Had a conversation with the CEO of one of my smarter software company clients this afternoon. The company has revenue so mostly he does sales, but there are still parts of the code that he has responsibility for, rather than one of the engineers. He said that he just completed what would have been a two day coding project in 4 hours - with Chat GPT doing most of the work.
He thinks that good software has just become a commodity. And he is wondering about the future of capitalism as we knew it.
Tyler Cowan is not wrong.
I'm hearing distant drum beats. Like those in the mines of Moria.
As Tyler said. Hope to see you on the other side. For those that don't already have theirs, only the very fastest may survive.
Just in case this is a cafe thread, I want to note that one of the 9 year old children murdered by Audrey Hale was the daughter of a Presbyterian minister who had been counseling Ms. Hale. I can accept a coincidence, but this fact is way past "coincidence" and over the line into "you can't believe it's a coincidence unless you are unbelievably gullible."
Something I read on a website for expert witnesses that made me laugh out loud: “As disconcerting as it may be, unscrupulous activity does exist in the legal industry.”
In the wake of the slaughter of the Christians, how does Biden's spokesidiot Karine Jean-Pierre respond: "And our hearts go out to those — the trans community as they are under attack right now, ..... But this is a President who has said many times before he has their backs. He will continue to have their backs. And he will continue to fight for them. And his record shows that.”
“ Glenn Beck said that the Fundamental Transformation is now complete. Prove him wrong.”
Glenn needs to read his Book of Mormon and Isaiah more. All is going as foreseen and warned by the prophets of old. It may well go quite bad from a worldly perspective, but his church leaders don’t seems to share his arms of alarm, probably for one reason because they know Who is in control. (By the way, the annual general conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints this weekend Saturday and Sunday at 10 and 2 MDT so you can watch yourself what they think and what they’re saying on YouTube or at LDS.org)
From the Book of Mormon. “ 10 For behold, this is a land which is choice above all other lands; wherefore he that doth possess it shall serve God or shall be swept off; for it is the everlasting decree of God. And it is not until the fulness of iniquity among the children of the land, that they are swept off. 11 And this cometh unto you, O ye Gentiles, that ye may know the decrees of God—that ye may repent, and not continue in your iniquities until the fulness come, that ye may not bring down the fulness of the wrath of God upon you as the inhabitants of the land have hitherto done. 12 Behold, this is a choice land, and whatsoever nation shall possess it shall be free from bondage, and from captivity, and from all other nations under heaven, if they will but serve the God of the land, who is Jesus Christ, who hath been manifested by the things which we have written.”
Unfortunately this is little comfort if one is refusing to repent and looking only for more sex, drugs, and rock and roll. But for those who are trying to serve the God of this land, things will be OK despite having to endure the calamity of seeing the Lord using the wicked to destroy the wicked.

The weird part is I genuinely don't know, now, whether the Nice People like Prof Althouse oppose this kind of heckler's veto on a college campus now; a few months ago I would have been sure they'd oppose it but after their arguments regarding the Stanford Law incident I'm honestly not sure. Hey, a mob interrupting a speech/meeting by a group they oppose, shouting down speakers, being physically intimidating and refusing to leave even when ordered to by law enforcement--those are all just different kinds of speech, right? I mean it's a college campus so that has to be up for debate, or something.
It's already over-subscribed so there's a possibility that you won't be able to get any shares.
Currently valued at $585 million for the pre-money valuation.
I think Substack is potentially more valuable than NYT ($6 billion valuation), Fox News ($16 billion valuation) or even Twitter ($44 billion valuation when Musk bought them).
Significant possibility that you will lose your entire investment, of course. So buyer beware. (The way I deal with that risk is by keeping my initial investment small, either in dollar amount or as a percentage of assets). Also I invest in companies that I think will improve our world, and I love the Substack commitment to free speech. So I'm hoping the platform is a success and I see an investment here as similar to giving money to a political candidate (except you might have the added bonus of making a lot of money via the investment). So if you want to help good journalism thrive, you might consider making a small investment.
I am so worried about what is going to happen to our country. College idiots attacking PRO-Lifers and calling them FASCISTS just goes to show how ignorant they are. They know NOT what they are doing. There has to be a civil war, because Obama made sure to fundamentally change America into the divisive hell hole it has become today.

Fans of Matt Taibbi or Glenn Greenwald
or independent journalism in general
might want to make a small investment in their platform
Substack
Ordinary people can invest anywhere between $100 and $2,200. Over that amount and there are legal limits that apply.
My family is investing $2,000.
Mini-roadshow here.
