"Thank you, Mr. President, for everything you’ve done.
It shouldn’t be ending this way, but I and 74 million other Americans just want to thank you for all your efforts on our behalf over the past four years, actually since you came down the escalator at Trump Tower back in the summer of 2015.
In no particular order:
Thank you for restoring the U.S. as the world’s leading producer of energy – after your predecessor sternly lectured us that we “couldn’t drill our way” out of our dependence on unstable Middle Eastern oil providers.
Thank you for the tax cuts for the middle class.
Thank you for destroying genocidal ISIS, which your predecessor called “the junior varsity.”
Thanks for shutting off the endless flow of illegal immigrants at the southern border, and the unending supply of MS-13 gangbangers, among other criminals, as well as the welfare-dependent illiterate indigents who were so destabilizing American society before you became president.
Thank you for calling out the endless hypocrisy of the media — what you so aptly described as “Very Fake News.”
Thank you for promoting economic policies that led to the lowest unemployment rates ever for blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans and women, among others.
Thank you for doing more to promote peace in the Middle East than all of your predecessors combined.
Thank you for calling out and exposing the feckless RINOs of your own party like Willard Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Kelly Ayotte, et al.
Thanks for finally standing up to Red China and its predatory trade practices.
Thanks for calling out Fox News Channel for its duplicitous descent into terminal wokeness.
Thank you for Operation Warp Speed, an amazing achievement for which you will never receive the appropriate credit.
Thanks for pardoning all the persecuted victims of the Russian collusion hoax, among them Gen. Michael Flynn and Roger Stone.
Thank you for eliminating Obamacare’s “individual mandate,” which fined individuals for not buying health insurance they didn’t want or couldn’t afford.
Thank you for taking more questions from (almost always hostile) reporters than all of the last three or four presidents combined.
Thanks for getting the U.S. out of such foreign policy disasters as the Iran nuclear deal, the Paris Climate Accords and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, as well as ending the fiasco for American workers that was NAFTA.
Thanks for such a booming economy that seven million people got off the food-stamp rolls.
Thanks for all those tweets that drove the Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) crazy.
Also, a personal note on Twitter: Thanks for the three tweets promoting my book, “What Really Happened: How Donald J. Trump Saved America from Hillary Clinton.”
As Donald Trump Jr. told me: “That’s two tweets more than he gave my book!”
......Thank you for not turning the IRS into an instrument of persecution against your political foes, the way your predecessor did.
Thanks for not surveilling reporters a la the Obama administration.
Thanks for ending state oppression against people of faith like the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Thank you for trying to defund “sanctuary cities” where illegals run amok.
Thanks for the three new justices on the Supreme Court — think how much worse Hillary’s picks would have been, and maybe someday they’ll grow the spines they so obviously lacked last month in Texas v. Pennsylvania.
Thank you for defanging North Korea and Little Rocket Man.
Thanks for opening up more of our North Atlantic waters for New England commercial fishermen and lobstermen.
Thanks for defending both the First and Second Amendments, and for railing against Section 230, which the billionaire fascists of Silicon Valley are abusing to shut down free speech.
Thank you for appointing U.S. attorneys who actually wanted to put real criminals in prison, without fear or favor.
Thanks for using the death penalty, when necessary, against the worst of the worst serial killers.
Thank you for the travel ban, which has largely halted the flow of terrorists like the Tsarnaevs, who had been welcomed into the U.S. and put on welfare by previous administrations, Democrat and Republican alike.
Thanks for the balance in my 401(k).
Thanks for the lowest gasoline prices in decades.
Thanks for the largest number of Americans with gainful employment since the government started keeping records.
Thank you for ordering the elimination of two of the most bloodthirsty terrorists on earth, al-Baghdadi and Gen. Soleimani.
To borrow a line from “The Last Hurrah,” “How do you thank a guy for a million laughs?”
Thanks for all the great nicknames — Crooked Hillary, Li’l Marco, Low Energy Jeb, etc.
Thanks for all the amazingly entertaining rallies, if not for bringing back the Village People’s “Macho Man” song.
Mr. President, I could go on and on and on, but all of us Deplorables and bitter clingers and credulous Boomer rubes just want you to know how much we appreciate the four years you gave us to prepare and fortify ourselves for the impending disaster ahead.
And, thank you Joe Biden for allowing that group of playful, horny teen boys who momentarily "identify as female" access to the girls bathroom and locker rooms.
One of the local news-tarts just told us that "While many Trump voters are still reeling in surprise, Joe Biden today signed executive orders to abolish everything bad forever."
OK, I made up the last five words, but it was similar.
An observation. My husband ordered some light bulbs on my Amazon account because I have Prime and free shipping. He cancelled it and moved over to his account to order them so he wouldn’t use up my reward points that I planned to use for a book. Surprise! The lightbulbs were less expensive on the non-Prime account. When shipping costs were added, they were the same price as on the Prime account. I guess the shipping isn’t really free.
How the left interprets it: Al Capone walking around the dinner table with a baseball bat motivating his lieutenants by saying TEAM! (The Untouchables 1987)
I'm blanking and will probably remember later tonight when I wake up to take a piss or something, but there was a movie that did a riff on that concept.
Full Moon laments: And, thank you Joe Biden for allowing that group of playful, horny teen boys who momentarily "identify as female" access to the girls bathroom and locker rooms.
And, if the 2021 Olympic Games will be put back yet another year, there will be even more males competing in female sports. It's an outrage! Women [real women] athletes should strike and refuse to compete against trans. Seriously.
Biden immediately screwed up with the "letting phony transsexual men into women's locker rooms thing. Biden does not know or care what he has done. Not a nice person, not someone with empathy.)
Per Undersecretary of State, Pelosi wanted crewed machine guns (Maybe Nazi MG-42s?) to help with security at Inaugural. Seems 25,000 troops (more than stormed Omaha Beach) weren't enough.
Anyway, she didn't ask for flamethrowers, nerve gas, Tanks or Helicopter Gun ships. So thank God for that.
Mitch McConnell wants to delay Trump's impeachment trial till February, to give him more time to prepare. Thank God, Trump has Mitch watching his back.
When 4 people were killed at Kent State, the National Guard was hated by the liberal elite of the day.
When 4 people were killed, including poor Ashli Babbit, the National Guard was called in by the liberal elite of the day.
I mourn the Capitol Police officers who died because of the incompetence of their leaders, but this is beyond Orwellian ---- way beyond Orwellian. He was a bright little guy, but even he could not have dreamed up this nasty scenario.
We know who assaulted the Capitol Police officer, resulting in his death, and we know that person will be charged, but we don't know who killed Ashli Babbitt.
If the killing of Ashli Babbit was a justified homicide, he will or will not be sued. If it was not justified, charges might or might not ensue.
I don't want him to be charged, based on what information we now have, but I want to know why a peaceful protester was shot dead.
AA insisted that the nation wait until Biden actually did something to be impeached.
Well, yesterday Biden took an oath to see that the laws were faithfully executed. In the day since, Biden has issued an executive order that the laws NOT be faithfully executed, but suspended upon his dictate.
The idiot mayor of SF claims that 100% of SFers will be vaccinated by June 30.
All "900000" of them.
1) there aren't 900,000 SFers, never were, and never will be as at least 10% of the 800ish k have left. 2) there won't be 100% of any population vaccinated.
Joe Biden signed an Executive Order mandating mask wearing on federal land and then promptly violated it himself. His press secretary said it was because he was celebrating.
He has received the vaccine already so I don't get why he is still wearing a mask anyway but that isn't the point. We are supposed to get the vaccine and still observe the same procedures, masks, social distancing etc. This seems weird. I wonder if it is just to condition us to be compliant as more mandates are rolled out.
Unlike other American cities, SF was ruined by the swarthy tomato eating Papists, the dirty Italians instead of the filthy pasty potato eating papists, the Irish.
Ashli's death is on you people. People like you contributed to the manufactured mass hysteria resulting in her and five others deaths. Bigmouth braggadocio Chickenhawk cowards. It's on You, the cheerleaders of the prematurely ejaculated coup.
Joe Biden signed an Executive Order mandating mask wearing on federal land and then promptly violated it himself. His press secretary said it was because he was celebrating.
Sally, you forgot to mention that the press secretary, Jen Psatki, was violating the mandate at the press conference.
For Madison folk, I remember as a teen buying consumer electronics from "Crazy TV Lenny"'s American TV store when my Dad taught me to ask for the price of the item without the "included free" item I had no need for.
Around half a million assembled. Several hundred at the capital. Several dozens who may and were not "Trump supporters" inside. An abortion in self-defense of a woman who did not pose a threat. One security office dead after a medical situation, perhaps blunt force trauma. Several loss of viability attributable to progressive medical conditions.
People like you contributed to the manufactured mass hysteria resulting in
17 trimesters of spying, collusion, obstruction, witch hunts, warlock trials, protests, 24/7 JournoListic braying and spinning yarns, social complexes, steering engines, and allegations of diversity to incite violence across the nation. Planned Parent/hood in Democrat jurisdictions and spreading social contagion to drive people to the primary path of infection and disease progression in medical facilities. Denying and stigmatizing early, inexpensive, low-risk treatments to increase hospitalization and reduce viability.
Well, if today's threads are any indication, for the next few years reading comments here is going to be like watching a 27-car pileup in extremely slow motion. Semi-histrionic, borderline hysteric.
One of the results of our political sorting and polarization is that each side relies on a caricature of the other to maintain its coalition. The other side isn't just wrong, it's evil. That's why for the last 25 years the members of the opposition party have expressed intense, over-the-top hatred and conspiratorial thinking for the occupant of the White House.
Ironically, as these partisan passions have burned so brightly, we've had broad bipartisan consensus on trade liberalization, mass immigration, and endless war. That is, the really important stuff. The two major political parties are part of the establishment and thus pose no real significant threat to the system. The neoliberal policies the GOP has supported for the last 40 years have greatly enriched the elite and placed them in an even more dominant position than they were in before.
The policies the GOP has supported since Reagan have had the effect of decimating white working class communities, while simultaneously enriching their cultural enemies. Believing that this is a partisan political issue that can be solved by one party dominating the other is precisely why the white working class has been losing for 40 years.
So instead of Canadian crude moving across the continent as safely and as cheaply as possible, we'll make them send it in tanker trucks and railcars. Biden is making petroleum more expensive and more dangerous just to score political points? No way...
Not mass. Irregularities, perhaps fraud, in several Democrat jurisdictions, not coincidentally in Atlanta of "every child left behind" fame. If a vote cannot be audited did an election happen? Demos-cracy is aborted in privacy, behind a wall, with a socially progressive policy.
Big Brother went about it all wrong. 2+2=5. To claim otherwise is a hate crime against the innumerate. To halt the divisions in our society it's important to take into account the just grievances of the innumerate and let their voices be heard. There are greater truths than mathematical certainty.
16 trimesters of overlapping and converging interests in wars without borders, transnational terrorism, labor and environmental arbitrage, [catastrophic] [anthropogenic] immigration reform (e.g. anti-immigration reform, Green blight/environmentalism, political congruence, diversity, witch hunts, 24/7 JournoListic braying and warlock trials (e.g. trial by press), protests, cancellation, and planned parenthood/selective-child and other socially progressive policies, forward-looking, a return to normal.
Not only are masks NOT required for democratical protesters, because our lefties told us Covid could differentiate between "mythical" antifa and morally jystified BLM city burners/cop killers (ACAB!, right Howard?) all known since last spring, but now we know that as long as you are partyin' celebratin' democraticals you are good to go!
Wait, there's more!
Trump's Warp Speed program which was horribly horribly inadequate just 48 hours ago has been rebranded as Biden's plan and is now magically wonderfully sufficient! Hooray!
But wait, there's more!
Just today the WHO released NEW testing guidelines which will result in massively reduced testing globally which will result in massively reduced confirmed cases! So our case load will magically dropped! What an amazing coincidence!
But wait, there's more!
Amazon waited until just today to "volunteer" their distribution network to assist in the logistics effort!! What fortunate timing indeed and absolutely independent of any outside cobsiderations!
Huzzah!
But wait, there's more!
Studies are now being released by all the usual suspects that lockdowns aren't effective after all! Gee, that is fortuitous timing!
But wait, there's more!
Big city democratical mayors and their dem govenors are "suddenly" calling for businesses to open back up. A decision they did not come to lightly most certainly and no doubt solely as a result of following the "science".
Trump's team developed the vaccine faster than Biden's team is going to roll it out. March to July and Moderna vaccine goes into clinical trials; March to August for Pfizer. Why slow? Because the media can never say that Biden's team is incompetent or DeBlasio's New York City team is incompetent and so errors will never be corrected and new data will never be absorbed. That's the price you pay for one party rule and control of the media in East North Korea.
"Big city democratical mayors and their dem govenors are "suddenly" calling for businesses to open back up."
It is known (although not necessarily acknowledged publicly) by everyone that big city democraticals can get dead voters to the polls to vote. It remains to be seen if they can get dead businesses to reopen.
As we look back on the Trump administration, it is important to realize that it wasn't just the leftists (like our Resident Idiot) who were freaked out by his election. It was establishment Republicans and Democrats.
The Mueller Persecution and the Schiff Soviet-style Impeachment investigation were attempts to control Trump BY BOTH PARTIES. His success as POTUS was disturbing to these people. Hence, the craziness and obsessive Trump hatred. Some Republicans hid it better than others. The usual fools were simply the usual fools.
I have to give Mittens credit for being relatively honest. Others were sabotaging Trump behind the scenes. Many were playing the game to get their agenda passed (Cocaine Mitch) and many pretended to be in his camp (Lindsey Graham). Most were hiding and waiting for him to lose (Burr, Sasse, McSally, Murkowski, Collins, etc).
Are we better off with these people in Congress and Slow Joe in the WH?
Rt41Rebel: "So instead of Canadian crude moving across the continent as safely and as cheaply as possible, we'll make them send it in tanker trucks and railcars. Biden is making petroleum more expensive and more dangerous just to score political points? No way..."
Wait! It gets even "better".
In his hearing today Mayor Pete clearly signaled the Biden administration will ve rescinding a rule that allowed expanded liquid natural gas transportation by rail!
Great job Howard!
But wait, there's more!
Happily accepting his role as an even larger Putin/Xi cuckholster Dementia Joe signed off on a ban for all new fracking on public lands as well as rescinding unused current permits....and you can believe that private fracking will soon be in the crosshairs.
And coal will be completely shut down so we can return to the obama good old days of ChiCom IMPORTED coal into the US.
So what did Mayor Pete offer up as a replacement for all that?
Hydroelectric!!
LOLOLOLOL
But also many many millions of unspecified, never to materialize magical "green jobs"...just like from 2009 to 2916 when we had 8 straight years of non-existent Summer's of Recovery.
High fives all around in Beijing, Moscow, Tehran and Pyonyang tonight amigos.
Well, of course they violated their own masking rule. What good is having the power to issue rules if you have to follow them yourself?
I tossed all my masks into the trash this morning. Done wearing them anywhere. They will have to throw me out of the grocery store if they don't want me in there without a mask.
This was something that was general knowledge in the medical community last March. We had to do a new study to demonstrate that the lockdown idiots were, in fact, idiots- useful for only one thing, but we know the why, don't we?
"What good is having the power to issue rules if you have to follow them yourself?" said democrat mayors and governors across the country for the past year.
The Fourth Horseman of eugenics, the fourth type of eugenics, 21st century eugenics is sociogenomics - eugenics as social justice. Racism causes stress, stress causes damage to the amgdyla and other neurocenters which leads to impulsive risky behavior aka crime and drug abuse. But these people can be identified by age three and placed on a drug regime, says the person leading the National Academy of Science Board on Behavioral, Cognitive, and Sensory Sciences. see ADULTS WITH THE MOST COSTLY PROBLEMS COULD BE SPOTTED IN PRESCHOOL https://today.duke.edu/2016/12/adults-most-costly-problems-could-be-spotted-preschool
And maybe someone is going to propose that multiracial white Americans, the Mutt Party Toxics, causing that stress because of inner multiracial-white-evilness could be re-educated? meanwhile working in factories making shoes for better Americans, thus working themselves free of BadPast. No. Uh, uh. Way too conspiratorial. Good ol' Joe would never be for that. Nor the person in charge of civil rights. Won't happen. That's not normalcy.
I had my first covid vaccine shot earlier this week, the morning of Jan. 20 (THANK YOU PRESIDENT TRUMP!). I'm scheduled for my second shot in three weeks (PLEASE DON'T SCREW THAT UP PRESIDENT BIDEN!)
"Well, if today's threads are any indication, for the next few years reading comments here is going to be like watching a 27-car pileup in extremely slow motion. Semi-histrionic, borderline hysteric"
Shut the fuck up. I don't care to be judged by you and your phony, lofty, "I'm above it all" attitude. You've been very hysterical on any number of threads. Leave and go somewhere else, if you don't like it here.
Can you imagine how intensely Biden and the Howards and the LLR-lefty Chuck's (all of Team Left actually) are champing at the bit to shove massively increased taxes onto US middle and working class families to fund the likely 30 million illegals they are going to amnesty?
This is just more of the bullshit the left always plays. when they complain its "Righteous outrage" when anyone else does its "whining". If George Floyd is killed "OMG, the tragedy, black lives matter, etc. etc" If a trump supporter is murdered its time for black humor and lofty comments about "hysteria". If some (maybe) Trump supporters walk into the Capital Building its an "insurrection" "Domestic Terrorism" while Antifa/BLM violence is a "peaceful protest" or "Democracy in action".
The same old bullshit & dishonesty. As for Howard he's still upset that Zuckerberg hasn't sent him the dick pictures he asked for. Don't worry Howard, he'll let you suck his dick. We know you want to.
J Farmer: You said it. The system runs on anxiety, paranoia and hatred. No wonder people reach for a benzo with a bourbon back.
The white working class is right to be anxious. They are a declining presence in American social and political life and are finally beginning to wake up to this reality. Unfortunately, it's one of those issues where by the time you notice, it's too late.
The issues didn't just appear out of nowhere. Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. wrote The Disuniting of America: Reflections on a Multicultural Society in 1991. Peter Brimelow wrote Alien Nation: Common Sense About America's Immigration Disaster in 1995. So while Republicans were hyperventilating about the Clinton scandal of the week, the actually consequential things were going on right under their noses.
Blogger The Cracker Emcee Refulgent said... Rioting in Seattle tonight. Pretty sure it isn’t Deplorables. -- Apparently the Antifa attempts at a soccer league have failed to provide relief. "I'm not joking!"
"Unlike other American cities, SF was ruined by the swarthy tomato eating Papists, the dirty Italians instead of the filthy pasty potato eating papists, the Irish."
Gosh i remember that newt was for prop 187 and other measures, but the courts said it would be fine not to deal with that. Clinton made a whole bunch of illegals citizens in that interim period.
Gosh i remember that newt was for prop 187 and other measures, but the courts said it would be fine not to deal with that. Clinton made a whole bunch of illegals citizens in that interim period.
Gosh, I remember that Ronald Reagan signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1986. And Clinton signed the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act in 1996. And George W. Bush supported the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 but luckily it did not pass. The bipartisan "Gang of Eight" tried a new comprehensive reform (ie amnesty) in 2013 but fortunately Jeff Sessions helped kill it.
Just the other day, Althouse informed us that America registered its disgust over women being forced to watch a strip show:
Ann Althouse said... "As for strippers in elite culture, remember that the 1967 movie "The Graduate" had a scene in which the main character deliberately degrades a young woman by subjecting her to a strip show. The woman cries and the man knows he's been an absolute jerk, and millions of Americans completely got it. Back in 1967. That was 14 years before that Stanford party.
Spare me the bullshit. ********************
Well, here we are, with this bit of salaciousness from a female journo who went willingly to a strip club, and "got off" with the help of a female stripper, right there in the club:
The white working class can take credit for building a country that people want to move to. Third world revolutionaries on the other hand....Nativism is not such a uniformly bad thing. The Know Nothing Party were, in the north, abolitionists and many were suffragists. They didn't hate immigrants so much as Papists. Hatred of Cathoics used to be an honored and revered part of the Anglo-Saxon character. All that's gone by the wayside. Prejudice is an immutable and undying part of human nature, but different prejudices go in and out of fashion. I don't think there's all that much anti-Catholic prejudice in America anymore. That kind of over the top hatred is reserved for Trump voters.
I just saw "Nicholas And Alexandra". This was large scale production of Robert Massie's history of the same name. The movie tried to go all David Lean and Dr. Zhivago on the doomed Romanovs, but the movie never quite clicked....The movie was made in 1971. The expensive sets looked like expensive sets and not like palaces. I've become quite discriminating in my taste for palaces. I think most of the recent shows about royalty were filmed in real palaces. Real palaces are much more impressive than movie sets....All the performances were credible, but none stood out. Rasputin should stand out like a flash of lightening, but here he was played by an actor whose big credit later on was appearing as Dr. Who....Here's an example of how prejudices change over time: To illustrate how decadent the Russian aristorcracy were there's a scene where a man dresses as a woman and dances seductively in front of his fellow aristocrats. A shocking display: not of decadence but of transphobia. No wonder the movie bombed at the box office.
Under the first three years of Trump, the lowest income quintile saw a 10.8% income gain. Under Obama, their income was slightly negative.
Furthermore, since 1967 the lowest quintile has only seen a 42% gain in income-and a quarter of that was under Trump.
TH bottom four quintiles did better under three years of Trump than they did under eight years of Obama.
Despite the economic interruption caused by the pandemic, I'd bet the bottom quintile does better under four years of Trump than four years of Biden/Harris.
Prejudice is an immutable and undying part of human nature, but different prejudices go in and out of fashion. I don't think there's all that much anti-Catholic prejudice in America anymore.
I agree that many people underestimate the degree and depth of anti-Catholic sentiment in US history. It was still common in the early 20th century to deride Democrats as a party of "rum, Romanism, and rebellion," and the KKK was burning Catholic churches in the 1920s. It's really only been since the start of the culture war in the 70s that Catholics and evangelical Protestants have found common cause. Probably the last vestige of anti-Catholic bigotry in the US is among the AIDS activists of the 1980s.
Religion is the opiate of the ruling class. From what I read in the Massie book and elsewhere, the Romanov family really were devout in their faith and it was a comfort to them in their captivity in the days before their execution. The movie downplayed this.....I'm not sure if the Czar deserves credit for his piety. He was God's anointed ruler of all the Russians. Piety in such a case was akin to self worship....In any event, Czar Nicholas in his domestic life was a good father and a faithful husband. He was a spectacularly bad Czar, however.....I'd like to be around for the Last Judgement, just to see how God weighs these different people in the scales.....We give Churchill high marks for standing alone and standing up to Hitler, but that's only because Hitler was Hitler and England went on to win the war....King George III was also indomitable. After the defeat of Cornwallis, he wanted to continue the war. Lord North had to advise him that Pariament would no longer apportion money for such a war....The super power of the Hanovers that has enabled them to survive--as opposed to that of the Romanovs--is that they did not have any superpowers when it came to directing the government.
I was raised as a Catholic. There's a fair amount of anti-Catholicism among Catholics. The Church really screwed up in those child abuse scandals I have a friend who's an Italian Catholic and his adult children now go to an Evangelical church.
Despite the economic interruption caused by the pandemic, I'd bet the bottom quintile does better under four years of Trump than four years of Biden/Harris.
Wage growth at the bottom is undoubtedly good news, and I think it's partly attributable to Trump's reduction in immigration and to rising state minimum wage laws. Undoubtedly a looser immigration policy will put downward pressure on low-skilled wages. That's why the business community likes it.
However, given the limited scope a president has for influencing an enormous globalized economy, we should be cautious in attributing the cause of econometrics to anything a president has done. For example, many of the economic indicators during the first three years of Trump's term were in line with the last three years of Obama's term because of larger macroeconomic trends. China's savings and US Federal Reserve policy, for example.

Oh, bullshit.
China didn't save more money because of Obama, and you don't tell us how that "helped" the US economy.
The Fed's policies didn't pull us out of the economic doldrums while Obama was in office. All you've done is look back at "trends" and pretended that they were inexorable.
So Democrats were the party of Romanism and the KKK...interesting.
Don't make the mistake of projecting a contemporary conception of the parties into the past. There was no top-down national parties at the time. They were cobbled together from various regional factions. In the 1920s, issues like prohibition and the KKK were extremely divisive within the party. If you're interested, check out the 1924 Democratic National Convention. It was wild.
Joe Smith said... So Democrats were the party of Romanism and the KKK...interesting.
If you live in heavily evangelical areas, there is plenty of anti-Catholic sentiment.
If you live in heavily Catholic areas- there is a lot of anti-evangelical animus. Well, actually, if you live in any area with without a lot of evangelicals. Then. there's anti-Mormon animus. When we lived in El Cajon and my wife was a Cub leader for one requirement the Cubs had to go to some sort of historical monument or place. We ourselves had not been to the Mormon Battalion Historic Site. Before she had a chance to suggest it, she overheard some of the other mothers talking about Mormons- and decided against suggesting it....
Believe it or not- there's a lot of religious animus and bigotry in the United States. Much more common than racial bigotry. Why people have felt comfortable over the years telling me about their dislike for one religious group or another is beyond me- but they have. Right now the most animus is towards muslims, but then, they give us good reason to harbor it. Honestly, if you were wearing a Crucifix on a chain- would you feel more comfortable and safe with a Jewish or a muslim nurse or doctor? How about a Star of David? Southern Baptist or Muslim? You know the answer.
China didn't save more money because of Obama, and you don't tell us how that "helped" the US economy.
First, learn to read. I did not say they saved "because of Obama." I said the exact opposite. Second, the "China's savings" reference was not saving "more" but that their savings rate has decreased, though it is still very large by global standards. The US takes in nearly half the globe's excessive savings.
The Fed's policies didn't pull us out of the economic doldrums while Obama was in office. All you've done is look back at "trends" and pretended that they were inexorable.
Yes, it did. There was economic growth from mid-2009 to early-2020. Annualized GDP growth was not significantly higher under Trump's first three years as compared to Obama's last three years. A lot of this is due to structural constraints on the economy that neither Obama nor Trump can do anything about.
The president hurt many people. His failed leadership left us rudderless during a deadly pandemic. . . . His racism, as old and as white as the US Capitol itself, brought out the worst in the political right.
But what will it mean for American democracy, facing surely its greatest test since the Civil War? There might be unrest ahead. There might be more pain.
But ideas last longer. And there is no philosophy, no idea that will outlive Trump. We must acknowledge and overcome the violence and anger that he stoked, stop the terrorists that he’s armed, but Trump’s ideas won’t endure. Because he didn’t have any.
It is well accepted historically that in the 1960 election voter fraud was used by LBJ and Daley to steal the election from Nixon. In 2020 it is now inconceivable that voter fraud can occur and you are a quasi criminal if you claim so. The question becomes, at what point in time during this period did elections become immaculate, and what drove it. Did we have more controls to validate those who registered? Did we match records to remove the dead from voter rolls? Do we match signatures? ID cards? Do we permit vote counting to be resumed after observers have been sent home?
I would assume that once voter fraud was established in the 1960’s there would be no motivation to give up that power? Voter fraud can turn an election. Why? Because it did at least once. Whether it did in 2020 is unknown. I would not invest in a company that refused to audit the books. Likewise I am not too invested in elections that don’t have a public way to trace who voted, not how they voted but who.
Since when did we suddenly begin to believe a single financial document issued by DJT for DJT and the Trump Organization?
Financial disclosure forms, filed by the former president as he left office, revealed that his hotels, resorts and other properties had lost more than $120 million in revenue last year, as the pandemic forced long-term closures and kept customers home.
Those losses were worst in the places where Trump could least afford it: His Washington hotel, which has a $170 million loan outstanding, saw revenue drop more than 60 percent. His Doral resort in Miami — also carrying a huge debt load — saw a 44 percent drop.
The picture emerging shows the inversion of Trump’s fortunes since 2015, when he entered politics promising to remake the country in the image of his growing, swaggering business.
Now, Trump returns to a business remade in the image of the country he led: beleaguered, indebted and toxically politicized.
Trump’s ideas won’t endure. Because he didn’t have any.
I would rephrase that slightly to say that Trump has no ideology. He is not particularly principled and doesn't really have an analytic approach to the world. He seems much more driven by emotion and interpersonal relationships.
In a lot of ways, Trump is a very Reaganesque figure. He has a traditional, patriotic love for the country, sees it in a downtrodden state, and wants to restore it to a former place of glory. And like his predecessor, Trump greatly overestimated how much could be achieved by any single president. And Trump had tremendous problems with staffing.
Trump's lack of clear ideological commitments probably ended up helping. What motivated Trump in many ways was purely a desire to get a positive response from his base. Twitter and cable news were proxies for this information. If something wasn't working, Trump would be fine with dropping it and trying something else. Much of the responsibility for implementing (and in fact developing) much of the agenda went to Jared Kushner.
Blogger Josephbleau said... It is well accepted historically that in the 1960 election voter fraud was used by LBJ and Daley to steal the election from Nixon.
Sorry Joe - you just might be wrong about your hysterical history - beginning with JFK opposing Tricky Dick in the 1960 presidential election and ending with Illinois not casting the decisive electoral vote in that election.
Kennedy won 303 electoral votes; his Republican opponent Richard Nixon won 219. If Illinois’s 27 electoral votes shifted from Kennedy to Nixon, Kennedy would still have won, with 276 votes to Nixon’s 246.
Blogger Howard said... "Ashli's death is on you people. People like you contributed to the manufactured mass hysteria resulting in her and five others deaths. Bigmouth braggadocio Chickenhawk cowards. It's on You, the cheerleaders of the prematurely ejaculated coup." Howard is sooo cute when he tries to act tough. His "I'm your moral superior!" stance. In his cargo shorts and little cape and his cowboy boots. For Howard history began on Jan. 20. Let's remind master Howard that the country spent the last four years subjected to his progressive hatred and violence of Trump in particular and conservatives in general. Time to man up little man. It's all yours. deal with it. Hero.
An unarmed protester, climbing through a window, is shot and killed by law enforcement. In the ensuing days, what comes from the protesting crowd? Burning of cities? Nope. Torching police cars? Nope. Just questions.
Recall when an inner-city person is killed while charging a cop. What happens? The city is on fire, the cop is ID'd and vilified. The mayor apologizes. And the media leads the charge.
I see that Farmer is back to his rhetorical tricks, cherry picked facts, and facts that are made up to fit the argument, all wrapped in an utter certitude of his wisdom and intelligence. If you want to find enough commentators weak-minded enough to buy what you’re selling, Farmer, you’ll need to go comment on a left wing blog.
J. Farmer is over the target with immigration. It’s the sole reason Trump defeated Ted Cruz and a dozen others in 2016. We slowly became aware that anyone who walked into Club for Growth’s closed door meetings walked out indebted to billionaires whose overarching ideology is pure open borders whether they are left, right, or center. Fewer knew then that the Kochs’ first choice was Jeb Bush. The entire libertarian alternative is a mirage at the top. Not the bottom, but the top. And that’s why third parties are very hard to start: they’re already manipulated by the same people dominating both major Parties. The Kochs wanted their open borders since the 1970s, and now we start to see that Steve Bannon prioritized his billionaire Hong Kong pals over the citizens’ movement he pretends to represent here.
Occam’s Razor. The Kochs panicked when Trump rose and put everything they had into Cruz and Rubio. Cruz, who is about as decent as a person can be at the federal level, had the decency to look miserable about betraying the base, but hey, Master’s Voice. Rubio is a dirty little sleaze and acted it — and got hissed and booed off stage by thousands in Orlando when the Kochs tried to rehabilitate him one time too many.
That’s when the Kochs first went public with their decision to work more openly with Democrats and Soros. Now it’s entirely out in the open. J. Farmer is also right that the white working and middle-classes have no friends in Washington. Nor anywhere else. Not with AFP, not with TEA, not with War-Room. The self-loathing and rank acceptance of brainwashing of their children I see among my generation is the end of America. These things only go in one direction. Trump fought a pretty good fight despite his flaws, but the GOP immigration wing plus the DNC immigration wing plus the Libertarian immigration wing plus the Left immigration wing plus the Centrist immigration wing destroyed him.
Is there anyone else left to pick up the $10,000 bill lying on the ground of American politics, as Ann Coulter put it?
William: Peter the Great, also documented by Massie, was equally devout* but was quite obviously a different type of personality and arguably Russia's best Czar.
Tina@6:33, interesting post. While I didn't like Cruz during the primaries, I came to respect him in the years since. Would have liked to have seen him as AG.
"If you live in heavily Catholic areas- there is a lot of anti-evangelical animus."
I have a relative in Colorado in a predominantly evangelical city. She heard some Protestant moms from her kid's school talking about 'the Catholics' in less than glowing terms...why they were still around, etc.
She was upset and told me about it. I told her to 'Tell them we were here first' and that they're the interlopers.
Politico reported that thousands of National Guard troops had been “forced to vacate congressional grounds” and had taken “their rest breaks outside and in nearby parking garages, after two weeks of sleepless nights protecting the nation’s capital in the wake of the violent assault on Jan. 6.”
Abrupt orders forced a unit out of the Dirksen Senate Office building on Thursday. “The group was forced to rest in a nearby parking garage without internet reception, with just one electrical outlet, and one bathroom with two stalls for 5,000 troops,” Politico reported.
“Yesterday dozens of senators and congressmen walked down our lines taking photos, shaking our hands and thanking us for our service. Within 24 hours, they had no further use for us and banished us to the corner of a parking garage. We feel incredibly betrayed,” a National Guardsman told Politico.
"Thank you for your service." Don't let the doorknob hit you in the ass on the way out."
My long-deceased Italian grandfather (from Italy) used to say, 'If you ever need a doctor or a lawyer, get a chink or a Jew.'
My college roommate had a father who was an old real estate developer who, ,like Trump, had gone broke a couple of times and recovered. Fortunately for my roommate, he ended up on top. He would only have Mormons for doctors, lawyers and accountants.
There is a funny Eddie Murphy movie, whose title I can't remember any more, where Murphy is in jail and a black public defender shows up as his lawyer. Murphy says "I don't want no affirmative action lawyer. Get me a Jew !"
We watched another Murphy movie last night that could not be made or even shown today, "Trading Places."
Tina Trent, as usual, you speak "Heap Big Medicine"! (And NO apologies for the supposed doubleplus ungood, nonPC, use of a time-honored appelation--what the "Woke" elements of our society now regard as a racial/ethnic "slur".)
I see that Farmer is back to his rhetorical tricks, cherry picked facts, and facts that are made up to fit the argument, all wrapped in an utter certitude of his wisdom and intelligence.
Wow, now we have religious wars! So far, in this country, we have the right to attend the church of our choice, believe in what creeds we choose and the freedom to be an atheist. While I've enjoyed a little doctrinal back-and-forth with Young Hegelian, who is a staunch Catholic, and I a Calvinist Protestant, we didn't insult each other.
Sure Joe. Sure. I know thinking that makes you feel better. But... Still nothing about your corrupt political machines that ruined America's cities. Because you know it's true.
Boss Ed Crump of Memphis, an Episcopalian, was actually not all that corrupt in the context of American city machines; he was also not Irish; his main man Frank Rice united the Irish and Italian Catholic demos, who formed a significant bloc, in his person. But the ruination of the city--from which it has recovered nicely, thank you--took place long after the Crump machine was a rusting hulk.
Here's a joke told to me about 1974 or so by my wife's paternal grandfather, who had served in the 30th Div (Old Hickory) artillery in the AEF in France--verbatim.
[WARNING: Contains ethnic stereotyping and offensive language]
"What do you have five minutes after the sergeant comes through the recruit barracks asking for four volunteers who can type?"
Recovered from what? the 8th circle of hell up to the 7th?
Memphis is regularly not just top 10, but top 5 in violent crime rankings. I recall at least in recent history it was top 5 in cities' unfunded pension liabilities.
Memphis is a shithole. Yeah, I've been there. It's a shithole.
Recovered from the poorly-planned Federal Urban Renewal (a.k.a. Negro Removal) Projects and post-MLK-murder hollowing out of downtown business and residential areas, for one thing.
It's well known, BTW, that Memphis has always been the poorest big city in the country, so yeah, the crime stats are pretty grim, but OTOH I've had a nice life here--the CoL is low in comparison-- and look forward to some more years of it.

We’ll be back, Mr. President, and so will you."

Who killed the unarmed Ashli Babbitt?
Joe Biden: "Unity"
How the left interprets it: Al Capone walking around the dinner table with a baseball bat motivating his lieutenants by saying TEAM! (The Untouchables 1987)
That is a fantastically creepy Poe story.
I'm blanking and will probably remember later tonight when I wake up to take a piss or something, but there was a movie that did a riff on that concept.
Kent State, 4 dead, Pulitzer prizes for all. That was then, this is now.
Who killed innocent Ahsli Babbitt?
I don't want the guy charged, but I want him to never have the chance again to kill an innocent American protester.
All we know right now is that she was apparently Killed IN COLD BLOOD because she wanted to take pictures of protesters milling around.
Seriously.
"But she's on TV, and I'm not, so . . ."
ummm... you're not a tart?
Biden immediately screwed up with the "letting phony transsexual men into women's locker rooms thing.

Why did Amazon wait until the moment Joementia took office to offer their services to deliver the vaccine?
How many people died in the interim?

Seriously, what could Biden have done on his first day in office to harm more innocent people than he did?
Per Undersecretary of State, Pelosi wanted crewed machine guns (Maybe Nazi MG-42s?) to help with security at Inaugural. Seems 25,000 troops (more than stormed Omaha Beach) weren't enough.
Anyway, she didn't ask for flamethrowers, nerve gas, Tanks or Helicopter Gun ships. So thank God for that.
Oh, that's lovely.
launch codes?
Alshi Babbitt is still dead. We don't know who her killer is, and there's no evidence he's being brought to justice.
But that's OK. I still have my George Floyd, "I can't breathe" button, plus tapes of his 4 national tV funerals, so everything's Jake.
Once again, who killed Ashli Babbitt, and why?
We know who assaulted the Capitol Police officer, resulting in his death, and we know that person will be charged, but we don't know who killed Ashli Babbitt.
If the killing of Ashli Babbit was a justified homicide, he will or will not be sued.
If it was not justified, charges might or might not ensue.
I don't want him to be charged, based on what information we now have, but I want to know why a peaceful protester was shot dead.
Is that too much to ask in a free country?
AA insisted that the nation wait until Biden actually did something to be impeached.
Well, yesterday Biden took an oath to see that the laws were faithfully executed. In the day since, Biden has issued an executive order that the laws NOT be faithfully executed, but suspended upon his dictate.
Not a single day before he violated his oath.
I'm curious, Is ISIS going to be ISIL again? I want to make sure I use the correct one.
400,000 dead and the economy in the toilet. But thank you Mr. Former President for pardoning Roger Stone.

It appears Chuck has been dethroned.
Unlike other American cities, SF was ruined by the swarthy tomato eating Papists, the dirty Italians instead of the filthy pasty potato eating papists, the Irish.
As for Joe violating the mask order, it'd be better if he said, screw you, I've been RonaVaxxed and immune.
But he's too stupid for that.
Cancelling the Keystone Pipeline is just what a Putin supporter would do. I'm sure Colbert will come up with a pithy nickname for Biden now.

Completely different partisupular function
"Keystone is Canadian crude."
So instead of Canadian crude moving across the continent as safely and as cheaply as possible, we'll make them send it in tanker trucks and railcars. Biden is making petroleum more expensive and more dangerous just to score political points? No way...
he manufactured mass hysteria
Not mass. Irregularities, perhaps fraud, in several Democrat jurisdictions, not coincidentally in Atlanta of "every child left behind" fame. If a vote cannot be audited did an election happen? Demos-cracy is aborted in privacy, behind a wall, with a socially progressive policy.
Pipelines Don't Work!
What an informative day!

What an informative day indeed.....

On December 2, with the covid deaths at 272,000 Joe said another 250,000 would die of covid before the new year.
Wow! I just realized President Trump saved over 100,000 live in less than a month! Is there anything President Trump can not do?

Doesn't that make it "mostly peaceful protesting", then?

"I don't think there's all that much anti-Catholic prejudice in America anymore."
Maybe you weren't paying attention to DavidUW at 7:44pm.
"The white working class can take credit for building a country that people want to move to."
Everyone knows that blacks and only blacks built this country. Get with the program.
Farmer-
Under the first three years of Trump, the lowest income quintile saw a 10.8% income gain.
@William:
Biden will have to actively try to fuck things up to tank the economy.
Trillions will be pumped into the economy and the vaccine will be rolled out.
It's a recipe for a skyrocketing economy.
He won't have to do anything.
Let's see if he tries to mess it up. Killing the pipeline is one way..
So Democrats were the party of Romanism and the KKK...interesting.
If you live in heavily evangelical areas, there is plenty of anti-Catholic sentiment.
I was raised as a Catholic. There's a fair amount of anti-Catholicism among Catholics. The Church really screwed up in those child abuse scandals I have a friend who's an Italian Catholic and his adult children now go to an Evangelical church.
@MartyH:

@Joe Smith:
'If you told me four years ago that Trump’s successor would enter the White House wearing a face mask I would have said, “Yeah, sounds about right.”
Joe Smith said...

@wholelottasplainin':
Oh, bullshit.
China didn't save more money because of Obama, and you don't tell us how that "helped" the US economy.
"Are these men going to hurt us, Walter? No, Donny, not anymore. These men are cowards."
Now, Trump returns to a business remade in the image of the country he led: beleaguered, indebted and toxically politicized.
https://www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2021/01/sooner-or-later-youve-got-to-face-the-big-light

No, they were "checking in" to ;parking lots to sleep since they were no longer needed for the photo op.

Memphis? Recovered?
Surely you jest.
"What do you have five minutes after the sergeant comes through the recruit barracks asking for four volunteers who can type?"
In my days, the question was "Who has a drivers' license ?" Those that volunteered ended peeling potatoes. No more KP in Obama's army.
Althouse must be getting lots of spam with this new "robot" checkoff.
Golly, DavidUW, I'm sorry you feel that way.
Recovered from the poorly-planned Federal Urban Renewal (a.k.a. Negro Removal) Projects and post-MLK-murder hollowing out of downtown business and residential areas, for one thing.
It's well known, BTW, that Memphis has always been the poorest big city in the country,
so yeah, the crime stats are pretty grim, but OTOH I've had a nice life here--the CoL is low in comparison-- and look forward to some more years of it.

YMMV

We know who assaulted the Capitol Police officer, resulting in his death, and we know that person will be charged, but we don't know who killed Ashli Babbitt.
Once the killer has been given a new identity and relocated, you will learn his old identity.
It’s sort of odd to get worked up about Catholics and Memphis.
