So says this Washington Post column by Yasmeen Abutaleb.
How does she know what "Democrats are increasingly accepting" and that it's a consequence of Trump's frequent presence in the news? Is keeping Trump in the news a way to assist Biden in deterring a primary challenger?
The most powerful factor in quieting talk of an intraparty challenge has been the reemergence of former president Donald Trump and Biden’s increasing willingness to attack him directly, serving to remind Democrats of what they consider their biggest threat and of Biden’s previous success in defeating him....Some potential rivals, for example, have taken to praising Biden in emphatic terms. Newsom called Biden’s recent slate of legislative victories a “master class” on governance. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) praised Biden’s student loan cancellation plan even though it fell short of the $50,000 she had called for.
$50,000 per person, I guess. By the way, did you notice that Biden's big speech never mentioned the student loan forgiveness?
Warren has said Biden “should be running” for reelection, and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said he would support the president if he chooses to run again....
Notice the difference between those 2 positions. Warren might run at the same time as Biden runs, but Bernie is not running. How could he? He's a year older than Biden.

The reality is - it is democrats who are totalitarian.
it is democrats who are fascist.
Fascism (simplified here) is when the government controls the levers and profit-centers of all industry. Control over every aspect of industry.
The democrats control the media. Democrats demand one party rule, and will say anything to get there. They will do anything to get there.
Tech oligarchs willingly - (or if not - are threatened by the FBI-KGB to obey) democratic diktats
and they do.
It's not a surprise that Biden left the student loan giveaway out of the speech since that's a great example of undemocratic, dictatorial and flat out illegitimate conduct, just what he was accusing Trump and the Republicans of doing.
My newish neighbors are from NY city - they are liberal of course- (they are older and retired) they told me they do not want these old guys. They do not want Biden or Trump. Yes - they said it.
Interesting ... huh?
The notion Biden is popular - I think that is all manufactured. Other than the loyalists, and deep state insiders - to any thinking adult - Biden is a old doddering freak show.
Bidens speech left out ALL of the lefts talking points, EXCEPT that Trump is Hitler. THAT is all his speech was about. Othering the other side and letting his side know it is okay to attack NAZIS because they are evil.
Clearly based on anecdotal evidence. The piece missing is that, based on polling across the country, the voters are tiring of old politicians at all levels, federal, state and local. There is polling data that shows these changes. There are obviously exceptions, particularly where an official continues to relate with the locals, in addition to “bringing home the bacon.” It’s the disconnected politicians that are endangered. There is a growing sentiment to turn government, at all levels, over to the next generation.
Does that mean Trump won’t run? No, he seems to set his course regardless of the polls. But it also doesn’t bode well for Biden. They both may make noise about running again, but in reality they most likely won’t.
There are already signs in the South saying “DeSantis for President. Trump without the craziness.”
How does she know?
She asked around the Post newsroom and polled the dinner party the night before.
Mickey Kaus has a theory that the Mar-a-Lago raid and the Independence Hall speech were designed as a last ditch attempt to focus the election on Trump and minimize the losses to a red wave. Then things started looking up for Biden and the Democrats but the raid was already in the works and they went ahead with the speech anyway. Thus it was a blunder.
Possibly, but the Democrats' fate may take another downturn in October, so this will be one way of "fortifying" the party's chances. I'm sure they have others.
Well Jo Biden DID Say, that He had created,
The most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics.
That's What beat Trump once, That's what it will take again
"But across American history Black people and people of color have had a justified, deep distrust of American institutions."
Bullshit. They voted for all these Democrat fuckups in charge of running the institutions they keep talking about when they discuss "institutional racism."
You elected the party of slavery, and then wonder why there's racism? Fuck is wrong with you people? Black people could end white supremacy in the United States all by themselves if they'd just fucking vote better.
You have an actual, literal black person who is the President's press secretary say the other day that if you're not "with the majority" then you are an extremist.
The majority once ruled she was 3/5ths of a person. And this ignorant house scrunt said this remark out loud, to an audience of alleged journalists, not one of whom reminded her of what the majority thinks about her lineage. If it was up to her, black people would STILL not count.
Black people own Joe Biden. They voted in unison to put this racist in charge. It's on ya'll. Don't come blaming whitey. We voted for Orange Man.
Lemme think.......who made Trump the candidate? The fucking newspapers.
When the newspapers turn, then all you have is voter fraud.

Trump is the boogie man to all Democrats. It's interesting to think why.
“ Abutaleb graduated from Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland in 2010, where she first learned about journalism on their newspaper, The Black and White. Abutaleb received a B.S. in microbiology and a B.A. in journalism from University of Maryland in 2014.”

They are not enthusiastic. They are trying to keep him front and center then indict him.
But their obvious jack boot tactics are turning off decent Americans.
There is always a portion of the population that is willing to subjugate and intimidate their way to power. It has been the overwhelming pattern of history that most societies are dominated by Regimes like the Biden Regime who will lie and cheat and violently attack people that get in their way.
We are not going to let this happen here. Society is defined by what it defines as incompatible and the incompatible is suppressed.
The question for you fascist shitheads is how long will you keep up your censorship and repression?
The people of this country are quickly deciding you are incompatible with a free society.
The farther you pull the pendulum towards fascism the farther it will swing back.
I read somewhere that the Biden speech has not translated into the president being asked to campaign alongside democrats running in tight elections.
And then there is this: "NYT columnist says Biden admin 'running a political operation,' using 'threat to democracy' as 'leverage'". The speech was a dud scud.
Put this column in the 'Keep Biden Alive' pile.
Democrats should be increasingly accepting of the idea that the rule of law and SCOTUS will put the end to Biden’s fairytale promises of debt forgiveness. It was a sop for saps. The tell is that form to apply for forgiveness won’t be available until after the midterms. That’s the whole point: midterm positioning. Just like the leak the DOJ won’t ask for arrest or indictment of Trump until after the midterms. Gotta keep the gaslighting going for a couple more months!
What is it with Democrats and their ability to elect the worst possible choices? I mean, do they INTENTIONALLY seek out the politically dysfunctional and inept?
Did they look at Biden and go "Hey, he's the best possible candidate in so many ways!"
Or were they looking for someone who was completely and totally open to manipulation of all sorts, who'd read whatever was put in front of him with passionate intensity and little comprehension, and zero thought about what the end results of whatever they were passionate about at the moment would be?
If Biden (or the people pulling his strings) WAS trying to do as much damage as possible to the country, what would he be doing different?
"With Trump frequently in the news, Democrats are increasingly accepting — if not enthusiastic — that the president will likely be their 2024 standard-bearer."
The first time I read that I thought they were talking about Trump.
Now I see they are talking about Biden.
Nobody thinks Biden is going to be the candidate in 2024.
What are they even talking about here? Biden will not finish his term. Less than 1% chance. There is a solid chance he is out before Republicans take the house.
This is a new level of disrespect the WAPO is showing for the people that reading it. They really think everyone who reads and thinks the WAPO is news is a fucking idiot.
To be the Democrats’ candidate in 2024 Joe Biden will have to not have died in office, resigned in disgrace, or been removed by one of the mechanisms listed in the 25th Amendment. So we’ll see.
Will Trump be the GOP candidate in 2024? Now that’s the interesting question.
The most powerful factor in quieting talk of an intraparty challenge ...
Such talk might become less quiet after the US House of Representatives conducts hearings about the Biden family's corruption and impeaches him for refusing to enforce our immigration laws, for forgiving all those student loans and for various other crimes.
"With Trump frequently in the news, Democrats are increasingly accepting — if not enthusiastic — that the president will likely be their 2024 standard-bearer."
2016 election replay. We know how it worked out that time. The DNC and news outlets - but I repeat myself - are trying for a do-over.
Hard to say how it will play out this time.
Gavin Newson will be the Democratic candidate in 2024, all but certain.
I now do think Trump is going to run (I didn't believe this 6 months ago), but he might not win the primary this time. It really does depend on whether or not DeSantis decides to challenge him. My feeling is that DeSantis will wait until 2028 if Trump decides he wants to try to retake the White House. For the GOP, it will be DeSantis or Trump- no other Republican looks like a winner to me.
I think that it was red meat for the base, and an attempt to embarrass the GOP. I also continue to suspect that it was done without the DoJ's knowledge. Someone at the WH bypassed Garland and told the FBI to go in. When the blowback got too hot, they told Garland to go out and take responsibility.
The admin has been flailing for over a year, at least since the Afghan debacle. My suspicion is that the WH leaked Breyer's retirement so that Biden could announce Justice Jackson at the State of the Union. I also think that the Dobbs leak came from the WH as well. Someone on SCOTUS gave them a copy of Alito's draft as a heads-up, and they chose to leak it in April when they needed a distraction from the bad economic news and the increasing push for student loan forgiveness.
Possibly, but the Democrats' fate may take another downturn in October, so this will be one way of "fortifying" the party's chances. I'm sure they have others.
My crazy-conspiracy-theory is that they'll try to indict Trump-endorsed candidates in key races. Masters, Oz, Walker, etc. The goal will be to scare off the normie voters.
I am increasingly convinced that the only reason for Dank Biden’s speech on Thursday was to goad Donald Trump into announcing his candidacy for 2024 before the midterms. Trump as scary bogeyman appears to be all that the Democrats have. That’s why they raided Mar-a-Lago, to bring him back into the headlines.
"Jerry said...

My theory is that this lack of good Democratic Party candidates for President is because of the narcissism of Barack Obama. He's the One. He knows it. Him and his adorers believe they began the End of History. Notice how, with all the love and outpouring of energy and talent for Obama's Presidency, he groomed NO new contenders to proceed him: NONE. (Compare the wealth of proven leadership talent on the GOP side when Trump first won, from Scott Walker to Rand Paul to Ben Carson).
To the extent that he is leading by phone, he's totally fine having dull-eyed Asshats in the Oval Office, and figures he can run the country another 30 years that way.
"Who made Trump the candidate?"
Barack Obama did, that's who. In 2011. At the White House Correspondent's Dinner.
Ostensibly when Obama, after two years, released his "real" birth certificate. That took two years to produce.

Biden won’t run again. No sense Trump running if Biden doesn’t.
The Democrats have concluded that their only hope of victory is to keep the Fat Tub of Goo in the news. His comments last week about being restored or having the 2020 election invalidated show he is unfit to be President.
Trump is truly the Democrat’s secret weapon. Every time he opens his pie hole thousands of independents switch from red to blue.
If Trump really cared about the nation he would announce that he is walking away from politics. But he does not care about anything except for soothing his ego. He does not care about the country or his followers.
If he were secretly colluding with Democrats to ensure victory and destruction of the Republic he would be doing exactly what he is doing now.
they go by lenin's maxim, 'the worse the better' who do they have mayor pete, zamboni lady, because harris runs a sentence to the ground, and then back up and starts again, they crave more destruction like odysseus's crew rushing toward the rocks, but the ship is this rickety country,
Huh?
Biden is the one Dem candidate who isn't enough of a mystery to ostensibly compare favorably with Trump.
Or were they looking for someone who was completely and totally open to manipulation of all sorts, who'd read whatever was put in front of him with passionate intensity and little comprehension, and zero thought about what the end results of whatever they were passionate about at the moment would be?
That's what they got, intentionally or not. Why did Clyburn do this ? That is an interesting question.
With the possible exception of Reagan Trump was the most effective president of my lifetime in terms of positive achievements for the country. Biden is the most destructive president, perhaps ever.
If I thought there was any going back for the country, I would like to see both fade away. However, any Republican president will be subjected to seditious attacks by the Democrats, the mediaswine and the Deep State. Any Democrat will pursue the destructive path trod by Obama and Biden. Consequently, the best hope for Republicans and the country would seem to be Trump who has faced it all before and may have learned from it.
The midterms may provide some insight into our future. If it is even possible to have an honest election and Republicans take Congress, there may be some hope. If the voters, by fair means or foul, choose inflation, open borders, rampant crime, a woke military, the climate hoax, childish, dangerous foreign policy, etc., we are well and truly screwed. The presidential election won't matter.

You keep saying this ignorant bullshit, and you keep getting corrected.
What does it take for you to stop, a rolled up newspaper across the nose?
Jerry: "... I mean, do they INTENTIONALLY seek out the politically dysfunctional and inept?"
They have no other choices. Throw "grifter" into the mix and name a prominent Democrat who does not fit the description "politically dysfunctional, inept, grifter" - assuming politically dysfunctional refers to doing the job, not just getting elected.
Tulsi may have been the exception. Her liberal credentials remain intact on most fronts, but she seems to have been driven from the party standard by the stupidity and the sleaziness.
A violation of the Presidential Records Act requires the individual to “forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States.”
So why would anyone "increasingly believe" that Trump will be the 2024 GOP standard-bearer?
"Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines’ proposed damage assessment of the documents is a remake of the January 2017 intelligence community assessment which claimed, without evidence, that Vladimir Putin wanted to put Trump in the Oval Office. The extensive redactions on the affidavit the FBI used to get a warrant to raid Trump’s home are akin to the excessive redactions on the application that the FBI showed a secret court in 2016 to get a warrant to spy on the Trump campaign. What was true for the original Russiagate holds here, too: The redactions are designed to hide not state secrets, but government corruption."
Yep
Trump is old, but he’s not been a politician for 30-50 years. He draws huge crowds so he has obviously not worn out his welcome at all just yet. Biden, Pelosi, McConnell, etc. are the guests that won’t take their hats and go.
My theory is that this lack of good Democratic Party candidates for President is because of the narcissism of Barack Obama. He's the One. He knows it. Obama was a disaster for the Dems. During his admin they lost 1000 seats across all levels of government. That meant that a lot of rising talent, especially in purple areas, were out, and the party was divided between the Schumer/Pelosi "old guard" safely ensconced in deep blue seats, and a cadre of young radicals.
His election also convinced a generation of Dems that they no longer needed the white working class. They could build a winning coalition with urban millennials, minorities, and single women.
"MAGA today. MAGA tomorrow. MAGA forever."
I am sure that will have some Demmie breathing hard.

I think the DC Republicans were at least as culpable.
Romney was foisted on us in a really shitty primary in 2012. He went on to prove he was really just a democrat funded stalking horse by losing to Obama on purpose.
All Cruz had to do was not be a slimy shithead in 2016. He was just a slimy weasel the entire primary and he hasn't really stopped being a big talking do nothing slimy weasel his whole career.
Now Desantis has decided he is going to act like a slimy shithead. He isn't even talking big anymore. If Trump runs and Desantis decides to run Desantis is a liar. And Desantis looks like he is supporting the deep state attacks on Trump.
What is wrong with these people?

Trumps success as a President is irrelevant to the present. Trump cannot win in 2024. Since the news switched from inflation, energy prices, the border, etc. to the raid on Mar-A-Lago independents have been switching from red to blue in droves. The generic ballot has gone from GOP + 7 to Democrats + 2. Trump now trails Biden by 6 for 2024.
The man is an absolute cancer on the prospects of his agenda.
For the Trupests the choice is either his agenda or him - you can’t have both.

Since when does the National Archives overrule the Constitution regarding the requirements to hold the office of President? If the Presidential Records Act were used to disqualify anyone, the Supreme Court would overturn that decision 9-0.

We need a smarter class of trolls here.
AMDG, you are free to vote for your type of preferred republican: Mitt, Jeb, Evan McMullin, John Kasich, even Max Boot or Bill Kristol in a write-in campaign.
Good luck.
I can read the phrase "increasingly accepting - if not enthusiastic" two ways. Depending on the tone of voice I mentally read it with, it could mean that they aren't just accepting but also enthusiastic, or that they are accepting, even if without enthusiasm.
"How does she know what "Democrats are increasingly accepting" and that it's a consequence of Trump's frequent presence in the news?"
A little billionaire told her.
Abutaleb wrote that terrible hagiography of all those jackalopes like fauci who botched the outbreak
I wrote in 2020 that Biden had dementia way back then. He is fading fast.
Sure, he can lead the Democratic Party in 2024, presuming he can still use a spoon.
Still a better candidate than VP Harris.

There is no smarter class of trolls. More malevolent maybe, but not smarter - unless their goal is to destroy the country. They are going about that in the right way.

For example, check out the Turley blog trolls. I suspect that they are DNC employees.

In 2016 I was inclined towards Walker...and then Walker hired a Who's Who of DC insiders and promptly went squishy beltway soft and completely disappeared. One of those advisors was idiot boy George Will's DC/beltway moron wife.
Meanwhile I'm watching that orabge guy out of the corner of my eye and thinking that crazy guy is daring to say the right things out loud.
But I migrated from Walker to Cruz, looking for the most conservative candidate and I voted for Cruz in my state primary.
But then we saw Cruz, not a naturally likeable dude to begin with, get knocked off stride easily by Trump and thinking this guy can get pushed around. A feeling proven correct by the convention when Cruz signalled it was totally cool to vote for Hillary.
And that was it for him.
So, stop trashing Trump and start talking up your candidate since you cant beat someone with nuthin'.

I have not seen any topics on other candidates but I will bite.
I am a Nikki Haley fan. A brutal campaign was run against her by SC establishment Republicans. They even got some guy to come and say that he slept with her. She prevailed so she showed a lot of toughness.
Unfortunately, as much as I like her I don’t see her moving the needle much.
I am starting to lean toward DeSantis. Why?
1. He is a counterpuncher extraordinaire. While Trump’s form of counterpunching is to make up some silly nickname and call your spouse ugly, DeSantis counterpunches with savage argument. Look at his take down of the former Mr. Guilfoyle when he ran those ads in Florida.
2. More than anyone else currently being discussed DeSantis has gotten in the trenches against the Wokification of America.
3. He studied and followed the science regarding COVID despite an onslaught of criticism, even from then President Trump, and held firm and turned out to be correct. He is tough and will not fold when in the right.
4. I believe he would crush Trump in a debate for the reasons stated above.
Nobody else has really caught my radar. I will not support a Senator for the job because legislators are uniquely unqualified for the job.
I do believe a DeSantis/Scott or Haley ticket would be hard to beat.
A DeSantis/Governor Guilfoyle contest would be a wonderful opportunity for voters to chooses between the two current visions for the country.
When I say that Trump’s record as President is irrelevant I mean it. When voters think of him they do not think of the Trump economy, instead, they think of the daily drama that swirls around him and they do not like it. He lost an election to freaking Joe “Tapioca Brain” Biden. Even if I did not despise him I would not support him because he is,too big of a risk.

Written by an elitist. If you were a person who actually worked for a living who might just remember when, during the Trump administration, you got real raises and saw your take home pay go up. Maybe you started to think you could send one of your kids off to a four year college without them and you incurring crippling levels of debt. Or perhaps you thought about replacing your broken down beater with a low mileage used car — or even a new car! — instead of replacing it with another beater. It’s possible you and the wife even thought about buying a larger house in a better school district, a house where your kids could have their own bedrooms.
Then along came Joe Biden and elitists like AMDG to drop trousers and piss all over your dreams. Buy a new house? As if! Your beater may be a money pit but a decent used car is way out of reach, much less the brand new EV that Biden’s Secretary of Energy and his Secretary of Transportation insist you buy. Forget college for your kids. And do you even still have a job thanks to Biden’s recession (that is not a recession because Biden and his elitists say it isn’t so there)? Maybe you’re even on disability thanks to the myocarditis you got as a side effect of the vaccine you were forced to take by Biden’s mandates. As far as AMDG and other elitists are concerned, it’s important for the peasantry to know its place.
I care more about the plumber who replaced the broken faucet in my house than I will ever care about any elitist. I care more about the honest mechanic who determined that my damaged side view mirror only needed a new cover and not a whole new unit than I will ever care about any suburban “soccer mommy.” I care more about the trash collectors picking up my trash in a pouring rain on a cold, dark, wintry morning than all the DC bureaucrats put together.
With guys(?) like AMDG it isn't about results. It's about appearances. Trump is icky. Well. So's MikeRs plumber, but he fixes things. And that's what we need. People who can fix things.
AMDG: "I am a Nikki Haley fan. A brutal campaign was run against her by SC establishment Republicans. They even got some guy to come and say that he slept with her. She prevailed so she showed a lot of toughness."
Nikki Haley is Jeb Bush/Mitt Romney and the entire base of the republican party knows it. Nikki will top out at 5% during the primaries as everyone witnessed for years how immediately and instinctively wrong so she was on so many issues.
I love how AMDG references how Haley survived a dirty trick from the South Carolina GOPe-ers (and she did) but then AMDG claims Trump's actual performance as President is irrelevant!
And Tim Scott just finished up fighting hard for the Murkowski-"wing" of the party! Talk about a national campaign loser move that was loved by The Dispatch and Bulwark types ONLY. And AMDG, of course.
Meanwhile, DeSantis has already come under the campaign managenent class of the GOPe and is picking up the vast bulk of his donations from the Nikki Haley donors and the establishment wall street funders.
That's why DeSantis is so slow to respond now to the fast breaking news, such as the NAL raid. He is being stage managed by the same dudes that capsized Walker.
Do we all like DeSantis' anti-woke policies? Yes.
Is DeSantis even known by the vast blue collar and increasingly populist working class national republican base yet? Nope.
Will this emerging national populist and working class base, the ONLY recipe for future republican national electoral competitiveness, fight for DeSantis the way they fight for Trump? Completely unproven thus far.
And DeSantis being clearly positioned and managed by the national DC types now does not bode well, despite the solid "Free State of Florida" narrative, which I like.
I dont necessarily blame DeSantis. He will need the complete support of the republican DC/GOPe machine to effectively compete on the national level. Trump never did.
AMDG'S comments betray a fundamebtal failure to understand just what the republican base looks like today and where that republican base is going. AMDG still wants to spend all his time with "safe" squishy types to appeal to those suburban socially liberal "republican" women...which is a loser strategy moving forward.
The correct strategy moving forward is expanding that diverse working class and populist base and then energizing that base for elections.
I would very much like to associate myself with Big Mike's comment at 8:00 AM.
"I am a Nikki Haley fan"
Your use of the present tense here speaks volumes, none of good.

Just another Romney supporter who did not learn the lesson of 2012.
The media can turn any Republican into Hitler. There will always be drama.
It is not a hard lesson to learn.
You are not very smart.
@Drago, so there are two of us against the elitists? Thank you, sir.
Oh my God, DeSantis is trying to appeal to all Republicans and it is offensive to Dragqueen and the rest of the Trump Colon Cowboy Brigade.
I got news for you. To achieve victory in 2024 a candidate is going to have to appeal to all Republicans.
Trump had the good fortune to run against two of the weakest Democrat candidates in history and he still was only one for two.
AMDG: "Oh my God, DeSantis is trying to appeal to all Republicans and it is offensive to Dragqueen and the rest of the Trump Colon Cowboy Brigade."
The "quality" of this comment explains much about you, and it ain't great.
AMDG continues with his stupidity: "I got news for you. To achieve victory in 2024 a candidate is going to have to appeal to all Republicans."
You have no "news" at all. Yours is an outdated view of the electorate and what it will take to gather a winning coalition and with which groups. You thinking Haley has a chance in hell is the biggest joke.
Butvwait, AMDG has "more"!: "Trump had the good fortune to run against two of the weakest Democrat candidates in history and he still was only one for two."
Yes, that is the standard lie pushed by all the GOPe quislings.
