Commentary and context: "Whomever [sic] is bringing a cat into this is a horrible human and should be arrested and charged with animal cruelty"/"Sad thing about this, no matter what, there will be some people out there that will say this was just all a setup for a photo-op. It was placed there so this 'miraculous' thing happened today and in what better venue. God Bless America #NeverForget911 #NeverForget"/"There was other footage of the cat hanging from the balcony. People were reaching to try to grab him/her before it fell."They caught a cat in an American flag on 9/11 and it’s incredible pic.twitter.com/8aff1SNpy2

When I watched different video of this on the local news this morning (waiting for the weather to come on) I couldn't help but wonder if the cat was more traumatized by the rough handling and loud noise than he would have been if he's just fallen in an empty stadium.
The cat probably would've survived it fine, unless it landed on a less than flat surface, like a stadium seat.
And whoever thinks that someone brought this cat to the game is beyond remedial help. Animals wander into stadiums not infrequently, sometimes going onto the field.
I saw it and my initial thought was, "Hmm...Florida". I live here. I see things everyday I did not see anywhere else. (Hence the legends of Florida Man and Florida Woman).
I think Florida Cat was one we didn't see coming.
I know there are a lot of people that hate the flag so much they just can't get past it. They need to leave the country.
I didn't go to the football game. Large crowds of people and noise everywhere has never been my thing.
But if I had I would have chanted "Fuck Joe Biden" in between plays with the rest of the crowd.
I’d give the cat some agency in this.
Whoever made that comment is unlikely have spent much time around cats. They sneak their way into all sorts places, so a stadium is not odd. I've personally seen a cat tearing all over a baseball field. They get in when it's empty and freak out when it's full of people. Most cats can survive on stadium birds, of which there are plenty. Most cats can also survive a 50-foot drop just fine, in part because their bones are held together by muscles rather than ligaments.
The commenter assumes it was a set-up. Is there any evidence of that? It could be a feral cat who lived in the stadium and then when it mysteriously filled-up with tens of thousands of scary humans, the cat retreated as far as possible. Which turned out to be a good place to have a fall.
Stadium cat, hanging around for food on game day. Probably feral.
Stadium cat, that knows game days and craves stadium food during home stand, after days of rodents and bugs.
Animal Cruelty - straight up.
More likely rather than someone bringing the animal to a game, the cat was probably feral. Before demolition in 2002, Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia was notorious for the army of feral cats (coming for the rats) living in the nooks and crannies of the ballpark.
I, for one, see the post-catch cat handoffs as the best part of the show. The cat scratched, bit and clawed several people before the clip ended. Well done, cat.
Does anyone still have one of those "Hang in there, Baby!" signs?
There's history here...
Yes, There Are Cats In the Roman Coliseum And They Live There
In The Way of the Dragon, Bruce Lee faces off against Chuck Norris in a feral cat-filled Roman Coliseum.
FOUND: The original audition tape for the role of gung fu cat & witness to the epic fight at The Coliseum between Bruce & Chuck in The Way of The Dragon.

: )
I've seen cats fall from more or less the same height and survive just fine. it helps to have a flexible spine and four legs to cushion the impact.
Worked briefly in Turner stadium and still regret not accepting a job managing food service employees there. It would mean working for major league baseball, but the pay still sucked, and I felt I would be betraying the Mets to work for the Braves. Don’t even ask me how I feel about this year.
Cats love the smell of hot dog water. Lots of feral cats around that stadium, which is no longer The Ted.
No, hot dog water isn’t replaced as much as one might imagine, or wish.
Cats aren’t as smart as they look, but they can still figure out where the hot dog water lives.
Ditto possums, and, especially, rats. Only one of these three are deterred by shouting crowds.
It's a stray cat- you can find them in the strangest places.
We have lots of feral cats at the theme park I work at. It's impossible to keep them out and there is a lot scrap food for them to feed on. Also, they help to keep the rat population down. We actually have a feral cat program where the cats are trapped, tagged and taken to the vet for evaluation and treatment. They are also spayed or neutered.
Trying to think of something witty to say about 'falling' and 'pussies.'
I got nothin'.
why was cat dangling? because cruel human was dangling cat. cats don't dangle like that.
good grief.
And the phonecams' red glare, a cat's flying through air
gave proof through the game that our flag was still there
loudogblog,
Yes, that is the usual approach to feral cat colonies -- by people with sense, I mean. Tag/microchip the cats, spay/neuter them, give them a veterinary look-see, and then let them go. They'll survive so long as their numbers don't increase out of all control.
One of our cats came from a feral cat colony in MD; my mom (for whatever reason) held onto the kitten, and he was perhaps a year old when I came to visit. After a few days I was begging her to send him back with me. He didn't travel on the same flight, but was shipped separately to PDX. Been here ever since.

OMG...I'm a cat!!!
Cats don't usually get into situations like that -- not unless they are hunting something or being hunted by something. I suspect human mischief.
One of those Coliseum cats fell from a similar height and survived. "Are you not entertained?" he shouted at the cheering onlookers before running off.
