I'm seeing various reports that Charlie Rose is poking up again, but nothing about anything worthwhile he might be saying.

"Disgraced journalist Charlie Rose is back conducting interviews — but this time it’s for his own website," The L.A. Times informs us.
“I’m proud to share this recent conversation with Warren Buffett,” the 80-year-old newsman wrote on his website. “It is his first interview on camera in almost a year, and the first I’ve done in more than 4 years. It is a step in a journey to engage the most interesting people and explore the most compelling ideas in the world.”

Rose is 80. That's 11 years younger than Buffett, but still, why not keep to your private life? Yes, the world has its "most compelling ideas" that could be "explored" and "most interesting people" to be "engaged," but you're not giving off the slightest ray of hope that you're the man to do it. You were disgraced, and we'd pretty much forgotten about you.

The article has nothing about the substantive content of that interview, which you can watch, here, at Rose's website. I'm certainly not recommending it.

Now, now, were you having some snarky fun by using the expression "poking up again" when it came to Charlie Rose's reappearance. If so, I enjoyed the playfulness.

"Poking up"?

I have not forgotten about Charlie Rose. I watched his program on PBS for twenty-five years before going to bed. It was a unique program that did long form interviews with interesting people across the political and cultural spectrum. While some podcasts have partially filled the hole that it’s ending created, really nothing has replaced it.

The oncoming generations don’t have any appreciation for the fundamentals of western civilization.

One of the more interesting attempted resurrections is that of Dan Rather, who got exposed yet still pops up from time to time intoning about saving serious journalism.

Every time I see his face I chuckle at an old disgraced man desperately trying to appear relevant.

This post deserves the “gerontocracy” tag.

I’m really surprised Warren would do this interview.

I nearly ran into Rose at the BRK meeting about 30 years ago. The meeting was at the old Aksarben Hall and it was dark on the floor. The meeting didn’t get to be really big until it moved to the new basketball arena.

"Poking up?" Interesting choice of words considering Charlie's history.

Charlie Rose - to be an official Has Been, don't you have to have been a Once Were?

If a person speaks in a forest and no one hears them, do they make a sound?

Legacy celebrities such as Charlie Rose would not have a voice if not for making it during the pre-social media era. Let all compete for eyeballs today, and feel free to ignore them.

"we'd pretty much forgotten about you" Completely. I had to google to see why he was disgraced, though of course the default #meToo guess was correct.

Maybe Charlie can catch on with CNN +.

I was drinking my morning coffee when I read the headline here. Poking up?

Bad Althouse. I had a Mohs done on my nose two weeks ago, and the coffee went right where you would expect it to go. Ow.

I don't get this need to be in the limelight forever. What benefit is there to try to maintain a position (Feinstein) or regain a position (Rose) that you have done for many years?
Especially when you have so much money that you could choose anything else to do or explore? I have zero interest in a Charlie Rose interview with anyone. If he had become an expert carver or learned how to do bird calls of the Rockies in the last four years, I might check it out.

One supposes that's it's been tough at home for Charlie these last few years ...

I admire his effort. He worked hard to get to the level of achievement he attained. Where is it written that he must stay hidden for the rest of his life? Let him who is without sin cast the first self-righteous sneer.

What happened to your #gerontocracy tag (and isn't there one for perverts too?)?

80 y/o charlie rose, Good God. Just shut up and go away. I found Rose a mixed bag, he was sychopantic toward those with Elite status (tell me more Dr. Kissinger), but with others he just would not shut up and let the Guest talk.

His most annoying trait was to ask a question and then in the middle of the response, ask another question on another topic. Or interject his irrelevant, usually ignorant, opinion.

The Deep State/Establishment went off the rails when they stopped getting daily briefings from Charlie.

I'm glad though that he's had time to work on his hair. Hopefully he will be presentable when he and Little Charlie poke up again.

Kai is right. Ambition is hard to turn off. Living life isn't determined by how many times you get knocked down, just that you keep getting up.

I'm guessing 100mg of Viagra minimum for the "Poking Up".

Sneer, cast. I'll glory in his downfall as I did with all of the Democrats and their professional entertainment mavens who were found to be philanderers, rapists, gropers, and all-around vile people. Let's keep in mind whom Ed Buck, Jeffrey Epstein, Harvey Weinstein, Jeff Zucker, etc. supported with their money and their vulgar lifestyles.

Much like how Rose’s hand made the journey south to open his bathrobe and choke his wrinkled, old chicken. Fuck right off, Charlie.

Heh… what’s that sick SOB Gary Mohs up to now!

Can't you just be happy he said something that wasn't an insult?

Buffet should be canceled for talking to his hack.

William म्हणाले...

I have some sympathy for Charlie. In his youth, he was good looking and personable. He probably found it effortless to score. Women wanted to get to know him better and what better way than with sex. Then, when he got older, he became a big deal. There was probably a moment of overlap when he was still somewhat physically attractive but also his fame and fortune made up for whatever he lost in physical magnetism and women still wanted to get to know him better. Then he was a wrinkly old man but still a big deal with subordinates whose job was to re-affirm his charm and importance. How was he to figure out that the jig was up? For centuries-- millennia actually-- that's the way the system worked. He thought that his laurels earned him a bit of droit du seigneur in his later years. Early though the laurel grows, it withers quicker than the Rose.

C’mon, Chris Lopes, the guy is a festering boil on any given day. And besides, even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while.

Ha!
