Dave Chappelle hosted "SNL" last night. Here's the monologue.

There's a lot of talk about Kanye West. Chappelle takes a cagey position, neither attacking him nor supporting him: "I don't think Kanye is crazy.... He's possibly not well."

Then there's a long pause and an extended run-up to a big leap: "I've been to Hollywood." Pause. "I don't want y'all to get mad at me. I'm just telling you. I've been to Hollywood. This is just what I saw." Pause. "It's a lot of Jews." Pause. "Like a lot."

"But that doesn't mean anything." That's a setup. Punchline: "There's a lot of black people in Ferguson, Missouri. That doesn't mean they run the place."

It's not a crazy thing to think: "The Jews run show business." Pause. "But it's a crazy thing to say out loud." He said out loud.

And that was the end of the Kanye and anti-Semitism portion of the monologue, very carefully written and delivered. That was halfway point, and he paused after saying the "crazy thing" out loud, and started talking about the midterm elections. Hershel Walker: "I don't want to speak bad of him — because he's black, but, um" — pause — "He's observably stupid."

Chappelle hears people saying the Trump Era is over, but he needs to explain something that he knows, because he lives in Ohio, "amongst the poor whites." Trump is loved. And the reason he is loved is because people have never seen anything like him: "an honest liar."

An honest liar is an interesting and defendable assessment. It fits in with the serious/literal observation about Trump's supporters/critics. There are some smart people saying this is like the post-Jan 6 period, where the people eager to write Trump off were making a mistake about where the electorate is. Maybe/maybe not. Just because that was the case last time doesn't mean it's the case this time.

Chappelle's observation about Jews in Hollywood/blacks in Missouri doesn't bear too much scrutiny, but superficially, it's a great analogy and a way out of the problem of talking about the concentration of Jews in entertainment. Bring it up while denying you're bringing it up. You don't have to say the difference between blacks in the South and Jews in Hollywood--everybody already knows it.

He is hilarious. But the elephant in the room is the accepted, yet not talked about anti-Semitism in the Black community. It is the regular generational, propped up and passed down, anti-Semitism that is nurtured in that community. It's not new. It's just been given doses of Miracle-Gro over the last 10 years or so. Supported heavily by what is allowed to fester on college campuses where anti-Semitism is all the rage these days.

Nothing to worry about. Carry on. This is just how things always go. Da Jews are always the target on which so many can come together.

As for Hollywood. Jews got into entertainment early on in this country. They weren't allowed to work everywhere. But those will talent changed their names and made their way in Hollywood. They worked Hollywood, grew it, and populated it at many levels. But it's not exclusive. And it's still open to anyone who can make it. Don't like it? Get in there and work it, move up the ladder, buy a studio. Speaking of, there have been millions earned by people like Chappelle and Ye and so many others. It just doesn't seem like they're being kicked around. Show biz is what it has always been- with or without Jews. It's a tough business. A lot of people try to make it. Few do. And some of those who do, piss off their bosses.

Imagine getting smacked down in your work for pissing off those who own the company you work for or work with? Happens to everyone. Everywhere.

But the Jews. Can't help it if we're funny and good at writing. And that's how the Hollywood thing began.

And these people don’t post on these boards or really like politics at all.

But they realize that they weren’t represented and they have been more and more insistent and less polite as time goes. It has been a steady progression.

They are more aligned with Bernie than people are e ready for and the Democrats are also alienating their base with their warmongering right now. Neither party is interested in even appearing to value honest elections.

The regime is made up of Democrats and republicans. The only people poor white people hate more than the Democrats are the republicans and the next realignment will see these people join with the Bernie wing of the Democrat party in a much less polite manner as the GOPe and the Democrats work together to send their jobs to China and send their money to Ukraine. The open borders thing is also an issue.

"an empire of their own: how the jews invented Hollywood" is a pretty good book.

It is not only about how they invented Hollywood, but about why they invented Hollywood.

Short answer, because of religious prejudice they were locked out of many occupations in the early 1900s. Movies/entertainment looked like a good opportunity.

Why Hollywood? Because the industry at that time was centered in Queen's, they were not welcome and California was as far away as they could get.

Much more complex than that, of course. But that's the nut.

Fact: Jews run Hollywood and the record companies, and if you get labeled "anti-semitic" you get cancelled.

One of the most powerful Hollywood Jewish execs, Rob emanuel's brother bragged in the Financial Times that he got Mel Gibson "cancelled" but then let him back in and started making movies when he apoligized to the Jewish community and made amends.

If you're old enough, you can remember Brando, one of the biggest Philo-semites, getting in trouble in the 1990s for saying Jews ran hollywood. He was praising Jews on Larry King, saying they were greatest people ever, but then criticized them for allowing Native americans to be cast in a bad light in old westerns. Brando issued a tearful apology in record time.

Amazed that Chappelle has gotten away with it. So far.

His take down of Herschel Walker, however, is straight up critical and disparaging. That more than his opening statement buys him forgiveness. I remember Brando's criticism of Hollywood Jews. He said that Hollywood presented demeaning stereotypes of just about every ethnicity except Jews. There's some merit to that observation, but it should be noted that except for Indians and--during WWII--Germans and Japanese, the stereotypes were more demeaning than hateful. As stereotypes go, they weren't particularly hateful, but the Jews were spared... One notes that during the early part of the twentieth century there was an elaborate, wide reaching conspiracy on the part of wealthy Anglo-Saxons to control a large part of the world's land and resources and, for the most part, Hollywood portrayed these conspirators in a sympathetic and even flattering manner.

mccullough म्हणाले...

What I take from Chappelle (and others) is that in general Hollywood is run by awful people. (Just like Wall Street). And these people are disproportionately of Jewish ethnicity (no one’s talking about their religious views and practices which run the spectrum of Judaism within the group).

The vast majority of Jewish Americans are good people (just like the vast majority of Americans). As a group, Jewish Americans are smart and hard working and financial successful. (They are about 2% of the US population, which is a bit over 6 million),

So Chapelle has raised the issue: Is there anything about Jewish American culture that can shed light on why two of the worst parts of our culture (Hollywood & Wall Street) are heavily Jewish.

There is no answer to this issue. But why can’t we discuss it. Why is Anti-Semitic just to discuss it.

Half of the violent crime in the US is committed by blacks in poor urban areas. Blacks are 13% of US population (about 45 million people). Though violent crime is an issue, the vast majority of blacks aren’t violent. But we can discuss the issue of violent crime without being called Racists (or used to be able to). Why is it we can discuss that or could discuss it.

And if we can’t discuss these issues without naming and shaming, we are fucked.

Open your mind. Have some sympathy for others and yourself.

No we actually can not discuss that the violent crime in this country is disproportionately committed by Blacks, or that the majority of homocides are committed by Blacks against Blacks but even if it is mentioned we must proclaim that has nothing to do something in Black culture but is somehow the result of racism and slavery.

"So Chapelle has raised the issue: Is there anything about Jewish American culture that can shed light on why two of the worst parts of our culture (Hollywood & Wall Street) are heavily Jewish."

What a thing to say. How to demonstrate anti-semitism without being anti-semitic?

How about drug abuse, alcoholism, domestic abuse, rape, incest and violent crime and is there anything about Christian American culture that can shed light on those worst parts of our culture?

How about advances in medicine and science and the arts and philanthropy and is there anything about Jewish American culture that can shed a light on those positive parts of our culture, or why those aspects of society and the contributions heavily represented by Jews don't seem to actually count as important? Because of rampant endemic anti-semitism? That just amazes me and on some level shocks and disgusts me.

If Hollywood and Wall Street were heavily Italian American, as the Mafia was, could we discuss if there something in Italian-American culture that might tend to offer an insight?

The vast majority of Italian Americans were hard working and poor at the time. And certainly there were other members from immigrant groups that were into organized crime (Irish and Jewish among them). For whatever reason, there weren’t many members of German Americans involved in organized crime.

The Mafia dominated organized crime from the 1920s to the 1980s

Hollywood made shitloads off these stories. The Godfather is an all time great American film.

Was Hollywood anti-Italian American?

Is Hollywood anti-black? How were blacks generally depicted in films before Spike Lee started making movies?

Why was the N-Word used so often (and gratuitously) in Pulp Fiction (which is a good film)?

Telling people shut up you Anti-Semite isn’t working. Would we be better off discussing issues or squelching them?

Because squelching them isn’t working. Kanye West is a billionaire who has made outstanding popular music. (He’s got 50 million monthly Spotify listeners). Chapelle is incredibly insightful and influential.

You think these guys are going to go away?

Let’s be honest. Trump is the only prominent white guy in the US who has stood up to Woke Inc.

His supporters (and others) love it. But most whites cave to Woke Inc. (if they can’t cash in on it).

Trump is getting flushed down the toilet he jumped in with both feet.

So who is going to stand up for what you believe? Who is going to be courageous or insane enough to at least raise the issues?

The same people who are trying to cancel Kanye & Chapelle are trying to cancel you.

mccullough म्हणाले...

Perhaps the answer is that Jewish-Americans, just like any racial/ethnic group, have its share of socio-paths. As an accident of history, these socio-pathic Jewish-Americans ended up with some significant control in Hollywood and Wall Street. Other socio-paths ended up with significant control in Silicon Valley and Big Business and Big University and Big Government.

Unlike our mafiosos and black gang bangers, the Hollywood/Wall Street/Silicon Valley/Big Business/Big University/Big University sociopaths didn’t grow up poor.

Poverty might explain some sociopathology but it’s a partial explanation.

The white ethnicities (German/Irish/Italian/etc) don’t really exist anymore. Even the WASPs are pretty much gone.

There are only two prominent white ethnicities left these days. The Appalachians (Scots-Irish) and Jewish Americans.

And then there are Black-Americans.

Mexican Americans are the largest ethnic/racial group. They are approaching Black Americans in number. They are 60% of Latinos. But we (Blacks and Whites) tend to lump all Latinos together and don’t discuss much Mexican Americans or Puerto Ricans or Cubans outside of elections. Otherwise they are Latinos. Asian-Americans is even more confounding of a term. Chinese-Americans and Indian-Americans make up the lion’s share of Asian-Americans. A greater share of Asian-Americans than German-Americans and Irish-Americans were of White Americans.

Part of the tradition of integrating/assimilating ethnic/racial groups in the US is to identify and celebrate the Success Stories and downplay the Bad.
