"Conspiracies at this scale often get exposed and ultimately it took the hasty tweet of Greta, who with other international celebrities suddenly turned sensitive towards farmer issues."

Said one Indian minister, VK Singh, quoted in "Greta Thunberg sparks criminal conspiracy probe in India with accidental tweet" (NY Post). The now-deleted tweet, per Singh, “revealed the real designs of a conspiracy at an international level against India.”

It looks as though Thunberg passes things along without processing them through her own mind. You can see the deleted tweet here. She says "Here's a toolkit if you want to help" and gives a link to a document, which you can read.

Apparently, somebody included her in the distribution of the document and she — or whoever does her Twitter posting — thought she could contribute by widely distributing the document instead of crafting an individual post using tips from the document. I'd argue that she's not part of a conspiracy because the sharing of the raw document is evidence that she didn't know what she was doing. She hurt whatever conspiracy there was. She exposed it.

This incident is interesting because it shows the mechanisms of shallow political activism and because India is taking such a strong position in response to the political speech of people outside their country:
Delhi police on Thursday confirmed that it had launched “a criminal case against the creators of the ‘Toolkit document'” that Thunberg shared. “The call was to wage economic, social, cultural and regional war against India,” police said of the plot supposedly taken up by the celebs.

Shallow political activism.

Is there any other kind?

This poor child's handlers seem to be determined to send her into adulthood with a Q score than can only be measured with the Kelvin scale.

Has anyone called for an intervention yet? If not, let this serve as that call.

Abuse most cruel. And for what? Imagine doing this to your own child.

I see what you did there, Althouse.

edit: and thanks for it, Althouse.

Are we surprised? Thunberg is damaged, incomplete, obviously so: those who have been using her are, like those using Biden, guilty of a kind of child abuse.

Good for India. It seems to have escaped the virus of political correctness, at least for now, at least in its most toxic and self-attacking form. Talk about a cultural autoimmune disorder!

I have an old tag for this. Click on it for some interesting stuff in the archive. The tag is "celebripolitics."

Greta Thunberg. Didn't she used to be famous or something?

In this particular event, she hurt it. They may have reason to believe she’s participated in other related conspiracies.

Depends on what we mean by processing and on the quality of her "mind."

But I accept the general rule that many prog tools just pass things along without processing. That's what makes them useful.

The deeper issue is what to do about Indian farming and farmers. The way it's organized now seems insane. Prog support for the status quo seems a bit, umm, reactionary. But then Modi is a "nationalist," so anyone opposed to him must be supported.

Michael P म्हणाले...

Althouse, when you say Thunberg is not part of the conspiracy, is that using a legal or popular definition of conspiracy? I can't judge whether Thunberg and whoever gave her the "toolkit" intended to commit am illegal act, but they have a shared intent and there were multiple overt acts to further the shared goal.

Fernandinande म्हणाले...

I don't get it.

"Instructions were laid out clearly as to the ‘how’, ‘when’ and ‘what,'” Singh wrote."

'How', 'when', 'where' and 'so what?'.

BTW, which caste includes Greta in its ranks?

Temujin म्हणाले...

The thing about the entire Climate movement is that it is entirely a political bludgeon with which to beat entire countries and governments, as well as individuals over the head. It is a movement, not based on exact science, but on multiple studies, tests, theories, and hypotheses. But it is not an exact science.

In actual science, these theories would have to stand up to rigorous tests by others, to prove that they always occur, that the information pans out when tested by peers, using their stated methods. And it does not. There are way too many contradictions and always have been.

But the media, academia, entertainment world for some reason has gone on and on for decades, beating this into small minds like Greta's, making the kids literally scared that their world is going to end, if we do not turn everything over to a Giant Socialist Governing Body. The people who sent that info to Greta Thunberg have nothing to fear. They have the entire world media on their side to give their side as the good, and India as the bad. And they have China and Russia who will be on their side as they love to see the Western World self immolate because the weather changes. Because the weather changes.

Such madness will be discussed years from now. People will wonder what the hell was going on. Yes...years from now. Which would be approximately 100 years after Al Gore and John Kerry told us we had 12 years to get it right. The worst fraud ever perpetrated on the planet.

Reminds me of a post shared by a relative during the Antifa riots in Portland, suggesting that participants use water balloons filled with oil based paint and sand to ruin their eye protection. I'm sure she thought it was a harmless little post.

Scientology gets all the attention, but its a time-hardened strategy for most leftist organizations to try to latch on to celebrities to use (a) their money and (b) their platform by feeding them talking points that will make them look "serious, knowledgable and concerned."

mikee म्हणाले...

Sorry, Althouse, but being an incompetent conspirator doesn't absolve one from taking part in the conspiracy. Greta, or her publicist who sends out tweets, took part in this conspiracy.

Just ask the guy who taped the door at the Watergate so it wouldn't lock behind his break-in team. This was an unwise move. A security guard saw the tape, realized something was wrong, investigated ... and next thing Nixon knew he was waving goodbye to DC from the chopper stairs.

Levi Starks म्हणाले...

I can only hope that 80 years from now it’s viewed as fitting to prosecute Greta for her role in exacerbating world hunger which is currently claiming 30,000 lives a day.

As to Omaha's Climate Plan, I'd bet a few minutes of investigation will reveal the existence of a large budget for its creation, implementation and continuance. With sinecures, grants, and contracts galore for the well connected. Follow the money, and you'll find the corrupt city officials in Omaha.

Fascinating. Greta, teenager, is the Nazi secretary whose windows faced away from the camp.

If I could impart anything to the younger generation it would be a sense of mercy. They don't know how much they'll need a merciful culture down the line.

Lurker21 म्हणाले...

It's not like she worked in a concentration camp or anything. She's eighteen and looks like she's thirteen and probably isn't very bright.

But this is a great time for conspiracy theories and conspiracies and collusion. Much of what happens in the world is the product of coordination that looks a lot like conspiracy to outsiders. Indeed, that seems to be the way the world works now and the line between legitimate cooperation and conspiracy or collusion is hard to draw. We are post-truth and post-lie. Everything is a performance and nothing is on the level.

I suggest a romantic comedy about Greta Thunberg and David Hogg. We could call it Pillow Talk, though I suppose that title is already taken.

No, the sharing comes from being sloppy and that, alone, would not keep her from being a member of a conspiracy. If the getaway driver mistakenly crashes into a police station, is he still not part of the crime even though he was inept?

Greta can surely be an ineffective/sloppy part of a conspiracy.
