How does liberal media justify its failure to question the Lincoln Project and to discover the rot within?

I'm reading "When You Don’t Have Trump to Hide Behind/There’s now space for other scandals. Witness the Lincoln Project" by Frank Bruni (NYT).

Ha! It's Trump's fault! Trump was so bad that the media couldn't pay any attention to anything else that might have been bad. That is some ripe bullshit from Frank Bruni. Let's read:
[T]he Lincoln Project is unraveling... because Trump is out of office, and that not only deprives the organization of its fiercest mission and tight focus. His departure also opens the political actors there — and political actors everywhere — to more scrutiny and more reproach than they received when he was still around.
Trump urgently demanded and rightly sopped up so much of the public’s contempt and the media’s attention that there was limited space left over for other scandals.

How were we the people supposed to pay attention to things that you the press didn't put into articles? The press "urgently demanded" that we the people remain in a state of continuous contempt for Trump and deprived us of anything that might have worked in Trump's favor. We had space in our head! But you the press wanted to inflate contempt for Trump so that it filled up our entire headspace.

In that way he was like a concealer slathered over pox and warts beyond his own.

So Trump covered up the ugliness of the Lincoln Project?! No, the Lincoln Project was making Trump look ugly. If we're doing makeup metaphor, it's more like the Lincoln Project was effective in depriving Trump of some concealer he wanted to use on himself, and the press was so into exclaiming over how bad Trump looked that it didn't want to talk about how bad the Lincoln Project looked. And now Frank Bruni doesn't want to talk about how bad the press looks.

He was also in instances a get-out-of-jail-free card. If you raged against him, your past was wiped clean.

What a ludicrous reversion to the passive voice! The press gave the Lincoln Project the get-out-of-jail-free card. The press wiped the Lincoln Project clean.

Your own preening and avarice were laundered by your denunciations of his [sic]....

More passive voice. More metaphor. We've got makeup, Monopoly, filth-wiping, and laundry.  Take responsibility! When it comes to the Lincoln Project, the press massively failed. And the attempt to hide behind Trump is pathetic. The press was political and unprofessional.

You want us to trust you because now that Trump is sidelined you can pay attention to other things? That's just admitting you follow a political agenda. The agenda has changed, but you haven't shown any interest in changing toward devotion to principles of journalism. You haven't shown any new propensity to go wherever the facts take you.

It’s a predictable reaction when another liberal Washington insider is outed as a sexual harasser and a kiddie diddler. They are all over. Everyone knew about John Weaver’s thirst for young men. Karl Rove is on record referring to it years ago. But it’s the “pizza-gate” people who are crazy.

"And now Frank Bruni doesn't want to talk about how bad the press looks."

Because he doesn't think the press looks bad. It does what it has to do: prep the battle space for progs. Before the election, that meant propping up the LP, afterwards tear them down as useless POS.

"Take responsibility!"

Next, you're gonna talk about journalistic "principles," and how the press should be better. Please, no.

"The press was political and unprofessional.

Say it ain't so!

"You want us to trust you"

They want progs to trust them to promote the narrative and serve the cause. That's all.

Was this all permissible because Thomas, Trump and Kavanaugh are conservative? It sure was!

In all seriousness, I don't know how an intellectually honest person can be a Democrat today. They are such hypocrites. For them, the ends always justify the means. A perfect example are the blackouts in NE and TX. It is okay for some people to die because it serves the larger purpose of stopping global warming and saving the planet.

Why does the mainstream media protect sexual predators when it's going on?

I mean, if rhhardin is right about the media playing to soap opera women, I would think that women would be most eager to read about sexual abuse in so far as it involved women. The problem, as I see it, is an overly voracious appetite for the such stories, and a willingness to believe even the most scurrilous claims. Witness the #metoo movement which really started the whole cancel culture. The media could help here by investigating the important stories, rather then just letting Twitter decide.

I don't know what you read but I wrote on this site within a day the deaths were the Sicknick, Babbit, two medicals and a trampling. The only one not consistently understood is Sicknick which at that time was still attributed to the fire extinguisher. The confusion is because of the high-media rather than despite it.

There has also been at least one and maybe two cop suicides since but it's unclear if they are related. Since reporting on these has ended the most logical conclusion is that reporters were unable to establish even a tenuous link to the riot.

Or, more to the point, restaurants and show biz have been ruined and this affected powerful people. Karl Rove brought up John Weaver allegations in 2004, but the Atlantic shot him down and dismissed it as a lie...https://twitter.com/LevineJonathan/status/1355966939286413318

The NYT/WaPo has been lying about Trump for 5 years. They will continue to lie and suppress any news that's positive for him. And idiots wonder why Trump was always on twitter and seemed so "over the top". Hello? He was the only one fighting for Trump against the constant media lies. Trump was almost the only one pushing back. Mitch the bitch and his gang weren't interested in helping him, and neither was Ryan or the McCarthy.

rcocean म्हणाले...

George Conway has risen slightly in my estimation. I thought he was a complete clown, but now he's calling for the LP to come clean, release everyone from their NDA, and have an investigation. Surprising.

Rove was the bannon then, designated hate object less principled though

Outside of sports reporting, and announcing show times, there’s been little or no honest reporting by the news media in general and the Times and Post in particular, since sometime in the 1990s. Only took a couple decades for our hostess to notice. Or would you even notice now, Althouse, if people like Bruni weren’t admitting it in Dick Nixon “modified, limited, hang out” style?

Because his meal ticket is shot, we need to know all his communiications with this rat weaver. Theres a parallel hear with one of the huntress's most vile detractors up above the 48, he still has a blog.

Loeffler was one of them too. That’s why the R lost Georgia.

Her husband owns the New York Stock Exchange, and she got away with insider trading. (as did David Purdue). They don't represent the majority of us. I know Nancy and all the others in Congress used insider trading to get rich too, but it doesn't make it right.

By her own claim, she has noticed all along. It's just never mattered enough to do anything about it, except occasionally admit it's happening, and say it's such a shame.

Here's another scandal the media covered up:

Now do Obama and his little coke fueled affair with Larry Sinclair, or ask what happened to the three murdered gay men who were associated with Obama through his Church with the Racist Reverend Wright. Is this how that game is played, because I can play some more!!!

Why do we think that the press, having brought down Trump and now pivoting to take down other Republicans, is particularly surprising or worthy of admiration? If they took a sudden interest in the misdeeds of DEMOCRATS, that would be something, but shifting fire to a different set of Republicans? Total dog bites man story.

First, Larry Sinclair is a stupid liar. During the 2008 presidential campaign, in a short youtube video, Mr. Sinclair claimed that he and Obama had engaged in gay sex and drug use one night in a limousine during Obama’s tenure as an Illinois state senator. This would be hilarious if true. But Mr. Sinclair bombed a polygraph exam. Big surprise.

Second, the gay bashing is part of the Republican tradition of macho posturing against Democrats. But guess what? Your hero, Donald Trump, is a p*ssy. He caved in on the Wall. He caved in on every trade deal. He didn't even have the courage to attend the Biden inauguration. Trump is a wimp and a loser. He's not much a man. Maybe he's more like a whiny, emotionally incapable child.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

@Gahrie, but the writing was so good! You say she noticed all along that it was bullshit, but in her mind it was good, well-written bullshit.

And it didn’t force her to confront her prejudices.

Achilles,

What false flag am I hoisting? I live here. I have been observing the Georgia political scene pretty much all my adult life. I know who the actors are. You don’t.

I saw personally the horror that was the Georgia primary election. Walked right in on it. I was threatened and somebody tried to physically attack me. I reported it as it was happening to the Georgia Republican Party and they did nothing. And one last time, I have a recording. I guess you’re one a them “conservatives”. Heh.

Obvious troll false flag.

Oh, and I sent that recording to the Georgia Republican

Add Weiner's laptop to that- and it's been around longer with no action taken or information released. Remarkable lack of curiosity on the part of the MSM which says it wants us all to be infoemed.

Of course Conway is distancing himself from the Project. He doesn't want to get dragged down with the rest of them. Not sure there's anything more to it that that.

Of course Larry Sinclair is lying. Theft, fraud and forgery charges and a related conviction and prison sentence make it extremely likely anyway.

Good analysis of Bruni. The idea that Trump was such an existential transcendental threat that all criticism of anti-Trump forces was impossible is just an excuse for lazy and biased (lack of) reporting.

You can read Friedman's column at the Deccan Herald without registering with the Times. It's the same BS from Friedman. Maybe Biden's immigration policy will mean that he will be replaced by some ambitious newcomer.

When Bruno was a food critic for the Times, their radio station had him do a weekly commentary on the restaurant scene. One time he went on a nonsensical rant about how there shouldn’t be outdoor cafes in the US because it should stay a European thing. He was pissed to see middle class Americans enjoying something that until recently only rich Americans experienced. Both he and the Times’s theater critic, Frank Rich, got to move up as political opinion writers not because they had any background in it but because they were proven masters at being mean-spirited snobs.
