"The mountain exploded. Wow, it was horrible. There were rains of rocks. Twice. The second one was really heavy, even the houses far away were also hit."

Said a 95-year-old woman in Tagulandang.

Yeah, that place. It's always sending up little reminders from one mantle hot spot or another. Indonesia is the world's most populous Islamic nation and a fascinating, culturally-diverse place to live, but man, the seismic activity.....

When Krakatoa went up in 1883, it stopped clocks in London and the blast ruptured the eardrums of sailors hundreds of miles away. Things are a little different now, regionally. The 2004 tsunami in that same area killed over 200,000 people, and that was without any kind of eruption, just a couple of plates cracking their knuckles, offshore. Wait'll another Krakatoa hits.

How much carbon dioxide was "emitted" into the atmosphere?

Why wasn't this "pollution" captured?

Mother Nature needs to buy some serious offsets.

Ahhhhhh... CLIMATE CHANGE!!!! Ahhhhhhh... (as Capt. Jack would say.)

I wonder how many SUVs it would take to equal that one volcano...

Sounds like a Bill Murray 'Caddyshack' monologue.

and WHAT will be the affect on Global Temperatures? </sarc

Looked great from space.

Mother Nature sequesters half the carbon dioxide emitted. Gaia is already overloaded with offsets. In addition she is providing geoengineering by ejecting sulfur particulates into the stratosphere that helps block sunlight and reduce global temperatures.

So yeah guys just continue to sit on your fat asses and do nothing because Mom will clean up your diaper for you.

How many kilotons of Teslas have been released into the atmosphere?

The Real Andrew म्हणाले...

As the climate warms, volcanoes will happen more frequently, just like hurricanes. Because the entire earth is melting.

The mountain exploded. Wow, it was horrible. There were rains of rocks. Twice.

"Get my rocks off the mountain, and roll 'em on down the hill."

RCOCEAN II म्हणाले...

I wish I will live to 95 and live in tropical paradise. Even if a volcano explodes every once and a while.

But its sad. i dunno how you can prepare for rocks raining down on you from a volcano, except move farther away.

RCOCEAN II म्हणाले...

Thank God they're not Jewish. Otherwise, we'd be hearing how the volcano was anti-semitic.

FullMoon म्हणाले...

Any attempt to harness that energy? Probably equal to a trillion solar panels and wind turbines.

(Quick glance towards Yellowstone caldera...) Wow, that Indonesian eruption is devastating!

Mother Nature can be one awesome bitch.

Rusty म्हणाले...

A small volcano the size of a large volcano.

That's why it's the height of arrogance to believe anything we can will change it.

Volcanoes cool the climate by release of sulfur compounds, so this volcano probably delayed the total destruction of the earth for 5 years or so!
