This exchange took place at the same House Oversight Committee meeting where Marjorie Taylor Greene sneered at Jasmine Crockett's false eyelashes and Crockett shot back with a butch-phobic remark about MTG's body.
The most outré quotes come from the Oversight Committee.
No, I'm not going to blog about the word "outré." I've already done that, here, after encountering the word "outrebounding." But I did just look "outré" up in the OED. It means, "Beyond the bounds of what is usual or considered correct and proper; unusual, peculiar; eccentric, unorthodox; extreme." And example is given from Nicholson Baker's book "The Fermata" — isn't that the book Bill Clinton gave to Monica Lewinsky (or Monica Lewinsky gave to Bill Clinton)? — "Rhody and I had sex that evening—not outré toothbrush-driven avocado sex, but not all that bad sex either."
Oh, no, the Nicholson Baker book that figured in the Lewinsky/Clinton story was "Vox," not "Fermata." It's right here in the Starr Report:
Ms. Lewinsky gave the President at least seven books:
“The Presidents of the United States,” on January 4, 1998;(177)
“Our Patriotic President: His Life in Pictures, Anecdotes, Sayings, Principles and Biography,” on December 6, 1997;
an antique book on Peter the Great, on August 16, 1997;
The Notebook, on August 16, 1997;
Oy Vey, in early 1997;
a small golf book, in early 1997; and
her personal copy of “Vox,” a novel about phone sex, on March 29, 1997.
Yes, "Vox" was more apt. Phone sex. But "The Fermata" is also about sex. Arno Strine is a man who can stop time, and he uses this superpower "so that he can see women naked, and eventually creates scenarios that he can watch after he allows time to start again."
Who knows what Trump is really doing when we see him with his eyes closed? He certainly looks pretty!

I've sat through a lot of trials, some of which I was prosecuting or defending, and I can assure everyone that there are lots of boring, boring, boring parts. Also, tense and exciting parts, but more boring than exciting.
"You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of you..."
For the women of the Oversight Committee, seeing is believing. Hearings are overrated.
Trump is meditating.
I thought mud wrestling would be hotter.
"Crockett shot back with a butch-phobic remark about MTG's body."
Howard earlier: "God hates fags."
Crockett: "Blacks hate fags."
As has repeated more than a few times Howard, God does hate anyone. He hates the sin, not the sinner. And we all sin and fall short of the glory of God including me.
Trump is an empty vessel for every one to fill it with their hopes, dreams, fears and nightmares. Con-Man skills 101.
...come from the Oversight Committee.
I read that as Overweight Committee.
(Further, spellcheck wanted to correct the misspelling Overwight to Oversight!)
Ms. Crockett has very short fuse. We all know the type -- temper tantrums, threats, tirades or physical attacks on other people and their possessions. It's only a matter of time before her colleagues, especially her staff, start to talk.
I read it as an appeal to whatever fairness may be left in the jurors' minds, predisposed to find him guilty because he slept.
Trump is testifying with his body. Would a guilty Trump sleep while his future might be in the balance?
Only a confident man would sleep at his trial.
What does Trump's confidence mean? Confident that we will find him not guilty?
I'm going to go with the evidence.
Oh yeah? What does the evidence say?
That the prosecution star witness got cough lying on the stand.
Would it be fair to find him guilty despite the lying?
Imagine Trump's reaction the first time he sees that video of Boebert saying that Trump "looks pretty while he sleeps." He will find that comment so adorable, and will smile every time he thinks of it.
This trial is simply a humiliation ritual meant to break Trump. The Bons penseurs know full well wtf is going on here.
ITS THE TRIAL OF THE CENTURY!
"Wasn’t the Clinton-Lewinsky book was Leaves of Grass?"
Yes, that was what he gave her. From the Starr Report: "Ms. Lewinsky testified that the President gave her additional gifts over the course of their relationship, such as a brooch, the book Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman, an Annie Lennox compact disk, and a cigar."
"Only a confident man would sleep at his trial."
I think Trump by seeming to sleep is sending the message: This is boring/Don't you want what I want to escape from all this/Don't you wish you could do what I'm doing and sleep through it?
The jurors are compelled to pay attention, and Trump is essentially saying: It's not worth paying attention to. That is, as he sometimes says out loud: The whole thing is bullshit and we all know it.
When Bill boinks an intern in the oval office- it's all cool. Men need sex.
When a private citizen bonks a porn star (perhaps? - do we really know it's true? - NO.)
IN 2006. FELONY!
A thinking person might follow these activities and ask: "Who does this reflect most poorly upon? The accused, or the accuser?" Amazingly enough, the answer is still unfolding - for some.
Howard is a wet fart delivered with extreme prejudice.
Outre is made into a noun with -age, and then English sees "outrage." What is beyond what is proper deserves rage, the word itself says so.
This was so useful that outrage was imported back into French.
Not a person in a hundred realizes that the offense and the rage are two different things today.
'Only a confident man would sleep at his trial.'
When elderly men sleep during the day, no one has ever said 'look how confident!'
Old guy is just being old. Sorry if that hits too close to home.
"Outre" started showing up in the NYTimes Sunday puzzles 2-3 years ago and has become a staple clue/answer.
Only a confident man would sleep at his trial
Actually, police tend to follow the rule that if, after an arrest, a guy is sleeping in his cell or while awaiting questioning, that is an indication of guilt since an innocent person would be hyper-vigilant.
Maybe he's tired because he has more important things to do after the trial that keep him up late (like running for president) so he cat naps during the time he can't do any real work.
Imagine what Biden at a trail for look like. If he's a "as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory" at the trial then maybe he would also need a nap or two. What does he do when they "put a lid on it" as president?
I've sat through a lot of trials, some of which I was prosecuting or defending, and I can assure everyone that there are lots of boring, boring, boring parts. Also, tense and exciting parts, but more boring than exciting.
I was pretty sure a judge in a trial I was working was asleep, but every time there was an objectionable question asked, his eyes opened and he sat bolt upright, ready to sustain any objection.
In deposition, I was once asked whether I "agree with the following statement..."
The opposing attorney quickly spewed a statement at me longer than expected.
Since I was being asked to adopt her words as my own, I said, "could you repeat that."
I closed my eyes in order to listen carefully and concentrate on every word in the extended statement.
After she finished and a brief pause, I opened my eyes and said, "take out the word 'ensure'".
She was pissed. I'm am certain "ensure" was the word she wanted to sneak in and have at the ready if the case went to trial.
I've found shutting-down extraneous senses (like sight) can sharpen other senses (hearing) and improve focus, especially in situations where you are being dragged through a protracted process you are being compelled to endure against your will.
Particularly when you are the target of a proceeding. Naturally, your mind wants to escape the confines of the situation you are forced into. It's a fight or flight response, and you can do neither. Fatigue (not necessarily sleepiness) and loss of focus can creep in as a result.
That's one important reason why even a lawyer needs a lawyer.
I almost fell asleep once while defending a deposition. The realization of what I had almost done was enough to completely wake myself up.
Tank was absolutely correct about how boring legal proceedings can be. Hours of crushing boredom interrupted by flashes of sheer and absolute panic. It's sweet when you are able to relax a minute and gloat.

This is how stupid you have to be to be a Democrat.
You've seen one witch hunt, you've seen them all. He's bored.
Is New York a Democratic jurisdiction with Capitol punishment manifested in emanations from the penumbra of black letter (no diversity intended) law?

Howard believes Trump hasn't been investigated at all since 2015.
Howard also doesn't realize that Trump was actually President and has an actual record to look at.
Nope, total blank slate there. Trump supporters have nothing to judge Trump by. According to someone being purposely stupid.
The problem for Howard is he knows there is a record and Trump supporters have very solid reasons for supporting Trump. But cognitive dissonance is too strong for Howard to deal with and his perception of himself is inflated.
Praying? For forgiveness for fucking a porn star behind his wife's back? Remember the Lord killed King David's kid to teach him a lesson about his sinfulness. Seems to be like Trump is getting off easy in the Biblical sense so maybe we should bring Jesus into the courtroom.
Right.

I guess you would have something if Trump were sleeping in a cell awaiting questioning, but that is not the scenario here. Of course, you know that.
It is very sad that supposed liberals are cheering for a Soviet-style conviction of a non-crime with obviously compromised witnesses, judge and prosecutor.
When did you lose your way, Comrade?
Only a Commie-Pinko would put an F-Bomb and Jesus in the same paragraph.
Boebert's just auditioning for a position as a concubine.
But I doubt she's Trump's type.

Being arrested when you do nothing wrong, is not even on the same planet as sitting through your 3rd trial that all the legal experts say are legal bogus and honest judges would have refused to hear
The State NY case, prosecuted by the DoJ prosecutor is no exception. I rests on a bookkeeping error. Except the law only applies to accounting records that are required be the state. A persons check book register is not a State requirement.

However, I think you'll agree that at trial the police officer would not be allowed to testify that the defendant was guilty because he "slept like a baby in his cell, and we all know what THAT means".
Unless, of course, the Judge presiding was Merchan, and the defendant was Trump.

Dopey Driver knows the secret of Stormy. Why not offer to testify ? Nobody else has any evidence of germophobic Trump willing to dip his wick where hundreds of wicks have been.
You brain dead lefties are amusing.

Howard has a lot of experience with con men. He votes for them every chance he gets. Look at John Kerry. Wrote his own medal award letters. Kind of like "Danang Dick Blumenthal" and "fighter pilot Harkins."
they should extract the worms like they did out of RFK jr,
Cohen's retractions suggest none of this was ever true, as does Robert Costello's clarifications,
Iowan2 makes a great point that hard corps Trumpers are just as pathetic and dullusional as the dyed in the wool Obamaites

Thaaaaaaat's riiiiiight.
Speaking of outré, Rudi Guiliani celebrated his 80th birthday in Palm Beach and was served with a new indictment from Arizona. It's the lawfare that Howard likes.
DD Driver,
None of us Trump supporters give a flying fuck who Trump slept with- that is the thing you seemingly don't grok. We find fake prudes like you tiresome, especially after the last quarter century. If Mitt Romney were screwing every woman he could find, you wouldn't raise the issue a single time, and you know it.

“Ms. Crockett has very short fuse. We all know the type -- temper tantrums, threats, tirades or physical attacks on other people and their possessions. It's only a matter of time before her colleagues, especially her staff, start to talk.”
She is a Texas Crockett, so she must get it from her old ancestor Davy.
Driver is no bible scholar, that's certain. In addition to adultery, here is what David did to his mistress's husband.
'14 And it happened in the morning, David wrote a letter to Joab, and he sent it by the hand of Uriah. 15 He had written in the letter, “Put Uriah in the front, in the face of the fiercest fighting, then draw back from behind him so that he may be struck down and die.”'
2nd Samuel, Chapter 11
Please note that Trump started no new wars during his tenure which is one reason the military-industrial complex loathes him so much.
The leftists here would gladly grind the patriots into dust on foreign battlefields with no goal of victory. All they care for is power. Never forget that.
Late to the topic, just wanted to add there is no way Trump is praying or has ever prayed. His performative "belief" is transparently counterfeit, simply another aspect of his 24/7 grifting.
I don't think it a negative for Trump to lack belief in God, as I share that disbelief. It is his lying about it for self-seeking motives that warrants criticism.
"Please note that Trump started no new wars during his tenure which is one reason the military-industrial complex loathes him so much."
Despite the tepid "praise" that Trump started no new wars in his tenure, one can counter that he didn't end any ongoing conflicts he inherited,* and he certainly was not shy about threatening use of force when it served his purposes.
The truth is, Trump's supporters and the right at large really don't care if we invade other countries--their support for our invasions and years-long occupying of Iraq and Afghanistan being proof of that. It took Biden to withdraw our forces from Afghanistan, for which he received torrential criticism from the right/Trump supporters, for "not withdrawing in the right way."
Ha! We were there for 20 years, with no more progress in leaving Afghanistan capable of standing on their own and forestalling collapse of their government than in our first year there. The collapse that occurred when we withdrew was going to happen when we withdrew, no matter when or whether the POTUS ordering the withdrawal as Republican or Democrat. This is, no doubt, one reason we wasted lives and money for 20 years in Afghanistan: no one wanted to be the one who would be blamed for the inevitable collapse. The same thing happened when we withdrew from Vietnam, a withdrawal overseen by a Republican government. An occupying military force is not a foundation or guarantee in and of itself for the success and survival of a desirable government upon the withdrawal of the occupying forces.
The truth is, both parties are complicit in our criminal invasion and devastation of Afghanistan, and for our profligate over- and misuse of our military in other lands for the past century to achieve our own goals of political and industrial dominance and gain.
Robert Howard Zinn Cook heard from once again.
Cook is right about "nation building". It is a fool's errand. Israel should finish demolishing the Gaza Strip, push the Palestinians into neighboring Egypt, and call it a day. Job done.

If it's one thing we've learned about you over the years, Robert. It's about how full of shit you are. You're life is one big projection of flaws of people you don't like. You couldn't be objective if your life depended on it.
