"This sudden enthusiasm for cottage cheese has been attributed partly to a new generation focused on protein and nutrients and also madly keen on 'bowl' meals..."

"... filled with grains, vegetables and fruit. 'All of these ingredients together make for a super nutrient dense cottage cheese bowl that will have you full for literally hours'...."

We're told there are blogs and TikToks devoted to re-popularizing cottage cheese. One suggestion is to whip it (in a blender, I think) to change the oft-disliked consistency and make it more like the substance that — over the last 50 years — replaced it: yogurt.

Cottage Cheese with French Dressing: Something my Mom loved.
I like plain cottage cheese. The texture is a bonus!

if (IF) you're having a salad for lunch (because it's "good for you!")

If you replace the iceberg lettuce with broccoli,
and the replace the ranch dressing with cottage cheese.. You'll have a salad that IS good for you

NOTE: i said Replace the ranch dressing, NOT still have the ranch dressing
IF you're having ranch dressing on your salad; Please stop pretending that it's "good for you"
At Lease, please Stop telling Me, that it's good for you

Serious Question: a hamburger or a package of ranch; Which has More calories? Which has More fat?

Never underestimate the power of the Dairy industry. And if they collaborate with Big Jello on this cottage cheese resurgence, invest in Bundt pan makers. Those molded Jello salads, full of cottage cheese and canned fruit salad, could arise from my childhood memories to be a reality once again!

I love cottage cheese! The curds are my favorite part. What a timely post - we have no healthy snacks in the house at present.

(I like it savory - with salt and pepper. I don't think I've ever tried it with fruit or anything sweet - maybe I ought to give it a go.)

A side serving of cottage cheese with canned fruit cocktail was a childhood staple.

You can gouge my eye with a spoon before I eat that again.

My brother's favorite snack for years was cottage cheese, Ruffles, and grapefruit juice (not the sweetened cocktail). I substitute orange juice for a little less puckering.

I bought a lot of cottage cheese in the last because it was sort of a memory for my mom who had dementia. We mised it with fruit and she loved it. she passed recently and I have a good amount left. I also have some leftover Apple Butter which I will mix with it for me. It made her happy at the end. I also bought a lot of yogurt at Costco and found she did not like that. I'm working my way through that also.
One suggestion not related to the article. Jimmy Dean's blueberry pancake around a sausage on a stick. My mom loved that because she didn't need help. Very much worth it.

Cottage Cheese - Two burning questions:

1. Why did they invent it?
2. How did they know when they were done?

A friend introduced me to pizza and cottage cheese (a side dish). Only way I eat cottage cheese, but I like it.

Long ago, when I was losing weight, I had cottage cheese with pineapple for lunch almost every day.

Tasty and filling.

I got a Ninja Creami and have been have a good time with it--you pre-freeze your sorbet or ice cream base and then it grinds it very fine, Paco-Jet style, and you're left with a creamy consistency in about 2 minutes. I dumped a can of pineapple chunks in juice directly into the machine's jar, froze it overnight, and processed it into a delicious sorbet. Cleanup takes about 2 minutes, too--I highly recommend it.
Anyway unbeknownst to me the machine is apparently a hit on TikTok so when I told a friend of mine about it she said "you mean the TikTok ice cream thing" and told me it was sold out or backordered at many retailers.
I plan to try making frozen yogurt out of a local farm's dairy but cottage cheese wasn't on my radar--I'll definitely consider how to incorporate some, just for protein. Some of the recipes I've seen for actual ice cream using the machine have small amounts of cream cheese along with the milk/cream/half-and-half, so cottage cheese might work.

I like cottage cheese (except with too-sweet things like fruit salad), mostly as an addition in a salad. My mother gave it to us with potato chips. It's still my favorite chip dip.

This sounds interesting. I'll give it a try. Federal law requires me to add "As part of a nutritious breakfast".

I like sesame seeds with some pepper; if I'm feeling fancy I'll drizzle some balsamic vinegar over top, too. I like this Nonna Pia's Balsamic Glaze (basically just balsamic with some sugar to thicken) but it's a pretty strong flavor. I had a friend who use to alternate between cottage cheese with applesauce and cottage cheese with banana slices for lunch but I don't mix it up that much.

i used sunflower seeds, 'cause that's what we had at the salad bar at work*

the salad bar at work* where gilbar would get to wait, while the ladies in front of him would each put THREE ladles** of ranch dressing on their iceberg lettuce

ladles** Actually, IF you take the ranch dressing ladle, and turn it upside down (letting it All pour out), and THEN hold it over your cottage cheese (getting about three DROPS of ranch).. it IS pretty good

I am fussy with my cottage cheese. I am from Connecticut, and Hood Dairy from Agawam Massachusetts on the border with Suffield Connecticut makes the ABSOLUTE best!! Others taste oily to me. I like it with cherry tomatoes!! One of my favorite lunches.
But unfortunately, it is hard to find in New Jersey, so when I go to Connecticut to see family, I try to stock up.

I alternate between yogurt and cottage cheese every morning. I get those little cups of cottage cheese with fruit, very convenient, and more likely to be eaten than if I have to prepare it myself.

Ah, that explains it. I ran across these Starbuck's Egg Bite recipes. They all called for cottage cheese and blending. Didn't seem cottage cheese really brought more than milk which would be easier. I did make some but using a Bacon Flan recipe which use milk and eggs. No onion or cheese so apparently not a quiche. Not bad, couple-bite scrambled egg thingies. The flan is easier and if I drift into quiche territory, well, it doesn't mean I'm not a real man...does it?

now I see the obsession with cottage cheese in the recipe.

Don’t pick on jello fruit salads. They are tasty and easy to make. A huge bonus when you’re cooking five dishes, three desserts, and two or three appetizers.

I make them two or three times a year as a treat for larger family gatherings. I include it as one of the dessert options on the buffet. It always gets eaten.

For those of you who haven’t experienced the joy of jello fruit salad here’s the recipe

Box of orange jello
Container small curd cottage cheese
Can crushed pineapple drained
Can mandarin oranges drained
Container of Cool Whip

Combine first three. Fold in last two. Let sit in fridge at least four hours.

Even my husband’s non trailer park side of the family loves it.

Cottage cheese has been a long-time favorite of mine, either with fresh-ground black pepper or mixed with medium-heat salsa. Then scoop with Saltine crackers. Yum!

I am a lifelong eater of cottage cheese. I see no point in whipping it into a smoothie. The entire point of it is the curds.

Cut up some radishes, green onion, and cuke and mix it in there. Good stuff.

Ann, my wife makes a terrific seed cracker. Cottage cheese would probably be good on them. Send me $25 and we'll send you a batch. Or...order today and we'll send you a SECOND batch of crackers for only another $2. (plus shipping). Cottage cheese not included.

I've not actually ever eaten her crackers, but her friends all tell us how good they are. Are they simply being nice? Polite? Don't want to hurt her feelings before belching them out of their cheeks upon leaving our house? Hard for me to say. But our above offer still stands.

You might also want to try Cabot plain yogurt. I like to add a LITTLE brown sugar and either cinnamon or cocoa powder. Jam or preserves are also good.
