can be told that human lives trump animal lives and the sooner we get a handle on controlling the parasite, the better it is for people and dogs. Not everyone will understand that, but many will.

If it wasn't necessary, then why was it done? Removing the study from the database makes me question how valuable it was. (Although it would indicate the vaccine worked since none of the 12 dogs developed the parasite.) Obviously Faucci couldn't review all 5500 studies, but shouldn't more care go into reviewing ones that we are funding abroad?

If American citizens are paying for research, being able to justify it to those citizens should be a key part of the approval process.

“What Jupiter said. There was no flu season because there was money to be made with a diagnosis of 'COVID-19', using unreliable test methodology.”

I think that it was more likely that COVID-19 pushed out the various circulating Flu viruses. One of the key determinants at to which respiratory virus triumphs in any given season is what people are immune to. The really bad variants don’t come back until enough people with those immunities die off. The more common variants circulate more in kids, who have yet to develop those immunities, but since their immune systems tend to be more robust, it’s rarely an issue. COVID-19 surprised a lot of people because all of a sudden, a lot of kids turned out to be immune to it, without having been noticeably sick (which is why Vaxing them was criminal - why Vax them if you aren’t going to notice them getting sick from it?)

Mason G म्हणाले...

Rewind to LBJ. Personally reviled for holding a dog up by its ears. Not for sending tens of thousands into a meatgrinder.

FWIW, long ago I was Spokesman for an outfit that used a LOT of animals in research (mice, dogs, pigs, primates, etc.). The first "Astronauts" were not human but did much to prepare humans for spaceflight. Most did not survive.

Once, two adult baboons enroute to our labs were seized at a US Port of Entry. An animal rights group staged a press conference/photo op and vowed that we'd never get our murdering hands on the magnificent beasts they'd "rescued".

I went to our R&D Director and proposed a public response, emphasizing the value of the research and our appropriate treatment of animals. He said, "Thanks, Mike, but that's not what we're going to do. In fact, we're not going to do a damn thing."

Noting my puzzlement, he said, in effect: You're new here... watch and learn.

A day went by with more statements from the "rescuers". Another day and another... more media attention. But, before a week had gone by, the people with the animals, contacted us directly.

Their message: We demand you come and get these things, NOW!!! They don't seem understand that we're trying to help them. They're strong and mean and dangerous and we can't go near them.

It was a good lesson.

He appears to believe that approach is warranted, when volunteers are scarce...

“I believe that’s going to turn this around because I don’t think people are going to want to not go to work or not go to college … They’re going to do it,” Fauci told CNN’s Jen Christensen during an interview at the NLGJA, the Association of LGBTQ Journalists, convention Sunday. “You’d like to have them do it on a totally voluntary basis, but if that doesn’t work, you’ve got to go to the alternatives.”

Jupiter म्हणाले...

There most certainly is and was true in '21. There are home tests for both.

"It is not remotely accurate that the CDC test doesn’t differentiate between flu and SARS-CoV-2. It doesn’t detect influenza. It only detects SARS-CoV-2," said Wroblewski. "If flu and COVID are both circulating, you would be able to detect only SARS-CoV-2 and not flu."

Of course there's also the fact that many non-medical deaths (like the young man murdered in his driver's seat in NYC) were counted as C19 deaths.

They just counted normal flu and pneumonia deaths as C19 for monetary reasons.

If it wasn't necessary, then why was it done?

When I was getting my bipsych degree ethics questions of course arose in class and on tests. One such was asking if the following experiment was ethical:

Baby mice had their forepaws amputated to see if scratching the ears was controlled in any way by the presence of the paws.

The answer was "Yes, it's ethical because at some point that information may become useful."

Not that it was, just that somehow, sometime, it may. (And, of course, baby mice were seen as just lab tabs.

I failed that question.

To answer your question directly - grants.

Also show 10 minutes of him being chewed by parasites to every 6th grade class in the country once a year for the next generation with a warning at the bottom:
