"What is she thinking? That’s not a promotion, not even a lateral move. Then you still have Musk owning Twitter..."

"... and in a lead role. You’ll be his puppet and designated fall girl."

That's the top-rated comment on "Who is Linda Yaccarino, Elon Musk’s reported pick for Twitter CEO?" (WaPO). The job she's leaving is NBCUniversal ad sales chief.

Those who previously felt censored, bullied, and intimidated will move if they feel there's hope to earn a living while speaking their minds. They just need a viable economic path, and Musk created a huge one with Twitter.

The worm turns.

Goldenpause म्हणाले...

I’m sure she’ll make a lot money working for Musk than she would ever hope to make elsewhere. Pay me enough and I’ll be your fall guy.

rehajm म्हणाले...

You’ll be his puppet

Since when has the left stopped ignoring rules they don’t like? If there’s something limiting to her agenda she’ll just ignore it…

tim maguire म्हणाले...

Perhaps Musk shared his vision with her.

NBCUniversal ad sales will never be more and will likely be less as we go forward. There are huge possibilities opening up for Twitter.

Michael म्हणाले...

Maybe she sees the future and wants to be part of it. And has had enough wokery-pokery.

Whiskeybum म्हणाले...

What was she thinking?

What was HE thinking??

Of all the talent available in the world to be the CEO of this tech company, why zero in on someone affiliated with NBC?

The Vault Dweller म्हणाले...

If anything I think Musk being associated with it would insulate her to an extent, because those who are upset with new Twitter and Musk are probably more likely to always believe that Musk is the one pulling the strings. That decreases her value as a fall girl.

Also I don't know much about her, but given her previous role in ad sales, it seems like Musk wants to focus on monetizing and increasing revenue for Twitter.

R C Belaire म्हणाले...

WaPo readers have such insight! How do they acquire that?

Quaestor म्हणाले...

Fall-girl? Obviously, the WaPo readership is mostly a rabble of rabid misogynists and wife-beaters, but we suspected that already. But here's conclusive proof. A respectful person would say fall-woman.

Assistant Village Idiot म्हणाले...

As usual, the story was written months ago and merely decorated after the announcement.

The designated hate for Musk is both amusing and frightening. They don’t even know why they hate him.

Concerned advice, probably from an unemployed barista who's 2nd in command in a household that consists of himself and a cat.

Could be worse, she could have been responsible for WaPo ad sales.

Esteban म्हणाले...

Considering I never heard of her until now, it seems like a step up in terms of public recognition not to mention likely a step up in overall compensation opportunities and prestige. Aren't we supposed to celebrate women leading one of the most high profile organizations in the world?

CJinPA म्हणाले...

Is it possible to find someone with experience running a large corporate operation, but who hasn't succumbed to intense progressive DEI, "social justice" ideology?

It doesn't seem likely. And the videos I've seen of this women reading from NBCUniversal's corporate progressive scripture make the likelihood seem quite remote.

hombre म्हणाले...

WaPo readers will likely not understand the appeal of getting away from the progressive pygmies at NBC to work for a giant like Musk.

Also, do I smell sexism in that comment?

Jake म्हणाले...

Doesn't sound lateral to me. I also assume a dumptruck of money/stock optios is involved.

Drago म्हणाले...

I think Linda Yaccarino, a stealthy free speech fangirl who was last seen liking Jack Prosobiec tweets, is a nice match/fit for the Twitter exec team. Her skill sets definitely do not overlap with Elon, who will still be in charge of the code and overall tech, which is moving to open source.

And something tells me that for Linda, the long range plans for "X", with all that will entail, will more than make up for any lost ideological lefty whackjobs she leaves behind as she moves solidly into the Twitter role.

People screaming about her WEF role, a networking role at best, aren't thinking about this logically, though, given recent history its perfectly acceptable to say "trust but verify" as time goes on.

Mark म्हणाले...

Is that all anyone knows anymore? Knee-jerk reflexive ad hominem hate?

So being a "puppet" under Michael Cavanagh (CEO of NBCUniversal) is normal and fine but under that Elon Musk it's a terrible thing. Because in WaPo land Musk is eeevil, doncha know.

Also, Yaccarino's banker could probably quickly clear up the question of whether the Twitter CEO spot for her is a promotion or not.

n.n म्हणाले...

his puppet and designated fall girl

Empathetic misogynistic hope and dream. Envy?

Wince म्हणाले...

Further evidence Twitter is moving into news and video content delivery?

Mary Beth म्हणाले...

I'm not impressed that a comment is popular when I think that most people who up-vote it have no idea what goes into being a CEO or an ad sales chief at a major company. Also, perhaps she's a risk-taker and that's the attitude that's required for a job at that level.

What is the internet for, if not for second-guessing other people's life choices? (Besides the obvious - cat videos and porn.)

And WHAT would fix THAT? Should the government* nationalize it, and give it to NPR?

the government* note that i did NOT say "our government".. and i certainly did NOT say "my government"

chuck म्हणाले...

Gwynne Shotwell has done well with SpaceX, I don't see why Linda Yaccarino can't succeed at Twitter. I find the changes going on with twitter refreshing despite the occasional hiccup. It has come to life after years of stagnation.

The Tangerine Tornado म्हणाले...

"ailing microblogging platform"

So the ailing, once respected publisher of a bygone era claims without evidence that the hiring of an executive from an ailing, once respected broadcaster of a bygone era might restore Twitters culture and atmosphere to something WaPo might admire.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Still waiting for Twitter to collapse, Mark.

Sean म्हणाले...

Zerohedge claims she is a WEF stooge. So who knows what future Twitter will look like.

Earnest Prole म्हणाले...

Twitter is now worth less than a quarter of what Elon Musk paid for it (think the Bud Light catastrophe multiplied by three) so now might be a good time to attempt a turnaround.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

CEO is not a step up from ad sales chief? In what universe? I guess stupidity is a necessary precondition for Musk-hatred.

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!! The irony just screams down the quarter mile.

Left Bank of the Charles म्हणाले...

I would say that the No. 2 job at Twitter is a big step up from being somewhere on the org chart at a subsidiary of Comcast. The more interesting thing is that Musk went with someone whose expertise is selling ads, rather than someone with expertise in technology.

JaimeRoberto म्हणाले...

The management might be answerable to the shareholders? What kind of crazy idea is that?

MikeD म्हणाले...

Gotta love it! The "Right" hates her because WEF and mask support when all the (then) respected scientists said it was necessary. The "Left" hates her because she follows a dozen or more Conservatives on Twitter.

There were probably 100's of resumes. dozens of interviews people selling themselves to get this job. Musk needs revenue, She's an advertising marketer. She sold musk on her ability to reach the goals he has in mind.

Musk has hired hundreds of very accomplished people to implement his varied visions. I'll bet he's not happy with all of them. Only time will tell if its a good fit.

But SHE WANTED this job.

People making guesses about the motivations of others are clueless.

Given the success of all if not most of Musk inc, he must have some keen insight for picking people to work for him. Dooming his pick for Twitter is the kind of wishful thinking expected of Trump critics.

Mikey NTH म्हणाले...

When Musk bought Twitter he terrified people because he wasn't going to let it stay as a closed ecosystem for one political view. This made him a villain of nearly Trump-like proportions. Anyone who assists hom at Twitter is also a villain and must be dissuaded, and if that fails, mocked and destroyed.
