"For some Muslims, tradition holds that the grave site of the woman who is the biblical Eve is in the Red Sea city of Jeddah (the Arabic word for 'grandmother'). The cemetery’s caretaker said no women were allowed in.... The [Depp/Heard] trial resonated because it was a primary story. We find depictions of vertiginous falls compelling. It is human nature to be fascinated by stories that echo how our nature became human, in darker respects, once Adam and Eve were demoted to mere mortals. According to the Book of Genesis and 'Paradise Lost,' the sort of behavior described in the sordid defamation trial — jealousy, violence, excess, overindulgence — came as a result of Eve giving in to Satan and Adam giving in to Eve.... And what could be more Edenic than Depp’s $100-million property portfolio...?"
Writes Maureen Dowd, in "Johnny and Amber: Trouble in Paradise" (NYT).
Dowd is distancing herself from the sordid detail of Depp's proving he'd been defamed. Let's back way the hell off and see only the vague outlines of the timeless myth of Man and Woman.
But who knew they had Eve's tomb somewhere?

Mo decided long ago decided to spare herself the punishment inflicted on Eve for eating the forbidden fruit.
Maureen Dowd? Is she STILL alive? If so, is she still all dried out and yucky?
"The [Depp/Heard] trial resonated because it was a primary story"
The primary story being that a woman got exposed as a liar, and the MSM along with her.
The secondary story is that the prog narrative failed, which is intolerable. When they are done with their lamentations, what will be progs' next move? #BelieveAllWomen 2.0 will be met with: what about Amber? So what's it gonna be?
If this tomb does not show evidence of being submerged in water for a year, it can't be Eve's tomb.
This is just more of the "identity proves guilt or innocence" stuff that the left has been pushing for years, eventually, if they are left in power long enough, all trials will be show trials, and evidence will not matter, just which group you belong to, you know, like Trump's impeachment where he was not allowed to present any evidence in his favor, or even seek such evidence, which is what his lawyer, Giuliani, was trying to do in Ukraine, after Ukrainian interference in the US election, and he was impeached for trying to defend himself.
If you read about how Charles I lost his head, you will find a similar story of a head of Parliament making up whatever rules he needs to to get the king.
In Islam, in a trial, a Muslim's word counts double over the word of an infidel, so it will be that a Deocrat's word will count double over a Republican's, and there are commenters on this web site who would be fine with that.
I'm skeptical. At first, I was supportive of the "Eve's Tomb" tourist attraction. Lord knows how many churches have some splinters from the 'true cross', but probably too many. Why not Eve's tomb?
My interest only extends as far as Wikipedia research, but found this telling passage. I added the bold font to highlight the hundred year old clue. Everyone knows that Adam and Eve didn't have belly buttons.
"British Acting Consul S. R. Jordan, writing in early 1926, describes the tomb as follows:[8]
It may not be generally known that here is the Tomb of Eve, “ the mother of the world.” The grave is some 200 yards long and some 4 yards wide and has in the middle a small mosque, where formerly, on payment of a few piastres baksheish, the keeper of the edifice would lift a flagstone from the centre of the floor to allow sceptical Christians and pious Moslems an opportunity of admiring the lady’s navel. This tomb, until orders were issued to the contrary, used to be the favourite resort of childless wives and languishing maidens, but now has been closed under royal irade and anybody frequenting the place is punished."
Adam and Eve were created with spirits in mortal vessels in order to demonstrate their moral ("religious") character. The fall from grace followed their adoption of an ethical ("religious") or selective, relativistic, opportunistic alternative as children are want to do. Ironically, their admonition may have inspired the progress of the nominally "secular" cancel culture. Some religious sects believe they can sacrifice virginal human lives in atonement and receive favor for social, redistributive, clinical, and fair weather causes.
So she connects Depp/Heard to 'no women allowed.' Kind of a stretch...
But if all you have is a washed-up feminist hammer, everything is a nail...
I don't believe anyone's BS stories anymore. Everyone's speech is so littered with therapeutic cliches, "health issues" and "toxic family" and "abusive partner" etc, and we're all supposed to fill in the gaps with the Worst Things Imaginable to explain why the hero of the narrative is a homeless meth addict.
No.
I like the Dowd column and her attempt to find a deeper meaning in the Depp/Heard lawsuit. Maybe the significance of the lawsuit is our wish to find something significant about it.....Music For the Royal Fireworks. I wonder if the Depp/Heard lawsuit was something transient and grandiose like a fireworks exhibition that amuses the crowd on a summer night. Maybe some commentary will do for the lawsuit what Handel did for those fireworks that he witnessed.....Dowd's column is a better attempt than that of Goldberg or Wemple or, for that matter the ACLU/Heard op ed....I just hope we don't take our eye off the ball. It's the Kardashian/West divorce case that is truly emblematic of how we live now and what we can do to improve relations between the sexes.
So the gentry class position is that Amber Heard should be allowed to lie about physical abuse because she represents all women in some mystic fashion.
Richard Francis Burton’s book about his pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina, disguised as a Muslim, in the 1850s, contains a description of the tomb of Eve, which he visited en route to Mecca. That is an outstanding book, by the way. It is to travel writing what Charles Dickens, his contemporary, was to novel writing. It is a big, sprawling, highly descriptive and entertaining book.

Well, this statement is just bullshit. Other than the monkeys flying out of your butt telling you this happened, this statement is has no basis in fact--or even fantasy.
she does know that future king faisal, the one that gave us the oil embargo demolished the tomb in 1928, and it was filled with cements some forty years later,
Nice way to brag about your exotic vacation, Mo.
I look forward to seeing Johnny and Amber in the remake of "Samson and Delilah." Victor Mature and Hedy Lamar didn't do it for me. I don't care if she did invent the radio-controlled torpedo or whatever it was.

Probably the most famous place that forbids women access is the monastery on Mt. Athos in Greece. Not only are human women banned, but also all female animals except for cats. This ban is centuries old.
To be a fly on the wall when Maureen Dowd visited Eve's grave. They were sorority sisters y'know.
So, women are banned from Eve’s Tomb. Is this just another prohibition / restriction on women by the Religion of Peace (TM)? Using that religion’s logic (or illogic, as it were), since it is a tomb of a woman, in theory, was Eve’s remains removed? I mean, as a woman, she is not allowed to be there…
While she's still an impressively showy writer, is there anyone not by now thoroughly disgusted by M. Dowd?
How do you define a woman?
Anyone banned from Eve's Tomb.
Ernest--what's the basis for the exclusion of women? And, perhaps more significantly, the exception for female cats?
Islam is big on cultural appropriation. Except that Mohammed et al. were too dim to get the stories straight in making up the cult/religion/excuse for conquest. Most of what they stole from Judaism and Christianity they got wrong.
