I understand that Stacey Abrams is so “confident” of her victory in the Georgia Governor’s race that she has been house shopping in California.

After Sunday evening’s final debate where she accused all Georgia Sheriffs of being racial bigots, I bet she’s ready to relocate. Besides, she’ll make money working for MSNBC and shaking down corporations for diversity claims.

I bailed out fast out of Top Gun Maverick just like the original Top Gun. Cruise is great in Live Die Repeat with more or less the same insouciance but it's not the point of the movie there. It think that's the trouble here.

I'm told you have to be gay to like the original.

The clip may be everyone's favorite music video and the song may be everyone's favorite Eighties one hit wonder, and the band is surely everyone's favorite Norwegian rock group, but The A-ha Movie, a recent documentary, is one long, tough slog. You can love a three minute song or video but for a hundred minute rocdoc to be interesting there have to be bad behavior, scandal, recklessness, and probably tragedy. The documentary includes animations in the style of the famous video and that's a plus, but well-behaved Scandinavian boys rarely make good cinema. Even Abba had the good sense to get into a few feuds and quarrels.

I know I've remarked on this in earlier posts, but now as we get close to the election, the Economist/Yougov poll for Oct 22-25 shows the Democrats ahead in the generic ballot by 4 points. And their party breakdown is: Dem 38% (573 people polled), Rep 27% (398 people polled), Ind 35% (527).

My belief is that this oversamples Democrats and under samples Rep (something like 1/3 each is what I would look for). Therefore, I expect the actual results to be more toward R than one would think based on this D + 4 poll 10 days before the election.

Anyway, right or wrong, here's a publicly posted opinion on Oct 31. (Happy Halloween.)

Tucker Carlson said it best. The Pelosi incident happened because California Dems allowed a mentally ill, homeless, illegal alien, drug addict (who might be a convicted felon), to roam the streets of San Francisco.

Door to door trick or treat appears to be a dying tradition. In the last 10 years since we moved to a small rural town, the number of visitors that come to our well decorated house has declined 90 percent. Does not appear to be a consequence of fewer children. More that the competition from events downtown put on by merchants and various churches and other institutions have been preferred. Not certain whether it is the preference of the kids or the parents. More likely the later, but maybe the kids can get the same amount of candy with fewer steps. Or just hang out in larger groups.

Maybe tomorrow, when I have to take the pooch in for a bath and nail trim, also earlier than I am about, normally.

I see that The Atlantic thinks we should let bygones be bygones with respect to the insane, over-reacting, COVID-19 policies pushed upon us by bureaucrats (emphatically not real scientists) in the federal government, not to mention the teachers's unions.

Ah, that would be a loud "no."

Norm is talking to his sidekick about how tough it's been (for his sidekick) since he's stopped drinking and then he says... "well were not going to go thru everything... because of the son of Sam law". Wait, what?

I google it: A Son of Sam law (also known as a notoriety-for-profit law) is an American English term for any law designed to keep criminals from profiting from the publicity of their crimes, for instance by selling their stories to publishers.

LOL

Speaking of saying stuff you're not supposed to say and doing gags you're not supposed to do.

I miss Norm.

Maybe there ought to be a Son of Sam law for people with some notoriety (famous people) who announce to people they have cancer.

For about twelve hours on Twitter my engagement went way up, as did my impressions, then this morning it went back to “is this thing on” mode. During that time I picked up a few followers and got likes and retweets from a couple big accounts. I will be curious to see how this all plays out. But right this minute Twitter is interesting as hell.

Again, the latest from Tucker is about demanding impunity for sowing political violence.

Actually, his argument is concise. If the far right is not allowed to sow political violence with impunity and if his kind can no longer spread propaganda for Russia, Democrats won't be able to hold power.

Note that Tucker alludes to the Alex Jones judgment as if it was deemed "stochastic" terrorism rather than legal defamation which Jones did not contest.

Let me second your emphatic "no". Some of these hambones remain entrenched with their views (read: Gretchen Whitmer D-Tyrant). And the bureaucrats, on the payroll of Pfizer, continue to play the game by pushing the vaxx on children.

Not in my neighborhood. I typically have about 250 pieces of candy on hand and it's gone by 8. I often give out more than 1 piece--especially to the really little kids, so we get about 125-150 trick or treaters before we blow out the candles and shut off the music. Last night's rain didn't change that.

Being a farmer, the threat of a shortage of diesel fuel is scary.
I showed the clip of Trump telling German delegates not to put all of their energy eggs in Russia’s supply basket to a fellow farmer &friend…

Says friend: Trump loves Russia, praises and admires Putin- he’s Russia’s best friend.
I reply: never underestimate the competence of your enemy.

Does his take on Trump sound like every other antiTrump advocate?
He never even “listened” to Trump- saw his visage and went deaf.

Re: Affirmative Action. Many years ago my son graduated with honors from PSU (BS, MS Engineering). His professors wanted him to stay for his Ph'd. In fact, they lobbied me at his graduation. He declined. After a few years of working for a Fortune 100 company, he decides to apply for admission to Wharton. Takes the GMAT and scores in the top 1%. Nope, not good enough. Now maybe there hundreds who had better credentials. I'm skeptical though.

Why can’t we change preferential college admissions from race to class? Points for being first in your family to go to college, points for lower income families, points for one parent children, etc.

There would be general support for such a program and it would accomplish the same thing. The kids who need help would get help.

That will still result in academically lesser-qualified students getting preferential treatment over academically better-qualified. And that results in significantly higher dropout percentages.

So, how long, before it's socially acceptable to deny elections again? One Week? One Day? NOW??
Reid claims ‘insidious’ GOP conspiracy is releasing ‘junk polls’ to create narrative of a ‘red wave’

"If you get past those headlines and dig a little deeper, you would uncover an insidious and seemingly intentional campaign from Republican-backed polling firms to flood the zone and tip the balance of polling averages in favor of their candidates, to create a narrative that Republicans are surging and that a red wave is imminent and inevitable," Reid said.

They’re trying to suppress Democratic term out, create more negative sentiment for Democrats and more positive sentiment for them. What I think is disappointing, many of the people who do the analysis on elections, should’ve caught this. This is an unprecedented massive campaign by the Republicans too gain the polling average.

our granddaughter graduated from a good midwestern university last year, She wants to go to medical school. She was in the top 1% of those who took the MCAT. She graduated Summa cum Laude, and was initiated into Phi Beta Kappa. She was the head science tutor her senior year, so she was responsible for all the science tutors. She had 2 semesters of school waived due to her AP high school classes, so she took extra courses in the medical area and then added an accounting and a neurology minor to her biology major. She applied to 20 medical schools.

She was not accepted. (she did had a B in freshman english.)

I hope she applied to more than one school. Admissions committees are weird. One of my surgery partners was Cuban, a refugee. He applied to Cal's medical school and had not heard anything in months. Finally, he drove to SF and met the staff in the admissions office. He was told his application was in "The Hispanic committee." He asked if he could just be considered "white?" They did so and he was accepted two weeks later. That, of course, was 40 years ago.

Medical research led by PA GOP Senate nominee Dr. Mehmet Oz resulted in the deaths of 31 pigs, 661 rabbits and rodents, and 329 dogs, including an entire litter of puppies—as well as horrific torture before their deaths. Oz’s team at Columbia University published 75 studies between 1989 and 2010 that relied on data from experiments on 1,027 live animal subjects. Oz was the principal investigator in those studies, and so he was "calling the shots" on the animal kills.

WaPo just reported that Oz called his former supervisor — Columbia’s chief of cardiac surgery, Eric Rose — about three weeks ago, and asked him to publicly state that Oz really wasn’t responsible for the alleged mistreatment of animals. Rose declined to do so, telling The Post it felt like the candidate was asking for a political favor.

No.
He took the advice of that Beagle torturer (and worse) and stuck multiple rounds of experimental jabs into his ass.
Maybe being a live research subject himself raises his concerns.
