"I don’t want to get into how we know he was in Wisconsin, but we know he traveled into the Madison area before turning around and coming back."

Said Christopher Covelli, a spokesperson for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, quoted in "Alleged Illinois parade shooter came to Madison area before arrest, authorities say" (Wisconsin State Journal).

UPDATE: From the Washington Examiner, noting that Crimo has confessed:
Police also revealed that after the shooting, Crimo had considered carrying out another attack at a celebration in Madison, Wisconsin. Crimo arrived at the event in Wisconsin but indications are that he had not put in enough thought and research to conduct the attack, Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said. Crimo ditched his phone while in the Madison area....

They know because we all are carrying around a police-accessible tracking device, which sends data to the telephone company and tracks our every movement. They may obtain this data without a warrant, just by asking your cell phone provider for it.

It can also track your sudden visits to the Planned Parenthood abortion provider near you, and provide police with evidence that you crossed state lines to obtain an abortion. These crimes will be felonies in certain states.

Welcome to the future, ladies.

Yeah, I thought this then researched before I posted to find that Wisconsin doesn’t have toll roads. You could use such data to suggest he was driving to Wisconsin, but not to Madison. I hope you are good for the $20.

Oh, on previous post, “I wont’t buy means and methods”. I lost a u. Otherwise I agree that iPass and license plate readers and Mk. I eyeballs could be tips easily suggested, but they were not. So I continue to go with my assumption that the government doesn’t want us to know who the shooter met in Madison. If such a person was imminently dangerous to the public, then we would have been told to look out for them. We are not told to BOLO, so that suggests either a very innocent person being protected from persecution or more likely a political person.

You can pass a zillion laws but if you don't ENFORCE them... worthless.

And from what I hear he got 5-6 guns... no ARs I suspect since they are banned in Cook County & Chicago.

But all you need is a few regular rifles/shotguns and extra 5-10 shot mags. And of course he could have ran them over in his car (it WAS a parade you know!)

Without a doubt.

You cannot evade laws simply by driving across state lines. Have you not heard of the Commerce Clause?

It is already illegal to cross state lines for the purpose of, say, evading your state's gun laws. It is illegal, for example, for a pimp to carry his hooker across state lines for the purposes of evading prostitution laws. It is illegal to cross state lines into a state where currently weed is legal to purchase, to cite another example.

And once the arrests and prosecutions and very long felony jail sentences of women who obtain abortions begins, the left will suddenly discover that the tech companies they've been championing in the effort to squelch free speech in the United States maybe shouldn't be gathering all this data on us in the first place.

But Dunn was eager to drive away in his new car and, despite initial hesitation, he signed the document, a decision with which he has since made peace.

Buckwheat- I do not believe you are correct. I can go to another state and buy pot and consume it there. My state does not allow alcohol to be purchased outside of specific state owned stores. I can go to another state and buy alcohol anywhere. That's not illegal.

I just can't bring it back to my state, which is not relevant to your analogy.

I think it's pretty clear what will happen with abortion. The left's concern is that at the end of day most people will be able to live with this and most women will go on with their lives. It removes one more useful wedge than they haves they can divide and conquer.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

Buckwheathikes,

Those instances aren't relevant to the discussion at hand- you are talking about federal law enforcement. I grew up in a dry county in Kentucky, and it was perfectly legal to drive to Williamson, West Virginia to drink alcohol. What was illegal was bringing it back to the county I lived in, and even that probably wasn't illegal, I just don't remember- what was really illegal was bringing it back and trying to sell it in the country, as my uncle and aunt routinely got arrested for.

It is doubtful that any prosecution of abortions performed in, let's say New Mexico, will be prosecuted successfully in Texas by Texas prosecutors, even if the woman is a resident of Texas. It isn't like any other crimes are prosecuted this way outside of federal courts- jurisdiction matters when it comes to where the crime was committed when it is applied to state laws.

You're going to have a very long wait for that to happen. In fact, a large percentage of people in the pro-life movement have had abortions, and not a few of them have performed abortions.

Unless they're living in the countryside miles away from any neighbor- they're in an area with similar weapons right now. And if they're in the country with neighbor's a ½ mile apart, probably within ½ mile of one.

Firearms are indeed dangerous. As are hammers, knives, swords, and 5 gallon gasoline containers. Except for the last, found in most homes with lawnmowers and other small engines, none of them ever cause harm to people without human aid.

Exactly, human rights is not about retributive change. It is a restriction placed on government agents and licensees to carry out murder (i.e. elective abortion in privacy, in darkness, at the twilight fringe). Human rights is about discouraging the performance of human rites for social, redistributive, clinical, and fair weather causes. It is a rejection of the nominally secular Pro-Choice ethical religion that denies women and men's dignity and agency, and progresses human life as negotiable commodities. That said, women have four choices: sex or abstention, contraception in depth, adoption (i.e. shared/shifted responsibility), compassion (i.e. shared/personal responsibility), and an equal right to self-defense through reconciliation. The wicked solution is neither a good nor exclusive choice. Baby steps.

These collect the unique MAC address of every Bluetooth device that passes. Phon, car, watch, headphone etc. If it has a blootooth it will be pinged and logged.

The highway dept collects it for traffic flow.

They tend to be visible on the interstate. More concealed in more built-up areas.

The point being that it is not the firearm that is the actual issue, it is the "bloodthirsty killer" that is the issue. As has been shown both in the US and other countries, if the person wants to do harm they will find a way to do it regardless of what's available versus illegal.
