"The pastel makeup and modest clothing that are the hallmark of 'good for marriage' style are based on Brilliant Girls, a 2021 drama..."
"... that centres around a woman who wants to get married as quickly as possible.... On China’s microblogging platform Weibo women have attacked the trend.... 'I’m desperately working towards the "difficult to marry style." I love exercising, shopping and I’m a super feminist who loves to argue,' said one woman in response to the trend.
[Another] response... said... '[E]very day, there are people commenting... "I really want to marry a wife like this." Alright, we get it; you want a free housemaid.'..."

gilbar looks into his crystal 8-ball, and says: "i see cats, in your future."
remember the Olden Days? back when the population of the earth, was keeping up with the death rate?
Beautiful, Ann. Always enjoyable and inspiring. Congratulations, and appreciation of your discipline in early morning runs with your cameta.
These Chinese women can afford to thumb their noses at the “good for marriage” style (and stereotype). China’s “one child” policy, coupled with that country’s acceptance of abortion for gender selection, has left women of prime marrying age with a surfeit of eligible males among whom they can pick and choose. Situation is the other way around for American college educated (indoctrinated) women desiring a college-educated husband. The ratio is 3:2 against them so they might want to try that “good for marriage style.”
Surfeit Chinese national males give females who survive abortion or infanticide or are adopted overseas more choices?
The opposite disparity is occurring on college campuses here. Are the effects the same or different?
But I don't trust media manufactured trend stories to explain the cultural outcomes of either experiment.
The conflict isn’t between men and women.
It’s between women who want to be married and those who don’t.
The shortage of women in China gives them some power to do what they want. Good for them for not letting the opportunity get away.
Is this part of a global "tradwife" movement?

Feminism ran through several...self-contradictory and unsettled...waves across 50+ years. The latest 'feminist' movement lionized transgendered males who took the spotlight and power from biological women--and aggressively shut women up. But, the law of gravity cannot be resisted. Hot stoves still burn. Staring at the sun still blinds. Women remain women.
Get over it.
It sounds like one of those societies where the men expect to go from being taken care of by their mother to being taken care of by their wife, and from the woman's point of view, marriage means giving up a career and being told to shut up and make dinner. Like others have said, though, the demographics may now give women some leverage to change the expectations going into a marriage.

The joke's on them! Today's women can't make dinner.
Most men don't know that the best way to find a wife with traditional values is to live by those values yourself, thus associating with the demographic of interest for potential marriage. Mail order brides are a big risk, as seen on "90 Day Fiance," and living a Chad Millenial lifestyle leaves one meeting only Tinder babes. Try joining a church, if you want to meet eligible females of traditional values.
