On the one with "No Lifeguard on Duty" sign, there must be a greater-than-zero chance of falling through.

Back when James Taranto ran "Best of the Web" for the Wall Street Journal, he featured a Most Boring Headline of the Day. The winner usually had something to do with Canada.

The wide door porta potty was designed by a laid-off airline designer ;)

Two old boys are using an outhouse. When one finishes his business he stands and buttons up his overalls. Changes falls out of his pocket. HeReaches into his pocket and drops a twenty dollar bill down the hole. Why in the hell did you do that? Not going down there for fifty cents.

That San Francisco public urinal cost the city a billion dollars.

Usually, the only people interested in "memorable public toilets" are those who have found other uses for the facilities.

When I heard about San Francisco's famous public toilets I didn't picture something so low tech and spartan. A simple Portapotty would have served as well and also provided privacy. But maybe privacy is what public urinators don't want. Maybe the "public" is more the point than the "urination."

I haven't seen Fellows' new show, but Downton Abbey was okay. Reading the parody and the interview with its author makes me think that she is as parodyworthy as anything Fellows has come up with.

If I was making this list, the last picture would be that of a single, uncovered bucket.

For comparison, rest area facilities along US interstates would be about as interesting. CA rest areas - even the newer ones like Valley Wells between Barstow and the NV line - are nearly all vandalized to the point that about half of the toilets are not functional or physically damaged. AZ has nice, newer facilities with interesting designs.NM has maybe two rest areas between Raton (I-35) and Gallup (I-40), and only one is open as of our last drive through in October. Ohio gets the prize for best facilities, NY a close second.

Don't get me started on facilities in state parks...

Who needs a formal facility? When my daughter hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, a recurring feature of her communications with us was "Scenic Places to Poo." Her and the bears, out in the woods.

It's at Dolores Park, summertime's tanning salon for the Castro set.
Nothing's too good for them.
