You don't strike me as dog people, but, then, I don't really know you. Zeus, king of the gods, is always old.

I love rainy fall days. We had one here on the coast of Maine today. Leaves are falling all around. It was surprisingly busy in town today, lots of diners sipping beer and wine when I was out for a walk at noontime. No young families in view. I had and obligation to work on either side of lunch today.

My cat "Little Baby" had 3 kittens yesterday. I had a nice place for her to have them, but nope, she decided under the coach would be cool. She just now, needed to get outside to go potty. She doesn't like going in the litter box any more. She's very considerate.

To Zeus:

They say that all good things must end some day
Autumn leaves must fall
But don't you know that it hurts me so
To say goodbye to you
Wish you didn't have to go
No, no, no, no

And when the rain
Beats against my windowpane
I'll think of summer days again
And dream of you

Zeus-o, not Zoso

Leaves are falling all around
It's time I was on my way
Thanks to you I'm much obliged
For such a pleasant stay
But now it's time for me to go
The autumn moon lights my way
For now I smell the rain
And with it pain
And it's headed my way

( "Zoso" is not a word but rather, a symbol. The original symbol was used by Cardano in 1557, which he used as the magickal sigil* for saturn, the planet that rules capricorn, Jimmy Page's Sign. Jimmy took this symbol and changed parts of it. Though it resembles a word, this glyph is one of four enigmatic symbols appearing on the cover of rock group Led Zeppelin’s album Four. Each member of the band chose a personal emblem for the cover; this symbol was chosen by guitarist Jimmy Page as a personal emblem.)

*A sigil (/ ˈsɪdʒəl /; pl. sigilla or sigils) is a type of symbol used in magick. The term has usually referred to a type of pictorial signature of a Jinn or other entity.

..".but why the added "K" in 'magick'" you ask?

"Magick," in the context of Aleister Crowley's Thelema, is a term used to show and differentiate the occult from performance magic.

FedEx CEO claims New York Times Co. paid no federal taxes

In an unusual move, FedEx's Smith claimed in a news release on Sunday that the New York Times Co. paid no federal taxes in 2017, despite earning $111 million that year. "Pertinent to this outrageous distortion of the truth is the fact that unlike FedEx, the New York Times paid zero federal income tax in 2017," Smith said.

It's very frustrating, but currently there is no way to get an accurate number for what companies are actually paying in taxes," Willens said

Time to admit I am wrong. I predicted Biden would announce by now, some flu like bug, not the rona, and would not be able to make this debate.

I still cant believe the debate is going to happen. Rush suspects IF it happens, Bidens every response is going to be an 'Orange man bad' rant, untethered to anything Wallace asks.

Absolutely glorious in Upstate NY the last few days. About a week early. That rain is headed our way and will bring a melancholy end to it. My wife and I took a ritual drive and stopped for a few moments on the side of the road. We could see 10 miles southerly and two or three north. I would like to have had several BLMers there to show them the colors that really matter.

Please note the non-use of profanity. It was difficult.

Wallace says that he wants to make sure that the debates focus on “key issues” Who the fuck is he to decide what can and can’t be talked about. It would be like during impeachment when the Democrats would decide what defense Trump was allowed to offer. Ruling any actual effective defenses, the truth of which time has borne out, as “irrelevant.” They were only “irrelevant” to convicting Trump, and I am pretty sure that Wallace will decide whether issues are “key” to electing Biden, and if they are not, then why talk about them?

The candidates themselves should decide what is “key” and the people can then decide, not Chris. Wallace -- guardian of ignorance.

A lot of people were saying that Biden would be replaced, and I could not see that happening. Joe Biden has been pursuing this prize since 1988, there was no way (in my opinion) that he was going to drop the nomination voluntarily. Similarly with the debates. For months there has been talk and speculation regarding Biden's health and his mental acuity, for him to duck out of the debates would only serve to confirm those rumors and speculations for the voters. The Biden campaign has to debate Trump.

“Michael K: like Heinlein's short story "The Door into Summer", where he explains what it is his cat keeps looking for, going from door to door in bad winter weather.”

I think that we have been seeing a bit of that. Cat’s an indoor cat, declawed for that reason. Up until a week or two ago, he spent his days window surfing, going Sequentially through the open (for him) windows around the house, checking out the wildlife, and snoozing. They are closed this week, for the first cold snap of the fall. 40s at night, and 70s in the daytime. Down from the low 90s a couple weeks ago.

Even over the five months we have been up here, he is having a harder time of the window surging. Not because he is getting old, but at two years old, he hasn’t quite given up growing. He is a terror for the vet, and we haven’t yet gotten him in this summer, but we expect he is nearing 20 lbs. Step daughter suggested before we headed up here that he Might need a tummy tuck. He really isn’t fat (yet), just getting big. Not looking forward to putting him on a diet, which is probably imminent. Our Phoenix vet-ette suggested that he was done growing a year or so ago. We didn’t go back, except for shots we already had paid for. He has doubled in size since then. We had been using the vet in the next 5own East of here (who had sewed up her previous cat from being “owled” 25 years ago). GF of the guy putting in our garage has a clinic just west of us here, and does mostly small animals (they specialize here - big animal vets get the glory, but not the money, while small animal vets make money, but have to deal with neurotic pets, and more neurotic owners all day).

Our “tummy tuck” relative, and her husband, are visiting right now. Cat loves her. She plays rough with him, but smells like her mother, who babies him. But they took some training. Going out the front door, you have to check the stand right by the door. We do instinctively. They are starting to. Because he hides there waiting for a break for freedom. Which he was successful at twice this week. The two of us, much more experienced than, were only suckered once earlier this summer. Then I got in trouble for not panicking. The first time, it was about midnight, and the “tummy tuck” daughter was panicking, because she had let her mother’s cat get maybe eaten. Don’t worry, I said. When the novelty wears off, 8n 5-10 minutes, he will be back, cold and hungry. He really doesn’t like cold. I was considered cold and insensitive about this dose of realty. I was, of course, right, but spent the next day hearing about how cold and uncaring I was. I prefer calling it realism. Second time, he stowed away on something she was dragging out. He is back safely though, having spent last night sleeping on me, to stay warm. Did I mention that my partner won’t let me turn on the heat, and it was under 50 yesterday morning in the house?

Anyone else enjoying the outrage over Trump's 2016 campaign and claims that (e.g. from sludgereport):

Black Americans categorized as 'Deterrence'...
Manipulated by models and algorithms...

People "categorized as 'Deterrence'" by "models and algorithms" were "deterred" by trying to "manipulate" them into not voting for anybody, by showing them videos of Hillary (oh teh horror), because the campaign thought they could never be convinced to vote for Trump.

The Outraged also call this type of advertising "Trump's plan to suppress black votes" ... by showing them videos of Hillary.

And it wasn't "Black Americans" of course, they were just more likely on average to fall into the category of "won't vote for Trump, no matter what" than White Americans.

AllenS म्हणाले...

Looks like the debate is on. Even if Joseph Robinette Biden shits his pants on stage, tomorrow the media will boast: "Biden wins debate over stinky Trump."

Michael K म्हणाले...

I had a big cat when I was in New Hampshire for a year. He was a kitten that some kids brought by when I moved in. He was supposed to be female but I got back to the house one day and discovered my mistake. He then got fixed. Over the year, he got enormous. One winter night (20 below zero) he went outside and did not come in when I called him. I warned him that it would be cold but he ignored me. In the morning there were paw prints in the window ledge snow. Didn't phase him, though. He just got fluffier. He and my golden retriever would eat out of the same dish. He hated the car, really hated it, so there was no way I could take him back to California when I went back so I gave him to friends in Connecticut. He thrived there and I visited him a few years later. He would bring them gifts of rabbit heads. Great cat.

"Wallace got his lede in the NYT tax story. He will grill Trump on his taxes to the exclusion of any Trump success.”

It’s called a “spoiling attack,” another concept that I got from that novel Shibumi, the attack is designed not so much to permanently wound Trump as it is to deny him the initiative in this debate. Which is why the leak was timed the way it was between the New York Times and the Democrat prosecutors in NYC.

It is very much like the “black ledger,” more appropriate to call it the "made up ledger” that the Democrats and Ukrainians cooked up, a ledger that was never substantiated or even used in trial, to decapitate the Trump campaign by forcing Manafort to resign. That’ was printed by the New York Times in August, but it blew up in their faces because then Trump got Kelley Ann Conway in his place, a much better choice.

tim in vermont म्हणाले...

So they believe what I believe, that if Hillary *had* gone to Wisconsin, she would have lost the state by more.
