Name-changing in Madison.

I have a "Jeremy Ryan" tag but don't know if it's the same Jeremy Ryan. That choice of new middle name suggests that it is. To my ear, it's life saying the Jeremy Ryan. Don't know why the "f" is capitalized.

If it's the Jeremy Ryan I've written about in the past, here's his Wikipedia page.

Why do people celebrate their weirdness?

I think he should tattoo his name on his forehead so we will all know who he is. His parents would be so proud.

I think focusing on the mis-capitalization is straining at a gnat.

PS - Why is there a MF'ing "g" in gnat?

I hate it when people do weird capitalization of their name. Is that what passes for imagination and creativity these days?

The Wikipedia page says "Other names: Joseph," which is this petitioner's middle name, so it seems extremely likely they are the same man.

If it’s your Jeremy, my guess is that he is planning to run for election using his new full name. That style of capitalization is called upper camel case. I predict upper camel case will become the replacement for hyphenation of compound last names.

The guy has a chance to eliminate "Jeremy" from his name, and didn't take advantage of the opportunity? He deserves whatever happens to him.

Not creative. Steve Martin wrote it 30 years ago...

Jeremy M.F. Ryan sounds like the name of a contestant in Monty Python's Upper Class Twit of the Year contest. He sets up well for the "Reverse into an Old Lady" segment.

"Jeremy M. F. Ryan shows great form in reversing his Segway into an old lady with Covid-19 and killing her, thereby creating another Covid-19 death in the official stats and earning 10 points. However, since the Old Lady was 87 years old, Jeremy suffers a 20 point penalty for failing to create a Covid-19 death under the age of 50."

Well, that's what happens when you have absolutely no values other than maximizing transgressiveness: you do whatever you can find that others may still find transgressive.

So, let him have it: that way everyone will understand that an upraised finger defines what he is and what he choses to be; it's his chosen personality and his chosen, singular value. And, therefore, one may conclude that that's all he ever intends to offer to anyone, ever.

Well isn't that special? We all have some crazy in us, some is just more evident.

A little off topic but still about Name changing. Here in Iowa, the Johnson County Board of Supervisors,(home of the UofI) with nothing else of import on their agenda, decided to change the name of the county.

"Once the process to change the county’s eponym is complete, Lulu Merle Johnson will take the place of Richard Mentor Johnson, who was vice president to President Martin Van Buren from 1837 to 1841.
The VP was a supposed slave trader... Yale University could not be reached for comment.

"She became the first Black woman in the state to earn a doctorate, and was among the first Black women nationwide to earn one."

I swear, leftist cannot resist the smallest of symbolic actions.

At the risk of repeating others: pathetic.
When I was a good bit younger, I dated a young woman who lived with her mother in an apartment. It annoyed the mom that I parked in places that were off-limits to visitors. She started calling me "dammit Tom", and would introduce me to her friends that way.
I kind of liked it.

Guy says "Robert Schitt"

As a fellow (former) Iowan, I couldn't believe that about the Johnson County name change. So I googled and found this CR Gazette story.

https://www.thegazette.com/subject/opinion/staff-editorial/credit-to-johnson-county-and-linn-county-for-removing-racist-names-20201002

Re: the Squaw Creek name change, "it has officially been renamed Wanaee Park, after Jean Adeline Morgan Wanatee, a 20th century women’s rights advocate from the Meskwaki Nation". So the local paper doesn't get the spelling of the name right in the same sentence. Then it says:

"Squaw” is a pejorative term used against Native American women. Dozens of municipalities and nature features around the country use the name, though many of those have changed in the past two decades. The Linn County Board of Conservation also is requesting the to change the name of the nearby creek to Wanatee Creek.

County officials said they consulted with Meskwaki representatives to select a name. Manatee was born on the settlement in Tama in 1910 and was an advocate for women’s rights and education."

Manatee! I'll believe the op-ed writers when they actually proofread their work product.

Nonsense. He's maximizing pseudo-transgressiveness. You want to see real transgressives, you look at, say, Westboro Baptist Church, or 4chan.

This guy isn't transgressive even a little; he's very carefully drawing within the lines of modern social acceptability. Seriously, "He's picking a word routinely used in action movies for his new middle name!" is as transgressive as living "in sin".
