"It took some nerve to do what I did at the time, and in fact, I worried a lot and encountered some opposition and threats. It is a great relief to be retired. Would it be worse now? I got out just before the Trump administration began, so I didn't get to see how that affected people."

I appreciate your candor. The above made me cry a bit for you. I am not yet done in Academia but will try to be strong to your example.

I finished Billions. I was a little disappointed with the series finale. These shows go through all the twists and turns to set up for the next season, and when there is no next season the denouement is rushed and the end is disappointing.

Now I find out there is already another season out and one planned after that. I am not sure how I feel about that. Maybe it would be nice not to feel obligated to watch the series anymore.

Billions gave us one of the first non-binary characters on television. It was strange just four or five years ago to hear one character referred to as "them" or "they." Now I suppose all that is to be expected.

Spencer, the Diana film, was very good. It's a fantasy and makes no pretense of being literally true. There was the obligatory LGBTQ+ subtheme, It didn't seem out of place or inappropriate, but the mandatory nature of such material does grate a little.

The Optimists is the Russian Mad Men. It even starts in 1960, like Mad Men, but it's about a division of the USSR's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, rather than about an ad agency. As with the American series, the recreation of the Sixties is brilliant, but as with Mad Men that can distract from some problems -- sloppy plotting in the American series, and thorny political questions in the Russian one.

I see the Archbishop is refusing Pelosi Communion because of her hard line abortion support. I thought that might happen. There's a difference between going along and advocating. In a pluralistic democracy you sometimes have to go along with abortion laws you don't accept but you never have to advocate for more abortion. In fact as a Catholic you can't advocate for more abortion but advocating is exactly what Pelosi is doing. The Supreme Court is resetting the condition of law on abortion in this country. We can't abolish it yet because people don't understand yet what it really is. But enough people get why third trimester on demand is bad so that we could cut back there. But Pelosi isn't trying to cut back on abortion in line with the majority understanding. She's leading the charge for keeping abortion on demand up till birth. So now she's in trouble with the Church which she will dump in order not to be in trouble with the left. The left is what she believes in. She hasn't been a Catholic for a long time. Biden will soon be in the same trouble for the same reason.

Is Karine Jean-Pierre being eased out? Pentagon spokespronoun John Kirby is being moved to the White House communication team. An old white guy replacing a young minority immigrant? Ouch.

Something tells me that Robby Mook, John Podesta and Jake Sullivan are going to be on the Sussman witness stand very soon. James Baker has some splainin' to do.
There just ain't enough popcorn.

The Sussman jury is composed of the DC branch of the DNC. They will make the OJ jury look non-partisan. There is zero chance of a conviction.
