The questioner tries to make it about Santos — a ridiculous distraction that McCarthy rebuffs: the lies of Schiff and Swalwell are more relevant and consequential. McCarthy doesn't get sucked into trying to minimize Santos's lies. He just maximizes Schiff and Swalwell's lies. Maximizes or right-sizes.

Adam "I'm a sad fat little goth girl that cuts herself" Schiff is probably going to head home, wipe the tears from his eyes, eat some ice cream, then put on his gimp suit and watch some kiddie porn while stuffing himself with the largest dildo in his collection. Then, once he feels better, will probably start going frantically through the whole house for any TS/SCI marked documents....
...you just know he's got em. At this point who in DC doesn't, right? Being the intelligence chair, he was very conscientious...I'm sure. They're in a secure room, in a safe, right next to the dungeon and the baby cages.
Let’s make this clear - Swalwell was fucking a Chinese spy whilst on the House Intelligence Committee. There’s no way to sugarcoat that fact. I love how close McCarthy comes to actually saying those exact words.
Please keep gadfly and Chuck in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Well done! He said what needed to be said about these perfidious bums.
Shitbirds of the First Order.
This is the reason Santos ran, and the reason why the media didn't make any attempt to publicize his resume prior to the election.
The media need him as an anchor. He's probably in on the scam. Somebody lent his campaign half a million US dollars. He's now changed his FEC forms to indicate that it wasn't HIM who did that.
And notice there's no rush by the media to find out who gave him those funds.
I particularly like the, I paraphrase, "They lied, people know they lied, but their constituents voted for them anyway" part in there.
Somebody found their balls. About time.
Let's be thankful that the Trump supporting Freedom Caucus held McCarthy's feet to the fire to become Speaker.
I'm impressed, if that's the right word, that the reporters didn't try to shout him down, but rather sat quietly and listened to that very cogent response.
I'm also bemused that when I was typing the above into my phone, autocorrect replaced "reporters" with "terrorists" and "shout" with "shoot." Message from the universe?
And finally - I'm concerned that no one who leans conservative or even centrist is going to encourage a kid to go into journalism, since journalists have such a terrible reputation these days. As a field, it's going to go left-er and left-er until - what?
This story isn’t clear at all. Certainly not from McCarthy’s end.
What is the basis — how McCarthy was briefed about Swalwell — for judging him to be unfit to serve on Intel, where Swalwell has served under Speaker John Boehner and Speaker Paul Ryan?
McCarthy just made this a two-problem for himself, and one which of course satisfies the Trump Wing, but which outrages the mainstream wing. OF HIS OWN PARTY! Where his margin for majority is a small handful of votes and where that small handful will get even smaller as long as Rep. Greg Steube remains hospitalized and when Georgia Santos gets indicted.
https://www.msnbc.com/the-last-word/watch/rep-swalwell-mccarthy-is-abusing-his-power-to-exact-political-vengeance-161393733738
Good for McCarthy. But why did Dems think it was a good idea to have those clowns serve in sensitive positions in the first place?
Partisan lies are their MO. "Intelligence" is just another tool to beat their domestic enemies.
Many Americans are fine with it.
Why wasn't Swalwell arrested? McCarthy got the FBI briefing and said it was very bad.
When Swalwell was running for President, I took his picture underneath a sign that says "used cars." I kid you not. It is at Power Line.
As someone who detest both parties: that was pretty persuasive.
A pretty decent takedown; has McCarthy been watching and learning from videos of Ron DeSantis dealing with dumb questions from the media? Re Santos, it would have been amusing if McCarthy had finished off by reminding the Democrat stenographer that Joe Biden has a long history of fabulisms and saying he lookejavascript:void(0)d forward to hearing her ask Biden when he would resign.
LLR and Whitmer fanboy Chuck: "This story isn’t clear at all."
LOL
There is, literally, no level of disgrace a democratical could hit that would preclude our fake "LLR" from automatically coming to that democratical's defense.
It's positively Pavlovian...and hilarious.
Pithily?
I like the way that he first put the reporter in her place for being contemptuous of his initial answer, the one she didn't let him finish. It seems pretty clear that he had an answer prepared for the anticipated question - good for him! It earns him points in my book.
A question for the audience regarding the 'Adam Schiff Lied' history: At the time, what was to prevent Republicans on that same committee, with those same briefings, from jumping in after Schiff lied and saying for the cameras: "I was in the same briefings that dickhead was in, and I can tell you straight, he is flat-out lying his *ss off here. None of that is true; He's a no-good four-flushing liar." What was to stop them from saying this, about the Trump dossier, about Russian Collusion, and so forth? It would not have been giving any National Security secrets away, correct? Republicans would get a lot more respect if they stood up once in a while, and even more if they fought as dirty as Democrats do.
McCarthy may be getting some pushback on Ilhan Omar. Schiff lies and leaks. Swalwell is a security risk. But why Omar is on the list hasn't been clarified. She's anti-American, sure, but up until now that hasn't been a disqualifier for sitting on congressional committees.
Meh, Mccarthy is a middle manager. His tenure as Speaker will be unremarkable, at best. At worst, he'll fold when things get tough because he doesn't have the brains to think outside the box, nor the balls to endure a bloody fight.
Chuck, it’s possible you missed the part where Swalwell began banging a Chinese spy, who worked her way into his confidence while he service on the intelligence committee. That’s the material fact that changed and that Pelosi ignored. We don’t know if he shared secrets. But at minimum his judgment is in question. He wouldn’t get a security clearance in the private sector and he shouldn’t have access to the country’s national security intelligence. I don’t like McCarthy for a lot of reasons but he’s on solid ground on this one.
The problem wasn't Schiff and Swallwell. The problem isn't even those who consumed Schiff and Swalwell, making it their entertainment choice. It was in taking their own subsequent votes as part of the entertainment.
This isn't cutting off their votes as their own entertainment. Shaming the wrong people.
Funny to see Chuck blame his ignorance of a 2 year old story on McCarthy.
I have zero doubt that the Democrats will find a way to use their control over the DoJ to indict Santos for being a Republican, "Show me the man", and all that.
I also am totally unsurprised that there are so-called Republicans out there who don't give a flying fuck that Schiff simply lied to the American people without shame. Or that Swalwell used such poor judgement as to sleep with a Chinese spy, and we are all supposed to believe that there are zero other Democrats who could do the job as well as this proven weak link.
All life long Republicans like Chuck get their talking points from MSNBC.
It’s not clear only if you’re a moron or a piece of shit. I suppose it could be both.
McCarthy sounded like a truly concerned citizen. Why do I find myself pleasantly surprised?
Chuck,
McCarthy’s actions were completely justified.
Swallwell was involved with a Chinese spy. Once that became known he should have been removed forthwith. There is absolutely no justification for him to remain in the committee.
Schiff continually used his position on the committee to knowingly spread lies for partisan purposes. This taints the entire committee’s work. If a member even hints at what is in material that crosses their desk (even if the hint is a lie) they should no longer be on the committee.
I am by no means a Trumper but I am thrilled by this.
I like it - but it probably just made Schiff CA's next senator.
Chuck.
You probably missed the part where Swalwell was boning a Chinese spy. That kinda compromises him for any position where national security is involved.
You're not very good at this "gaslight" thing are you?
Swalwell answering this last night:
https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1618081811401244676
Chuck is still convinced that there's a pony somewhere under that three-story high pile of manure.
What were Swalwell's lies? I understand about the spy, but what untruths did he tell?
I'm glad Chuck is back.
What is the basis — how McCarthy was briefed about Swalwell — for judging him to be unfit to serve on Intel, where Swalwell has served under Speaker John Boehner and Speaker Paul Ryan?
He stated the basis very clearly indeed. The fact that a prior Republican speaker didn't make the same judgment, for some reason, is neither here nor there. (It was in 2015 that the FBI got concerned enough to make defensive briefings to Congress about Fang, and Boehner left the Speaker chair in 2015. Ryan is the one whose judgment was different, and I'd love to know why. Collegiality or some such thing?)
Whoa!
That was powerful.
Gosh, McCarthy spoke all those words in a coherent way and never once fumbled/stumbled over his phrasing or looked like his teeth were coming loose. Good job, Kevin.
that was really good.
Back bone.... just walked in the room.
and the bitchy leftist grrl D-0hack reporter - broken record for the left.
Adam Schitt's lies are of consequence.
Santos merely lied about himself.
Schitt(D) lied to the American people with the kinds of lies that cause massive destruction.
Schitt(D) should be indicted.
Yes, it was a good DEBATE between the "reporter" and McCarthy. I have no idea why McCarthy is talking to reporters about Santos. He did say the least amount possible, but he shouldn't be talking about Santos AT ALL. Whether Santos lied to get elected or not, is simply irrelevant. He got elected, and if the people in the district don't like him, they will vote him out in 2024.
The DC Republicans always seem to love talking to the leftwing MSM and winning their respect. Even though it get them nowhere. With people like Romney and Graham its because they are really Democrats pretending to be Republicans. I don't know about McCarthy.
Adam Schiffhead is a liar. A hate-filled leftist, who abused his position on the intelligence committee. He constanly lied about what was said in his classified briefings, and he went after a reporter to get him banned on twitter. He also leaked classified info ot leftwing reporters. As for the other guy, Sallwell or whatever, he's a chinese spy. Or in love with one.
Chuck, you doth protest too much.
It is a bit much, that is, to accept that you do not know about Swalwell's Chinese spy girlfriend. Perhaps try seeking out NON-MSNBC sources of information if you need to know the actual "basis" for a Republican decision about anything important. As to McCarthy adding to any problem for himself with Republicans, again, likewise come on out of that MSNBC la-la land where wishes are ponies and Democrats ride. McCarthy will likely shore up support and relief among ALL wings of the Republican Party for this move. Taking on a typical diversionary media maneuver (to Santos) will add to his stature and kneecapping two of the worst Democratic demonizers of all Republicans will please the entire party.
all of those so-called hack reporters are liars too.
The so-called hacks in the press all sold the Russian collusion lie. (Re Trump)
They all hid and continue to hide - Biden family international grift and corruption for money.
big money.
all those so-called reporters - dutifully acted as D-party hacks and sold the Inga/Vikki/Gadfly's of the world that Hunter's laptop was "RUSSIAN DISINFORMATION" - and they still swallow that lie whole. Like good lie-swallowing doots.
Lying democrats do not belong on ANY committee, Chuck.
Or are you a hack too?
Well, well, well. That was fun.

Well said, this is how pervasive the back-stabbing of trump was, led by the weasel McConnell. Every time he went up against the GOPe the "we will join in the impeachement" knives came out.
They obviously are FOR OPEN BORDERS and FOR ENDLESS WARS. McConnell, Romney, Ronna "Romney" McDaniel, John Cornyn HAVE to go.
At the time, what was to prevent Republicans on that same committee, with those same briefings, from jumping in after Schiff lied and saying for the cameras: "I was in the same briefings that dickhead was in, and I can tell you straight, he is flat-out lying his *ss off here. I don't recall Nunes covering himself in righteous glory either. Here's a thought: Maybe the Intelligence Community has the each member of the Intelligence Committee, both R and D, by the short and curlies. Everything makes more sense if you think that the tail may be wagging the dog.

It's as clear as your empty head. Swalwell was fatally compromised by his embracing the honey trap" Chinese spy he was sleeping with. Maybe Ryan and Boehner didn't care or were compromised themselves. Thank heaven for the 20 patriots who pushed McCarthy to grow a backbone.
jim5301: "What were Swalwell's lies? I understand about the spy, but what untruths did he tell?"
LOL
Oh, I don't know. How about denying he slept with the ChiCom spy?
Gee, how is it that a little old City Councilman garnered so much interest on the part of the ChiComs, such that Fang Fang shows up and helps lead the way for Swalwell to win a congressional seat?
And then, wonder of wonders, this ChiCom backed congress-critter gets appointed to the Intel committee in just his second term in Congress?
And all this is happening during the times when DiFi has a ChiCom spy chauffeur and the Biden's are cashing in all over China with the Joe/Hunter deals with a top ChiCom spymaster.
Yep, nothing to see there. Time to move on!
And yes, I realize this type of information regarding LLR Chuck's beloved democraticals causes him to curl up in the fetal position while sucking his thumb and binge watching old Rachel Maddow reruns.
MSDNC = LOL

LLR Chuck linking to Aaron Rupar is the LLR Chuck-iest thing a LLR Chuck could do.
I know The Poor Man's LLR Chuck, gadfly, will be pleased as punch to see LLR Chuck back in Russia Russia Russia Collusion form.

LLR Chuck isn't ignorant of this story. He's just a liar like all the other democratical partisans.
Fifteen ballots - Kabuki? Lets McCarthy be the bad guy because he was forced into it.
Lefties are still pissed that George Santos was better at prevaricating than his opponent. [Playing “You’re Breakin’ My Heart” on a tiny violin.]
Drago - He never denied having sex with her. Give me a link.

It is a rebuttable presumption I've adopted regarding everyone in Washington for the last few years.
It is illegal for you (us) to lie to the cops, the courts, the FBI, Congress and just about every level of Government but it's OK for for them to lie to us. Politicians lie all the time without consequence. They all should be subject to the same punishment for lying as we are.
If we had an honest press willing to hold ALL politicians accountable we might have better governance.
are lies/liars committed on floor of congress protected or impeachable?
I love that clip.
He starts off amused and relaxed and then he decides to go with some blunt honesty.
They say anger doesn't play well on TV, but his voice is pretty soft. So it was controlled anger. Highly effective, in my view. That was a great performance.

Yeah. At first he did.
It will be eventually shown that Santos was a stealth Republican run for Congress by the Democrats. Prove me wrong.
I'll worry about Santos when the left worries about Schiff, Swalwell, Biden, Obama Pelosi, the Clintons and all the other pathological liars that have been lying to us for years.

Why should the press have the power to hold politicians "accountable"? The unelected press has never been politically disinterested. Partisanship has always ruled the day throughout American history.
You might consider whether the treatment the media gave Trump as something you would want for all politicians.
Not me. The PEOPLE can hold their elected official accountable for "lies" by voting them out, or recalling them.
Pelosi attended the same FBI briefing on Swalwell as McCarthy. McCarthyism.
I would've liked McCarthy to straight out ask the "Journalist" "Why are you supporting Schiff and Swalwell?" But otherwise I think he was pretty clear and back-boney.
jim5301: "Drago - He never denied having sex with her. Give me a link."
LOL
Swalwell consistently and repeatedly claims he "did nothing wrong".
Sorry, shagging the ChiCom spy is something "wrong".
You and LLR Chuck are going to have to up your democratical gaslighting efforts on this one.
Super Trump is now full Lindsey Graham/Ronna Romney.
Establishment Super Trump!
I'm happy to see Kevin is showing back-bone, but I doubt it has much to do with Trump.
Aggie,
The Republican response was the Nunes memo. Which establishment Republicans claimed was filled with falsehoods and lies.
"Chuck isn't ignorant of this story. He's just a liar..."
That's the kindest interpretation; it assumes good will. I can't go that far.
Sorry, I got that last comment backwards. Will delete both when they show up.
Great fun-go get ‘em Kevin!

Well yes, that's true, and it was a great memo, but it was just a memo, not a soundbite. My question was an honest one: As Schiff played to the cameras and pronounced lie after lie about Trump, what was to stop Republicans from denouncing Schiff as a liar with an informed disclosure as one of the few that were co-briefed? I can't see anything that would involved National Security issues. So, they were all cowards and GOPe hacks, then? The poison that effects our politics is from a lack of honest commentary, instead of narratives. I am baffled that more eager politicians haven't understood the opportunity.
Chuck and Gadfly believe it when a lying leftist democrat says 'I did nothing wrong"
LOL - so Bill Kristol-y.
I really do not understand why people engage trolls like gadfly, Chuck and jim5301. They are probably in the employ of David Brock and are just doing their jobs.
The clip was impressive in the sense that the activist reporter was an obvious hack and McCarthy stated simple facts and opinions. An earlier poster said that he took a page from Ron DeSantis and I agree.

So, you're good with politicians lying to you and the press backing up the lies. Good to know.

I have considered that and I'm all for it. No politician should get special treatment. But we don't have an unbiased press they only go after the ones with an (r) designation after their name.
I'll worry about Santos when the left worries about Schiff, Swalwell, Biden, Obama Pelosi, the Clintons and all the other pathological liars that have been lying to us for years.
That's why I detest partisans. You should have the capacity to worry about all fraud, corruption, and general incompetence. I'm really sick of watching partidan circle the wagons to protect their own party's dirtbags.
Drago said that Swalwell "denied he slept with the ChiCom spy?" When I asked him for a cite, he said that Swalwell "claimed that he did nothing wrong." Not quite the same thing unless you beliueve that sleeping with someone is always wrong.
Why was it wrong to sleep with her if he had no idea she was a spy? And what is the evidence that he knew or had reason to suspect she was a spy? My guess is that she was a pretty good spy and didn't blurt it out right before orgasm.
I posted the Aaron Rupar Tweet because he had neatly clipped the MSNBC segment with Eric Swalwell's own statement addressing McCarthy's action.
In a story all about Eric Swalwell, no one before me on this comments page had supplied Swalwell's own directly-on-point comments.
So that is what I did.
And here is another link; Washington Post Glenn Kessler addressing the allegations (such as they may be) against Swalwell and Schiff:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/01/18/mccarthys-specious-attacks-adam-schiff-eric-swalwell/
Now I realize that for many of you, you cannot even get past "@atrupar," or "MSNBC," or "washingtonpost.com" to look at the substance of any story. Just look, at the number of comments here that personally attack me, or Rupar, or MSNBC and which make no mention of the substance of facts in the story. Now you can add WaPo to the mix.
Now, I certainly do understand that my linking to any of the foregoing is going to trigger the Trumpkins here. I understand that, and I do not care. Actually, that is not quite true. In truth, I understand that aspect of triggering, and I like it. It set me up for this comment.
was it wrong to sleep with her if he had no idea she was a spy?
I'm picturing Swalwell channeling George Constanza. "I'm sorry. Was the wrong? Was sleeping with that spy wrong? Because I didn't see anything like that in the rules"
LLR Chuck decides its time to bring the hilariously exposed partisan lefty Glenn Kessler into the mix because of course he does.
Sorry Chuckie, your fellow democraticals have no substantive commentary to offer as they are merely democratical party stenographers...as are you.
The jig is up G&T boy. Time to break out another pitcher or two to get you through the pain of having 2 of your completely corrupted heroes properly removed from the intel committee.
God speed laddie.

That is so perfectly democratical/LLR Chuck-y that I'm going to leave it just like that.
No further commentary necessary.

One of many here, apparently.
I must admit I am a bit surprised that LLR Chuck has the time to offer up increasingly outlandish and moronic defenses of his beloved democraticals given my assumption that he would be spending time protesting against republican Supreme Court Justices and in particular Clarence Thomas, whom LLR Chuck has attacked viciously, and to be honest quite racistly, in the not too distant past.

Common lefty diversion technique. Chuck already did the research and it came up with info he didn't like. So he asks for cites and then argues the credibility of any quoted cites.
