Writes Katherine Miller, in "Trump Cacophony Hits Differently This Time" (NYT).
"Eight years later, Mr. Trump is often on TV less... and fewer people are watching; he’s not on social media in the same way, and social media is kind of falling apart, except for TikTok, which is less centralized.... It just feels as though it requires much more work to find and understand the main news events of any given day now.... Perhaps this fractured landscape is why Trump’s seeking re-election can feel more muted than last time. People are perhaps holding a static image of Mr. Trump in their brains or forestalling the reality of what another Trump nomination would mean...."
Perhaps. Perhaps.

Sounds like a business opportunity to me! A centralized, unbiased new source. I'll call it "The New York Times."
Mickey Kaus thinks it helps Trump to be out of the news. Voters can remember the time he was present as a better one, the border seemed calmer, inflation was less, things were relatively peaceful overeseas. If Trump is out of the news, he can campaign as Biden did (but then failed to govern) as a return to normalcy.
But if people see him every day saying something stupid ...
Now, the New York Times will do that, because that's what their readers want. But most people won't seek that out, and may affirmatively shun it.
Trump is often on TV less
what the Hell, is this "TV"? Do they mean You Tube? or Netflix?
"Don't piss on my boots and tell me it's raining."
Perhaps. Perhaps. Perhaps it was the media, the deep state, the universities, the uni-party all telling us that Hitler was right around the corner, while things were pretty good under the old blowhard, and while they now double down on the things they assure that HE will do if given another term. Perhaps.
"Hits Differently"
Is this an NYT attempt at zdoomer slang?
cuz I think it's kinda bussin'
and I find it kinda cap
the NYT pieces that "Hit Different"
are the ones that fr kinda slap
We don't have a media anymore. Lots of voices, but no trusteed institutions. I trust Democracy Now! and Al Jazeera more than any more popular outlet. I rely on Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibbi more than all the mainstream and cable offerings combined. It's about a track record, and journalism's sucks.
When 1,000 reporters and high-powered celebrities and politicians can walk through the scam that was Theranos and only one reporter gets the story - thanks to determined whistleblowers - we do NOT have a media. We have a bunch of stenographers trying to exploit us and get laid doing it.
Considering the source...and an underlying theme of the posts today, they seem to be lamenting that the propaganda isn't landing the way it used to...
It just feels as though it requires much more work to find and understand the main news events of any given day now....
As it always was but under the old form, you could delude yourself into thinking you were getting "the truth" because all three major networks and the NTY all parroted the same talking points with slightly different delivery. Now you have to do a little more digging and can more readily run across the actual truth.
Oops. Excess space.
Quizás, Quizás, Quizás.
Nope. The true media breaking point happened in 1998: Matt Drudge released the censored NBC scoop about Monica Lewinsky and her stained blue dress. The establishment media was eventually revealed for being in bed with the establishment at any cost: Bill Clinton, Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew, "the names in Epstein's black book," and their many sex workers, bankers, prostitutes, tech oligarchs, reporters, exploited children, and lovers...all together...
In 2016 the establishment (left and right) and media didn't take Trump seriously and put him out as a dunce, a clown, and a laughing stock. They eagerly made $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ by pumping up every Trump action, even as they knew with every fiber of their beings that Hillary would soon be the first female to win the presidency and stand on top of the entire USA (see the 'symbolic' election night stage set). Trump was a sure loser that evening too, until Rachel Maddow had a live-on-MSNBC meltdown.

Everything that followed was part of an establishment effort to cover its tracks, cover its crimes, undo 2016, and correct for their arrogant miscalculations and errors. Note that NBC was central to the collapse of media credibility. We've met the enemy and 'they' is us.
Perhaps Trump's seeking re-election feels more muted this time because at this point he has no primary competition?
No "Low-Energy JEB!" to defeat this time.
If I want advice on Trump, the NY Times is certainly the first place I'd go.
In 2016 the SNL cold opening was still a factor, as was Stephen Colbert. Now they might as well be from 1916. Trump is now the rock that divides the cultural river, which just keeps on flowing by.
Here are Todd R. and Donald F. acting like what they think matters:

Other than some crazy situation or accident caught on someone's cell phone, the "main news" of the day is coordinated and manufactured. It's not hard to understand. Bringing back masks was non last night's national network news. It's all blah..blah...blah.
Trump doesn't have to go on TV as much. Liberal media will talk about him on, and on, and on, and on. The bogus court cases keep his name in the news.
He is now bigger than all of them. He doesn't need to go on Morning Joe...just like he didn't need to participate in the GOPe debates.
NYT is resigned.
I appreciate the Trump coverage here on the Althouse blog. But most of the Trump articles are just repetition with a slightly different stupid angle. Liberal journalists can't think of anything to write about, so the pontificate bullshit about Trump. It's all from the same dogma. That's not Althouse's fault.
I guess most of the country is ready to "get to it already" and start the primaries and the upcoming political battle.
I can't stand the media's voices anymore. I read the snippets on X, but I'm afraid if I actually hear Joe and Mika's voices I might throw up. I don't care what they say or do. I'm voting for Trump, or writing his name it for President. Whichever option these totalitarian liars allow me.
Don doesn't have to be on television or posting to social media. Every other MSM article is about him. He's like Tom Sawyer conning the Democrats into whitewashing his fence.
WISHFUL THINKING SQUARED.
The fear of honest truth telling has reached a new record level. And the triad of Trump , Musk , and Carlson ride on into the Apocalypse.
"It just feels as though it requires much more work to find and understand the main news events of any given day now."
Heh. You mean, it's not enough to read the front pages of WaPo and NYT?
With a lot of time to kill the past couple of days, I have been looking at YouTube shorts, and it’s amazing how many random videos bashing Trump appear in the feed apropos of nothing. I am sure that YouTube is reporting these contributions.
The funny thing here is that the mainstream central news outlets simply squandered their credibility and position just to try to help Democrats win. Now that nobody believes their lies except gadfly, they are becoming distraught.
Heh thats why they fortified with ctil gdi hamilton 68 et al
Bringing back masks was non last night's national network news.
They need the emergency measures to cook the vote. They’ll be back…
forestalling the reality of what another Trump nomination would mean.
"Forestalling" is not how I would describe Trump's support, especially when compared to Biden.
Half (1/2) hour news was the best, whether CNN's Headline News or local news. News, Sports & Weather, succinctly reported in thirty(30) minutes.

Once in a while, Howard gets it 100% right. This is one of those rare occasions.
I don't want the main news stories of the day to be easier to find, because we all know how that's done.
The NYT is not well served by it's female opinion writers.
Dowd is outdated and pure snark. Goldberg is just stupid. And this writer seems to have been hired last year to represent the "27 year olds who know nothing".
“Trump is often on TV less.” This could be the new “Small boulder the size of a large boulder.”
Eight years later, Mr. Trump is often on TV less
What on earth? Is often on TV less? Is this, like Schrodinger's grammar or something?
She raises, perhaps without even realizing it, a very interesting question about Trump as social media phenomenon—despite being muted, Trump is more popular than ever. That would lead a reasonable person to think maybe social media was not as important to Trumpism as many thought.
I have no idea what Miller is getting at with her “muted image” idea. I think she’s just making stuff up.
