Former President Trump is releasing statements that read like tweets on letterhead. pic.twitter.com/bGJaaRvPzf

But this way, you, the NYT reporter who passes it on, are the one who gets retweeted, so that's a nice incentive for you to become the channel through which Trump gets back on Twitter. We'll see how well that works.
Compare the same reporter's tweet with a statement from Joe Biden that's been up for almost 5 hours longer:
Meanwhile, as you think about the importance of Twitter, take this into account: "Parler Blocked on Apple's App Store After Capitol Riot Review."Pres Biden on COVID bill passing: "For weeks now, an overwhelming percentage of Americans – Democrats, Independents, and Republicans – have made it clear they support the American Rescue Plan. Today, with final passage in the House of Representatives, their voice has been heard." pic.twitter.com/qVd8nT2Ffy

The most interesting man in the world...
And from the reporting I read, much more organizing was done on Facebook.
When will Apple pull that app?
"An overwhelming percentage..."
How large does a percentage have to be before it's "overwhelming"? 10%? 20%?
Weasel words. Pretty obviously Biden's handlers realized they couldn't say "overwhelming majority", because it isn't true.
So this blog post is also a quasi-retweet.
Twitter is for geeks and pedophiles.
I miss him.....
Sigh...
Supporting California's underwater generous pension plans was on everybody's wish list.
They are claiming 70% support for this bill and if it were just the $500 billion for checks for most people and the extension and enhancement of unemployment benefits that's probably true. Wiping out NYS's deficit, bailing out multi-employer pension funds, giving money to mass transit in California, bailing out Chicago's pension plans and bringing back welfare without work not so much.
"Twitter is for geeks and pedophiles."
And COVID vaccine alarmists, too.
If you are young, getting a stimulus check of $1400 means simultaneously acquiring a debt of $1600. If you're old, getting a stimulus check of $1400 means Medicare goes bankrupt in 2026, Social Security in 2034.
is that eric feig ling, who sends his kids to school in austria, while pushing the lockdown at home,
Even this message made me laugh.
I want him back.
Wildswan, sorry to nitpick, but social security is not currently solvent, and has never been solvent it its history. A pile of IOUs from the biggest debtor in history is not the same thing as having a trust fund.
My understanding is that Facebook was used far more than Parler.
The bill passed is properly titled "The Mini-Covid Relief and Democrat Party Apparatchik Maxi-Bailout Bill."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Danke Schoen!
That last link belongs in the other thread
That gas bag Yamiche works for PBS, not the NYT.
Both actually
Yes Leora, you have it right: this bill will mean the end of any kind of fiscal responsibility in California, Illinois, New York... Expect a push for even more massive government pension sweeteners in those states. Restraint is gone, and rewarding profligacy will increase the demand for it. How a disease ended up rewarding government employees will be one of the great mysteries of our time.
Collusive restraint of trade.
Nationalize. Apple, AWS, Google, Facebook, Twitter.

Nor can it ever be either solvent or insolvent. Any more than the army can be solvent or insolvent.
SS is a pure welfare scheme, just like food stamps, afdc wic or any other federal welfare program.
There is no connection between the payroll tax and ss payments. Nor can there be.
Govt has the constitutional power to tax. It has the constitutional power to provide welfare.
This is how ss was structured to get around the constitutional prohibition on any kind of mandated insurance /retirement scheme.
There is a page on the ss website that explains how Frances Perkins and justice stone came up with a way to get around the constitution.
https://www.ssa.gov/history/tea.htm
Get over the idea that ss payments are not pure welfare/charity. They are.
John Henry
And ss is not an iou. Congress could halve or even stop the payments tomorrow.
Or they could decide that a certain amount of wealth or retirement income disqualifies one from receiving payments.
Or raise the age to 80.
There is no ongoing obligation to pay anyone a nickle. Just whatever congress decides to mandate this year
And leave the payroll tax unchanged.
Speaking legally and constitutionally. There would probably be a political price to pay.
John Henry
"For weeks now, an overwhelming percentage of Americans – Democrats, Independents, and Republicans – have made it clear they support the American Rescue Plan."
Does the overwhelming percentage of Americans know the top 5 items in the plan? Does the overwhelming percentage of Americans know the plan is not about "rescue"? Does the overwhelming percentage of Americans know how they and their children will pay for it?
Only good thing about this POS disgusting disaster garbage bill is we will pay the fed tax we owe with our refund thanks to being able to work all year due to my President Donald J Trump.
I hear Joe is going on a two week tour touting this insanity LOL!
I don’t understand the topic. One is a press release that is short and pithy like a tweet. The other is a normal-looking press release. What is the intended message behind the prof’s pairing them like this?
How a disease ended up rewarding government employees will be one of the great mysteries of our time.
Because it was planned this way??...Cloward and Piven strategy in action....

True and not true. There is currently no connection between payroll tax and SS payments. But the system could be made to have such a connection. Congress by law could reconstitute the program such that there is some proportional scheme for how to divvy-up the cash flow amongst the eligible recipients and they could by law, limit the outflow to the inflow.
What is the intended message behind the prof’s pairing them like this?
I think the attention each gets. Look at the likes and number of comments for each. It's rewarding to anyone who posts Trump's messages. They get views and shares.
At least the Biden tweet can't get negative votes the way all the WH videos do on YouTube. They all seem to have three to four times the number of down votes compared to up votes. Not that they're getting that many views in the first place.
