I don't recommend movies on Althouse blog because everyone has their own preferences. But I liked this one.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horses_of_God

It was filmed in Casablanca, and gives you some insight into how some dirt poor young kids who live in the slums of Casablanca, with no future, can get caught up in suicidal jihad. Not all of them join or stay. But it gives you some insight about why some of them would. It is in Arabic, with English subtitles. My wife, who graduated from American University in Beirut, Lebanon, and who is fluent in Arabic, tells me the subtitles are accurate. For whatever it is worth, my wife's father was a Professor of Biology at American University in Beirut, and he received his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, so that is his connection to this blog.

It's almost easy to see why Hamas attracts jihadists just as BLM attracts supporters in the black community. But it's equally easy to see that the outcome from Hamas in Gaza in 2023 is worse than what they had before 2005 just as Minneapolis is far worse for the black community than it was before the George Floyd-Soros-BLM "reforms." Government by ideologues who are interested in ideology as it justifies looting as in North Korea and in Gaza and in Minneapolis has never worked. As time goes on the ideo-looters become more rabid and their people more frantic and outsiders, revolution tourists universities, become more culpably blind. This is a situation that should be recognized and taught in political science. But unfortunately political science is teaching interpretations of situations that existed fifty years ago - that's how they blind themselves. The colonial governors are gone; so are the white supremacists; the bad government - and it is very bad in some places - is coming from the greed of locals hiding their corruption in riots evocations of the past.

I'm reading a biography of the Duke of Wellington. He tried to broker a deal between Russia and the Turks. Greece was in rebellion. The Russians wanted to intervene to support their fellow members of the Orthodox faith. The Ottomans, some of them anyway, wanted to send a large army to Greece and enslave the inhabitants (those they didn't kill). They wanted to use those slaves for cheap labor in other parts of the Ottoman Empire. Cooler heads prevailed.....When you talk of hatred, Greek/Turk divide is right up there with the Israeli/Abrab rupture. I knew this Cypriot Greek physician who was gentle and soft spoken, but when the subject turned to Turkey he would all of a sudden become inflamed with anger--real rage. I don't think he would behead Turkish babies, but the rage was murderous.....I'm familiar with the kind of resentment that many Irish feel against the English, and, of course, as an American I know all about the divide here between Blacks and whites, but this was magnitudes greater....In America, a lot of the anger is performative, but there are parts of the world where people truly want to kill each other based on race or creed.

LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — The man wanted in the mass shooting at a bowling alley and bar that killed 18 people and wounded 13 was found dead Friday, bringing an end to a search that put the entire state of Maine on edge for the last two days.

Robert Card, who was wanted in connection with the shootings at Schemengees Bar and Grille and at Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley in Lewiston, was found dead in Lisbon Falls, Maine, Gov. Janet Mills said at a Friday night news conference.

Commissioner of Maine Department of Public Safety Mike Sauschuck said Card was found at 7:45 p.m. near the Androscoggin River of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He declined to provide a specific address.

Police found Card’s body at a recycling facility where he recently worked, a law enforcement official told the AP. The official was not authorized to discuss details of the investigation publicly and spoke to The AP on condition of anonymity.

A bulletin sent to police across the country shortly after the attack said Card had been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks this past summer after “hearing voices and threats to shoot up” a military base.

A U.S. official said Card was training with the Army Reserve’s 3rd Battalion, 304th Infantry Regiment in West Point, New York, when commanders became concerned about him.

State police took Card to the Keller Army Community Hospital at West Point for evaluation, according to the official, who was not authorized to publicly discuss the information and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Authorities had scoured the woods and hundreds of acres of family-owned property, sent dive teams with sonar to the bottom of a river and scrutinized a possible suicide note Friday in the second day of their intensive search for Card.

"Green” energy companies and electric vehicle manufacturers rely on governments to force consumers to buy their products, like it or not. But there is a limit to how much of a decline in their standard of living voters are willing to accept for the sake of “green” mythology. Blackouts have already begun (not to mention skyrocketing electricity prices), and as blackouts become more widespread, voters are going to punish the politicians who lied to them about “green” energy. Let’s hope that happens before tens of billions more dollars are poured into the coffers of the cynical “green” industries.

There are literally millions of us and I never come over here and find y'all saying shit that's complementary. BTW - This is not a statement about the Althouse blog, Ann, or Meade, but about many of the commenters, who are more racist than they suspect - as is the Republican Party - which is why everybody, who leaves the Democrats, soon becomes an independent once the'vey tried the GOP out.

Crack, it's impossible to say "nice things about black people" when there are, I don't know, a billion black people in the world, and they all have different souls and ideas and personalities and beliefs and attitudes.

I don't know 99.99% of the black people in the world. Never met them, haven't exchanged any words with them, have no basis for any opinion whatsoever.

Anything "nice" I say about people when I have no idea who they are is fantasy, surely.

I can say plenty of nice things about my neighbors, Shea and Travis, or King, who is in my Bible study, or JoAnne, who is also in my Bible study. I can say nice things about Clarence Thomas, who I love, or Richard Pryor, who I also love. I am amazed by Frederick Douglass. I am inspired by Reverend King.

You never heard me saying nice things about black people because I say nice things about all kinds of people, and I do not identify them as white, black, brown, yellow, red, or multi-colored.
They are people who I say are good or nice or skilled or talented or friendly, and their color is irrelevant. (Their sexuality is even less relevant, unless we are discussing romantic relationships).
The mostly white conservatives who comment here would eagerly vote for any one of the Republican POC's who are running for president over either of the lily-white Democratic candidates (Biden and the congressman who is more anonymous that the Speaker).
The Intersectionalists who have taken over the left are the ones who decided that good isn't good enough unless it's black and good, and talent isn't talented enough unless it's queer and talented.
That worldview is rejected by the people you oppose. The people on your side will be disadvantaged by their inability to communicate, or think straight ("Islam is right about queers and women"). Hilarious!
Leftists are trying to redefine common words such as Man, Woman, and, now, Racist.
Racist means defining a person's worth by the race of the person.
You can try to change it, but it means what it means.
When all that is left is Queer Blacks vs. Straight Blacks, you will be the loser. If you're lucky, my folks won't let it get that far, and you will be safe.

"Thanks, to a Politician Who Did His Job

When the IRS visited my home, Jim Jordan actually did something about it. Why couldn't I call a Democrat?

A new report about IRS home visits has just been released by the House Weaponization of Government Committee, chaired by Ohio congressman Jim Jordan. It outlines disturbing issues, including confirmation that IRS agents making home visits may come without warning, using aliases, and without informing local enforcement agencies of their presence.

One of the cases outlined is my own. My home was visited by the IRS while I was testifying before Jordan’s Committee about the Twitter Files on March 9th. Sincere thanks are due to Chairman Jordan, whose staff not only demanded and got answers in my case, but achieved a concrete policy change, as IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel announced in July new procedures that would “end most” home visits.

Anticipating criticism for expressing public thanks to a Republican congressman, I’d like to ask Democratic Party partisans: to which elected Democrat should I have appealed for help in this matter? The one who called me a “so-called journalist” on the House floor? The one who told me to take off my “tinfoil hat” and put greater trust in intelligence services? The ones in leadership who threatened me with jail time? I gave votes to the party for thirty years. Which elected Democrat would have performed basic constituent services in my case? Feel free to raise a hand.

If silence is the answer, why should I ever vote for a Democrat again?

Idi Amin cared about the Palestinians.

The Butcher of Africa was a cannibal who ate black people because he thought some cult shit about eating human flesh. Wikipedia gave about one sentence to that behavior. A cannibal in the 20th century! Who murdered half a million people.

In the movie, it was said that he was obsessed with Scotland. (Great, my people, blamed again!). The ghosts of my ancestors cry out. "He's not a fookin' Scot!"

Do I take it that you are referring to the PLO seizure of an airplane in Uganda? That's why you think he "cares" for the Palestinians?

After the terrorists took the civilian airplane hostage, the PLO released all the non-Jews, wanting to only keep Jews as prisoners.

20 non-Jews said, "Fuck you, PLO, we're staying with the Jews, you'll have to murder us, too, bitches."

Those are my heroes, Crack.

Israeli commmandos flew in and took the plane, freeing almost all the hostages.

The Ugandan military often staged multiple coup attempts -- like the Germans did with Hitler -- trying to remove the fucking madman in charge of the country.

Most people have never heard of Idi Amin. Most of us have little knowledge of Africa, and maybe it's fair to blame racism for that.

On the other hand, if we knew more about all the atrocities that black people do to black people in Africa, it would weaken the racist impulse to blame white people for everything.

Crack, the media is filled with people who think like you. They repress and hide black-on-black violence, and they consciously try to find and show white-on-black violence. This racism has reached an irrational zenith in our society recently.

"The Butcher of Africa was" blah blah blah a bunch of patronizing bullshit BLAH that has absolutely nothing to do with answering the damn request to "Tell me something nice about Idi Amin." You either just wanna see yourself lecturing a black person or you just want to hear yourself talk, but - whatever you're doing - you're not paying attention to the conversation.

"Do I take it that you are referring to the PLO seizure of an airplane in Uganda? That's why you think he "cares" for the Palestinians?"

No, I saw an interview with him, and he spoke about the Israeli Palestinian problem. He had a clear understanding of it, and he sympathized with the Palestinians.

"Those are my heroes, Crack."

I don't have any heroes.

"Most people have never heard of Idi Amin. Most of us have little knowledge of Africa, and maybe it's fair to blame racism for that."

But only that. Nothing else. It's affected nothing. Just how much we know about Africa. Not how much we know about slavery or anything else. Just that. It's important that we put a boundary around what racism has affected. Never mentioned who started it. Never mention who started anything. Just keep giving weapons to one side and everything will be fine.

"On the other hand, if we knew more about all the atrocities that black people do to black people in Africa, it would weaken the racist impulse to blame white people for everything."

I grew up in South Central Los Angeles, one of the worst gang areas in the country, and my brother is a Crip - I keep telling you I've been seeing dead bodies since elementary school - but you guys are so dumb, and suffer from so much tunnel vision, that you can't see I understand black on black violence better than you ever will? Do you understand how condescending and stupid you sound?

"Crack, the media is filled with people who think like you."

That's funny because I can't find them. This is one issue that we disagree on and you guys have decided to slander me all together - cancel culture. It doesn't matter that I am conservative. It doesn't matter I'm a Trump supporter. It doesn't matter that I didn't vote for Obama or Biden. All that matters is I don't agree with you 100% of the time. Fuck you.

"They repress and hide black-on-black violence, and they consciously try to find and show white-on-black violence."

Meanwhile, you patronize me. I wonder which is worse? Because this is pretty excruciating. Have you ever seen the scene in "Trading Places" with the silly old white racists explaining commodities to Eddie Murphy? You are those old white racists right now.

"This racism has reached an irrational zenith in our society recently."

That's a lie. The zenith of racism in this country passed long ago. The Klan was riding then. What we have now are white people experiencing what it feels like to hear other people talk about them for the very first time in the history of this country. And they get very upset about it. It's never been possible before. Now you wanna scream that it's racist. But, as I pointed out, you're very comfortable when white people, here, say things like black people have to "prove" our intelligence. You don't charge that white person with racist thoughts. Or being a racist. You save that for the black guy.

"I don't know why you're acting like a virulent racist today, and on (some) other days. I know you are much smarter than that."

Ugh-huh. And I hope you're not as dumb as you appear right now. Or do you have to "prove" different to black people?
