Lloyd writes:

There's a pretty good movie with Cary Grant: "Once Upon a Time" (1944). Grant is a theatrical producer, desperate for a new show. He finds a 9-year-old boy, "Pinky," who has a dancing caterpillar. He befriends the boy, and then spoils the friendship by insisting that the caterpillar belongs in show business. There is real desperation here, real anger, and a kind of aggression on a child. In the end their disagreement is so to speak moot because the caterpillar transforms itself and flies away, beautifully.

Of course there is a romance between Grant's character and "Pinky's" sister, played by Janet Blair.

Here is a shot of the three of them watching out the window to say goodbye to their butterfly friend.
