"... why Musk has been so eager to dispel the idea that Tesla was building him an ostentatious glass house in Austin."
"For Musk, being investigated over potential violations of bureaucratic rules is nothing new and rarely slows him down. But being accused of wanting to live in a nice house of his own, like any other ordinary rich guy?
That he cannot abide."

I note the continued innuendo that if you are being investigated then you are guilty. If the coverage was Hunter Biden, regardless of investigation, there would be a line “without evidence” that wasn’t invoked by Hunter. Here, Musk must invoke it and his invocation is the premise of the story.
I heard a guy on Bloomberg yesterday. He had twice surveyed a large number of Tesla owners. He claimed that 99% of the people love the product. But since Musk bought Twitter, a very large number of them are not happy. Their love for Tesla is now tempered for Elon's "abhorrent" views. Musk has allowed Tucker Carlson on the platform.
Tesla's market cap is greater than the next 10 automakers combined. He's the richest person in the world. But now he is hated because it turns out he believes in the First Amendment and might even be a conservative.
Isn't that super weird?
Taking on the
Our corrupt collective leftist elite a-hole totalitarian Maoist neo-Stalinista Merrick-Biden-Pelosi-Hillary's can drop dead and go straight to a hell - which I hope exists -because it is where they belong.
@Althouse, you shouldn’t have bothered reading the article, much less posting it. If it’s a negative article about Elon Musk and it’s in the New York Times or the Washington Post the chances that it’s true are infinitesimally small.
Why should I care?
"Clearly, this is not a man who believes in work-life balance."
I would say his work is his life. Nothing wrong with that. And as for sleeping in the lab, I did it plenty of times. When you're responsible for raising your own funds, deadlines are real things, WaPo.
If it's false, why wouldn't Musk go out of his way to point out the falsehoods?
Poor Musk. He pissed off all leftists by trying to clean up Twitter. They will never forgive him. He and Trump and Tucker are now hated by all the right people.
...REALLY why Musk has been so eager to dispel the idea Tesla was building him a glass house in Austin
They will continue to come up with fantasies to accuse him with until the takes the knee to democrats. Unless we stop them.
Reading all the way to the fourth paragraph we learn, "At issue, ostensibly, is whether Tesla and Musk stepped afoul of federal regulations requiring disclosure of perks to executives."
It's not about the house that isn't, it's about the very important disclosure that wasn't made because there was nothing to disclose.
"Slow News Day"
"“The race was close and Johnson was getting worried. Finally he told his campaign manager to start a massive rumour campaign about his opponent’s life-long habit of enjoying carnal knowledge of his barnyard sows.
“Christ, we can’t get away with calling him a pig-f*cker,” the campaign manager protested. “Nobody’s going to believe a thing like that.”
“I know,” Johnson replied. “But let’s make the sonofabitchh deny it.”
Who really cares where the richest man in the world lays his head down, or where his kids are, or what his favorite chocolate is? The point is, he's not yet under the thumb. 'Make the sumbitch deny it' is the first sign of successful leverage being applied.
It could be a way of reminding X twitter users of the old proverb...
“Those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones” is a common, clever proverb that’s used to remind people not to criticize others for a flaw that you yourself possess. It is a way of reminding someone not to act hypocritically. The phrase is also a warning. It suggests that if you throw stones at someone’s house you’re very likely going to have someone do the same to you. The “glass house” part of the phrase is an interesting way of describing the fragility and instability of the stone-thrower’s position. Before they know it, their own issues are likely going to be exposed.”

It's total bullshit that Musk is building an ostentatious mansion for himself.
He's building it for Clarence Thomas.
The headline coyly suggests that maybe, just maybe, Musk actually has been getting Tesla to build him the "ostentatious" glass house, as WaPo had earlier reported based on the usual anonymous sources.
But, has the WaPo, with its dozens of reporters, fact-checkers and layers of editors, actually produced anything concrete to support this implication? I read the article, and saw nothing of that sort. No plans (which would require public permit applications down at City Hall), no purchase orders or contracts (which would probably involve dozens of outside companies), no interviews with project managers, no photos of pre-construction site preparation, nothing. No indication of any such effort to confirm, either.
So what's the point of insinuating that Musk is lying, if you don't show something that supports that? Character assassination, plain and simple. Musk is not a creature of the left, and that can't be accepted.
Wonder why the public's trust in the media is broken? This, as an example.
Musk Versus The Demon
I read the article. It seems that Musk is eager to dispel the idea that Tesla is building him a glass house because they aren't, in fact, building him a glass house. What an egomaniac that Elon is, insisting on the truth.
Will U Reamus?
Solving for the equation, it appears X = -$44 billion.
The real estate speculation caused by the Tesla factory location here in Austin was fun to watch. I didn't participate because (1) I am too poor to play games like that, and (2) the really, really big money was being made by the speculators who did so much buying based on their insider information about the precise location of the toll highway years ago. Austin is fun, and if Musk needs a house I have one for sale, for a mere $2.1million, located less than 20 minutes from his factory for sale (for given traffic conditions, like 3am on a Tuesday morning).
I read that quote and just think the source is projecting big-time.

LOL. If only they had windmill as well.
Diversity politics. 50 shades of Martha's Vineyard on the coast, not on the border.
@Dave Begley
Tesla still owns the EV market. They sell a transportation system, not cars. When viewed through that lens, one realizes how far behind the other car manufacturers are. From the integrated charging experience all the way from the placement of charging stations down to be able to have your kids looking forward to the charging stop to play games, over to the great drive train. This while taking 1/3 of the time to manufacture the vehicles compared to the competitors. Not sure about that share price though….
Old and slow: "I read the article. It seems that Musk is eager to dispel the idea that Tesla is building him a glass house because they aren't, in fact, building him a glass house. What an egomaniac that Elon is, insisting on the truth."
Correct.
However there are much more nefarious motives in play for our New Soviet Democraticals.
Remember, a couple executive perks, the likes of which just about every executive on Wall Street and elsewhere had received for a hundred years, was the mechanism used to convict the Trump Org CFO to years in prison (basically a death sentence at his age)...and to try and get that CFO to lie about Trump. He refused.
The abuse and selective enforcement and lunatic twisting for lawfare purposes of these rules/regs against regime enemies, similar to how the New Soviet Democraticals use FARA laws, is what our democraticals are testing out to see if they can sideline Musk and take over his enterprises and put those enterprises to work for the democratical crew.
Particularly X.
Same thing with Justice Thomas and Alito.
The New Soviet Democraticals have fully established their kafkaesque Kangaroo Courts in their 100% radical soviet/dem jurisdictions and will be accelerating their efforts to drag all political opponents into their Star Chambers.
There are those who assert that once the Leftists have reached this degree of corruption, with the willing acquiesence of the controlled opposition (GOPe), there is no longer any viable way of voting yourselves out of this predicament.
"For Musk, being investigated over potential violations of bureaucratic rules..."
"Bureaucratic rules" have nothing to do with it. He's being investigated for the same reason Trump is- they both are interfering with our rulers' plans to enrich themselves at the expense of the little people.
Boy, these leftwing corksoakers sure want to take Musk out!
What scum they are.
The New Soviet Democraticals have fully established their kafkaesque Kangaroo Courts in their 100% radical soviet/dem jurisdictions and will be accelerating their efforts to drag all political opponents into their Star Chambers.
Boy, is that true ! Next thing the Democrats will try is to dig up Andrey Vyshinsky to get some tips from an expert.
Musk has something that almost no one else does to protect him - SpaceX. Screw him too much, and he can distance himself a bit from the DOD and NASA. They need him more than he needs them. He puts their satellites into orbit, on an expedited basis, and now delivers astronauts to the ISS for them. SpaceX will apparently put more satellites into orbit this year than all of the other launch companies and agencies in the world.
When musk has enough tech for survival in place, I have a feeling his jumps planet got Mars and a bunch of brace souls go with him never to return to earth. Every company he owns is designed for uses on Mars. I’m guessing even X even if I can’t figure out how.

More or less a certificate of innocence.
It is interesting how the politicized government/media works now. First Space x is sued for not hiring people that the government would have arrested Elon for hiring. A few weeks later he is accused of having Space x plan to build a house.
Do you know that it is legal for companies to provide housing for executives? The Ebenezer Church does it for Sen. Warnock, who has a million dollar house, but as a senator he is limited in outside income (ha ha.)
There is going to be a third accusation against Elon in a few weeks. Remember the chart where Trump was accused within a day of each release of Beiden crime documentation?
