"A woman called to report she and her fiance were 'having a little dispute about helping each other.'... Three to four dirty mattresses were spotted on the side of a road in Martin City.... A man’s friend might not be so friendly after all when they allegedly pawned a TV he left at their house.... A man was allegedly on the side of a road in Columbia Falls flailing his arms, yelling at cars and acting like he was going to 'jump into traffic.'"

And you wonder why cops burn out? When in the course of their day do they ever see people at anything better than their worst?
Yeah, sure, the lockdowns didn't affect people's mental health.
Heh... the best news is always the local news
You should not call 911 for things like this.
Call the Juice Patrol Unit directly.
News of the Weird is similar to this site ... but more weird. Includes more than the police blotter. Has been published for decades.
For this kind of article, there is no paywall.
A tad-bit different than the law Althouse covers.
I would've expected a lot more homicides but then I've been watching Yellowstone...
The sheriff/police departments here in Flathead County and Kalispell are generally very accommodating. They deal with an endless variety of demands, concerns and complaints that law enforcement in other locations might simply disregard. Even before the influx of "transplants" from the east and west coasts who've brought with them their suburban concerns ("there's a deer in my yard!" - "my neighbor has 8 old cars in his back yard!"), law enforcement had to deal with the the multi-generation locals (who are often armed) and their various issues like the woman on the couch. Rural and semi-urban policing requires experience, good judgment/negotiation skills and super-calm demeanor.
Sounds quite like Nevada County, CA. Though we also get a lot of complaints from people who have left their cannabis outdoors on their porch, only to have it stolen. And more bear problems.
Sounds like a typical week for Andy and Barney.
You have to have a lot of juice to get that kind of service.
Our local weekly in Rabun County, GA, gives that section of the paper the traditional name, "Police Blotter." If you get arrested, you get your name in the paper; otherwise, it's written up an an anonymous "incident." Lots of Fentanyl and meth gets mentioned in the reports filed by the sheriff's deputies. No mentions lately of any unusual-looking banjo-playing boy banjo-dueling it out with Hollywood actors along the road to the Chattooga River; that was 50 years ago. Things may have gone down hill since then.
Professor Althouse didn't mention This one (i think It's The Most Best)
Someone calling from Kalispell asked dispatchers when the Whitefish Winter Carnival was and what kinds of activities were going on. Dispatchers looked up the schedule online for the caller.
Your tax money at work! Yea! Whitefish Winter Carnival!!
I wanna Go!
Their motto is Serve and Protect.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle was once legendary for its Police Reports column. My favorite, “Someone called to report a loud thumping noise coming from the apartment next door. Upon investigation the loud thumping noise was found to be more humping in nature.”
My mortgage company is located in Kalispell.
Was it apple justice, or orange juice?
It really sucks when your crimewave stats consist of moronic antics and lazy fucks looking for free room service at the taxpayer's expense.
Obviously, Flathead County needs some elite crime to avoid the Althouse Hall of Shame. Maybe the Biden Admin will give them a HUD project so the homies can shoot it up Chicago-style. But Montana is bluish so there's little chance of that.
Flathead has a lot of undeveloped real estate. They could set aside ten square miles of it for an alfresco druggie encampment. (It will be smaller than Seattle's tent cities in aggregate area, but being all in one big tract it will be more visually impressive.) That's sure to give the deputies some exciting moments to remember -- assuming they can stand the smell.
@Althouse, you and Dave Barry linked to the same article in your respective blogs. I don’t know that this is so bad, but don’t try to compete with him on fart jokes, please.
You don't know the half of it, public wanting you to help them cook a roast, saw a bear and now thinks its stalking them, home invasion that are deer in the yard, wanting tax help, program the tv remote control , my Gabapentin was stolen again this week, I need someone to raise my kid, is sure a pile of sticks in the woods are ancient native arrows and wants the state called, deer bones that they are sure are the scene of a murder, drunk that when mad likes to take a 30-06 and shoot the chimney's off of houses (while naked) , and many more, I'm seriously thinking of starting a podcast where i invite officers to regale us with the strangest 911 calls .
“The sheriff/police departments here in Flathead County and Kalispell are generally very accommodating.”
We live not quite 2 hours SW of you (for the 6 months a year we aren’t in PHX) which really is small town. As with your area, most everyone owns guns, and truck guns are expected. Our local Justice of the Peace runs a pretty good shooting school in his spare time, which means that most of those working in the courthouse have CCW permits.
I do like Kallispell/White Fish. Keep trying to get my partner to move up there. But her ex has a farm 5 miles down river from us, and there are perks to that, like knowing the provenance of the beef and pork you eat. He does a deal with the guy who helps him harvest his hay and alfalfa that includes both, hand fed, on his farm a couple miles further west. She is nearing 40 years summering there.
We get out of town pretty much every other week and one of our favorite places to stay is Kallispell, but after sometime in June, hotel prices start to get ridiculous. Still, plan to get there a couple times in May/June, so maybe we can set up an Althouse get together then.
One nice thing about that part of MT (besides the view in Glacier) are the guns. In particular, that is where I bought my 10 mm G20. Hard to find outside W MT. They had several in the store in Kallispell where I bought mine. Ditto for the solid cast bear ammo.
Learned to snort tequila in the Great Northern bar in Whitefish.

The dimensions of a grave (3 feet wide, 7 feet long, and 77 inches deep) - but Donald Trump will need a bigger hole.
"@Althouse, you and Dave Barry linked to the same article in your respective blogs."
My post is over an hour before his, so it anybody's mooching from another blogger and not giving credit, it's not me.
And I've used that particular website for years, ever since I encountered it while staying in Kalispel and read the paper newspaper there, so seriously... when I quote from that, just leave Dave Barry out of it. My use of it goes back to August 2012.
Kalispell
Someone's a little touchy today. Maybe she didn't eat her Wheaties.
Or maybe he follows Althouse too. All sorts of people have done so, including the guy with her birthday - the late great Rush Limbaugh. I think that many of us here really do take her, and her view of life, for granted.
@Althouse, please don’t be so touchy. I really don’t care whether he plagiarized from you or you plagiarized from him or the two of you independently posted the same link (which seems most likely). If multiple bloggers couldn’t link to the same item then it would mean the end of blogging, wouldn’t it?
Just no fart jokes, okay?
