"Hey, look! It's my giant underpants!"

Previously blogged, here, in August 2008.

Funnily, the first commenter is Meade, whom I did not know at the time but would be married to a year later, in a real-life instantiation of the oft-repeated Pee Wee question, "Why don't you marry him?"

Meade's comment: "Ah. Now I can die."

All I could think of was Dylan Mulvaney, minus the creativity.

He always cracked me up. I remember watching his old show years ago, and seeing Laurence Fishburne on it. I was mesmerized by the entire thing. I didn't set my week to watch Pee Wee, but if I happened across it after that, I watched it...and laughed. He was pretty brilliant in his own way.

I don't know how each person finds their niche, but Paul's was unique for sure. And he was funny. RIP.

HBO used to play the film of Herman’s 1981 show around 15 to 20 years ago. Perhaps they will show it again now.

Pee Wee's Playhouse and Ralph Bakshi's Mighty Mouse were amazing back to back Saturday morning fare on CBS in the mid 80s. Delightfully subversive and funny as hell.

I thought peewee was hilarious.

You need to write a book on yours and Meade’s romance. Seriously.

On another note, “funnily”? Seems like that word shouldn’t exist.

But funnily enough, it does.

"Funnily" and "instantiation" in a single sentence, in a post about Pee Wee. Where else can you find that?

Well played Meade. Well played.

To the annoynce of my wife whenever he shows up on screen I yell, "Cowboy Curtis!", which never fails to crack my two daughters up.

There are some things in life which must always remain a mystery.

I remember Hammy, the character played by ace musician Tito Larriva. They always used the old shiny shoe to catch the reflection of girls’ underpants with a strategically placed foot under a skirt.

He and his band, The Tarantulas, can be seen in the bar playing behind Salma Hayek in “From Dusk til Dawn“.
