RFK Jr. said what needs to be said: Biden's use of government power to suppress the speech of his political antagonists is a worse threat to democracy than whatever Trump has done.

"I can make the argument that President Biden is the much worse threat to democracy, and the reason for that is President Biden is... the first president in history that has used the federal agencies to censor political speech, so to censor his opponent. I can say that because I just won a case in the federal court of appeals — and now before the Supreme Court — that shows that he started censoring not just me but, 37 hours after he took the oath of office, he was censoring me (sic). No President in the country has ever done that. The greatest threat in democracy is not somebody who questions election returns but a President of the United States who used the power of his office to force the social media companies — Facebook, Instagram, Twitter — to open a portal and give access to that portal to the FBI, to the CIA, to the IRS, to [???], to NIH, to censor his political critics. President Biden, the first President in history, used his power over the Secret Service to deny Secret Service protection to one of his political opponents, for political reasons. He's weaponizing the federal agencies. Those are really critical threats to democracy."

The interviewer — perhaps only pretending to misunderstand — asks how what Trump did is not a threat to democracy. RFK Jr. answers: "I think that is a threat to democracy. Him... trying to overthrow the election clearly is a threat to democracy. But the question was: Who is a worse threat to democracy? And what I would say is— I’m not going to answer that question, but I can argue that President Biden is because the First Amendment, Erin, is the most important— Adams and Hamilton and Madison said, We put the guarantee of freedom of expression in the First Amendment because all of the other constitutional rights depend on it. If you have a government that can silence its opponents, it has license for any atrocity.... What President in history has ever tried to censor political opponents? What President has weaponized the federal agencies? You know, when my father came into the Justice Department, the first week he was there, he got all of the branch and division attorneys together, and he said, Whatever we do, we are not going to use the power of the Justice Department for political reasons...."

Pushed again about Trump's resistance to accepting the announced result of the 2020 election, he reminds us that elections can be stolen, and he personally thinks that has happened — twice! — in the last 20 years: "In 2001 [sic], we had an election stolen in this country, during the Bush/Gore election. In 2004, I wrote an award-winning article for Rolling Stone that showed how that election how that election was stolen from John Kerry... and most Americans agree with me about 2001, that it was a stolen election, from the Democratic candidate, so I don't think people who say an election is stolen— we shouldn't make pariahs of those people. We shouldn't demonize them. We shouldn't vilify them. What we should be doing is saying let's all get together — Republicans and Democrats — and fix the election system, so that... we're the exemplary democracy of the world."

ADDED: RFK Jr. doesn't mention the 1960 election. Was that one stolen — the one with RFK Jr.'s uncle? In 2000, just before the Bush v. Gore election, Slate ran "Was Nixon Robbed? The legend of the stolen 1960 presidential election":
“You gotta swallow this one,” says a Republican hack in Oliver Stone’s Nixon, referring to the 1960 election, in which John F. Kennedy prevailed. “They stole it fair and square.”

That Richard Nixon was cheated out of the presidency in 1960 has become almost an accepted fact. You’ve probably heard the allegations: Kennedy’s operatives fixed the tallies in Texas and Illinois, giving him those states’ 51 electoral votes and a majority in the Electoral College. Fearing that to question the results would harm the country, Nixon checked his pride and declined to mount a challenge....

Just because it's in an Oliver Stone movie doesn't make it true, but...

[A]ccording to journalist Seymour Hersh, a former Justice Department prosecutor who heard tapes of FBI wiretaps from the period believed that Illinois was rightfully Nixon’s. Hersh also has written that J. Edgar Hoover believed Nixon actually won the presidency but in deciding to follow normal procedures and refer the FBI’s findings to the attorney general—as of Jan. 20, 1961, Robert F. Kennedy—he effectively buried the case.

RFK?! That spices up RFK Jr.'s invocation of Whatever we do, we are not going to use the power of the Justice Department for political reasons....

“I’m not going to answer that question. But I can argue …” Except RFK jr. didn’t argue that in court. RFK Jr.’s complaint in his case states that the censorship began in 2020, when Donald Trump was President:

“Beginning in early 2020 and continuing to the present day, the federal government has waged a systematic, concerted campaign, astonishing in its breadth and effectiveness, to “induce, encourage, [and] promote” the nation’s three largest social-media platforms “to accomplish what [the government] is constitutionally forbidden to accomplish”—namely, the censorship of constitutionally protected speech.”

So how does Biden become the “first” when his complaint makes plain it started under Trump?

RFK Jr. is spot on here. Trump was a dangerously naïve outsider in 2016, and the Deep State toyed with him like a cat toys with a mouse. The media laughed out loud, and then Trump was suckered by the seditious Mueller investigation and bureaucratic "resistance," as used to cover up the seditious Crossfire Hurricane effort.

Trump's main offenses were to be rude and to say the politically incorrect things on a lot of people's minds. Obama-Clinton-Biden were all insiders using every State tool possible for political gain. IMO, Obama himself was extremely naïve from 2008-2010. This led to Party and Deep State personnel taking over government no later than the 2010 election cycle with Democratic loss of congress. Obama was a dreamy academic figurehead with the desired skin color, but upon discovering the bare knuckles and dirty sausage making of D.C. he literally bowed down in deference to everyone.

Given Biden's level of cognitive functioning, the Deep State likely hasn't informed him of all they are doing. Just like with Obama and Trump, they truly run the show.

Trump illegally conspired to overturn the election in any and almost every way that he could.

Trump has claimed, falsely, that the election had been "stolen" from him. He's made the claim hundreds of times, in a myriad of ways. All false. And all more or less destructive to what should be America's rightful trust in its electoral representative democracy.

There are some rather obvious ways to "question" an election. File lawsuits; use your First Amendment speech rights. But pressuring officials to defy their Constitutional duties is not part of it. Inciting violence is not part of it.

The more I see interviews with RFKJr, and the more I see of cameras looking at his face and into his eyes, the more I see him as a profoundly damaged, dangerous, reckless, recovering heroin addict.

I'm sure she had her producer talking in her ear, but they glossed right over what he said- all very important points. Not even that. She acted as if he had said nothing, as if there were 45 seconds of silence, and just moved on. Notably, CNN and their cohorts in the large media business, took part in this censoring, and continue to do so. They don't see it that way. They see themselves as noble people in the fight for a great cause. Which would be hilarious if it weren't so dangerous for our country.

Biden is unquestionably a great threat to our freedom. He/they show it daily (by 'they' I mean those actually making policy direction and decisions before having Joe sign off on something.) But that said, I think putting Trump back up there for another run is nuts. He's nuts. Trump is both brilliant and nuts. The censorship may have started in 2020 under Trump, but it certainly was not at Trump's direction, nor was it targeting his political opponents. On the contrary, it was targeting the speech of conservatives, and upon entering office the Biden administration put it into overdrive.

I googled: has any Pres other than Obama and Biden threatened the Supreme Court with "remedial" political action, using the platform of the SOTU for such threats? Of course the SOTU was not originally delivered as an oration in front of both Houses, the Court, etc. Lincoln campaigned against Dred Scott v. Obama and Biden may have reached a new low.

The use of government to make corporations to implement their policy has a name. Leftists like to throw the word around when talking about conservatives, but that's just another form of projection. The word is fascism.

fascism /făsh′ĭz″əm/
noun

1. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, a capitalist economy subject to stringent governmental controls, violent suppression of the opposition, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.

2. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.

3. Oppressive, dictatorial control.

4. A political theory advocating an authoritarian hierarchical government; -- opposed to democracy and liberalism.

5. An authoritarian system of government under absolute control of a single dictator, allowing no political opposition, forcibly suppressing dissent, and rigidly controlling most industrial and economic activities. Such regimes usually try to achieve popularity by a strongly nationalistic appeal, often mixed with racism.

6. Specifically, the Fascist movement led by Benito Mussolini in Italy from 1922 to 1943.

7. Broadly, a tendency toward or support of a strongly authoritarian or dictatorial control of government or other organizations; -- often used pejoratively in this sense.

8. A political regime, having totalitarian aspirations, ideologically based on a relationship between business and the centralized government, business-and-government control of the market place, repression of criticism or opposition, a leader cult and exalting the state and/or religion above individual rights. Originally only applied (usually capitalized) to Benito Mussolini's Italy.

They were NOT against the freedoms and restrictions on government the Bill lays out.

In the end their minds were changed, largely by the states demanding the BOR be added to the Constitution as a condition for its ratification. Distrusting government as they did, they wanted specific restrictions on it.

As for the rhetorical question about trusting a POTUS who doesn't "know" and share your opinion, you obviously have an engorged sense of yourself.

Left Bank, in typical Troll(D) fashion, says that RFK Jr.’s complaint in his case states that the censorship began in 2020, when Donald Trump was President.

If you actually read the Complaint, however, you would discover that it alleges that "sustained, successful efforts by federal officers to induce social-media platforms to censor speech appear to have begun in 2020. Throughout that year, officers from a variety of federal agencies worked closely, although often clandestinely, with Facebook, Google, and Twitter in an effort to induce, encourage and promote censorship of constitutionally protected speech on those platforms. Because the two most prominent censorship “achievements” of that year—the suppression of the lab-leak theory of COVID’s origins and of reporting about Hunter Biden’s laptop—appear to conflict with the interests of and positions taken by then-President Donald Trump, it is doubtful that the White House was organizing or spearheading these federal censorship efforts. That changed with the election of President Joe Biden."

tommyesq म्हणाले...

the twitter files showed that the government was doing this sort of thing 2020, before sleepy dark joe brandon became president, but please keep raving on TV about how censored you are...

So according to you, the government has been pushing private entities like Facebook and Twitter to censor material for even longer than Biden has been president, and that somehow makes complaints that we are being censored illegitimate?

I’m not voting for either Biden or Trump, for good and obvious reasons. If Bobby wasn’t a nutcase about vaccines, I’d vote for him, but he is, so I won’t. It looks like I won’t cast a ballot for president this year, or maybe I’ll write in DeSantis.

Another reminder that the Bush wing republicans are the smallest, dumbest most worthless political group in the country.

This Politico essay by David Freedlander is such a beautifully written, patient, exacting takedown of Bobby. It's some of the best proof that the best way to defeat Bobby Kennedy is to just let him think and do and say whatever is on his mind. It'll be a train wreck.

Rabel म्हणाले...

This is the case he's referencing:

"Robert F. Kennedy Jr. won a preliminary injunction against the White House and other federal defendants in his suit alleging government censorship of his statements against vaccines on social media.

The injunction, however, will be stayed until the US Supreme Court rules in a related case brought by Missouri and Louisiana.

An injunction is warranted because Kennedy showed he is likely to succeed on the merits of his claims, Judge Terry A. Doughty of the US District Court for the Western District of Louisiana said Wednesday.

The White House defendants, the Surgeon General defendants, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defendants, the Federal Bureau of Investigation defendants, and the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency defendants likely violated the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment, Doughty said."

However, the SC declined his attempt to participate in the broader case, Murthy v. Missouri, that it is considering so the second part of this - "I can say that because I just won a case in the federal court of appeals — and now before the Supreme Court..." - is misleading.

Alito dissented.

The obvious fact now is that the DS doesn't need presidential approval or authority to do as it pleases, when it pleases.

Not even a Trump blowout win in November (I still think he will be neutralized before then) will be more than a speedbump on the expressway to interesting times.

The definition of "democracy" is majority rule. Period. Full stop.

Millions of words have been added, officially, by custom/tradition and just people spouting off about protecting the minority from the majority and so on but it is really just fluff and feathers. I support most of this but don't see it as anything really strong.

For example, if we wanted to repeal the 13th Amendment and reimpose slavery, we could do it in a fully democratic process. All it would take would be a majority vote, in which everyone gets to fully participate with their votes fully counted.

But if the majority, filtered through the various roadblocks, chicanes, supermajorities and so on, decide democratically to repeal 13A and reimpose slavery there is nothing to stop them.

The only protection anyone has under democracy is their fellow man's & woman's better nature. Never rely on this because they may not have one. Apologies to Robert Heinlein.

Democracy scares the crap out of me and for the same reason it scared the crap out of our founding fathers. It is why our constitution works so hard (and well, generally) to limit democracy.

This mantra of all these people bowing down to the golden calf of democracy scares me even more.

Churchill, I think, said that democracy is the worst possible form of government except all others.

The solution is the minimal possible amount of government and that government that is necessary exercised at the lowest possible level. Democratically elected but with as little power as is really required. The Feds should do nothing a state can do, the state nothing that a city or county can do and the city or county nothing that an individual can do.

We've gone way too far in the opposite direction. One of the reasons I like President Emeritus Trump is that he has come closest, though far from close, to putting this philosopy into action.

We need democratic minarchy. MAGA.

The economy was better for the average person under Pinochet in my experience. If you are inclined to believe your government is corrupt regardless, but you can afford groceries and housing, you will take what you can get.

RFK is right. Biden administration is singlehandedly destroying "democracy" in USA, and trying to strip 1st Amendment rights from us citizens too.

To echo another earlier poster's comment, Trump isn't threatening "democracy", he's threatening to Democrats, particularly those who've violated federal laws and constitution in effort to bolster deep-state Democrats pulling levers of Biden Administration.

Normies recognize both the enactment of overt lawfare against Trump, and see blatant unfairness of that applied lawfare. And those normies identify with Trump because they also feel burden of implicit unfairness encountered in daily life, day-after-day. Turn on the TV, so those border-jumping arriving migrants with their $2,000 EBC cards, costing big cities (taxpayers) upwards $350/day/migrant. Grates on normies' nerves, big time, and they'll vote Trump.

“ Trump illegally conspired to overturn the election in any and almost every way that he could.

“Trump has claimed, falsely, that the election had been "stolen" from him. He's made the claim hundreds of times, in a myriad of ways. All false. And all more or less destructive to what should be America's rightful trust in its electoral representative democracy.”

And the evidence continues to emerge that the election was indeed stolen. Out this week, that the Fulton County, GA (Atlanta, county population 1,066,710) ballots were not signature verified in the 2020 election. That made them illegally counted, and the county’s certification illegal. Without their votes, Trump would probably won the state in a landslide. Moreover, the a post certification recount showed a 700-800 vote discrepancy with the certified count. Fulton County was where Republican election judges were evicted rom counting, carts of ballots were then seen carted in through the back, counted, and recounted, swinging the count by hundreds of thousands of votes while Dems were the only ones counting ballots. So keep lying that there is no evidence of Biden having stolen the election.

Testimony: No signature verification on 2020 Fulton County ballots

These kind of people get the ear of D.C. politicians, but are then run through the meat grinder after the honeymoon is over. The painful challenge of passing Obamacare was that meat grinder.

I see what you are saying but disagree about the timing. I think Obama went through the metamorphosis you are suggesting after he landed in Chicago, discovering that a private school-Columbia-Harvard educated choomer from Hawaii via Indonesia may have been a faculty lounge darling but had no street cred on the South Side. That's when he dumped his multi-ethnic lady friends and found an angry black woman to marry, and learned how to work politics Chicago style by eliminating more powerful politicians from ballots before the election and getting advantageous leaks from divorce settlements.

I don't think Obama had much to do with actually passing Obamacare except in his mind, and I think he was primarily responsible for ticking off the GOP so bad that none of them, not even Murkowski or Collins, would vote for it. Pelosi and Reid twisted all the arms and worked all the deals. Remember that 2010 wasn't supposed to be the Democrat bloodbath 1994 was because, as he said, "you've got me".
