Mountains are named sugarloaf all over. It needs a controversial name, like grand teton, or (in the Adirondacks) Nipple Top. I wonder if that's still there.

Ah, the green stuff, organic sweetener, and a cup of blue elixir in a carbon dioxide wonderland teaming with credits to Her Choice.

As there is a Presque Isle in Maine, so too is there. Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine.

While you're there, you should go to:

1/ Jilbert's Dairy. Get Peanut Butter Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream.
2/ Jean Kay's Pasties or Lawry's Pasty Shop. Get a Pasty!

Marquette was a large part of my childhood...

I'm jealous! Today Facebook reminded me that one year ago today, I was in Marquette. It's one of my happy places. The view from Sugarloaf is awesome. I hope you keep posting photos from your trip. Enjoy!

I have been on that mountain!

Believe it or not there is a pastie shop here in Southern California that makes very good pasties. Had my first taste of pasties while stationed at Sawyer AFB, and still have a souvenir from my four year tour...a steel plate with screws in my right arm after breaking it while skiing at Marquette Mountain.

We had good meals in Marquette at Cafe Bodega and Iron Bay Restaurant and Drinkery and enjoyed the coffee at Contrast Coffee.

If you want to climb a mountain using stairways, you can do that here.

Also I was able to sleep in the camper 2 nights in a row, which for me is an accomplishment.

I didn't realize campers were still a thing after my parents sold the Econoline.

Great fun when we discovered it leaked when it rained.

Ford stopped making them in 2014, like they stopped making almost everything else.

That's awesome! Who knew there'd be a Pasty shop in SoCal! I usually just mailorder them or make them myself (Live in NYC now.)

And I still remember going sledding with friends at the ski hill at K.I. when I was a kid. Good times...

I'm trying to understand what 'able' means in this context. You were at risk of going screaming out into the night?

I was able to sleep and not unhappy.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

The risk is insomnia and discomfort and screaming in my sleep is also something that can happen an there’s and obligation to adhere to quiet hours at the campground.

It's spelled "Nippletop" but otherwise easy to find. I included the first link below, but there were others (including Wikipedia).

Most people don't know what a horror it is to not chronically not get enough sleep.

I'm a picky sleeper myself. I also, before I retired and lost 50 lbs., had sleep apnea.

Since losing the weight (and not having to get up early for a day of work) I have shed the CPAP and just toss and turn a lot.

I can put up with strange beds and schedules in travel, but always love to get home after a few weeks.

(not chronically) Strike that ponderous shit.
