"Speaker Nancy Pelosi stunned the GOP on Wednesday by vetoing two of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's choices for a select panel investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack..."

"... a move all but guaranteed to spark a Republican boycott of the probe. Pelosi rejected Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), who was tapped to serve as ranking member, and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), both of whom voted to challenge certification of President Joe Biden’s electoral wins earlier this year. Her decision sent shock waves through the House and is likely to galvanize House Republicans against any participation in the investigation.... McCarthy issued a scorching reply that made clear he would yank his other three picks if the speaker didn't walk back her veto of Banks and Jordan, a move she's highly unlikely to make."

"It is the logical thing for her to do. Republicans know there was no attempt at insurrection. The Democrats know there was no attempt at insurrection. The Justice Department knows there was no attempt at insurrection. The American People with half a brain know there was no attempt at insurrection.

"So how does a politician make lemon juice out of those lemons? She forces the Republicans to boycott the proceedings to use as fodder for her base as proof that the Republicans are in support of the attempted insurrection, after all, why are they afraid of getting to the truth?"

Robert writes to quote Liz Cheney: " I want to take a minute to talk about the appointments to the January 6th Select Committee. The rhetoric that we have heard from the Minority Leader is disingenuous. The attack on this building on January 6th was the worst attack on this Capitol since 1814. It was an attack on our Constitution. We supported what would have been the very best option, which was a bipartisan independent commission. The Minority Leader opposed that, he lobbied against it in the Senate, and the Senate blocked it. The American people deserve to know what happened, the people who did this must be held accountable. There must be an investigation that is nonpartisan, that is sober, that is serious, that gets to the facts wherever they may lead. And at every opportunity, the Minority Leader has attempted to prevent the American people from understanding what happened – to block this investigation. Today, the Speaker objected to two Republican members. She accepted three others. She objected to two, one of whom may well be a material witness to events that led to that day – that led to January 6th. The other, who disqualified himself by his comments in particular over the last 24 hours demonstrating that he is not taking this seriously. He is not dealing with the facts of this investigation, but rather viewed it as a political platform. This investigation must go forward. The idea that anybody would be playing politics with an attack on the United States Capitol is despicable and is disgraceful, and I am absolutely dedicated and committed to making sure that this investigation holds those accountable who did this and ensures that it never happens again. And the American people deserve that, and that is what we are going to do."

"According to the linked article, the decision to exclude 2 GOP nominees was made by other Democrats, to whom the Speaker deferred. To them, it was clear that Banks and Jordan did not plan to participate in good faith, so what was the point in including them? It was always known that the Minority Leader did not have an absolute right to select whomever he wanted. He apparently wanted to see what he could get away with. Once the independent commission was nixed, it was pretty clear that the committee route would devolve into trench warfare."

:Interesting take by Washington Blogger, but it wasn’t the GOP that kicked anyone off anything here. Who wants a kangaroo court? This is not a strong move—it fairly shouts that the Dems don’t want anyone asking tough questions. They want a show trial.

"As to Cheney, at this point, how is she not a Quisling? There has to be a place out there where people like Cheney, Max Boot, Billy Kristol, David French, Charlie Sykes, etc. get together and tell each other lies about how principled they are. But they don’t look principled. They are propping up Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi. They are in bed with those creeps at the Lincoln Project.

"They look stupid."

Lee makes an excellent point:

"For reasons non unadjacent to Washington Blogger's comments, I have limited interest in the particular 6 Jan Committee itself.

"Of more lasting interest is that Nancy Pelosi has now established, a la Harry Reid nuclear option, the precedent that The Speaker gets to veto Minority members of House Committees, rather than leave Minority representation to the Minority Leader. Once out, this toothpaste is not going back in the tube.

"eg Adam Schiff's days on the House Intelligence Committee are numbered to the day on which the GOP next acquires the majority. Howd'ya like them apples ?"
