Remember when the village people — the Village People?! — drank vegetable soup from your cupped hands?

Tala Schlossberg remembers.

Schlossberg is the daughter of Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg and yet I am not making fun of her. This video is actually really good! The story and the animation are credited to Scholossberg, and it's a funny journey into nostalgia and what we're really missing from pre-COVID times:

Can't the Kennedys, Clintons, Bushes and Obamas just go away? Like forever?

Maybe I'm too impatient these days, but that NPR-voice was a complete turnoff. I couldn't make the 1-min mark.

This depresses me. It was a Times Video. As in NYT. God, how could I fail to appreciate a young (?) woman's humor in NYT. Don't tell anybody please!!

I Have Misplaced My Pants म्हणाले...

Talking about the before times means you aren’t Taking It Seriously Enough and is disrespectful to the 300,000 dead and the exhausted health care workers. Or so I’m told.

BarrySanders20 म्हणाले...

I miss my pre-covid Serbian warlord activities too.
The voice was annoying. I would have to tell her to shut up if she was nearby in person and insisted on monologuing in a voice like the delicious Schweddy Balls routine.

Hugs are overrated, like Kennedys.

I also couldn't take more than 40 seconds because of her voice. Question for those who could plow through_____>

Does she ever question why we are missing normal life?
Who is making us do these things?
Why do people allow this?
What can we do about it?
Is there ever going to be an end to this?

Mike of Snoqualmie म्हणाले...

It's the NYT, Ann. I miss the before times when the health "experts" actually did their jobs, rather than dump on Trump and Republicans. When we had more honest elections. When antifa and BLM didn't trash Portland and Seattle. When officials of said cities actually enforced the law and prosecuted shoplifters, thieves and rioters. When officials kept the parks open for residents instead of the homeless.

Those were the good ol' times.

Temujin म्हणाले...

Can't we just have 1 Kennedy/Clinton/Obama/Kerry/Bush free year? Just one. No kids, no parents, none of them at all?

I'm sure we could fine one or two fine people around America who are not from the same Elitist families who have been handed their wealth for reasons no one can actually fathom. Heinz ketchup?

I Have Misplaced My Pants म्हणाले...

Is a hug worth a dead grandmother, Althouse????????? Unlike you I CARE ABOUT OTHERS.

Lewis Wetzel म्हणाले...

The old world was shattered, not by a virus, but the flailing response to the virus by incompetent, self-interested politicians.
In New York we see what the corrupt Cuomo does when he is given power over all of the lives of New Yorkers.
In Cali we see what the lap-poodle Newsom does when he is given power over all of the lives of Californians.
This is not people reacting to a crisis in the best way that they can; it is their id revealed: what is not forbidden is mandatory. Every interaction with your fellow citizens must be filtered through the mandates of venal, psychotic politicians.
This world is heaven to the American Left.

wild chicken म्हणाले...

Yeah the hugging I can do without. That seemed to start up in the 90s. What gives.

MayBee म्हणाले...

I was thinking yesterday that we need a "You're doing a good job during a hard time, America!" speech.

Since March we've been shut away to varying degrees, watched our livelihoods dwindle, watched people suffer both with illness and with the effects of the lockdowns. WE've been told to stay away from our loved ones for our major family holidays. We have plexiglass barriers everywhere we go and marks on the floor to stand away from others.

And yet all we hear is "You aren't masking hard enough! People are getting sick! You are doing something wrong! This is your fault for not staying away from your grandma!" It's wearing. It's divisive. Yeah, there are people who aren't following the rules. That's how it goes. There is no such thing as 100% of the people doing what they should do. But for those of us who are, who have seen the toll its taking, can't we get a little "thank you"?

And I don't mean the empty crap from my Governor who says stuff like "I know this is hard. I too would love to be able to do xyz again" Because she's the one making the rules, I don't want to hear from her how sort of sorry she is.

It's tiring and we're tired and we're demoralized and we just keep getting schlock and "try harder!"

NO, she mildly wonders if our old life was actually all that great. With a picture of her lying alone in a double bed.

I went back to it. I had prepared better. Yes, it is utterly Precious. Fey. Simpleminded.
"I just wish I could hug a friend."

But it achieves its purpose. It makes you feel you belong to the club. The club that includes a Kennedy granddaughter who is just.like.you. really.

Beth B म्हणाले...

Our elites certainly do seem to be invested in this idea of a New Normal, don't they? We're constantly being asked to question how good the Before Times actually were. Well, fuck you and your New Normal! I liked my Old Normal just fine and have every intention of going back to it, as soon as possible. Now, if you'd be so kind as to get your asses out of the way, that would be great.

JesusFuckingGODdamnMotherFuckingGODdamnCHRIST! people! PLEASE tell me that people are NOT wearing masks in saunas? It's JUST a deadly virus, it's not like AIDS

speaking of which; in our New Normal, when you let someone bareback you; do you wear a mask?

When Caroline Kennedy was US ambassador to Japan, we belonged to the same club in Tokyo.

"I think I need a hug."

Kai Akker म्हणाले...

That sounds a trifle put out. Tastes can differ, Ms. Althouse. The voice, the treacliness of it all. Even beyond that issue -- the creepy feeling of the Club NYT tentacles encircling one can wreak havoc with the most charming animations. I would enjoy being in the Club NYT with Tatiana Kennedy. And for part of those three minutes, as that voice went sing-songing along, I sorta was, courtesy of the Althouse Blog. Thank you.

But -- when the curtain falls, and the lights come back on, I am somehow reminded that Tatiana's bank account has at least two more digits than mine. Maybe three! Should that matter? It has to, because during the charming animation I had realized that what she missed about life Before was much different from what I miss about life Before. I don't really care about singing in public or dancing in a crowded club. I do care about having trouble seeing my children and their significant others. Not to mention friends, neighbors, and the rest of the human race. She didn't seem to notice that aspect. She made more points about missing the crowded anonymity of Manhattan, it seemed to me. And my desire to return to my life Before and not accept servitude After is different from all Tatiana's sweet nothings.

Alas, no Club NYT jazz can change that fact. And Tatiana will never have to feel what the people who run Tavern on the Hill here, for example, have to feel -- that years of work are being vaporized. She can make cutesey videos on NYT and people who want to imagine they have something in common with her can appreciate them. And good for them. But include me out.

If my FB feed is any indication, there will be quite a few leftists who will be reluctant to give up their Covid dystopia. They're enjoying it way too much. So much virtue signaling, so much government control! It just gives one the shivers!

As for me, I still hug friends, I still go to restaurants, and in two months I plan to resume my normal pre-Covid travel routine. Life goes on for the living.

Narr म्हणाले...

Cross my heart: back around 1973 or so my wastrel friends and I enjoyed a movie at the Skylark Drive-In in Corinth (that's CORE-inth) Missippi. It was a low budget semi-porn campus farce and one of the characters was a wispy young clergyman whose answer to every problem was a hug.

His catchphrase: After all, Hitler just needed a good hug.

Narr
Maybe he was right!

Maybe this will brighten your day: I put out a basket of snacks and cooler full of drinks for delivery drivers this time of year and today the UPS driver did a comical arm pump when he rummaged around and found a red Powerade. I saw it on the doorbell cam and it definitely brightened my day.

The voice was grating

The story line was schlock

Other than that, it was pretty good, I guess
