"Delicate floral details included in the redesigning of the rug in the Yellow Oval Room is an example of how that idea was incorporated into the interiors. We were also very focused on creating interiors that conveyed a
feminine strength, incorporating softer colors such as muted pinks, creams and soft blues with Classical structure to highlight this. It was important that the design honored the legacy of all First Ladies and
the strength of American women."
That's a lot of femininity for the White House family quarters.

"...the strength of American women."
What strength is that? In milligrams. Be specific. What are we talking about? Zoloft? Maybe it's acitalopram. Or maybe lithium?
All I know is the strength of modern American women is quite substantial when it comes to psychotropic and anti-depressant medication...or cocaine (us bitches love coke).
Give it 1 more generation and nothing short of bear tranquilizers will sufficiently do the job.
Trump's taste in decoration would make Liberace blush.
This is a lovely article. (I actually used a click-through to read it.) Melania is treated with respect. She hired a Laotian-American woman designer, which is mentioned but not highlighted. Every other designer mentioned is a man. You'd think the WaPo would give a little more push behind that, but the fact that they were pleasant is enough. It's just a straightforward article -- journalism! -- with no snark commentary except your own here.
I loved the Queen's room redecoration. I was able to see the whole article without the paywall. Melania has a great eye. I wish the press could give her more credit.
I'm not backing Trump for President in 2024, but it would be nice to see Melania as First Lady again -- or anyone that didn't insist on being addressed as "Doctor".
I liked all the choices. The rooms seem light and airy.
Yellow is the color of optimism.
"no snark commentary except your own"
My snark is entirely about using the concept of femininity to describe it.
I too was surprised by WaPo treating Melanie as if she were just another First Lady.
With tedious respect.
Can’t/won’t access behind paywall but I am curious about something. Is there a comments section? If so, any interesting comments about Melania? I too am surprised at a positive mention of her. That is unlikely to go with readership.
If American women are so strong how come they never pick up their end of the couch?
Jeff's Revenge-
I went there so you don't have to.

From the "We wont pay a penny to treat veterans with war related cancers" Party
comes the 'let them eat cake' decor. Lovely
