"Will and Kate came over and I met her for the first time, for dinner, I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was barefoot."

"Like, I was a hugger. I’ve always been a hugger. I didn’t realize that is really jarring for a lot of Brits."

From "Harry and Meghan series, likely to anger British royals, drops on Netflix" (WaPo).

That quote is at the end of the article, which has just 2 more lines:

She described how the royals’ “formality on the outside carried on to the inside.”

This is a developing story.

It's breaking news? Presumably there will be updates. About what, you wonder? About other things to be found in this 6-part Netflix documentary that just — as they say — "dropped."

ADDED: I don't believe for one minute that an American-based "hugger" doesn't understand that not everyone accepts being hugged on first meeting. It may be more disturbing for some "Brits," but she well knew that Kate and William weren't just random Brits. They are people who expect special deference. It you want to deny them that, that's your business, but don't expect us to believe you just didn't know, you're just brimming with hugginess, and that's American. Maybe that plays more believably to Brits, who might think we Americans are mindlessly casual. Maybe we are, but we're not ignoramuses.

Princess Gold Digger Fame whore knew exactly what she was doing. Read REVENGE, by Tom Bower. She was always a conniving little bitch. She dumped her own family, the father who raised her, whilst her black mother was a drug using hippie. Now, because she is using RACE to blame on everything, her black mother is the only family she speaks to. She is the TYPICAL Progressive. I can't wait until King Charles takes away their titles. She will be screaming about how RACIST that is soon. Harry is a dope. He doesn't even see that she is using him, and will dump him soon enough. Pussy whipped.

Ah, but counterpoint -- suppose we're talking about a vapid ignoramus here. Would that also be consistent with the evidence? I think it's quite possible she's just a pretty face and nothing more (for both good and ill).

1. Some people have a different and nuanced inner life and some don't. Reagan was reputed to be what he was on the surface, and nothing more. He was an actor (e.g., empty vessel for fictional characters) before he was President. Everyone reported that Queen Elizabeth II was pretty much identical in all contexts -- raised to be the queen and spending 24/7 in that role embeds a certain sameness.

2. Meghan is also a professional actor...empty vessel in search of fame and power and glory and adoration. Harry is the dead-end second son of the prior royal generation. Prince William had his sons so Harry literally has no further value in royal succession. (In centuries past, competitors for a throne were often killed or forcibly exiled.) He's got to find something to talk about and some way to earn a living. So, Netflix chit-chat is better than nothing. Fill the time, get decent ratings, get paid, repeat. Maybe we should offer Harry and Meghan a parade and throw rose petals before them. They'd feel accepted and special that way. Forget the non-royal everyone else who receive no attention, own nothing, and "are happy" per old Klaus Schwab.

In ages past the sidelined prince schemed how he could kill his rivals and take over. Rarely did it bring long term success, but rather it brought destruction.

Cain killed the first heir to the throne after all.

So we shouldn't be surprised in a modern age, where killing the heir isn't viable that the destruction of the throne itself becomes the goal. If Harry can't have it. He'll undermine and destroy it.

Jefferson's Revenge म्हणाले...

My wife is guilty of royalty fondling not just hugging. She is half Brit and engrossed in all things royal. We had an opportunity to meet Prince Edward a few years ago. We got all of the protocol instructions- basically no touching stuff. He was mingling in a room of about 50 people. We despaired of meeting him because it was a battle scene to get near him and we are very quiet people.

We were on the verge of giving up when, lo and behold, I turned around and he is alone right behind me. My innate and until then repressed internal royalty must have sprung into action. “Good evening sir” I said. “Let me introduce my wife. Her father was in the merchant marine during the war and met your mother”. My wife turned around, her glasses fogged up and she was gobsmacked and speechless. The next thing I see is her rubbing his shoulder rather forcefully as if he was a friend and he, in response, he had this look of horror on his face and his security guy comes over to extricate him from this maniacal American woman.

I think she is now in an MI5 list. I promised her I would never mention this story to anyone so don’t tell her I told you.

I wonder if Meghan tried hugging the Queen. Or Prince Andrew?

Indiscriminate huggers are usually bullies, in my experience, the physical touching without permission or any indication of a willingness can make it even more likely to occur, as a way to establish control and make the huggee uncomfortable.

Meghan is the American version of Sarah Ferguson. The Royal Family has survived her, I don't think it's going to crumble because of anything Meghan and Harry say.

Aren't the Kardashians quite popular? And Americans have long had a soft spot for the British monarchy. An American adventuress Becky Sharping her way into the royal family sounds like good, farcical entertainment. There's lots of reasons why, at least on paper, this would seem like a pretty good bet. The extrinsic drama of Harry quite possibly blowing up his relationships with all his closest family members over a bit of tattle for cash also adds some tabloid appeal.

Supposedly there is a segment where Markle relates that she did not realize she would be expected to curtsy upon her first meeting with the queen until the moment was nearly upon her. Sure, curtsying may seem a bit odd to an American, but if I were meeting my future in-laws for the first time and there was something substantially different between their background/culture and mine, I'd damn well give a little thought to learn about their expectations and about how to make a good impression before showing up on their doorstep.

There is another segment where she said that before going to the UK, "most people didn't treat [her] like a black woman." To be honest, I had seen her in Suits and obviously in the press, and I had no idea that she was a black woman until she started accusing people of racism.

Meghan seems to be all about drama, so she says and does anything to appear as a naive victim. Being a hugger isn't a congenital condition that occasionally creates social confusion.

Meghan doesn't seem particularly warm, so I doubt she's even a hugger, but she damn well knows that there is a time and place for hugging. Deciding to hug prominent foreigners, who may become in-laws, upon a first meeting, was an aggressive act.

William म्हणाले...

William and Kate are reliably dull. King Charles is mildly irritating, and his romance with Camilla is not stuff of legends. These guys don't provide much mulch for the screenwriters. Meghan & Harry though are genuinely annoying. Viewed in real time, they are not much fun to watch, but some talented screenwriters might make something of their travails. Princess Diane was the star of the previous generation of royals. Maybe Meghan & Harry will be stars of this generation. There's more drama in a mess than in a floral arrangement.....Nowadays that Nazi sympathizing King and his divorcee wife are out of favor, but, at the time, it was considered a great romantic story.

In the recent book Courtiers, the self-named "Sussex Survivors Squad," people who worked for them, told the author they believed that from the beginning, she intentionally piled up grievances for her planned exit. She's deliberately taking Diana's path of victimhood, just like she sometimes wears similar clothes.
I can't believe the amount of time I've wasted on her antics, but it's interesting comparing her narcissism disorder to my late step-monster's. Harry's going to end up like my father, broke and broken.

I started watching it and my first impression is that these two are boring as fvck. Seriously, not even their status as "celebrities" can disguise that we're dealing with very, very shallow puddles of personality,

I found it strange that Meghan and her supporters refer to Harry quite a bit as "H" or simply "him." Very de-personalized. He really has become a prop in her world - and this documentary is ALL about Meghan, make no mistake.

And . . . is Harry okay? I had never heard him speak candidly but he just came across to me as a sort of simpleton in mannerisms and facial expressions, what I felt was not at the level of maturity I would expect from someone nearly 40 years old. How "minded" was he during his time in the military?

Nicholas म्हणाले...

@Sally327 - "Meghan is the American version of Sarah Ferguson".

I think she's much, much worse. Sarah Ferguson was (as we say in English English) a jolly hockey sticks sort of gal, a rather gauche ingenue, who could not quite believe she was to become the Queen's daughter in law, but she was never malevolent. MeGain is however something else altogether. You don't have to be an expert on Royal lineage to realise that if you are marrying the second son of the heir to the throne, you are always going to be a level below the heir and his first son, but so what? There is no justification whatsoever for flouncing off and becoming a full time grievance monger. Sarah Ferguson split from Prince Andrew, and had some resentments against Palace courtiers who let it be known that they sought she was vulgar, but she never amped it up as we are seeing now.
