Trial first, investigation afterwards. Kind of risky, isn't it? Just to assert that now what we need is an investigation is to make the fanfare of the last week seem, retrospectively, sketchy. We were urged to believe that we saw everything, and we know what we saw and what it all meant. Are we just supposed to forget all that and imagine we're back at square one? How can this commission dare to find things that don't synch with the prosecution's case? Was Brian Sicknick beaten to death with a fire extinguisher?
From the Forbes article:
“Of course” we need a 9/11-style commission, Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-Pa.) told ABC News’ This Week on Sunday, arguing it should be "impartial,” and “filled with people who would stand up to the courage of their conviction."
Who is impartial? And who are "people who would stand up to the courage of their conviction" who are also impartial? What does "their conviction" even mean if not that they are partial?
"There's still more evidence that the American people need and deserve to hear,” Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos Sunday.
Note the implication that the evidence heard at the trial was all good evidence. Nothing amiss there. Just that there's "more evidence." I doubt if Coons is open to a commission that draws the evidence presented at trial into question.
The House Managers' trial memo said "The insurrectionists killed a Capitol Police officer by striking him in the head with a fire extinguisher" — an overeager assertion that isn't holding up. How much more damage to the Insurrection Myth can American tolerate? Is the point of this commission — the one elected officials are getting bipartisan about — to shore up the legitimacy of the already-concluded proceedings?
Defending himself as one of the few GOP lawmakers to vote to convict Trump in an interview with ABC News Sunday, Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana called for “a complete investigation” including “what was known” and “who knew it” so “this never happens again in future.”
Notice how Cassidy doesn't open up the question of what "it" was, just what was known about "it" and by whom. And by the way, what did you know, Mr. Cassidy, when you chose to vote guilty when there hadn't been the investigation that you say is needed now? What I wanted to know, what I thought was the crucial question in the impeachment, was whether there was a plan to breach the Capitol and whether Trump knew about it when he gave his speech. That's the “what was known” and “who knew it” that matters to me. Why didn't it matter to you, Mr. Cassidy?
Also I'd like to know whether whether there was a plan to breach the Capitol and whether those in charge of Capitol security knew about it and, if they knew, why did they not provide adequate security? And then if there was a plan and if Trump knew about it, did he have reason to rely on Capitol security to prevent any fulfillment of whatever plan there was and to focus his intention on the free-speech-protected rally of his supporters? Were they overwhelmingly peaceful?
Though Republicans and Democrats... disagree about what the committee should focus on. On Sunday, Graham said he wanted to know if there was a “pre-planned element to the attack” while Coons wanted the commission to focus on Trump’s role in the riot and “lay bare the record just how responsible and how objectfully violating of his constitutional oath” the former president was.
You can't trust Republicans and Democrats to do this Commission properly, because they have such a strong stake in justifying what they have already done. The 9/11 Commission was given an appearance of impartiality by balancing 5 Republicans and 5 Democrats. That approach won't suffice this time.

Robert Mueller and his Band of Angry Democrat should do this. The Mueller Report.
Hey guys! I got a great idea. Let's get a former FBI Director head up the investigation, a commission say.. Not Robert Mueller but James Comey. He's impartial....just ask him!
Or the campaign of violence thar claimed the lives of hundreds of cops , last spring and summer
I support a full open transparent investigation but Nancy won’t let that happen. She’s the one who told her private 2000-man Cap-Police force to stand down and let the “protesters” in to ensure a “breach” would be reported.
Or, the elections, over which more people are divided than Jan 6.
If the plan was really “insurrection” why didn’t Trump declare martial law or any other bold move indicative of a coup?
Keep poking the bear ........
A commission of this type ia a good idea and should be applauded by both sides, which each have a vested interest on airing out what happened on Jan 6.
The point is to keep it in the news cycle. It serves the purpose of the fence and razor wire and troops after they leave.
"What happened is so serious that we have to investigate further"
I'd just ban the sale or ownership of viking horn hats to prevent its happening again.
At this point, what difference does it make?
And, some died in a nursing home and some died in a hospital.
And, if you want your doctor you can keep your doctor.
And, two weeks to flatten the curve.
And, masks don’t really help and you should or shouldn’t wear them anyway.
And, according to law enforcement officials, Officer Sicknick was hit on the head with a fire extinguisher. CPR was aadministered at the scene and he was rushed to the hospital.
And, according to sources close to the Mueller investigation (insert lie here).
Yup. An investigation is important and will clear things up.
Who killed Ashlii Babbit?
No its much more atupid than that

The liberal media and the Democrats will write the history of the Capitol Riot so don't expect any truth, just their narrative.
That’s a helluva “insurrection” when the peaceful vote of electors is slightly delayed but takes place on the appointed day! The facts seem rather stubbornly opposed to even the hint of a coup. Much less the modern worlds first unarmed insurrection. Myth making requires better facts to support their fantastic stories.
AT THIS POINT WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE...said some screechy harridan.
No really. Is a "commission" and a protracted show trial really going to change anyone's mind about anything. The Democrats cheated and stole the Presidential election. They are going to cheat into infinity and beyond.
There is no such thing as impartial, fair or honest when it comes to government anymore...if ever. The United States is flopping around and dying. All the "commissions" in the world are not going to revive it.
No..wait. Actually, let's DO have the show trials and stir up the masses. I don't think the Democrats understand the concept of "don't poke at the hornet's nest". Bzzzzzzzzzzz.
There is not a single person in American public life who would have the credibility to run such a commission. Or to even serve on it. And who would agree to do that job?

Twisty ties won't work in an insurrection. You need zip ties.
Let’s have a real investigation of how the Dems stole the election. Molly Ball has already started on it.
Meanwhile we have al shahaabs rep as head of the foreign relations committee
It's too bad that the DOJ and FBI have spoiled their own credibility to investigate and report about the incident to the public in a non-partisan manner.
I'd paralyze congress by distributing chinese finger traps.
If you thought the second impeachment was farce this is going to be even better.
I can hardly wait for the lies and hypocrisy to commence.
It's like leaving USB drives with malware near Iranian nuclear sites.
Sadly, I suspect that coming events may moot any need to investigate the events of 1/6.
Coons wanted witnesses until he didn't, just 2 days ago. Now he wants a meaningless "commission", the results of which more than 1/2 the people won't believe.
Coons can explain why we still don't have CoD for Sinknink and Babit. Coons can explain where in the constitution he finds the power for domestic deployment of the military in DC. Maybe if he could do something simple like that, he can graduate to other things.
"At this point, what difference does it make?"
Arturo Ui—your name is a tell, pal.
Who would take advice from Hitler?
A Commission is not needed. Just put all documents from FBI,Capitol police and all agencies on line without redaction and we will take it from there.

Will they tell the truth?? They haven't yet. Why do they want to keep poking the angry bear?? So they can use force and have a reason to stay behind their guilded gates?? We all know they will NEVER let this go, and we will NEVER hear the real truth with this Pravda media. Who killed Ashli Babbitt and why?? And why don't care?? She was an unarmed woman. Why the lies about Officer Sidenick?? Because it helped their lying narrative that Ted Cruz wanted to murder AOC?? Why aren't they doing their jobs, and helping the American people?? Because they obviously don't care. They do care about the illegals they are letting come in now though. YOU stay locked in your house.
When's the 9/11 style commission to probe BLM riots and the role in them of municipal, state and federal elected officials?
Theres 2 billion reasons why thats not going to happen

Perhaps an investigation into whether the election was stolen is on order.
Except that we know what the preplanned outcome of that would be.
Is the point of this commission — the one elected officials are getting bipartisan about — to shore up the legitimacy of the already-concluded proceedings?
Of course. I want to know why the Capitol wasn't defended and "fortified" that day, as it would normally have been when a large demonstration was in the city, but the focus will be on Trump. Even now, he's all cable news is talking about, with hopes that he won't get away scot-free because state and local prosecutors will take him down. Impeachment was partisan. The trial was partisan. The hearings will be partisan. And any guesses which party will be running them?
The next time al queda will come around and show us how its done properly.
People who rushed to judgement a month ago don't get to lecture me now on how we need a thorough investigation.
Not those demanding an investigation now are the ones that already voted to convict a person prior to this investigation.

This is an effort to make the Capitol riot the equivalent of 9/11 to justify a domestic war on terror equivalent to the WOT that followed 9/11.
Remember when the left was opposed to the WOT overseas? Now it seems they want one here at home. It's insane, but it's coming.
oh, and let's All Remember; the definition of bipartisan
As President O'Bama famously told us:
bipartisan is when (some) republicans agree with democrat positions
They dont regard al queda as terrorists, remember patsy murray or miss heffernan herself.
I would be overjoyed if an impartial inquiry with subpoena powers not encumbered by slavish adherence to the partisan Democrat narrative were to investigate thoroughly who was involved, who planned what, etc.
Oh yeah, and why Nancy turned down Trump’s offer of National Guard protection. That was some real 3D chess by Trump, to offer the help of the National Guard because he knew full well that Nancy would turn it down!
Same as. he gave the Hunter Biden laptop to the FBI a year before it came to light publicly, because he was so sure that the Russian disinformation was so well crafted that the FBI would never see through it.
Speaking of prosecutions, when is the trial of Giuliani for pushing Russian disinformation coming? They have had the laptop for well over a year now.
Nicolle wallace (shes as subtle as her namesake on law and order) favors drone strikes maybe on her parents.
First off, there's no such thing as a bipartisan investigation. Those are universally whitewashes. It's like saying the WHO commission who just visited Wuhan as an independent investigation.
There is such a thing as an independent commission, but those are often twisted too. However, things that an independent investigation could be used on here:
1. Why the hell were a 2,000 strong force of capitol police over-run by barely-armed rioters on a known day for such mobs and external forces? It was the electoral vote certification day for God's sake.
2. Why did the DC mayor turn down national guard support only to request it afterwards?
3. How was a riot both pre-planned and incited the day of ? Or are we just making shit up as we go now. It's one or the other. Or you could say the incitement the day of was part of a pre-planned effort, but then you'd have to deal with the fact that once the capitol was overcome people had no freaking clue what they were doing. So what some people showed up in tac gear or with zip ties. So what? It wasn't used.
4. Why did Nancy Pelosi and other house members responsibel for the capitol police so poorly manage and direct them before and during this crisis?
5. What are we doing about unelected, partisan officials in multiple states making unilateral declarations and changes, in violation of law, on the voting processes within their state and without the support of state legislature?
I could go on, but thoe are good places to start.
Joe
We don't need a 9/11 style commission, per the House Managers Brief.
Yes she has power over the capitol police, we know the quality of intelligence thar ignored the nashville bomber that mislabeled solarwinds as russian hack when its chinese and vietnamese sourced, that it hapoened at all.
Until I see the first piece of evidence that I am wrong, which I have not yet seen, my position is that the people who planned what happened at the Capitol were the people who benefited from it the most. The Democrats. (Meaning the whole organization, from Ante-Fa to Hollywood, to cable news to the newspapers to the big law firms to the Democrat leadership, visible and invisible.)
Raskin the head chimp is the son of a soviet frontman, who in his own capacities challenged bureau sanctioning of chinese spy fronts.
The fact that Democrats. are now worried about the military rank and file suggests to me that they have plans for the military half of America is not going to like very much, and that may even horrify a good deal of the other half too. Of course it will be too late then.
Happened it all, krebs said he was on watch.

Keep encouraging illegal immigrant caravans and turn a blind eye to the billions in private property destruction and terror over the summer. Focus all their attention on what happened to *them*. They are even more narcissistic than I thought they were.
Spend the money you would spend on a commission on fortifying the DC buildings. I do not understand why the Capitol. has breakable windows and doors that have glass and office doors that don't close and lock at the press of a button.
The other day there was talk of the Dems calling witnesses and keeping Trump's trial going for months. They decided against that and wrapped the trial up quite suddenly. Having Trump's lawyers calling witnesses would've been risky and messy.
Now we see the alternative they came up with.

I second that. I was for releasing it all way back when...and they should have. Let US see what happened and let US decide.
Well the commission can interview SS agents who will probably confirm what was brought out in the trail that Trump knew about the danger to Pence and congress and did noting for hours because it was in his interest to obstruct the peaceful transfer of power.Wether or not you agree that he incited, one con’t ignore his obvious breech of duty.
'Bipartisan' won't cut it when there is bipartisan hatred of DJT with the goal of holding him accountable for the Capitol incident.
It would be nice to find out who killed Ashli Babbitt, though. Is that so difficult?
Are we just supposed to forget all that and imagine we're back at square one?
Yes.

It's what they do.
Was Brian Sicknick beaten to death with a fire extinguisher?
Only if it makes Trump looks bad. If not, then no.
Wrong question. The questions should be
- Who's been financing the antifa/BLM riots?
- Who are the rioters?
- Who are the rioters political backers and enablers?
- When will the District Attorneys start prosecuting the rioters?
Andy Ngo's book Unmasked is a good start to answering those questions.
And what about Antifa guy's connection to CNN? Did CNN know the Capitol would be attacked in advance?
Like Pharaoh in The Ten Commandments, the establishment elites want Trump and the deplorables scrubbed from the historical narrative. Seems fitting in this age of historical revisionism/memory-holing. Our betters know better and want us to heel if not heal. What unmitigated arrogance. What happened in the Capitol was heinous. Opening Pandora's box, or, more fitting, looking at the ingredients of this scrapple-laden episode may lead folks like Bill Cassidy, to say nothing of Nancy Pelosi, to an outcome they would rather not see or know. Meaning, impartiality means EVERYTHING is looked at from all angles. Discovery may end up making them miserable.
President Trump has faced the fire.
Twice he has been found innocent.
Will third time be the charm?
Will something happen March 6?
John Henry
I'm OK with that investigation, as long as there are equivalent investigations into the X (maybe 10?) worst riots that happened during the previous year

"Well the commission can interview SS agents who will probably confirm what was brought out in the trail that Trump knew about the danger to Pence and congress and did noting for hours because it was in his interest to obstruct the peaceful transfer of power."
-- This is why we need to depose Bowser and Pelosi. Because... that statement? That statement doesn't mesh with what we know happened beforehand, with Trump offering National Guard to protect, only to be told no, with Trump warning that they needed more protection, and with Trump basically trying to tell the rioters to go home and be peaceful.
What you're describing is what Trump has always done: Tried to leave law enforcement to the people with the legal authority to intervene. It wasn't until it was clear that Pelosi and Bowser were refusing to attempt to defend the Capitol that he would act, because he knew if he tried to act beforehand, as he did with previous riots, there was a real risk to the National Guard of being doxed and having their lives ruined, all while the attempt to protect lives and property would be called a fascist totalitarian power grab.
What else was Trump supposed to do when he hadn't the jurisdiction or the approval to intervene with force?
This being the anniversary of parkland we know how bureau and doe collaborated to protect the shooter.
I favor a commission headed by Lavrenty Pavlovich Beria. He would deliver the kind of justice Pelosi is calling for in support the narrative.
The investigation will not turn up any of the leftwing ante-fas that were there.
I promise.
Amadeus 48 @7:19 AM:
Good one, mate.
Lawyers in court are not under oath and therefore can lie with almost total immunity. Thus, the first order of business in the investigation must be to put all the House Managers under oath and ask them why they lied about the fire extinguisher and why they falsified evidence.
Pre Ordained outcome already. Bah Humbug!

Yes- a reference to the identical. Do people really not get it by now? All this special counsel stuff is to check the other party. The only thing different about this one is that it Democrats are in power now, so it's more of an offensive move.
...but why? Why would Democrats in power feel the need to keep Republicans in check? Two theories: A: they know the oppressive polices coming will be disturbingly destructive and unpopular so they need to stay out ahead of Republicans, or Two: when the truth comes out when somebody 'important' openly brags about the stolen election Democrats will need to look like the judge instead of the criminal.
"We were urged to believe that we saw everything"
Not at all. We were urged to believe Trump was guilty on the Dems' say-so.
"How can this commission dare to find things that don't synch with the prosecution's case?"
What do you mean, dare? They will do progs' bidding, and if that requires moving goalposts, so be it.
"Who is impartial?"
Funny stuff.
"And by the way, what did you know, Mr. Cassidy, when you chose to vote guilty when there hadn't been the investigation that you say is needed now?"
What do you mean, know? Why should he know anything to decide?
"What I wanted to know, what I thought was the crucial question"
There you go again. What you want is beside the point. What you want is irrelevant. Asking for "evidence" and talk of "crucial questions" only legitimates the stunt. It is aiding and abetting the prog circus.
"That's the “what was known” and “who knew it” that matters to me. Why didn't it matter to you, Mr. Cassidy?"
Well, what matters to you is beside the point. Though parading your good-faith interest, pretending there was a trial and that procedure might have a role, is already submitting to the prog narrative. But even Cassidy, who as a GOPer might have pretended to care about nice women's sensibilities, doesn't actually care and can't be bothered to fake it. Evidence doesn't matter, argument doesn't matter, fairness doesn't matter, and nice women's old-fashion sensibilities certainly don't matter.
So forget it and join us cynical deplorables in seeing the world for what it is. You're almost there.
the rally was a different set of people, for the most part.
The same FBI who let Hillary off the hook for a private server... and the same FBI who claim to be investigating Hunter Biden... will find all the evidence they need to prove right wing terror is the real problem.

We all welcome a REAL investigation.
I suppose a third option: to rewrite history so the evil truth about Democrats is erased.
Because Commissions always get to the truth, right? Right!

We would all like actual truth to be revealed but that’s a wish that will forever remain unfulfilled.
Welcome to the new, improved America, now featuring Stalinist show trials and virtual gulags!
How many people were at the rally on Jan 6? I see numbers ranging from a low of tens of thousand to as high as 200m.
How many entered the capital, peacefully via doors opened by police or vandalously via a smashed window? 3-4 hundred?
If President Trump had incited "violence" don't you think there would be a hell of a lot more people taking part in the capital breach?
John Henry
You know, I think I've got the answer to America's problem. Drugs. If the hoi polloi were kept heavily sedated...walla! problem solved. And there are lot of detention centers near the border not being used.
It's 2021 and everything is an information operation. A commission would be good, but one that focused on the unholy alliance of our intelligence and law enforcement and political leadership, together with corporate/tech leaders and now adding the military, have conspired to turn a protest into an insurrection. Also how these assholes never give up, working hard as they do on the mass of lower information people, in the process turning against them anyone actually noticing shit and paying attention. Everything they do will backfire, so at least do it with some pomp and theatrics.
This is good news for Trump and you people. It means that he won't be indicted for felonies.
Also, did you see how your calls for impeaching Kamala filtered through Trump and we're expressed by Lindsey after their tete a tete. That's real crazy power.
...and what's this 'bipartisan support' stuff? Democrats and Republicans that like doing what Democrats want, maybe...
My late father read “The Gulag Archipelago” back when it came out, 50-ish years ago, and told me about it to help me understand what living in a one-party police state was like. I never read that one but did read “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich” in HS.
His level of anger would be off the charts, were he still here, at what is being done to our country from within, by politicians who quite vocally despise everything about our founding ideals — and are proud of it. Not only that, they are actively implementing everything that Solzhenitsyn warned us about. And the media cheers it all on.
But hey, Trump is mean and tweets too much, wah wah wah!
Why do you think China Joe is going to empty Gitmo??
Bi-Partisan means that Romney and Sasse will be the media darlings on the right to aid the corrupt democratics in their lies.
Oh, sure, go ahead, let's have a commission to investigate. And the people who don't like their conclusions can form a second commission to investigate the first commission. And the people who don't like the conclusions of the second commission can form a third commission to investigate the second commission.
Wash, rinse, repeat for the next 20 or 30 years.
It's simply not possible ever to know for sure what "really" happened. Notice the lingering doubts about the Warren Commission from more than half a century ago.
We were urged to believe that we saw everything, and we know what we saw and what it all might.
My guess: .... what it all means.
The thing about the Democrats is that they abandoned their actual jobs a bit over 4 years ago to become full-time Trump ousters. They somehow see that as their raison d'être, the purpose of being in Congress (and apparently the Presidency and Vice-Presidency). They cannot let Trump go.
The reality is that they actually have nothing else to offer. And their audience for offering up Trump's head is, at best, dwindling, and more likely, gaining ground being viewed as a psychological problem and an admittance that they are not up to actually doing their job.
Imagine that you owned a business. And you let go of your General Manager because, though he got a lot done, he created too much turmoil among your staff and customers. His replacement comes in and does nothing but talk to your customers and employees about what a bad guy the other GM was. In fact, the new guy spends so much time focused on someone who had been let go, that he fails to properly run your business. Hell, he fails to run it at all. You would quickly end up firing the new guy.
We've had years of fraud, race-baiting, riot encouraging, distractions, discredited attacks on citizens, spying on citizens, and more from the Democrats (and some of the Republicans) in Congress. We've had years of the same from our current President and Veep. Why would we put up with this any longer than we have to. Congress will get fired in 2022. The White House will change over in 2024.
Per rhhardin@ 7:22AM: Check out Scott Adams short mocking of the insurrection's seriousness How To Plan an Insurrection (short)
Classic! :-D
We need a "Root Causes" Commission.
It will look into the Democrats' 2020 riots.
How did they start? Which Mayors stopped the police from keeping the violence in check? Which Governors refused to help keep violence from happening? Which Governors refused to immediately help shut down the violence?
Which prosecutors refused to prosecute the people doing violence? Who paid bail for the violent thugs who were arrested?
Which press organizations covered up violence, or downplayed it? Which press organizations attacked those who were trying to stop the violence.
Same questions for schools and academics.
Same questions for non-profit groups.
Was there a web of collusion in supporting the criminal political violence of 2020?
Those are the root causes of the 1/6/21 violence, and therefore must be fully examined.
Let's have a fair and balance Commission
5 Trump supporters, 5 Trump haters.
Gosh Hawley and Ted Cruz for 2 of the members. Let them pick the other 3
When the hearings wind up it will just about be time for the Third Annual Trump Impeachment.
You could book your seats now, but it may just be conducted over a Zoom call.
So if 5D/5R won't work, could we perhaps empanel half a dozen Special Forces noncoms to report on the event, perhaps with a few dozen big city detectives with gang breaking experience as investigators? SF are, after all, experts on counter-insurgency and would be able to accurately report on the strengths and weaknesses of this "insurrection," and the police would be expert in linking people, places, activities into a coherent whole for the report.
I continue to speculate that there is a QAnon element in this story.
Some top official in the US Intelligence Community has said secretly that:
* President Trump is behind QAnon
* QAnon said to invade the Capitol Building
That is why:
** QAnon has been made into such a boogieman since the incident.
** Senator McConnell thinks Trump incited the invasion.
** Senator Burr (Senate Intelligence Community) voted to convict.
======
Hint:
If Trump had been re-elected, his very first act would have been to fire FBI Director Wray.

What If, 2022 the dem's lose both the House And the Senate?
What If, the republicans get "a simple majority" in both houses?
What If, the republicans Pass a resolution invoking Section 3 of the 14th Amendment...
AGAINST EACH AND EVERY MEMBER OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY IN THE UNITED STATES?
What If, when people squawk; the rep's point out the precedent ALREADY established?
@RBReich
To prevent Trump from holding office again, a simple majority of Congress must now pass a resolution invoking Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which bars anyone from holding office who has "engaged in insurrection" against the United States.
What If? Some Fun! huh?
I have no problem with the corrupt left banning Trump from running for president again. If it quells their fear of him - so be it. Fuckers.
I want a candidate who will not only say he/she going to fight, but actually do it. I also want a wordsmith.
Comney is a worm, but I actually think his firing was spurred-on BY the officials who were attempting to manipulate that Trump do it. (revenge for Hillary, remember?) We all know what happened next.
Its a minefield not a swamp with barbed wire layers of it, comey to strzok (who inspired my antagonist in part) ohr gaeta et al.brennan price haddad.
I don't always agree with him, but I would trust Rand Paul, The way thing work though, his friendly neighbor would get more support from Congress.
OT:
The spine that Lindsey grew. I like it.
In the wake of the Democrats’ second failed attempt to impeach and remove President Trump, Lindsey Graham, in an appearance of Fox News Sunday, said that Democrats have now opened Pandora’s Box, and that by the standard they’ve set, Kamala Harris has met their requirement for impeachment.
“The trial record was a complete joke,” Senator Graham said. “Hearsay on top of hearsay, and we’ve opened Pandora’s Box for future presidents and if you use this model, I don’t know how Kamala Harris doesn’t get impeached if Republicans take over the House because she actually bailed out rioters, and more of the rioters went back to the streets and broke somebody’s head open, so we’ve opened Pandora’s Box here, and I’m sad for the country.”
I don't know. I noticed that the Dem's call for witnesses collapsed when Senator Cruz threw a shot across Pelosi's bow---"we'll call her". I think both parties--but particularly the Dems might just want this kerfuffle to go away. I note that Biden and Harris stayed away--well away. This fiasco will be laid at Nancy's door--where it probably belongs.
But it would not surprise me if Nancy takes a third whack at the Trump pinata and calls for a vote of censure. She may even be stupid enough to call for a bill of attainder--prohibited in our political system, but what the heck, why should she be worried about constitutional niceties. Rules are for the little people, and in her mind she's as big as the Graf Zeppelin.
There is a bonus to the corrupt left banning Trump.
*It's like killing obi-Wan.
"Bipartisan Support Grows For 9/11-Style Commission To Probe Capitol Riot."
I don't doubt this is true. But remember Dems wrote a memo outlining their plan to first join the Commission and influence it to condemn Reps and then denounce the Commission for covering up facts which showed Reps were even more negligent. Since this was written before the commission started there was zero chance their accusations had any basis in reality.
Is it true that Lindsey Graham is replacing McConnell as Senate minority leader?
In a real trial, of course, the attorneys would not knowingly allow anyone on the jury who is thought to be prejudicial. But of course that wasn't a real trial.
Senator Graham said:
“Hearsay on top of hearsay, and we’ve opened Pandora’s Box for future presidents and if you use this model, I don’t know how Kamala Harris doesn’t get impeached [...] she actually bailed out rioters, and more of the rioters went back to the streets and broke somebody’s head open, so we’ve opened Pandora’s Box here, and I’m sad for the country.”
Not only she was also the atty for one of the suspected financiers of al queda.
The 9/11 commission was a joke once they put the Zelig of Disaster Jamie Gorelick (the architect of the 'wall' between the CIA and FBI) on it. Surprisingly the commission didn't pin anything on her.
The Financial Crisis commission similarly protected Fannie Mae, the key culprit, though Peter Wallison was at least able to publish his dissenting view.
I'm sure if this commission is created they'll put Republicans on it who voted to convict Trump, and that will make it nice and "bipartisan" and "objective."

OT, but this bugs me a bit (not directed at the poster)..
It was a cool line, but really not true. Kenobi did virtually nothing after being killed other than glow and give questionable advice.
The goal is to extend Trump-bashing until the mid-terms when any unacceptable candidate can be labelled 'another Trump.'
More deflection away from QuidProJoe/Democrat incompetence and corruption. If Republicans move to add BLM and Antifa riots to a commision’s brief the idea will disappear posthaste.

That would be a Bill of Attainder, straight up.
Or more properly, an unconstitutional attempt at an unconstitutional Bill of Attainder, since (a) Congressional resolutions do not have the force of law and (b) Congress can't act like a court of law and "convict" any private citizen of anything.
Oh yeah. Per Breezy at 7:07, there will be no move to investigate the fortification of the election.
Everything the corrupt left does is for power and self-enrichment.
'Let the jury consider their verdict,' the King said, for about the twentieth time that day.'No, no!' said the Queen. 'Sentence first - verdict afterwards.''Stuff and nonsense!' said Alice loudly. 'The idea of having the sentence first!''Hold your tongue!' said the Queen, turning purple.'I won't!' said Alice.'Off with her head!' the Queen shouted at the top of her voice.

Thus, the first order of business in the investigation must be to put all the House Managers under oath and ask them why they lied about the fire extinguisher and why they falsified evidence.
>>>>Sure..the Dems are gonna allow that. Besides, the House Managers were not "in court".
Funny how it seems that most of the Trumpsters here seem not to want an investigation. I think that there are many dems and republicans that can fairly participate in such an investigation. The facts will be what they are. Question under oath the people with relevant information. Obtain and review relevant documents. It really is not a partisan endeavor. Let the relevant facts come out for public consumption and evaluation.
"Why can no one spell breach?"
Spelling is though.
Democrats are all about bipartisanship, amirite?
mockturtle: "Is it true that Lindsey Graham is replacing McConnell as Senate minority leader?"
They are all always trying to move up the ladder so the evergreen answer to your question is yes.
Most importantly and most interestingly is Graham's public positioning on this as it clearly establishes a contrast between himself and McConnell and leverages McConnell's stupid pro-dem statement as a knife pointed at republican incumbents for 2022 who will now have to deal with McConnell's wedge comment against their dem opponents.
Those 2022 republicans are going to have significant residual anger at McConnell fr that.
Is the overall scenario advantageous for Lindsay if republicans fare poorly in 2022 and McConnell can be blamed?
Uh, yeah.
Though we dont know for sure, what we do know is that if Graham were going to challenge McConnell, these are steps he would be taking.
Which would also explain why Lindsay spends more time in Lindsay 2.0 Mode (more pro-Trump/MAGA) vs Lindsay 1.0 Mode (McCain buddy mode).
So time will tell.

Amendment 14, Section 3:
No Person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, ...
So, what's missing from here? That's right! "President" and "Vice President" are missing from here.
Important rule of legal interpretation: all the words there mean something.
So, what does it mean to "hold any office, civil or military, under the United States"? Well, it means to hold a non-elective office.
Because if elective offices were included, then they wouldn't need to specify that you can't be a "Senator or Representative in Congress".
You are an illiterate moron.
Why so much interest in the name of the cop who killed Babbitt? So he and his family can be harassed or worse? I thought Republicans didn't do such things. They are peaceful, unlike the hundreds of Antifa posing as Trump supporters who invaded the Capitol on Jan 6.
Anyway, everyone saw exactly what happened. And if her family brings a wrongful death action (unlikely given the shooting clearly was justified), he will be named. Sit tight.

Independent,
It's quite clear that the Dems have no interest in finding out the truth of the riots. Just like with Hunter Biden. Or irregularities in the 2020 voting. So there is no way that the proposed investigation would be fair.
Interest in the shooter's name is due to wanting the left to have to play by the sea rules as the right has to

And what color is the pink cotton candy on your world?
There is **already** lots of speculation that Pelosi had some role in not ramping up Capitol security in advance of the demonstration. Do you really think a non-partisan panel could be formed that would promise to/promise not to leave that particular wet rock unturned?
Trump supporters would love to have an impartial investigation, but by now we are painfully aware that we are living in a Stalinist regime that forms a praetorian guard around its leaders.
Yes.
But it should consume the full Senate's time for the 2-4 years.
Possibly the House's time too.
No one who goes to the trouble of calling themselves "Independent" is to be trusted. If you called yourself "Leftwing Nutjob", we could and would take you more seriously.
Our paranoid "leaders" in DC know the election was rigged, so they need to keep the attention on Trump. Anything to prevent people from focusing on election reform and probing the election fraud in 2020.
But people's patience has a limit. They keep this up and they're going to have to build a defensive wall around congress.
I've said it before: The sick, twisted need to destroy Trump will cause the Trump-haters to destroy themselves.

No, they can't.
no one who's willing to turn a blind eye to the massive vote fraud in the 2020 election can "fairly participate" in any investigation.
Because they've already established they're a liar or a credulous fool.
1/2 of the members, and the Chair, pro Trump. Complete subpoena power for either 1/2 of the Commission. No use of the FBI, or anyone else part of the Executive Branch.
Investigating the 2020 riots as I detailed about to be considered within the remit of the Commission.
You agree? let's go for it
You disagree? It's because you are a lying hack looking for a dishonest "investigation"
I think it's simpler than people are letting on. It has been a LONG time since the Democrats held policy positions actually supported by a majority.
IMO they would have failed spectacularly last November except for Covid and the endless roar of Orange Man Bad!
Just a few weeks into the Biden term the lefties are noticing. You mean he really meant that. Or, why isn't that done. WHERE'S MY MONEY????
The newsies are finding they have to, even spun as rapidly as possible, report that the only political news is not so golden. Can't let flights in without covid testing..... but illegal aliens? C'mon down (man).
So they HAVE to keep Trump front and center. Otherwise the peasants might notice.
Greg -
In full the clause says:
“No Person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”
You read "any office, civil or military" as excluding the office of the president? And you think RBReich is an illiterate moran? LOL
Here is who is likely to end up on the "bi-partisan" commission:
Raskin, Swalwell, Schiff, Coons, and Warner for the Democrats;
Cheney, Romney, Murkowski, Kinzinger, and Beutler for the Republicans.
This isn't our first rodeo with indepependent counsels or commissions- by this point in time, if you fool me, it is my fault.
Exhelodrvr1 says:

As long as everyone who potentially has relevant information is questioned under oath, and all relevant documents are subpoenaed, then the facts should come out regardless of who does and does not have an interest in finding out the truth.
"Independent" - uh huh.
We welcome an honest investigation. We know an HONEST INVESTIGATION is not on the menu.
If it's found that Nancy blew it because Trump wanted more security that day, and she said no - WHAT THEN? What else did Nancy know? Why were there so many videos showing the police letting people walk on in? Why were there fake maga hanging out under the trees near the capitol? The fake maga who were caught breaking windows (JOHN SULLIVAN - A KNOWN ANTIFA WITH A RECORD OF ARRESTS IN OTHER CITIES FOR INCITEMENT OF VIOLENCE - HE WAS THERE ARRESTED AND GIVEN TIME ON CNN) WAs he alone? Who was he yelling at in the videos?
Don't forget to put Jamie Gorelick on the commission.
1. yes, the commission will be "balanced" in the same way the Debate Commission was balanced. You'll have 5 Democrats who hate Trump balanced by 5 Republicans who hate Trump.
2.The Establishment, both R and D, hates Trump and wants to destroy him. "Trumpism" must be wiped off the face of the earth, never to both our Rulers again. So, we will get a commission, or we'll get an unconstitutional 14th Amendment "Bill of attainder" or civil/criminal charges and law suits. Anything to destroy Donald J. Trump and send the message: "don't mess with us".
3. Its interesting how the NYT's can publish "fake news" with no evidence, and everyone STILL gives it credibility. There isn't ONE shred of evidence that a police officer was killed on Jan 6th by Pro-Trump protesters. ZERO. The default position should be: It didn't happen unless you have evidence. But like "Trump-Russia" the MSM just tosses out anonymous sources and voila - People still refuse say it didn't happen.
independent: "Funny how it seems that most of the Trumpsters here seem not to want an investigation."
Its very important for our New American Soviets to layer in multiple lies covering multiple facets of their fake narratives.
This is purposeful and is intended to make it impossible to peel back the onion to address fundamental truths.
In this case everyone knows the New American Soviets will simply conduct another Vyshynski-ite Show Trial with a team of Schiffs/Weissmanns in order to get to their "truth".
Meanwhile, as with Hoax Impeachment 1, all the actual under oath testimony that undermines the Soviet lies will be held in secret and never released any actual challenging questions will be ruled non-germane.
Thats what the erotic poetry reader at dni is for.

Mitch the bitch has shown his true colors. What a creep this guy is. ZERO loyalty to Trump. ZERO. What did Trump ever do to Mitch? Oh, that's right, he gave his wife a cabinet job, signed off on his Tax cut bill, helped him become Majority Leader in 2016 and 2018, and selected a lot of his judges.
I can see why Mitch hates him. /Sarcasm off/. Anyway he and McCarthy are now the "face of the Republican Party". And boy are we in trouble. What McConnell stand for? Nothing. As shown by the last 4 years, McConnell doesn't want to do anything except help Big Tech, and cut Corporate Taxes. That's it. Fight the Democrats? LOL. Make America Great Again? Nope. Cut the deficit? Stop joking. Secure the border? Nope. Smaller Government? Nope. He and McCarthy are complete and utter zeros. The D's want to got 50 MPH over the cliff, Mitch the Bitch wants to go 25 MPH. That's it.
Night Owl: "I've said it before: The sick, twisted need to destroy Trump will cause the Trump-haters to destroy themselves."
Not necessarily.
Because now, for the first time in human history, astonishing and overwhelming technology, media control and state institutional aparratuses exist to completely crush anyone unwilling to go along with the new American Soviets.
With the incremental steps needed to fully implement that program underway as we speak with a degree of openness on the part of these new Soviets that indicates absolute confidence this trajectory cannot be altered.
And they may be absolutely correct about that.
These global tools have never before existed and it may take generations for effective resistance to find a way to push back.
"1/2 of the members, and the Chair, pro Trump. Complete subpoena power for either 1/2 of the Commission. No use of the FBI, or anyone else part of the Executive Branch."
I agree that both sides should have subpoena party. Why should 1/2 the members be pro Trump? Not all Republicans are pro-Trump. As for not using the FBI or any other federal agency to help, whatever. The committee can hire its own investigators I guess. Just more costly.
The problem is that if they come out with a unanimous report that is critical of Trump in any way, you will find some excuse to disregard it. The "pro-Trump" members will suddenly become the deep state. Your playbook is getting old. The nature of a cult. The leader is always right, facts be damned.
Ok, I'll play- these are the 5 people I would trust to represent my side on this 10 person commission:
Jack Posobiec, Ted Cruz, Donald Trump Jr., Kurt Schlichter, General Michael Flynn.
And if you argue these people are not open minded enough to be on the commission- are too biased, i.e. too pro-Trump to be Republican commisioners- then you can go and stick your commission ideas up your independent ass.
I'd support an investigation if it will talk about the Murder of Ashli Babbitt. weird how NO ONE in the Conservative Talk Radio/Fox/Websites wants to talk about that. If she was antifa, every liberal newsite would be shouting her name from the rooftops. But the Center-right? Nothing. Radio Silence.
We could also also discuss why all the people DIRECTLY responsible for protecting the capital failed. And why The President suddenly became the only man responsible. OR we could talk about who planted those two pipe bombs THE NIGHT BEFORE. OR why so many of those who committed violence on Jan 6th turned out to be Antifa/BLM/Anarchist. Will Mitch the Bitch and Mittens make sure these questions get answered? HAHAHAHHA.

Just to remind everyone. Five people died at the jan 6th protest.
1 - murdered by the police

Keep talking about Trump and Orange Man Bad in DC, and it'll keep the D party unified and from turning inwards upon itself, and keep the newsmedia happy to chortle on about The Donald's existential abnormality, while in the background Biden's White House can quietly continue calling a lid on trying to run the country.
The commission must go at least until, say, late October 2022, at which point we can bring out the results and review ad nauseum all the terrible deeds and words of the Republicans and their sins of allying with the Bad Orange Man, so that voters will know how icky it would be to actually vote "R" in November.

Have any of you ever read Richard Feynman's description of his time working on the commission investigating the space shuttle Challenger explosion? It paints a pretty damning and convincing picture of governmental stupidity. The whole process was a complete sham, much like this one would be.

I ask. I wait.
They do investigations like this in the UK from time to time conducted by retired judges. For the most part they are fiascos.
Douglas Murray wrote a book about the Savile Inquiry into Bloody Sunday (January 30, 1972) in Derry, Northern Ireland. Launched by Tony Blair in 1998, the Savile Inquiry took 14 years because it was inseparable from contemporary politics and personalities (Martin McGuinness did a metaphoric fan dance for years over testifying). It cost between $260 million and $520 million.
Most of these inquiries end up as whitewashes.
I ask anyone to name even one government investigation in the past few years that actually found out anything.
Perhaps they can get enough information and evidence to impeach Donald Trump a third time, and this time make it stick? Yes, it sounds crazy, but you don't understand how bad the orange man is.
I've watched a lot of the video and just do not see the sort of actions and behaviors that justify this intense scrutiny. The reaction by nearly everyone that is part of the government and in the media is hysterical (not the funny sort). It turns out the only person killed as part of the events of January 6 is Ashli Babbitt. There is a very obvious lack of curiosity among all these people that want a bi-partisan blue ribbon commission to look into Ashli Babbitt's killer and the circumstances that ended in her being shoot and killed. Ping me when that changes, otherwise go screw with your investigation.

Interestingly, there is no interest in a commission to unearth all the details of the effort to “fortify” the election. That’s more important for our “democracy” going forward.
