Wait, so Trump not only rejects stimulus funds that would probably have helped his re-election chances, but *also* does so in a way to make sure that he personally will take blame for it?

I agree that I don't really get it either.
Nate is a real idiot. The President, by himself, can't appropriate money. From what I recall, the Speaker wanted bailout money for Dem states. Nancy hates America. It is all politics for her.
It is NANCY's fault. She wanted to add all kinds of goodies for illegals, and other goodies to cheat in the election with mail in voting. SHE is the reason this has been held up for weeks, and you KNOW she wouldn't pass anything before the election to make Trump look good anyways. The media will spin it as Trumps fault though, like clockwork. Nothing is every nasty Nancy's fault.
Sometimes the real cost of free stuff is just too high.
how did the last round of stimulus and ppe work out,
Seems both are playing games, and the people are caught in the crossfire.
Nancy seems the more obstinate and irresponsible of the two.
How hard would it be to break into separate bills?
I have no trouble getting my mind around it. President Trump is refusing to 'ransom' the #CommieVirus relief by supporting spending on things the Democrats want in exchange, but couldn't get if put in a separate bill.
That refusal is good for the country. It's also good for Trump and the GOP politically. The base would hate him and the party if they rolled over for Pelosi.
The media is going to blame Trump regardless of what happens. This way at least he can appear proactive, rather than sitting and waiting for a call that will never come. Silver understands this. His tweet is faux.
Throwing a shit ton of money at left-wing cities who did nothing to stop their own destruction was going to help Trump's re-election? On what planet?
Nate The Liar tries to cover for Nancy The Stimulus-Denying-Cunt.
Sure.
One things Nate can't understand is leadership.
He's being the President and refusing to go along with a bad bill. Nate can't understand that.
Maybe he calculates that Nancy and the Democrats might be more hurt and then more willing to negotiate or concede a point?
What am I saying, the Golden Scalp Weasel knows nothing about negotiating!
Nate’s never done Dexamethasone for a long weekend.
In the immortal words of Kent "Flounder" Dorfman; "Oh boy! This is great!".
No, the injury and collateral damage caused by Antifa and Some, Select Black Lives Matter protests is the responsibility of the accommodating Democrat jurisdictions. Pelosi should not attempt to share/shift responsibility to grant indemnity and safe sanctuary to these sociopaths. Funding bills originate in the House. Pelosi should not conflate causes (founded on false premises) to deprive her constituents.
I can understand him not going along with the stimulus. I don't understand taking it away as an issue Reps can blame Nancy for blocking.
Trump not down with more windmills. Besides it isnt up to him to negotiate and pass laws.
Wait, so Trump not only rejects stimulus funds that would probably have helped his re-election chances, but *also* does so in a way to make sure that he personally will take blame for it?—

Some statements say more about the person that spoke them than about the target of the statement.
Chuck said...

Speaking of really stupid people saying really stupid shit...
Isn't being willing to walk away from the table President Trump's main negotiating move?
Nate Silver is concern trolling.
"Chuck said...
Nate’s never done Dexamethasone for a long weekend."
Try it, Chuck, might help you grow some balls and become a conservative.
Look, it is entirely possible that Trump loses the election.
But, as much bluster as he brings to any topic, he his actions during the campaign and during his administration seem far more calculated than any of his critics ever give him credit for.
If he loses in November all right thinking people will feel self reassured that they were right all along. But if he wins at some point, maybe a year form now, maybe 20 years from now someone is going to figure out that Trump had the greatest data operation on the will of voters ever made.
I suspect that Trump is sitting on some data that indicates that he is better positioned by very publicly walking away.

Lots of downbeat CW abut this from the usual suspects, left and right. They *still* think in the same Washington way and can't fathom anyone merely putting a stop to the charade.
We'll see what happens in the next few days. I know Nancy believes herself invincible and refuses to give the GOP even a share of credit, but she needs the problem as much as everyone thinks Trump does.
Best decision in spite of the trolls' opinions.
LLR-lefty Chuck, like all democraticals, is positively desperate to deliver for the blue state marxist governors and their lackeys.
Alas, once again, Trump continues to govern as the most conservative President in our lifetimes.
And that includes Reagan.
FakeCon grifters hardest hit.
"how did the last round of stimulus and ppe work out"
This is what is so funny about the reactions of Trump "walking away" from a tent in an Iranian bazaar. How many times do we have to do through this stage play until people catch on? The concern trolling from the usual suspects is always the tell.
Poor Nick is beside himself with dismay and disappointment the president is throwing away an election he is already +14 points behind. Puh-lease.
Personally I'm really looking forward to the ACB hearings next week when we shove another conservative jurist down LLR-lefty Chuck's throat and make him choke on it.
Should be fun.
I can't wait to see how LLR-lefty Chuck attempts to play this one.....you know, by pretending to be in favor of conservative judges but golly gee whiz, just like all the others, there is just this little thing or that little thing that really requires the nomination to be delayed.
LOL
It took every fiber of LLR-lefty Chuck's FakeCon being to manage to pretend to be in favor of Kavanaugh and now he has to try and fake it again! Frankly, as with probably most things, I don't think he is up to the challenge.
And if Dick Durbin and Blumenthal end up looking like idiots (Spoiler: they will) that will really send Chucky over the edge.
So much to look forward to!

Trump's paid plenty of that, no?
Just to recap some recent high profile endorsements of Trump:
BET Founder Robert Johnson comes out as voting for Trump.
Puerto Rican Governor Wanda Vazquez Garced endorses Trump.
Hey, I already know what you are thinking: of course they did, after all, they are white supremacists too!
Stephen St. Onge is correct.
So is Darrell, but a bit harsher in getting his point across. (So be it.)
For myself, "stimulus money" is like taking a cash advance on your credit card to help cover your bills for the month.
Of course, I'll take the money if it's on somebody else's credit card, like my grandchildrens', for instance. JOKE! When does Time have its "We're All Keynesians Now" issue coming out?
I will now sit back and wait for the Modern Monetary Theory zombies to stumble out and start work on the unbelievers.
I'll miss the $1200 but I support DJT on this. Pelosi is not willing to give him and the Republicans a clean bill of relief funds so he's making it clear it's Nancy fault.
THEOLDMAN
She won't be Speaker next year.
As of now, the only thing Nancy Pelosi can do to get back in the news is to make a concession, impeach or get her hair done. The election is still 28 news cycles away. That's a lot of time where Trump can rail against do-nothing Democrats wanting a bunch of extra money for blue states while purple state Democrats try to insist that they disagreed with Nancy refusing to separate the bills.
Is this a gamble? Everything's a gamble these days. The other day, a bicyclist named Quinn Simmons got kicked off the Trek tour, whatever that is, after a social media dust-up about supporting Trump. A lot of people are watching stuff like this and keeping their mouth shut about their political preferences for their own self-protection. Democrats are gambling that these people will be bullied into dropping all support for Trump. It may work, or there may be a backlash. We're all flying blind right now and the instruments are suspect because they were recalibrated not to show certain things.

Nancy Pelosi is asking for $2.4 Trillion Dollars to bailout poorly run, high crime, Democrat States, money that is in no way related to COVID-19. We made a very generous offer of $1.6 Trillion Dollars and, as usual, she is not negotiating in good faith. I am rejecting their request, and looking to the future of our Country. I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business. I have asked Sen. Mitch McConnell not to delay, but to instead focus full time on approving my outstanding nominee to the United States Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett. Our Economy is doing very well. The Stock Market is at record levels, JOBS and unemployment also coming back in record numbers. We are leading the World in Economic Recovery, and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!
I'm unsure how a president can sink an appropriations bill short of a veto. A veto can always be overridden if the Legislature sees fit.
Trump has no bill before him to veto. If he did veto it, there are not enough votes in Congress to override the veto.
It seems to me that this is a problem within Congress...
Nothing required him to make a deal or break off negotiations. Roid rage.
Trump's Reykjavik moment.
Everybody knows I defend Trump all the time, but I thought that paying people and companies more for not working than they made working was just stupid on steroids. So, yea, I guess I'm defending him again, but for not doing what he did before. He didn't make the same mistake again, which is very different from the Democrat SOP.
You could take Nate's statement as a compliment, and he's saying that the self-interested politics that Trump is avoiding is what he would do. So, he's simultaneously insulting himself. He needs a session with Chopra.
Stupid Nate...
Trump was elected because the nation was tired of seeing illegal immigrants get away with murder and free handouts on top it.
Now Trump ended another stimulus laden with......
... free handouts to illegal immigrants!
And this will cause him to lose how......?
Well David Gargle Said on CNN, Trump is mad. So it must be so.
I'm a life-long Democrat and have participated in many blue-city riots meant to dismantle Amerikkka, but even I saw this bill as nothing but pork for libtards.
Good move. Pelosi has no aptitude for negotiation, discipline and bondage is her game.
Pelosi didn’t get the nickname of MaligNancy for nothing. She earned it.
These Trillion+ Dollar stimuluses and other mind-bending appropriations started in 2008 with the banks bailouts which also marks the moment when American politics went to hell.
The need for more COVID stimulus is debatable. Should we spend more money to huddle in the basement? or get back out there and live our lives in full?
If Trump is on the side of breaking the stimulus racket, bully for him.
I'm glad he said no and cut Pelosi off. I don't need this stimulus and didn't need the last one. Hell, I put the entire amount I got into a recent car loan that was already 8 or 9 (principal-only) payments ahead. It was nice to do, but not a necessity. I know others are unemployed right now and could probably use the money, but I think UI payments are still higher than normal, right? If that's not enough, then not sure what would be.
This is a day that the Left thought would never come. They are stymied. Trump walks away from negotiations and there's nothing they can do.
Readering: "Nothing required him to make a deal or break off negotiations. Roid rage."
We'll add Negotiations to the astonishingly long list of things readering knows nothing about but for some reason thinks he/she/xe does.
That's very on brand for our Most Inga-like Poster.
Roid Rage? The 1980's called and want their social panic back.
Good for Trump. I am, and have been adamantly opposed to both the original stimulus as well as round 2.
Pass liability protection for private business and let the blue states drown in their own mismanagement.
Bad decisions need harsh consequences in order for lessons to be learned.
It's the government spending is always a good idea faction against Trump.
So no relief bill until January.
You think he will work on a bill if he loses? Me neither.
Silver playing dumb once again. Not a good look.
There was never going to be bill before the election- by just calling negotiations until after the election, Trump is the only person acknowledging reality here.
In any case, the only way to move the needle on the bill was to walk away, not that it will actually move Botox Betty, but there really was nothing else going to work.
Mark: "So no relief bill until January.
You think he will work on a bill if he loses? Me neither."
Shorter Mark: Please reimburse democraticals so they can continue to burn down their cities and fire more police officers.
Mikey NTH: "Roid Rage?"
Our dumb lefties, like readering and dumb lefty mark, believe vehemently that prednisone is equivalent to anabolic steroids and growth hormones.
That's mostly because they are, at best, stupid.
Lefty Mark,
To get a relief bill, all Pelosi had to do was to separate out the giveaways to the state governments. A deal for straight up funding for extended UE and income support for the rest of the under-employed was easy to get- Trump and the Republicans would have jumped at it, but they weren't going to allow Pelosi to raid the treasury to fund California, New York, and Illinois profligate and nearly bankrupt governments- they will have to downsize their spending to match the revenue streams they are likely to have over the next 2-3 years- the workers furloughed in that process can join the rest of the furloughed workers from the private sector who are suffering from the idiotic lockdowns. No deal is better than what Pelosi wanted.
Firstly, the House version is extravagant. Secondly, we probably don't need another package. Is it wise to keep some small businesses like restaurants and bars afloat when they are probably finished, anyway? Some day the national debt will crush us. China will call in its loans. Or the Feds will decide the interest they're earning on the debt is not worth the risk. Between COVID and national disasters our spending has become insane this past year.
You know, the real relief will come through ending the lockdowns. Trump is right, but it will gain him no votes.
He could make 80-90% of "new cases" disappear and reopen the economy with this one trick:
Listen to the NYTimes.
Listen the New England Journal of Medicine
The corona PCR test is too sensitive and 90% of "cases" it detects are old viral rubbish. The people aren't contagious and probably never even knew they had anything.
Although if he loses, this will happen.
Nate silver has an indisputable track record of getting almost everything wrong!
My initial reaction is to agree with Maybee at 5:56. Trump could have kept negociating with Nancy until the election, knowing full well it would be fruitless. Now it looks like he gave Nancy exactly what she wanted short of her deal, and that is to take the blame for no deal. Either Trump's Covid drugs have gotten the better of him, or he's got something else up his sleeve, I hope it's the later.
My biggest issue with Trump that he spends our dollars like a Democrat.
Everyone who understands what these "stimulus" bills are all about understands why Trump pulled the plug on these negotiations. Of course, those who understand this are already voting for Trump, so, yes, from Silver's viewpoint, it doesn't make sense. But there are a lot of people out there who don't really understand a lot of what goes on in our politics, but who have a queasy feeling about it. This election, like the 2016 one, is about choosing between business-as-usual and "something else". Trump just gave the queasy voters a reason to vote for him and not the winner of the Oldest Establishment Politician Cup (they actually ought to call it the Biden Cup).
I'm happy Trump walked away from the table. I was worried the GOPe would convince him to fold telling him to save the fight for another day since the election is just a few weeks away. Pelosi doesn't negotiate, she says it is my way or nothing. Most of the time the GOP just says "okay" because they know the media is going to blame them for everything. Trump knows that they are going to blame him anyway and it would piss off his base if he gave in to the demands to bail out the blue states for their bad decisions. If he gave into Pelosi she would be making campaign ads about his failure and touting how the left is in charge and everyone should vote democrat in order to keep the gravy train moving. Good move by Trump!

The Dems refused, because they know that holding America hostage is the only way to get payoffs for their funders
When you are a Republican fighting Democraticals, other Democraticals cannot understand why you would fight.
I think I have that right.
Trump says he is ready to sign a clean relief bill for individuals.
Come on, Nancy! Drop the garbage and help out the people!
So she has to deal with him, directly. He’s on steroids and she’s on hormone replacement. Great.
Battle of the Titans.
Trump learned from Reagan's mistake. Walk away instead of being held hostage by the Democrats. Had Reagan told the Democrats to pound sand instead of acquiescing to Boland Amendment there would have been no Iran-Contra witch hunt.
my post at 8:26, should read 'Fed' not 'Feds'. As if anyone noticed/cared. LOL!

If I am sent a Stand Alone Bill for Stimulus Checks ($1,200), they will go out to our great people IMMEDIATELY. I am ready to sign right now. Are you listening Nancy?
I guess the meds are wearing off and Trump again tweeting for immediate measures.

Democrats are just stupid people.
Nancy hasn’t accomplished anything positive for the American people since Trump took her luggage away from her and stacked it in front of her office. What was that fake trip all about anyway? Good times!
Nate Silver sometimes has been something bordering on anti-Trump and anti-GOP for a long time. This year has been so very strange. I believe those who are all-in on Trump will likely remain so. Those who hate him will hate him all the more. But Nate Silver is a poker player, and Trump is the kind of guy who, with balls of steel, pushes all his chips to the center of the table to see who will call his bluff. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
"How hard would it be to break into separate bills?"
Because the bill won't be "comprehensive".
A word, much favored by the left, that has apparently evolved to mean large enough to hide tons of pet-project-pork.
Show this to Nate
https://thedonald.win/p/Hr64XMdk/whats-in-the-box-/c/
So Trump is either in roid rage or steroid euphoria, and simultaneously just about to drop dead from COVID any minute now while returning to work, and gasping for air but climbing flights of steps while wearing his mask, and stopping payment of money to poor people while requesting $1200 per person from the only people who authorize such spending.
I think I understand. Heads Trump wins, tails Trump wins, but the reporting always tries to explain that a win for Trump is akin to Vesuvius exploding over Pompeii, Titanic hitting the iceberg, a miles-wide meteor hitting the Caribbean, and Old Yeller getting put down with rabies. Willful ignorance isn't ignorance, it's just being blind to reality.
The last stimulus check paid my property tax for the first half of 2020. The next one will pay for the second half of 2020.
How that helps the national economy, I can't imagine.
It does keep the Maryland Property Tax division in business, though.
It's not that "Nate Silver" doesn't get it - he does. It's a fantastic "Tweet" and very damaging to the Democratic narrative going into election day. You'll see this coming up in the debates, again and again.
What Nate Silver... and Nancy Pelosi... don't seem to understand is that a bad deal is worse than no deal. The American public knows who's playing games here, and it isn't Trump. Trump's latest Tweet, offering to sign a clean $1.2B bill to help the people affected by COVID-19 directly, and his offer to sign a bill that uses existing/allocated funds to help the airlines, are things that WILL come up in the debates. Pelosi and Silver are stuck in the belief that the Democrat-friendly media controls the narrative... and they will be shocked to discover that they are wrong.
