"Heading into the 2020 election, most of the U.S. media was uninterested in, if not outright hostile to, any reporting that might have helped President Trump’s re-election bid."

"As a result, the Lincoln Project continued to enjoy media veneration even as the magnitude of its scam became increasingly obvious. But with Trump now safely vanquished, the Lincoln Project is dispensable, and the protective shield it enjoyed against any real journalistic scrutiny is — like its reputation and prospects for future profiteering — rapidly crumbling.... From the start, it was obvious that this disgraceful collapse was the inevitable end for this group. The very idea that this freakish hodgepodge of life-long D.C. Republican consultants were men of profound conscience defending the Republic was a complete and total joke. They are life-long grifters, responsible for some of the most grotesque and amoral attack ads in the modern era, with a very long and recent history of advocating the exact opposite values of what they claimed to represent once they opportunistically identified the optimal Trump-era profit model: namely, relentlessly fleece scared and gullible #Resistance liberals of their cash by posturing as brave and principled warriors against Trumpism. But their lucrative scheme could never have succeeded without the knowingly fraudulent cooperation of liberal networks such as MSNBC and CNN. Over and over, those Democratic Party spokespeople masquerading as TV journalists — knowing exactly who these bottom-feeding GOP operatives have always been — encouraged their misguided and trusting viewers to regard the Lincoln Project as a selfless and noble bulwark against Trumpism rather than the scamming, grifting, lowlife con it so obviously was from the start."

When the Lincoln Project appeared on the scene, a former co-worker (smart guy, aerospace engineer, self-identified Republican) asked me about them. I told him exactly what Glenn Greenwald said - it was group of grifter consultants that found themselves on the "outs" once Trump was elected. No more ability to get someone a job; no more big money coming their way; they couldn't even count on Congress critters and PACS to funnel money their way since they had been so vocal in their hatred of Trump.

My friend listened, but he was absolutely smitten with their marketing prose and so he "joined" and sent in money.

Haven't asked him how he feels about LP lately.

What IS unfortunate, and DOES weaken us, is that the Left are uniformly lying sacks of shit, utterly amoral creatures who have nothing but a lust for power and self agrandization

As such, no institution that they dominate will ever be trusted, because by their nature they can not be trusted.

This will continue until the Left is destroyed.

I've been delighted with the work of the Lincoln Project. The product was great. The result was good, at least. And of course the essential goal was defeating Trump and it was accomplished.

And Glenn; you seem to be complaining about how the Lincoln Project operated. I didn't see you point to any specific falsehoods in the messaging about Trump.

What the Lincoln Project was attempting to prove in greater detail what you, Glenn Greenwald said: "I think the Trump White House lies more often. I think it lies more readily. I think it lies more blatantly."

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2017/08/glenn-greenwald-on-media-hypocrisy-over-trump-and-the-new-cold-war.html

Now, an outside law firm tasked with a thorough and independent investigation of the John Weaver ugliness and the Jennifer Horn departure will do its work. The sort of transparency that has never ever existed in the Trump Organization, Trump University, the Trump Administration or anything else "Trump."

But I am grateful to TrumpWorld for one truism: the Lincoln Project has distinguished itself in making some of the best enemies anyone could ever hope for.

I think the gullible were probably the people who actually went to work for TLP, who rather foolishly hired liberals without, apparently, understanding the workplace expectations those interns and employees would bring, thinking they were working for a liberal organization.

Nothing about the Lincoln Project.)

And, the Lincoln Project has publicly released any and every person with information about Weaver from any NDA's.

Finally; note what the Lincoln Project HAS NOT DONE. It didn't call the victims liars, and defame them. Like, uh, somebody else with more sexual impropriety allegations against him than John Weaver does.

The Lincoln Project saga is distilled essence of why the GOP base voted for Trump: they recognized that the party had been taken over by those corrupt parasites like Schmidt, Wilson, and Weaver. Their mote-conservative-than-thou moralizing was surpassed by their disdain for the base and at the end of the day they just plain weren't any good at their jobs.

"I think the Trump White House lies more often. I think it lies more readily. I think it lies more blatantly."

That's only part of the quote. Here's more:

"Is that unique? It’s unique by a matter of degree and not by kind, and I would say that that’s true for a lot of things. One of the things I object to is when I see things that have been done for many years, or even decades, being treated as though they’re things that Trump pioneered. That’s generally when I start being more overtly concerned about the narrative being misleading."

That gives a somewhat different picture of what Greenwald was saying, and he said it in the summer of 2017 in the early days of the administration, maybe reacting to silly things like the overestimation of the crowd size at the inauguration.

Glenn has had time to learn since then, and I'm not sure he'd stand by the first half of the quote. Notice, too, that he wasn't saying that the Trump administration was particularly good or successful at lying. They weren't professionals, by any means.

I cannot stay
I came to say
I must be going
I'm glad I came
But just the same
I must be going, la-la!

One good thing coming out of these is that these guys are never gonna work in DC again.

They get relegated, sent down to the minor leagues, to double A league state and local politics. One of their guys wins and they're back in DC again, though not riding as high as they were in the Trump years.

P.S. I looked up AA league baseball just to make sure I got it right. Those teams have some really weird names: Biscuits, Shuckers, Flying Squirrels, Rubber Ducks, Wind Surge, Blue Wahoos, Trash Pandas.

Chuck, since you're still here I'll give you this: You are loyal.

Senior figures are departing the Lincoln Project one after another, and you want to explain that we've got the LP all wrong. It's a pity your efforts are wasted on us.

I didn’t want to post any more comments. But yours was sufficiently personal in a non-insane way that I’ll just say the following in short order.

I’ve never been an employee, partner, director or contractor of the Lincoln Project. I can’t formally resign from something that I have no formal membership in. I said; I am a donor. And a participant in several early teleconference events. I have no personal knowledge of any LP personnel decisions or issues. I will simply await the outside counsel’s investigative reporting.

Now; do what Althouse begged all of you to do and quit commenting about me.

A sperm donor, Chuck?

Anyone else would be denouncing these people rather than pinning their hopes on a hopefully-never-to-be-released bureaucratic report.

I am seriously not Laslo.

You’ve got a special kind of bullshit moderation here, as I’ve told you repeatedly. I’m going to pick my spots.

Anybody been here more than a week knows comments cannot be automatically deleted and moderators have a life beyond this blog.
Any banned crybaby can post while mods are elsewhere.
At least three banned long time commenters have had the admirable self control and decency not to sneak in and whine about being banned.
A couple of others seem lonely and deprived of attention in their lives, probably due to a bad divorce in the past coupled with lack of personal accomplishment, and their sneaking back is almost deserving of sympathy or pity from us normal commenters who always lift the conversation to a higher level.

Basically McConnell showed today that the Republican Party represents the same globalist interests as the Democrats. You in flyover country! We are sending your jobs to China and your sons to fight for oil while all the time America has more oil than anybody, over 2 trillion barrels in oil shale alone.

But reavers like McConnell and BIden will do fine taking their cut of America’s decline.

I think it was very sporting of Chuck to show himself the day George Conway tells the Lincoln Project to take down a tweet since it admits to a Federal Crime. Didn’t delete it soon enough though! But I am sure that they have enough residual gratitude from the kelptocrats in the WH that they will not be charged.

Here’s a little summary from Axios

Background: Schmidt's resignation comes amid a wave of damaging stories for the Lincoln Project.

The New York Times reported last month on allegations from 21 men that Weaver sent them unsolicited and sexually charged messages. One was 14 years old at the time, according to the report.

Multiple people have reportedly been contacted by federal law enforcement regarding the alleged conduct. The Lincoln Project said it has hired an external law firm to conduct an investigation into the matter.

The AP reported that the majority of the $90 million that the Lincoln Project has raised was paid to consulting firms tied to the group's founders and senior staff.

On Thursday, the group's official Twitter account tweeted screenshots of messages between a former senior staffer and a reporter writing a story on the group. Lincoln Project co-founder George Conway suggested the disclosures may have been illegal.

LOL, You money was well spent Chuck!

From Amanda Becker's story in the19th, some progressive women's site I suppose:

Another point of internal financial contention was the donor information that Lincoln Project amassed with ads that spread across social media. The specifics over who or which entity would own the data was not negotiated in advance, sources said, and the data’s market value grew as more and more people gave.

A frequent quip from Schmidt overheard by multiple people was that the Lincoln Project was his vehicle to achieve “generational wealth.”

...

As senior management squabbled over how to divide the pieces of the project’s financial pie, dissatisfaction was growing within the organization’s more junior ranks, which were made up of largely young and liberal staffers who said they had different standards than some of the group’s leaders, citing Schmidt and Wilson specifically. There was language used in both the Lincoln Project’s ads and within its workplace about gender and sexuality that made many of them uncomfortable, the dozens of interviews revealed.

Young men were “wizards” while young women were “girls.” Political rivals were “pu*sies” or “c*cksuckers” or “fag*ots.” By the time the staff convened in Park City, the situation had become so “toxic,” according to more than a dozen accounts, that at least two co-founders, neither of whom remain at the project, had tried unsuccessfully to intervene to improve working conditions.

Staff had also complained that some of the project’s ads, specifically some related to Ivanka Trump, were sexist. There was dissatisfaction among the ranks when Ben Howe, billed as the wunderkind behind some of the Lincoln Project’s earliest ads, was brought back by Wilson. Howe had been fired after The 19th reported that in a series of tweets, he had used offensive slang for female anatomy to insult political rivals.

So in addition to being a grift, it was also a boy's club.

And yet, we only find out all this long after the election and the Project is no longer useful to the Democrats.

"Seven months after they found out. Months where they kept it hidden and did nothing."

Is that "seven months after they found out" what he had been doing, or is it after they found out they wouldn't be able to keep the wraps on it forever? As others have stated here, some of this has been known since the '90s.

Achilles,

One of the most regrettable things, though, is that the alternative to Bush was Algore.

Now there was a time when the latter--and here I refer specifically to Al "Go Grab His Ass" Gore--might have responded as forcefully in Afghanistan, but by 2000 that guy was pretty much history.

I'm glad there's finally reporting about what a fraud & scam @ProjectLincoln
is.

But they're insulting your intelligence. It was so clear this is what they were. Nobody just realized it. They're willing to say it now only because the election is done.

"It's the pretty standard media approach. Remember how McCain, Romney, and Trump were all propped up during the primaries, and primed for a perfect stab in the back? The Lincoln Project should not have expected the scorpion to change its habits."

Words that people like Nikki Haley and others should ponder.

Fortunately for the D's you don't have to lie as "often" "readily" or "blatantly" when all your statement are accepted as true by the slobbering media.
