What traditionalism is this?

From WaPo's latest "Date Lab" story, "It started off well. Then it took a turn."
She has been in a long-term relationship but has never been married. She recently took a break from dating apps because of a “bad run of incompatibilities.” The other way that she has met potential mates is when she’s driving and “men roll down their window and say ‘Hey beautiful!’ and we hold up traffic while we exchange numbers.”...
At the end of the date, Jayson said he made the move to exchange numbers. “I said, ‘Hey, take my number and hit me up anytime if you want to.’ And she said, ‘I am a traditionalist and you should ask for my number.’ And I thought, ‘She’s spicy, I kind of like that.’ ” So, he formally asked for her number.

Alex, I'll take things that didn't happen as described (or at all...) for $1000.

Dear God, who reads this stuff.

Except Ann of course, who reads it in a purely academic sort of way.

Some traditional dishes are spicy.

Can you imaging giving your phone number to a stranger who calls out from a passing automobile and says something about how you look? That's catcalling. Many women get angry about it and present it as systemic oppression. I think the best approach is to completely ignore it. But I'd never thought of the opposite reaction: Actually stopping to offer to go out with the guy. The part about annoying other drivers and finding it amusing... it's just so awful. And then she disrespects the guy she voluntarily went out with because he offered her *his* number and did not ask for hers.

It's a hilarious regular feature at WaPo.

You don't seem to have much of a sense of fun. You're doing the kind of comment that I remember from years ago that often contained the phrase "You, a law professor" and that, here at Meadhouse, we just call "You, a law professor."

remember! when men..
"roll down their window and say ‘Hey beautiful!’", This is NOT Just sexual assault! this is RAPE!
unless, she thinks he's Hot.. THEN, it's a easy way into her pants.
Women (ALL Women) HATE men that are offensive and crude; except when it makes them hot, then it's okay!

The tradition, that a guy should
a) ask a woman
b) wait for her answer
not
c) tell her: Call Me.. If you Want To

Clearly, she likes the guy to take the first step, of rolling down his window and saying
Let's Do "IT"

What Do Women Want?

Can't you, a law professor, tell us?

Thomas Sowell's aphorism comes to mind:
Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good.

Maybe there is a good reason for young women to not offer themselves to random strange men.

"'She asked me if I would like to get married again, and it’s a hard firm no,' said Jayson. 'I saw that take her back a little bit.'"

Dude, what'd you think she was going to do, purr in your lap?

And did you expect her to coo over how cute your three kids are when you showed her their pix?

You wasted her night. Get back on Tinder.

It's always more fun being the one doing the choosing, assuming you are offered the choice.

Puts me in mind of the one TikTok chick who is irritated that she just looks so much better without makeup, how much time has she wasted over the years putting on makeup when she just waked up like this - et cetera. Every time our host posts a Tiktok from her, I have the strange sensation of my blood's boiling as I ROTFL.

But the person referenced here is evidently a real and actual person like that? Hmm.

"She's spicy."

But is she a breakfast taco?

I was a little surprised at the driving thing but she is, I guess, a limo driver at night, so meeting people like that isn't too surprising I think. I would guess as well that a woman as a limo driver is probably novel enough to make it less like "catcalling" though I agree that's what it is. To use Whoopi's phrase it's not "Catcall Catcalling"

You, a law professor?

I'm having a hard time seeing the Con Law issues in this case. And I come here solely for the Con Law take on events.

While I'm many decades past my meeting/dating women years but, way back then giving an "interested" woman your phone # & ask her to call if she'd like to get together was much better than asking for her #. After all, then women were somewhat hesitant to give their number, especially after a pleasant evening of drinks with a stranger.
