[In his] subscription-model blog... he vented rage over Covid-19 precautions and espoused beliefs shared by the conspiracist QAnon movement. The page also includes dedicated sections for Holocaust denial, climate change denial, transphobia, racism, misogyny, voter fraud conspiracy theories, Second Amendment absolutism, screeds against groomers and “pedos,” and trashing actress Amber Heard, the ex-wife of Johnny Depp....
In an Aug. 23 post on his personal blog, DePape wrote, “How did I get into all this. Gamer gate it was gamer gate.”
Gamergate was an online misogynist harassment campaign that stretched across 2014 and 2015. It originated as a backlash to feminism and women in the video game industry...
DePape’s digital trail extends [back] beyond Gamergate. In 2007 and 2008, he was spamming Reddit with links to an earlier blog, “The Loving God.” The last link he shared on Reddit directed to a post on the subject of “Human Sacrifice,” which he wrote is “more common than you think.”
“Other than Satanism I know of at least one Major religion with millions of devout followers around the world. That believes in the power of human sacrifice,” he claimed, going on to allude to the Christian rite of the Eucharist, or Holy Communion. “This evil religion is so common you probably have heard of it. You may even practice it,” he concluded....
Note that Pelosi is Catholic.
DePape continued blogging sporadically in the years that followed, asking philosophical questions like, “What if you woke up and realized your whole life had been a dream?” But the same blog, purportedly focused on the subjects of “Science and spirituality,” also veered into darker territory. In a 2017 post on “Materialism,” Depape wrote, “You are just a piece of meat,” and that “Love and caring are a chemical DELUSION.” He then included several photos of piles of dead bodies in Nazi concentration camps, captioning them “Hail Dehumanization,” “Hail Racial Supremacy” and “Hail Survival of the Fitest.”
Is good spelling an aspect of fitness?
While Depape’s internet output was inconsistent over the years, he became extremely prolific on his current blog in late August, initially posting several times a day....
[T]hroughout 2021 used his Facebook page to share videos in which MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell falsely claimed that the 2020 election had been stolen, as well as transphobic memes and links to anti-vaccination websites. Also on Facebook, he promoted the idea that the congressional investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection was a sham... and... that George Floyd died of a drug overdose... [and] that shadowy elites are using the Covid-19 to drastically reshape society as we know it....
When this story first broke, I wondered whether it would fit "the GOP narrative — we're in a horrific crime wave — or the Democratic narrative — domestic terrorism." At this point, it seems to be the latter.
Gamergate...
ADDED: Writing this post, I thought of Gamergate as an old hobbyhorse, but publishing this and clicking on the tag, I see I've had 3 other posts this year with the Gamergate tag. I'll have to give this more thought.
It's interesting to see that back when Gamergate took place, in 2014, I only had one post with that tag, and it said: "This interests me even though it's partly about 'Gamergate,' the controversy that I refuse to get up to speed on."

Nothing to see here...........
Nudism is a threat to trans people too.
Um, seems to be a bit more to the story, check out Instapundit for some strange details coming to light.
I’m going to go with the drugged out, homeless, mentally ill guy narrative.
At this point, it seems to be the latter.
"This point" being right after reading a Rolling Stone article published for the purpose of bolstering the Democratic narrative.
I see RS is trying very, very hard to simultaneously pin this on Republicans while squelching any reasonable questions regarding what the hell happened in Nancy Pelosi's house. There is no more of a QAnon movement than there is a John Titor movement.
I wondered whether it would fit
You spelled 'be hammered into a narrative' wrong.
igna? gadfly? can we All Agree?
that IF this guy had attacked Rand Paul instead of Mr Pelosi; it would have been celebrated on the left?

WATCH: MSNBC Host Says Attack On Rand Paul Is Her ‘Favorite’ Story, Spreads Fake News On Motive
Does anyone in San Francisco even notice someone walking the streets of a wealthy neighbor hood dressed only in his underwear and carrying a hammer? Or is that considered normal?
And why was the broken glass OUTSIDE the Pelosi door if someone on the outside was breaking the glass in order to gain entrance?
--San Francisco 911. You say there's a man in his underwear standing in your living room and holding a hammer? And he's asking for Nancy? Oh, OK -- we'll get a unit their right away.
While we're at it, talking categories like Holocaust denial, climate change denial, transphobia, GOP narrative, Democratic narrative, etc., I wonder how much of DePape's blog was dedicated to writing about himself and his relationship with his own blog.
Johnny Depp is suing Rolling Stones for defamation, but hey, let’s believe what their narrative.
According to reports both men were in their underwear when the police arrived. There are many different scenarios that have nothing to do with politics.
Unless you're really into video games, gamergate was a big nothing. Even if you're into video games, it still seems like it was a big nothing.
We're finding out that conspiracy theories are often true. This is a reminder, though, that nuttier conspiracy theories get taken up by people who are already unstable. Anybody who hears voices telling him what to do isn't reliably rightwing or leftwing, but if the early accounts are right, the assailant does seem to have picked up a lot of ideas on the internet about Communists and feminists and pedophiles in government. So, yes, there may be more involved in this than we now know, but this will be used by the regime to crack down, and if what's come out is true, it does cut a little too close to some on the internet.
Trump ordered him to do it. Not directly, of course.
Trump paid FoxNews to transmit subliminal messages to DePape, instructing him to set up a GRINDR date, seduce Pelosi into stripping with him to his underpants in anticipation of a good butt fucking and then attack him.
You see, it was all Trump’s doing, and that’s why he needs to be censored off all media, indicted for something or other and prohibited from ever running for public office again.
In fact, if you look at it logically, Trump was really the guy who whacked Pelosi with a hammer.
Given my past experiences with California's and San Francisco's street people ... the guy is just insane. It's not a surprise as California turned a blind eye toward mental illness dating back to its 1970s push for a "Prisoner's Bill of Rights." So, there are plenty of street preachers, cultists, homeless campers, and zealous activists in the urban areas. Not news in California for 50 years.
The mentally ill latch on to anything publicized by the media -- consider Hinkley and Jodie Foster and Ronald Reagan. It's not political per se nor terrorism per se, as their brains simply don't get that far. [Also compare to fixations on body modification, to include furries, transgender, extreme plastic surgery, etc.] Attacks are just stimulus -> response for people with cognitive issues.
Also, to head off the MANY errors about this guy supporting Castro, the Castro is a neighborhood in San Francisco. It's the main/oldest gay neighborhood in the city.

With respect, Professor, I fear that you will “understand” Gamergste from a feminist perspective, which means you won’t understand it at all.
It sounds to me like someone who had a tenuous grasp on reality and was just picking up whatever was out there.
But...you can't really trust Rolling Stone on it's evaluation of conspiracy theories. Views that are shared with QAnon could be a lot of things. A few weeks ago, many mainstream outlets, including the NYT, posted a picture of people raising their hands at a Trump rally with a finger raised like "Number 1" and they said it was a QAnon handling (which QAnon experts said it was not). And "Gamergate" means anything considered misogynistic. It has almost no real meaning.
Being anti-Christian shows me he's pretty much anti-everything.
And this tells me a lot about Rolling Stone : "hat George Floyd died of a drug overdose... [and] that shadowy elites are using the Covid-19 to drastically reshape society as we know it.."
I mena, if those are crazy conspiracies......maybe I'm having a break with reality too.
These are but wild and whirling words.
This man is crazy. Would you seek insight in a hurricane? Why is it hard to accept that crazy is without meaning? His thoughts and actions are meaningless. He should have been in an institution.
Sheesh.
Okay, he is a nut. But how did he get into the Speaker’s house?
This guy sounds like a combination of Drago, Achilles, Shouting Thomas and numerous other commenters. These themes are ones we’ve heard repeatedly here in the comments sections. He could’ve been a commenting here and easily fit in with the majority, sorry (not sorry) to say.
wow - this guy checks all the boxes. and right be fore an election, too.
If you've got evidence that DePape is actually on the left, please present it... as specifically as you can.
I'm reading these comments, and they seem like wishful thinking: He *could* still be on the left/Instapundit might have something over there....
Lay it out clearly. I'm not asserting that Rolling Stone is giving the full story. I assume it's through a left-wing filter, but they present specific assertions of fact.
"When this story first broke, I wondered whether it would fit 'the GOP narrative — we're in a horrific crime wave — or the Democratic narrative — domestic terrorism.' At this point, it seems to be the latter."
If we are going this direction, let's throw the book at Christine Pelosi, daughter of you-know-who, who tweeted after Rand Paul was assaulted by his next-door neighbor and had six ribs broken, "Rand Paul's neighbor was right". Also, what about that guy who shot up the GOP baseball practice and almost killed Steve Scalise? Of course, there is the Justice Kavanaugh would-be killer.
There is plenty to work with on the Dem domestic terrorism side of the aisle.
How stupid do these media people think we are? How stupid are they?
‘: "hat George Floyd died of a drug overdose... [and] that shadowy elites are using the Covid-19 to drastically reshape society as we know it.."
I mena, if those are crazy conspiracies......maybe I'm having a break with reality too.”
I’d say you and many others here are having a break with reality, you’re not alone.
It certainly looks different from the fake kidnapping of Gov. Whitmer, to say nothing of Jan. 6 itself, "arguably (cough cough) the worst day in American history." It's hard to believe Nancy would want her husband's head to be bashed in.
Althouse, I won't play this game. Left? Right? He is insane. Just like Rand Paul's crazy neighbor, and James Hodgkinson, and Nicholas Roske, and, what the hell, Darrell Brooks.
This is a futile attempt to assign blame or gain insight into something that doesn't mean anything.
Pelosi may be a guy who sleeps in his underwear. Why the other guy was in his undies is a mystery.
How much broken glass was inside and how much was outside is also something to be ascertained.
He's a Berkeley hippie, who was a nudist who made hemp jewelry for a living. Definitely not a description I would give to a righty. Maybe the shit filled streets pissed him off. You don't have to be a Right Winger to hate what the Democrats are doing to the country. I wonder if Nancy will release the videos from her house. If not, WHY??
They are trying too hard to connect this to January 6th. The way the FBI and the rest of the liars have been embellishing stories to fit their narrative, what would stop them NOW??
There are two aspects to conspiracy or fringe theories: the theory itself, and the attempt to suppress it. I think that people are more likely to get triggered by the latter.
Professor, I suggest that you very carefully read the phrasing of the RS article before you state that they "present specific assertions of fact." What they present are snippets from a 15 year online history of a nutcase citing various things on his own obscure blog--and apparently citing some of them--i.e., Christian claims--to oppose them. Context is important. The context here appears to be that this guy is deeply into his own bizzaro world.
Whether he is "on the left" or "on the right" seems to be the most important thing in the media narrative.
Suppose it turns out that the guy believes that the world is coming to an end because of "climate change." Will that discredit the Green Movement? It shouldn't (and the Green Movement is doing just fine discrediting itself without his help, thank you). Same goes for "Anti-Vax" movement, or 2d Amendment movement, or whatever.
What the hell was he doing in Pelosi's house in his underwear?
It’s amazing that the internet age and availability of information has led us to this point in (non)critical thinking: man believes in X, therefore all those who believe in X are like this man.

What WAS IT, that Mr Pelsoi said on the 911 call, that the operator had to "intuit" as needing help
San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said a "higher priority dispatch" was sent to the residence of Paul Pelosi because of the 911 operator's "intuition" that there was "something more to the incident than what she was being told."
what EVER it was, it led to a "wellness check".
He could be a right-wing nut job. His Bio is a little too perfect. Is he a MAGA? All that's missing is Trump.
i guess, this was it:
heard Pelosi say: 'What's going on? Why are you here? What are you doing to me?'.
The operator could then be heard contacting police dispatch describing the incident: 'He states there is a male in the home and that he is going to wait for his wife. He stated that he doesn't know who the male is but that his name is David and that he is a friend. He sounded somewhat confused.'
"Well shut my mouth wide open" - Stymie
If you were going to make a case for "things spinning out of control" this event would have to be an element in the calculation. It'll be a rabbit hole for some and kryptonite for others. Which side will be which? At this point, I have no idea.
My thoughts in human terms go to Nancy Pelosi and her family. Nobody wanted this. It does underscore the established fact that the chaos factor in SF is off the charts. Politically and personally it is all disaster. Efforts at cope are doomed to failure at this point. There will have to be some honesty and some trust based on that honesty before there is any hope of getting past where we are right now, and I don't see any indication that it is anywhere close.
Maybee just addressed it Anne. He’s a gay hustler who shacks up with the speaker of the house’s degenerate husband. Then things went bad. Musta been the poppers.

My firm served a lawsuit against Paul Pelosi one time in SF after attempting to serve at other residences—Napa, Georgetown. They weren’t home, but staff were, & multiple law enforcement officers were on the perimeter. Break-in is odd given this level of security.
@Althouse, after the University of Virginia fraternity rape story blew up as badly as it did, one would assume that a neutral and unbiased reader of a Rolling Stone would read an article these days with a degree of skepticism. Recall that “facts” were also asserted in that article.

You and all these people are playing stupid games just like the media wants you to.
Lay it out clearly. I'm not asserting that Rolling Stone is giving the full story. I assume it's through a left-wing filter, but they present specific assertions of fact.
1. This narrative garbage is just that. Playing this stupid game is feeding the division of this country. You are happy to sit there egging on a civil war as if these leftist shitheads are not going to come for you too.
2. Certainly nobody cares what the Rolling Stones has to say about it unless you are just a dishonest person. If you read this story they perused over a decade worth of posts to find 2 or 3 examples of beliefs that are oblique at best in social media posts? Complete fucking joke.
You should be ashamed of using this completely discredited rag as a source for anything. Just go watch it's owner speak on Joe Rogan.
3. This guy was a Hemp Jewelry maker in Berkley who oversaw nudist weddings. Actual real reporters did some digging. He was inside the Pelosi house and they were in an intimate encounter.
Deal with it.
I’m sure we can all agree the lunatics who say things that resemble our politics have nothing whatsoever to do with us, while the lunatics who say things that resemble the other side’s politics are conclusive proof of the other side’s depravity.
the conspiracist QAnon movement
QAnon himself did not promote any conspiracy theories.
Rather, QAnon promoted trust and support for President Trump.
However, various people discuss QAnon on the Internet. Some of those people promote conspiracy theories in their discussions.
Those conspiracy theories are called "QAnon conspiracy theories" by people who do not really know anything about QAnon.
Now we see this correction: conspiracist QAnon movement.
That phrase is more correct than the stupid phrase "QAnon conspiracy theories".
I just saw video of the house and the 911 call. The video shows glass outside the house. The 911 dispatcher says, “he’s a friend.”
Friend.
From Breitbart News...
Later in the day, the FBI visited a Berkeley home linked to DePape, which neighbors call the “hippie collective,” NBC Bay Area’s Jaxon Van Derbeken reported.
Interestingly, a photo of the outside of the house revealed several signs supporting left-leaning causes, which stands in contrast to attempts to link the attacker to “MAGA extremists.”
For example, an American flag with rainbow colors and marijuana leaves can be seen in front of the house. Looking closer, a handwritten “Black Lives Matter” sign can be seen hanging in one of the home’s windows.
Further, another sign posted in a different window reads, “Berkeley Stands United Against Hate,” which refers to a Berkeley-based organization that aims to “stop the hate and implicit biases that are a dangerous threat to the safety and civility of our neighborhoods, towns and cities.”
A photo of the front of the house in included in the article.

That's basically it. Aptly put. I call on everyone here to rise above that.
A process server described the Pelosi home as an impenetrable fortress surrounded by Green Berets. It is so very odd that a homeless, crazed and drugged homosexual hustler got in.
Maybe Mr. Depape had an invisibility cloak?
Yes - Inga - we've all wanted to use our right to freedom of speech, thought, and opinion - to break in and hurt Pelosi's husband. You nailed us!
Inga - you're the perfect caricature of the left.
Inga- George Floyd was on drugs. He had Fentanyl in his system. Do you deny this?
Inga - Covid came from a Chinese lab - do you deny this?
Inga - Millions of people have questions when Democrats take an extra week to "count" votes - are Americans not allowed to ask questions?
Inga - you yourself are an election denier and a Russia-stole-the-election from Hillary conspiracy wholesale believer.
Inga- Using words like "Election denier" is a comparison to Holocaust denial. Fact. It's vile and it's a leftwing tactic.
Inga- Most holocaust denialists are on the left. (tho yes - they share that insanity with some
on the right)

Assertions of fact are just that. They are not facts, they are assertions. They have specificity and the source is identified. It's what it is and no more. It is up to us to gather evidence and weigh it. You make the assertion that Rolling Stone is, in general, untrustworthy. I had already said that myself. So what's your point. To me, it reads as utter emptiness, nothing but a confession of a failure to understand what *I* wrote.
It's Rolling Stone, so they'll probably claim that this guy is the real Havan Monaghan.
I saw and heard it live on MSNBC. Truth. I’m looking for a link now.
“It certainly looks different from the fake kidnapping of Gov. Whitmer, to say nothing of Jan. 6 itself, "arguably (cough cough) the worst day in American history." It's hard to believe Nancy would want her husband's head to be bashed in.”
Fake kidnapping? In what reality do you people live in?
Three men accused of supporting terrorism in the plot to kidnap Michigan’s governor were convicted of all charges Wednesday in a trial that focused on paramilitary drills and fierce contempt for government ahead of the 2020 election.
All the insights are into soap opera, which 100% circumscribes what can be talked about.
At this point I'm going to assume the least crazy- in my mind- scenario: Paul Pelosi wakes up to hear a noise in his house. He grabs a hammer and goes down to find this guy in there, demanding to see Nancy. Paul talks him down, calls Nancy, and manages to give her a hint to call the police, which she does. Police go to make a welfare check, at which point the dude flips out and attacks Paul.
Is this a fact?
"He lived with nudist activists in the liberal enclave of Berkeley and was best man at a 2013 nudist wedding "
Huh. OK.
Is this a fact?
"He ended up in the Berkeley area, an ultra-liberal enclave of the city, where he lived in a three-bedroom Victorian flat with famed nudist activist Gypsy Taub and a group who believed 9/11 was an 'inside job'."
Gamergate was about the supplanting of actual gamers in the magazines and awards with feminist plants intended to assert control over the direction of gaming. If this sounds impossible to you, you may not be paying attention to anything going on. But this guy sounds crazy, and crazy people can read, too. Look at the guy who shot up the Republican softball practice. Rachael Maddow convinced him that all Republicans are traitors to America rather than just the opposition party to Democrats.
To me it doesn't matter which side hammer boy was on. There are plenty of nuts on all sides.
The Rolling Stone article is pushing a narrative for a purpose, the purpose is to create support for the leftist agenda which is censorship of political opposition and effectively one-party rule.
Are there articles on the right pushing a narrative? Of course, but their purpose is to create support for freedom of the press and of speech. So let's not pretend all things are equal. Let's not pretend an attack on Paul Pelosi, as awful as it may have been for him, justifies shutting down the free exchange of ideas. That's the idea Rolling Stone and Dems are pushing.
That’s some serious mental masturbation ma’am.
Most stories say that depape was in "his underwear"
I'm finding this unclear. Do they mean he was in his own underwear? Or perhaps in his (pelosi's) underwear.
If the latter it would still not be the most bizarre part of the story.

I hold the sane people morally responsible for tempting and energizing the weak, delusional people of this world. The individual criminal deserves to be dealt with by the criminal law (or institutionalized as mentally ill and dangerous), but the extremists who are jacking up emotion and hatred cannot walk away and say they've got nothing to do with it because the evildoer is crazy.
We live in a world that contains people at all points of a lucid-to-crazy spectrum and at all points of a self-control-to-irresistibly-impulsive spectrum. If we, the sane and self-controlled are going to seek power and influence through stirring people up with political extremism and wild conspiracies, we are *morally* responsible.

What does it mean to say a "home" is "linked to" somebody? If you could say this was his home, you'd say it wouldn't you?
I'm a bit concerned how easy it was for this guy to break into the Pelosi's home.
I will just go with he was insane and should have been taken off the streets long ago.
RS also got busted on a story about ivermectin in Oklahoma. That one didn't last a day. It's one thing to be fooled by Erdely as regards the UVA hoax. She went out and got something and presented it to the magazine.
It's another to look at a picture of a line of people in winter clothes and claim they're outside an Oklahoma hospital ER in early September. With nobody in wheel chairs or on gurneys or with dressings. That was a flat lie.

Many of us rightly do not trust the media to deliver the truth.
Fake hate crimes and Fake racist hate crime hoaxes are the rule now. with Media rushing in to report their version of "facts" before the story flushes out.
Smollette.
I do question the timing. Why not? Also - if Mr. Pelosi was smashed with a hammer - that is some serious stuff. Do we know the extent of his injuries?
ooops - asking questions is now considered Qanon, or something.

“His name is David and he is a friend….”
Well at least they got to group Holocaust denial along with climate denial and election denial. They hit on the Big Three.
This is much like trying to come up with interpretations for Pierre Soulages black paintings. Trying to figure out where David DePape is coming from is a waste of time. He is clearly mentally ill, needs massive help, and needs to be secured and off the streets, which, if it wasn't for him attacking a Pelosi, might be in question in San Francisco.
We have so much of this type of crazy, aggressive behavior going on around the country. Most of it is random, in the streets of Seattle or Portland, New York or Baltimore or Chicago. Pick your city. What surprises me is that we don't have more attacks of this political nature. But I suspect we will- on both sides. The press, social media, and podcasts, have been grooming it for years. One needs only mix a bit of truth with a lot of fiction and you can set off a person who is not moored to reality.
I note that this is the husband of the Speaker of the House, in a location across the country from where she was. It was not, as in the case of Brett Kavanaugh, someone coming directly for him. It was not Sen. Rand Paul's wife who got attacked, it was the Senator, and it nearly killed him. It was not, as in the case of James Hodgkinson, bringing a rifle to a ballgame with the intent of a mass killing (and nearly succeeding). I point this out only because I know we will have the media piling on about the threat of white supremacists behind every tree. This attack was horrible. But do note the response to the media and the left at large when Sen. Rand was attacked, Brett Kavanaugh was threatened, and Rep. Steven Scalise was shot. It was pretty bizarre to read people wishing the job had succeeded.
Trump voters are, as a rule, not nudist activists who specialize in making hemp jewelry. So while he may have some characteristics that the press attaches to the White Trump Voter, this guy is all over the map and if anything, is simply crazy.
You can still access his webpage using archive.org's Wayback Machine. It gives you an idea of what he was thinking about, though can't read the actual blogposts if you aren't a subscriber. Most of the writing comes from the last ten weeks. Maybe he'd done the writing over a longer period and dumped it all together only recently. Was he contemplating this attack and wanting to produce a manifesto for it? Was this all some "false flag" operation?
A lot of conspiratorialist thinking blurs the line between right and left. There are some common themes, and people who swing from one extreme to the other aren't uncommon. I think he was just a nut, but he does seem to have dipped deep into "right wing" memes, and this is going to be used by the regime.

Left-wing ideology. He subscribes to the Pro-Choice ethical religion that denies human dignity and agency, and reduces human life to negotiable commodities a la Maoism, Nazism, Fascism, Progressivism, Liberalism, etc. Rolling Stone is normalizing extremism in service of totalitarianism.
Nudism is a threat to trans people too.
Simulations, orientations, and delusions that don't weather the scrutiny of observation.
When Mr. Pelosi was arrested for DUI, there was a random, young man in the car with him. Now a Castro Nudist (i.e, a militant gay hooker) beat him up at 2:30 AM? Both incidents occurred about thirty minutes after the gay bars close.
This man is obviously homosexual.
Is depape in custody or has he been released yet?
In other words is he being treated special or like anyone else who attacks an elderly man?
My guess is that he will be held incommunicado until after the election. Just a guess, though.

Finally, the lefties get their wish. A violent right wing extremist. The score is now thousands to one. (No, I don't count the January 6th trespassers as in the same category as Antifa/BLM arsonists and murderers.)
Berkeley is MAGA country.
Who knew?
If you've got evidence that DePape is actually on the left, please present it... as specifically as you can.
Does crazy really fit a left/right narrative? They pick up what's out there. And they filter it through their crazy/meth mind.
He was a nudist protestor in the Castro district for a while. He made Hemp jewelry. Then he was quiet for a while, then he picked up whatever was kind of the anti-establishment narrative. That's what crazy people do. They break into people's homes and want to chat with them. They wear their underwear around.
When I lived in LA, a friend had a guy just come into his home and say "they" were after him. The government. He hung out and chatted nonsense and made my friend nervous but then he just left.
My husband had a woman call him up for an appointment, and when he got to her home she explained she needed to sell her house because the FBI was following her around at Planet Fitness.
Crazy people think someone is after them, someone is lying to them, and they don't trust the government. Weirdly, not trusting the government has become right-wing, although that used to be left-wing.
Berkeley is MAGA country.
Who knew?
Rather, QAnon promoted trust and support for President Trump.
Reverse psychology? Clever.
Althouse, I won't play this game. Left? Right? He is insane. Just like Rand Paul's crazy neighbor, and James Hodgkinson, and Nicholas Roske, and, what the hell, Darrell Brooks.
100%. What reflects badly on the rest of us is when we do one or both of the following:
1. Conflate the actions of a disturbed person with the people who share some or even all of that disturbed person's "political" opinions.
2. Spin tales of false flags and conspiracies (in advance of facts, since Smollett really did what he did) that both make it appear that we believe that the disturbed person is somehow representative of "our side," and undermine the worthwhile pursuit of "our side's" goals.
Of course there really is the imbalance in news coverage that will mean that if this attack on an elderly, well-connected man was not just ("just"!) the act of a disturbed person (about whom Democrats are already following Choice #1, above, to try to tie him to Republicans) the story will be buried. This, I think, is why some on the Right are so quick to get those false flag stories out there - because they know that if the rumor isn't already circulating, it will be smothered with a pillow, a la Iowahawk. So I sympathize, but unfortunately the Choice #2 approach can give those like Inga the idea that their Choice #1 approach makes sense.
About that "friend" business, I found this as the Daily Mail and now see that gilbar already quoted and linked to it:
""The 911 operator is said to have sensed something was wrong and heard Pelosi say: 'What's going on? Why are you here? What are you doing to me?'. The operator could then be heard contacting police dispatch describing the incident: 'He states there is a male in the home and that he is going to wait for his wife. He stated that he doesn't know who the male is but that his name is David and that he is a friend. He sounded somewhat confused.' The police dispatch can then be heard declaring a 'code 3' which is police radio code for an emergency. 'It was thanks to Mr Pelosi having the ability to make that call' and the 'instincts of that dispatcher to realize something was wrong' police were able to reach him so quickly, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins told CNN. 'They got there within two minutes to respond to this situation.' "
Pelosi had to ask for help without it sounding to the assailant as if he were calling for help. He said he was a friend in that context and he also said something that the operator phrased as "he doesn't know who the male is."
How can you read that and take it to mean that the guy was Pelosi's friend? Such bias. You should be embarrassed.
" Hunter Biden's tax payer funded Hooker said...
I'm a bit concerned how easy it was for this guy to break into the Pelosi's home."
Yeah, me too. Along with how easy it was to break into the Capitol building.
"And this tells me a lot about Rolling Stone : 'that George Floyd died of a drug overdose... [and] that shadowy elites are using the Covid-19 to drastically reshape society as we know it..'
I mean, if those are crazy conspiracies......maybe I'm having a break with reality too."
Yes.

A former residence of his, a current rental property he owns, or the home of an ex-spouse, child, relative, or friend?
And it's not a game. You don't get to opt out of moral judgment.
That's the game of pretending it's serious. Women do that to men, who are then obliged to pretend they give a shit.
He's anti-religion and a nudist living in San Francisco, but sure, he's on the right. I guess that's the case because he is pro-first amendment and anyone that supports free speech these days is an ultra right-wing extremist, thus the claim by the host he's a domestic terrorist. It is a John Stewart clown nose off day.
I wonder how many other home invasions there were in the San Francisco area that same night and whether or not the perpetrators in those crimes have been apprehended and their social media activity examined.
Why is the Paul Pelosi story any more noteworthy than any other crime that happened in San Francisco on the same day, presumably including homicides and rapes and other violent assaults. It seems elitist, Paul Pelosi counts because of his wife and because the attacker apparently espoused extremist or irrational political views that can be weaponized to pin blame on other people.
But then we're all supposed to be "our brother's keeper" to keep the crazies from getting all energized, which means we must self-moderate to make sure we don't encourage the DePapes of the world and that's all supposed to matter more than the criminals who are just out there maiming and killing and destroying but with supposedly apolitical motives. There are a whole lot more of those guys (and gals) than there are DePapes but the resources that are being devoted to the latter would make you think otherwise.

And DePape lived in a school bus in the driveway of the home visited by the FBI.
Agreed - "The friend" part of this is confusing.
The call for evidence. How about circumstantial evidence? He was a resident of San Francisco. Biden carried it 85% to 15%. Presided over naked weddings, not something you see at evangelical ceremonies. He decried censorship. So does lefty Glenn Greenwald. Made hemp jewelry. Maybe it helps to say what a moral argument is. It's not meant to decide anything but to stake out positions that you'll respectively take responsibility for. That's what makes it moral rather than fact-based. Philosophers are always trying to derive ought from is, thinking that moral arguments ought to result in agreement if logic is any good.
You may not be able to accept my position and decide that I'm a moral incompetent, nothing is more common today. If you can find a reason you might take me to court on it, not to let the court decide that I'm wrong but itself as an expression that enough is enough, no matter what the court says.
All the social dynamics are familiar.
The alternative to court is stamping of tiny foot.
Go Augustine's route to avoid it - think the best of the opponent instead of the worst.
We're wasting a lot of time here worrying about whether he's a left wing nut or a right wing nut so that we can ascribe blame to the side we don't like.

I do get this, but as your "Civility Bullshit" doctrine points out...where does that begin and end?
I too think powers that be used Covid to get what they wanted and consolidate power. Inga says from that she thinks I'm crazy. But Biden is using it as his legal basis for Student Loan forgiveness. There are still people who lost their jobs because they wouldn't get vaccinated. California passed a law that doctors can be fined for Covid "misinformation".
So is talking about that just too dangerous?
And January 6. Which is the bad thing? People who think Trump really won that election? The riot itself? The whole protest on the day? Or the people who are holding hearings saying our Democracy almost died that day? That our Democracy is very tenuous now?
Where do you draw the line about what is too dangerous to talk about, and when does group moral responsibility kick in?
Again. We have a right to be skeptical after all the lies and false facts Pelosi and the FBI have spewed for the last 6 years. Maybe if they didn't start hoaxes that meant to take down a duly elected President because he was trying to clean up their corruption. Why be trusting of them now?? THEY did this to themselves.

"Pelosi had to ask for help without it sounding to the assailant as if he were calling for help."
In the courtroom, we would call that "a conclusion not based on the evidence."
Maybe we should wait and see how it plays out. You know, underwear and all that.
What does it mean to say a "home" is "linked to" somebody? If you could say this was his home, you'd say it wouldn't you?
He lived there without a lease. I.e., crashed on the couch. I don't have a link but the story I read was that he was the "father figure" in a throuple that was recently married.
Basically it the house he lived in, but he didn't own anything there. Hence "linked to". It doesn't matter though, we'll find out soon enough. He's alive. A man married to the person 3rd in line to the presidency had to have brain surgery. He'll be charged with attempted murder even in pro-crime San Francisco. Someone will put on his defense. 911 calls will be released. Bodycam footage will be released.
A few good questions from viva frei:
How did the individual break into the home undetected?
Why were both the assailant and the victim holding hammers at the time police intervened?
Why did the accused remain on the premises to be arrested?
You are fool, Althouse, and the media are playing you for one. Two men in their underwear inside a home of the Speaker of the House- this is no fucking breakin- this is some sort of sexual tryst gone awry. The 911 call couldn't be covered up, so the tactic is now to claim that Pelosi was speaking in "code".
But, sure, crazy people show up in upscale neighborhoods all the time in their underwear in the middle of the night and break into houses with high security, tell the occupant their names, and on the call the occupant calls the individual a friend. You really have to a moron to believe the media's story at this point in time.
What Jersey Fled said. The time being wasted was intended by the host deciding to do away with her mask of cruel neutrality and taking a side.
So what's your point. To me, it reads as utter emptiness, nothing but a confession of a failure to understand what *I* wrote.
My point is that after the University of Virginia fraternity rape story only a left-wing extremist would give enough credence to a Rolling Stone article to challenge reasonable people to prove them wrong. You are no longer a professor and I have never been one of your students. When you ask me what my point is, my response is that you are self-delusional to think you are anywhere nearly as skeptical of that scandal rag as a reasonable person by rights ought to be. I’m sure you disagree; I’m just telling you what it looks like from where I sit.
I do not choose to opt out of moral judgements. I look at the pain and suffering inflicted that the policies of the left have inflicted on ordinary people, and I am appalled. I have no idea who QAnon is or what he or she or they espouse. No moral person should ever vote Democrat now or or the foreseeable future.
It hasn't even been 24 hours since it happened so no one really knows enough. But apparently i have to make a moral judgement right now. That's a game I won't play. When I have a better picture of what really happened I will reserve judgement and not waste time deciding whether this best fits as evil Republican domestic terrorism or evil Democrat encouraged crime wave. And I may decide for the power of AND.
Why were both the assailant and the victim holding hammers at the time police intervened?
I think they both had their hands on the same hammer, perhaps as though they were struggling for it. Hammerboy came away with it...which is why he's Hammerboy. It's the Hammerboy origin story.
"If we, the sane and self-controlled are going to seek power and influence through stirring people up with political extremism and wild conspiracies, we are *morally* responsible."
Of course, from the standard prog standpoint, all GOPers are extreme and any questions about election fraud are conspiracies, so by implication we deplorables are morally responsible for anything stupid that anyone to the right of the left does.
I reject the prog premise (not Althouse's), but I will accept that responsibility if you also give me the power do something about it: to overturn prog control of public discourse and to remove the stirrable insane from ordinary society.
Question: do the persecutions of of the J6 "insurrectionists" count as stirring people up with political extremism?
What were his feeling about abortion? I bet he was pro-choice. Why don't they tell us what his feelings were about abortion? What news are they not telling us? So many rabbit holes, so few Alices......The guess here is that he will suffer a harsher punishment than Hinckley. This is one lunatic who will not be walking the streets after a brief stay in a mental hospital....Fanny Kaplan took a shot at Lenin and nearly succeeded in killing him. She was to the left of Lenin and had nothing to do with the Russian Whites. Didn't matter. After the assassination attempt, Lenin ordered several thousand White prisoners who were being held to be immediately executed. The guy who shot Kirov was a disappointed office seeker. He was not part of some Trotsky conspiracy. Didn't matter. Stalin rounded up thousands of old Bolsheviks and whisked them in the omelet bowl.....My conspiracy theory about conspiracy theories is that the left makes up conspiracy theories as part of a conspiracy to round up their opponents....Dimitrov the Bulgarian Communist who was charged by the Nazis for his involvement in the Reichstag fire was found innocent. Found innocent by the Nazis. WTF. Was this part of a conspiracy or are Nazis and other Trump supporters insufficiently blunt in persecuting conspirators.
The plot to kidnap Whitmer shouldn't have happened. That is a terrible and unacceptable way to handle things.
Does that mean we should not have been able to discuss the way she was handling COVID? Because it triggered awful people?
That she took away the license of a barber because he protested her closing his source of income? That she made it *illegal* to go to your own cottage in the same state? Illegal to buy seeds? That she used her Democratic Database management company to do "contact" tracing? That she had a huge hospital built and didn't use it while old people died in nursing homes?
I mean, were we all just supposed to accept that because talking about how her COVID rules were affecting working class people might have triggered kidnapping weirdos?
Indeed!

Paul Pelosi lives there so I don't find it odd that he would be in his underwear. I often am in my house in the middle of the night. And the attacker is some kind of nut so if he was partially disrobed when he got there or took off clothing afterwards, I don't find that hard to believe either.
If Paul Pelosi is looking for gay sex, he could presumably do better than David DePape. Especially in San Francisco, yes?
If you are awakened by an intruder in the middle of the night in your own home, you might be wearing only your underwear.
Why was Hammerboy in his underwear? The guy was apparently a nudist. Be thankful for small mercies.
The guy is being charged with elder abuse. THIS is how the World Health Organization defines elder abuse....
"WHO defined elder abuse as “a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship "where there is an expectation of trust" which causes harm or distress to an older person.”

What does it mean to say a "home" is "linked to" somebody? If you could say this was his home, you'd say it wouldn't you?
I would think so yes. It wasn't stated in the article if the house belonged to friends or if he stayed there. It's still early in the investigation. I just find it curious that the FBI were led to this house. What information do they have that link this guy and this house?
I really don't doubt the FBI or CIA has the ability to throw up some quick blog posts under someone's name to make them look guilty of something. DIdn't Edward Snowden uncover something about that? Just like I don't doubt they have the ability to completely wipe your social media and media history if, say, you are going to accuse a Supreme Court nominee of molesting you at some point when you were a teen.
That doesn't mean I think that's what happened here. But there's no doubt they could do it, right?
@Owen
I just accidentally deleted the comment you just submitted.
Please try again.
Turning this incident into a coherent narrative is, at this point, like trying to take a plate of cooked spaghetti and get it back into the package you bought it in. It's a Rorschach test for our priors. Relax, everyone. We'll figure this one out in a few months and we'll have to live with the sloppy partial record in the meantime.
Only in a country run by Democrats and documented by leftmediaswine would this have political significance.

"How can you read that and take it to mean that the guy was Pelosi's friend? Such bias. You should be embarrassed."
Really? If there is a tape in which Pelosi explicitly says the guy is a friend?
I understand that in the scenario you concocted, it is entirely possible that Pelosi was seeking to accomplish what you assume he was trying to accomplish.
But to tell someone they should be embarrassed for not accepting your unfounded assumptions and running with them? Really?
Something something withhold moral judgement.
I find it hugely absurd. Whatever you doin your own home is yourbusiness. Whatever goes out on the police radio is grist for the humor mill. Now two random gay dudes facing off with hammers in San Francisco isn't news worthy. But when one of them is the husband of the speaker of the house of representatives the schadenfreude meter pegs, so to speak. The sad thing is that there will be no record of the conversation between Nancy and Paul over this. Paul Pelosi becomes Florida man.

I, for one, am not embarrassed. I smell a rat. If I made that call to 911, they sure as heck would be asking me more questions. Two men in their underwear? Raises more questions than it answers. Two hammers? How does that work? Pelosi doesn't appear to be a handyman type of guy. If he was using a hammer as security in his night stand, he's a fool. No security alarm? Really?
Home is where you hang your hammer.
As far as I can tell, the only somewhat official description of the situation as a break-in came from the original statement (posted in the thread at AofSHQ issued by Pelosi's spokesperson. The SFPD in their presser described the call as conducting a wellness check. I find it odd that cops would use that formulation if they had evidence, which they should have been able to gather, to support the assertion that DePape did in fact break in, and was not in some fashion and for some purpose allowed to enter the Pelosi residence with permission. Permitted entry is not incompatible with Paul Pelosi later having to conceal a call to the police by describing DePape as a friend if one makes the entirely reasonable assumption that what may have started as at worst a neutral encounter, purpose unknown, turned south as some point.
I think it is important to note that we have absolutely no direct evidence of DePape's motivations or reasons for being at the Pelosi residence. Everything is speculation based on the circumstances and what appear to be selective extracts from either DePape's life-style or his blog postings.

For many homosexuals, the whole random anonymous hook up is a strong part of the thrill.
I don’t get your drift here, Althouse.
The left is using this incident as a pretext for censoring Trump and banning him from the political arena. “Trump’s speech causes violence!” Is the claim.
This is a bogus, dangerous argument, regardless of the particulars of the incident itself.

The 72 hour rule should be observed before we start coming to conclusions. That said, Paul Pelosi seems to have become a problem magnet. This suggests that he is either extraordinarily unlucky or needs professional help — perhaps both.
A substantial number of people now believe that Paul Pelosi is gay or bi. And cheating on his wife. If I’m a Dem, these aren’t bad things. Nancy should be proud.
Simple. Crazy guy breaks in, strips and takes a seat, waiting for Nancy to show up.
Paul goes to kitchen for a drink of water , sees nut on couch.
Paul has phone or device with quick-call 911 feature.
Pushes button to connect with operator and relay message.
Paul sneaks hammer from junk drawer.
Cops show up (who let them in?), perp feels betrayed by Paul, grabs hammer and gives him a couple of whacks.
Cops resist urge to shoot bad guy and simply tackle him and beat him with fists and/or nightsticks.
They got Achilles!

Recall the lady in California (Pasadena) this past week who smashed all the windows of a new home with a pick axe. Hammers sold out?
Two men in their underwear wrestling over a hammer. Goes on all the time in the gayer parts of San Francisco. And, according to this morning's Los Angeles Times, when the police arrived a third person opened the door. But supposedly Paul Pelosi told the assailant that he "had to go to the bathroom" interrupting whatever was going on. Pelosi had his phone on charge in the bathroom and supposedly called the cops from there.
Meantime the media (and my wife) are endlessly theorizing over what happened long before any "facts" [and there will be multiple versions of the supposed "facts" to fit whatever narrative is preferred] appear. I will wait and see and hold my judgment.
The best hammer for home defense is the one on my 1911.
How can you read that and take it to mean that the guy was Pelosi's friend? Such bias. You should be embarrassed.
From Twitter:
To everyone confused about the Pelosi situation: some of y’all have clearly never had a dispute with a person you pay for sex, and it shows.
I think the cognitive dissonance is that the man managed to bypass the Pelosi home security. That can't be possible so therefore he was invited in and therefore he was a 'special' sort of friend.
Note, I'm not saying that. I'm just saying it's possible. We'll know soon enough. If Paul Pelosi was engaged in late night rendezvous with male special friends it will be discovered. If his attacker is a lunatic (right or left wing) then we will find out that out to.
We shouldn't extrapolate this one incident into a political argument about which party is terrible.
If Paul was attacked by a right wing attacker then I pray for Paul's recovery and the attacker to be incarcerated.
If Paul was attacked by a left wing attacker then I pray for Paul's recovery and the attacker to be incarcerated.
The moral stance of this situation is easy.
Ann, two posts after this one, you write that people can "use Twitter to attack the powerful." If one of your readers suffers a psychotic break and decides that Twitter is telling him to kill political leaders, are you prepared to accept moral responsibility?
I don't think you can say that you were using an obvious metaphor and not inviting violence. You can't predict how an unstable person is going to react to your words. To use your formulation, you don't get to opt out of moral judgment.

Yes, whether authoritarian, libertarian, moderate middle, or conservative centrist, we should not publish, tweet, steer, bray, spread innuendo with extremist perception and choice.
@Gahrie,
Althouse has that strange kink for gay men that upper class, educated white women seem to always entertain.
That gay men often like to see how close to getting murdered they can get in pickup sex doesn’t compute for her. She believes the threat of violence comes from straight men, out of prejudice. Overwhelmingly, it comes from other gay men, from thrill seeking. The violent persecution of gay men by straight men is almost entirely bullshit.
The sordid, destructive and disgusting sex life of gay men is a damned good way to get murdered.
Althouse’s identity politics doesn’t allow for this reality.
I suspect the reason Hammerboy was in his underwear is, he's one them reformed nudists.
I would very much like to see an elaboration of these ideas that sets them alongside your admirable views concerning free speech. I get that First Amendment free speech is about legal consequences and what you’re talking about here is moral responsibility. But it seems to me that this moral judgment model contemplates an awful lot of chilled political speech. Is there a discernable difference, after some politician has been assassinated, between my having expressed a sincere opinion that the politician supported policies that would have horrid consequences and my having jacked up emotion and hatred against the politician?
"But here I sit on a Saturday morning, reading all the details that have come out over the last day, and I can’t help but come to one conclusion: This story makes no sense.
The public needs more information, and this event can’t be allowed to be swept under the rug in the way Paul Pelosi’s DUI arrest was."
"And let me be clear, none of this would matter if the press and Democrats weren’t jumping to the conclusion that this attack is somehow the fault of all Republicans. Those kinds of accusations are leading to people being suspicious of DePape’s background. If everyone had just come together and accepted that a crazy man did something crazy, it wouldn’t be an issue."

mask of cruel neutrality and taking a side.
Cruel neutrality feeds both sides and neither side. The motive, as they say, is in the pudding. If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding.
I hold the sane people morally responsible for tempting and energizing the weak, delusional people of this world.
Without specifics, this can be read to suggest that no partisan statement is moral.
With specifics, as the law describes, there's no one even close to being indicted for being responsible for this attack.
Just not seeing any bright lines out there beyond what we know of as legal responsibility for incitement.
Criminally insane people need to be contained. Partisans need to be allowed to speak.
“Inga - you're the perfect caricature of the left.”
“Inga- George Floyd was on drugs. He had Fentanyl in his system. Do you deny this?”
Not just fentanyl in his system, but enough to kill him - possibly 2-3x a potentially fatal level. Aloe a significant, but typically non fatal level of meth. Moreover, he was exhibiting \symptoms of a fentanyl overdose (foaming at the mouth, etc). The major state’s witness testified that he died from pressure on his neck, despite there having been no bruising there, and no real evidence that he had pressure put there. Black Muslim MN AG got the verdict he wanted, by buying it with state funds.
“Inga - Covid came from a Chinese lab - do you deny this?”
Worse, it was at least partially paid for by the US Govt, thanks to funding provided by St Fauci. We’ve had the evidence for most of two years now. It just grows every month. Despite an exhaustive search, researchers still haven’t found any COVID type viruses in other species with the unique furin cleavage site, in any other species, that are absent of indications of transfer from humans first. Remember, the SARS-CoV-2 virus was optimized to utilize HUMAN ACE2 receptors. There should be some genetic fingerprints showing how we got there in other species. There aren’t, but there are genetic fingerprints showing likely human gene manipulation.
Then there are the extremely dangerous mRNA vaccines. You are supposed to be a nurse - please explain to us, at a minimum, how vaccine boosters were supposed to protect anyone from the virus, after the 1st of 2022? Esp with a 100% vaccine mismatch between the vaccines up until last month (when the barely tested bivalent version was released) based on the spike protein generating RNA first decoded by the Chinese in late 2019, and the Omicron variant, with spike proteins that had mutated around the vaccine?
“Inga - Millions of people have questions when Democrats take an extra week to "count" votes - are Americans not allowed to ask questions?”
Evidence so far of maybe 750k questionable ballots counted in AZ, with Biden supposedly winning by 10k votes. Plus 2,000 Mules. Similar story in GA.
“Inga - you yourself are an election denier and a Russia-stole-the-election from Hillary conspiracy wholesale believer.”
Most here see that these examples are really instances where the left has Narratives that are contradicted by hard evidence, and to counter that, they call those believing the evidence, instead of espousing the Narrative, “Deniers”.
It's far too early for anybody, except Mr Pelosi, to know what really happened. Anything being peddle in the media is propaganda and you'd be a fool to believe it.
As for the crime versus domestic terrorist narratives, why do intelligent people waste time on that sport?
According to the propagandists in the media, attacks against Democrats are "domestic terrorism", while attacks against Republicans or conservatives, there's no need for labels. They just ignore the story as much as possible.
Putting a political spin by calling it "domestic terrorism" when alleged right-wingers commit a crime is simply a means to the end of silencing conservative voices.
When antifa and blm burned down many black-owned businesses it wasn't called a crime or terrorism, it was called a "mostly peaceful" protest. It's an obvious double-standard and it will not stand.
He's not right-wing. He's not left-wing. He may be motivated by real or constructed extremism from either side of the political spectrum, or something altogether different (e.g. contemplative cuckoo's assault of Giffords; the child who aborted his mother, grabbed her guns, then opened an abortion field at his school).
For every rabbit hole there is an Alice who is just the right size and shape to fit down it and explore the infinite tunnels that branch off of said rabbit hole.....This lunatic sounds like an organic leftist whose lunacy led him to embrace some ideas that are more typically right wing, but the pathology is uniquely his own. He is not of the right or of the left. He is crazy....I think there's a good chance that Covid 19 was formulated in a Chinese lab and, further, I believe with absolute certainty that there his no evidence that the Chinese government can present any evidence that will convince me otherwise. Does this make me some kind of Q-anon conspiracy nut?
Left, right, or non partisan, we can all agree Mr. Pelosi is having a run of bad luck.
And, they say bad luck comes in threes. What's next?
"Officers arrived at the house, knocked on the front door and were let inside by an unknown person. They discovered DePape and Pelosi struggling for a hammer, and after they instructed them to drop the weapon, Scott said, DePape took the hammer and “violently attacked” Pelosi."
WHO was the unknown person that let the police in the front door?? And why did DePape wait until the police were there to attack Pelosi??

If Paul was attacked by a right wing attacker then I pray for Paul's recovery and the attacker to be incarcerated.
If Paul was attacked by a left wing attacker then I pray for Paul's recovery and the attacker to be incarcerated.
The moral stance of this situation is easy.
Cruel consistency.
Just yesterday, reports started being released calling into question even more the idea that COVID was not lab-leaked. As in, it is very likely it was lab leaked. Althouse, I think you follow Jesse Singal and he has linked to some of this reporting on Twitter.
A year ago, two years ago, this was a right-wing racist conspiracy. Now it looks to be true. How can people get to any truth if what some power-that-be declares a Truth, and anyone disputing it is empowering crazy people to break into Paul Pelosi's house or don't care about AAPI people?

If journalists for one reason or another aren't interested in the basics of journalism, like identifying an unknown person in the midst of a deadly attack, then they have little standing to complain when conspiracies run wild on social media.
Anyone interested enough in the David DePape story to read this far in the comments will find the following twitter thread worth reading:

(I didn't read the Substack that is mentioned. The thread itself is quite interesting.)
This Twitter thread has a lot of info about him and the people he lives with.

I think THAT ONE comes on Nov 8th, when his wife gets Much More free time
I do think we have a moral obligation to help the mentally ill and drug addicted. I think our society glamorizes drug addiction or at least drug use, to our own detriment.
But when it comes to people who are addicted, we shun and we look the other way.
I blame the parents, if any.
It is not the battle over the hammer that is important.
It is the battle over the narrative.

That's what I thought too, but it is now reported that someone else let them in Pelosi's house. So we can't be certain who made the 911 call. Paul Pelosi, who didn't know who the guy was but said he was a friend to appease him. Or the other person in the house, who didn't know who the other guy is but Paul Pelosi said he's a friend.
(It's this third person that @redsteeze is referring to in wendybar's 11:36 comment)

You're only going to confuse her. Which makes her mad. Then she takes if out on her army of cats. Corporal kittens will not have a good day.
In many cases, an avowed nudist wearing underwear might very well be referred to as a friend, or at least a polite acquaintance.
Any actual confirmation ALLEGED assailant was dressed in Fruit of the Loom?
Or, is that Qanon rumor?

If you've got evidence that DePape is actually on the left, please present it... as specifically as you can.
No evidence. Gay nudists in Berkeley are well know right wing terrorists.

Pelosi is defeated next week and moves back in?
John stop fascism vote republican Henry
Paul Pelosi, who didn't know who the guy was but said he was a friend to appease him. Or the other person in the house, who didn't know who the other guy is but Paul Pelosi said he's a friend.

wendybar @ 9:41am… well said!
Irony is commenters on the web discounting guy being conspiracy theorist while positing
gay affair gone bad or govt false flag operation.
discounting guy being conspiracy theorist
Discounting attribution, not content.
Homeless guy with filthy clothes sees apparently un occupied home with door ajar.
Enters home, strips down, puts clothes in washing machine.
Surprised and attacked with hammer by homeowner.
Accidentally strikes elderly assailant while wrestling hammer from him.
SELF DEFENSE.
Poor homeless man beaten by police and hospitalized. Lawsuit against city anticipated.
Friends don't let friends..use hammers..on them..unlerss their into that sort of thing.
Let's see the tox screen.
Brian writes" "We'll know soon enough. If Paul Pelosi was engaged in late night rendezvous with male special friends it will be discovered. If his attacker is a lunatic (right or left wing) then we will find out that out to."
See, this is what give me hope for the future of humanity. Such a touching display of faith!
Professor Althouse: "I hold the sane people morally responsible for tempting and energizing the weak, delusional people of this world." Based soley on the limited information that's been reported, Mr. DePape referred to information posted by Mike Lindell, which in turn is labeled "conspiracy theories". Professor, you've made the distinction that questioning the validity of the election is not promoting a conspiracy. There were any number of questionable events that occurred during the 2020 election that have not been adequately addressed or explained. There are those who would take your defense of questioning these events as proof that you are guilty of promulgating said conspiracy. They don't see it as "Cruel Neutrality".
"No evidence. Gay nudists in Berkeley are well know right wing terrorists."
Perhaps you're ignorant, but one cannot infer someone's political leanings because he or she is a nudist or gay, or a gay nudist. There are plenty of nudists and gays who are conservatives.
Lay it out clearly. I'm not asserting that Rolling Stone is giving the full story. I assume it's through a left-wing filter, but they present specific assertions of fact.
First of all, this is from Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone does not have a good reputation for factual reporting - The UVA rape hoax being front and center - and they are not a trusted source. They make assertions of fact? And? Anyone can make assertions of fact. I am not obliged to accept assertions of facts. I may accept them, at least provisionally, if the source is generally trustworthy, but this magazine is certainly not that. I've been lied to for too many times to be that gullible. I especially am not that gullible when they lie in the same article with this:
Gamergate was an online misogynist harassment campaign that stretched across 2014 and 2015. It originated as a backlash to feminism and women in the video game industry...
Yeah, that's not accurate and pure left wing propaganda. Please do not ask me to debate facts with established liars.
Second of all, I do tire of the "one drop rule" of political activism. From what has been reported so far, the alleged attacker has been, for his entire life, engaged in left, far left, and radical left causes, while also showing more and more mental instability. But if he holds one position that is not left wing in any way, then suddenly he is right wing. That's not a reasonable position and the only reasons to accept that position are (a) you are a fanatical activist that finds any deviation from the acceptable orthodoxy to be treason or (b) you are a propagandist who is trying to fit a narrative. I suspect the Rolling Stone is staffed almost entirely with persons in one or both camps.
Third of all, the fact that I am being asked to address the motives of someone who I have never met and would never want to meet in regard to an event where the facts are still unclear, just so I can put a political spin on it, does not sound like (a) wise or (b) in good faith. It is the sort of thing Rolling Stone reporters do, not me.
There you go.
Some of Cookie's fellow nudists are conservatives.
Cook - It's the Berkeley part that gives the... clues.
