What is interesting is that the punitive measures are not just criminal charges against the women. [Samantha R. Hamer, 26] is particularly likely to suffer immediate employment consequences as a teacher. She is a specialist in helping kids with “social-emotional needs” and “behavioral issues.”... According to reports, Hamer works as a licensed social worker for the Mount Horeb School District in suburban Madison and [Kerida E. O’Reilly, 33] is a licensed physical therapist in Madison with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy program from Marquette University....It's obvious to me now that Turley meant to write, "this would seem a case," but I watched myself in real time getting caught up in the word "care" and trying to understand it. Who knows when a typo is a Freudian slip?
Both women however also fall under licensing authority of the Department of Safety and Professional Services, which will now review their licenses for possible revocation. One issue may be whether the concussion is treated as “serious” or “great” bodily harm under the statute....
Given the serious injury to the senator and the evidence that he did nothing to provoke the assault, this would seem a care almost certain to be handled in a plea agreement if prosecutors are in the bargaining mood....
A Freudian slip, also called parapraxis, is an error in speech, memory, or physical action that occurs due to the interference of an unconscious subdued wish or internal train of thought. The concept is part of classical psychoanalysis. Classical examples involve slips of the tongue, but psychoanalytic theory also embraces misreadings, mishearings, mistypings, temporary forgettings, and the mislaying and losing of objects.Whether Turley was revealing what he really felt or not, his typo made me think about the ideas of caring that could have been flowing about in the mind of the typist. The conscious, scrupulous Turley would not come out and say that these 2 women matter more than other people.
They are educated in the helping professions! They have so much to give! They made an unfortunate decision in a moment of weakness and surely we don't want to deprive society of all they have to give! We need to care about them because they care! They are carers in caring professions! They cared about social justice, so they were out on the street caring with other carers, and, yes, they cared too much in that instant about whether Senator Carpenter might hurt their cause — their caring cause —but in the grand scheme of caring we should care that the carers could be prevented from giving us all the care they embody.
And that's why the slogan is Black Lives Matter.

Is it just me, or does it seem like psychologists, counselors, behavioral specialist are typically very full of issues?
the Fact of the Matter is: Some people just don't care. Those people need to be shot
And that's why the slogan is Black Lives Matter.
“I’m more black than you on the inside” – White BLM protester lectures African-American doctor
"Well I tell you what, If you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't black."
Yes, the ultra-liberal authorities will care more for these two women than for the innocent victim of a crime. In my formative years growing up in Madison, that is one thing that I learned.
In Madison these days, I would think that their actions are cause for promotion.
And middle- and uppper-middle class white women in the U.S. have it better than 99.99999 percent of people who have ever lived.
I don't really follow you here, but I will say that in the idea that we should defund the police, it is social workers that people want to send out to deal with others in crisis.
So that makes a social worker who beats up gay congressmen especially interesting.
Btw, I don't know that they 'command' special care, but they certainly 'demand' it.
Sorry, actions have consequences. She was doing what 'felt right to her' apparently, and that it hurt someone else is the important thing. She could be Mother Theresa, but she assaulted a man.
Do you really want a teacher who apparently has severe anger issues helping kids with “social-emotional needs” and “behavioral issues."? Seems to me in a couple of years said teacher will possibly be arrested for harming her students when they anger her.
She’s 26. How much of a “specialist” can she be? Seriously. She may have a “special” degree or license. But she couldn’t have been practicing very long.
And if one of the kid's they 'care' about have parent's who are Trump supporters, are they going to thump one of them on the head too? Because, you know, THEY CARE?
The philosophy behind it is somewhat convoluted, but it is generally accepted that past good acts don't make up for bad acts. That they are from caring professions should mean nothing. Also, prior to hate crime laws, it was also considered irrelevant what their motivations were. Actions matter. Affects matter. Intentions do not.
One of the many dangers of hate crimes laws is just this--that it opens to door to condemning acts based not just on whether they are illegal and caused harm, but on whether we think the perpetrator is a good person or not--that is, it adds an element of subjective bias to the societal act that it's most vital to keep objective.
That that creature (Hamer) is employed at public expense to teach children to manage their emotions and make wise behavioral choices is beyond parody.
Their problem was that they just cared too much, gosh darn it!
"CLAIM: 'Teachers are the number one occupation of the antifa terrorist organization according to the FBI.'
AP’S ASSESSMENT: False."
If the ap says it's false, there's a pretty good chance that it's true.
Sheesh, Althouse. Why get excited about two people who don't have penises (insofar as we know)? I thought this was in part about taking down the patriarchy--or so BLM tells me. Get that nuclear family! It takes a village!
One of them isn't even white--she's green! Don't you know it isn't easy being green?
"One issue may be whether the concussion is treated as “serious” or “great” bodily harm under the statute....”
Ever suffer a concussion? My wife did once, and it was way worse than my broken arm. Lasting for months, making work difficult, if not impossible, and it’s always a lucky think that it wasn’t a lot worse.
And why would they plea bargain it down when they have them dead to rights? Isn’t that for when they don’t want to risk a trial? That makes no sense except for the times we live in now. I will be shocked, shocked! I tell you if the prosecutor drops the charges as soon as the media coverage recedes. These D.A. offices apparently can be bought for ready cash.
When its leftists, actions are mitigated by the perceivedpast good intentions.
That wife beater? Runs the whole little league operation for years, gives $vast to worthy causes and is thiiiisss close to a covid 19 vaccine. He gets an understanding talking to and no punishment
My money's on autocorrect.
I mean, look how long it took Madison authorities to take a neutral position on the Sterling Hall bombing. Years afterwards, the mayoral office was still sympathetic to the bombers and never once thought about Robert Fassnacht and his young family. It's just the way Madison is. It's one reason I don't regret leaving.
That violent goofballs are in the caring professions is careless.
You don’t need to revoke their licenses if you lock them up long enough. After twenty years or so they’ll pretty much have to start over from scratch in their professions, won’t they?
We're all very familiar with the "Karen". Now there's a somewhat new term floating around: AWFL, which stands for Affluent White Female Liberal. From the description, these two strike me as somewhat AWFL. Not that a social worker and a physical therapist may be considered super affluent in modern first world terms, but I think the label still applies in the broader sense of "affluent" relative to other places and times.
Perhaps these instances of white women behaving badly we've been seeing lately could be looked at strangely as a positive. We've reached a point of such... uhm... affluence and gender equity that brutish behavior is no longer primarily the domain of indolent young men.
I like Turley a lot, but his blog is littered with typos.
Classical analysis is bullshit, but aside from that....
Leftists command special care. Duh.
It's obvious to me now that Turley meant to write, "this would seem a case," but I watched myself in real time getting caught up in the word "care" and trying to understand it.
I Don't Care
I don't care about these words
I don't care about that girl
I don't care (He don't care)
I don't care, I don't care, I don't care
Special care should be given by the prosecutor and the licensing board. That is they both lose their licenses and do a real stretch in prison as an example to others.
They made an unfortunate decision in a moment of weakness and surely we don't want to deprive society of all they have to give!
If you think about it,’this is why the two women need to be dealt with with greater harshness, not less. They are going to face frustrations in their careers, especially the one who assists special needs children, and they’ve both already failed that test.
But I have to admit, Althouse, that I was much put off by your final, snarky, sentence. Neither of these professions is closed to black women.
Turley is handwringing over the professional consequences of their violent action?
I am fairly certain they would have been called before their professional tribunals if they merely *expressed* any support for the President or even the GOP.
My theme for these cases is: Krenwinkle. The affect, attitude, and behavior of these rioting AWFULs reminds me of the Manson family women at their trial. And Krenwinkle is still in prison.
Personally I doubt whether many of these rioters will serve time. Jury nullification, and if Biden wins outright dismissal of the charges, both seem very possible.
One interesting possibility is that some rioters could be used as posters by *both* parties. Like Bobby Sands was for example. Would anyone really be surprised at this point if an arrested rioter is asked to speak at Biden events?
There’s no such thing as a Freudian slip. Everyone occasionally stumbles over words, and seizing on verbal mistakes or typos is simply a childish gotcha game, with a patina of respectability supplied by the Viennese quack.
Freud was a charlatan, a fraud, and the founder of a cult no more scientific than astrology.
Speaking as a parent of a kid in special ed, I would not want "Samantha" anywhere near my daughter.
That's someone with a hair trigger temper and violent tendencies. Special ed kids get abused by their caretakers all the time.
Next please.
Try to imagine needing physical therapy, getting Kerida E. O’Reilly as your physical therapist, and having her find out that you may have voted for Trump.
Try to imagine your child encountering Samantha R. Hamer in a disciplinary situation at school and Ms. Hamer discovering that you may have voted for Trump.
Should either of these individuals be trusted with the type of powers over lives that "carers" often have as part of their "caring" roles?
"Classical examples [of Freudian slips] involve . . . the mislaying and losing of objects.
Holy shit. Don't tell my wife.
Sometimes keys, wallet, and glasses are just keys, wallet, and glasses, honey!
When is a care just a care?
Couldn't you resolve this by taking "care" to mean "consideration" in that sentence--that'd make it clear that what's meant is whether the damage to the senator counts as serious or great under the law is something that'll be hashed out as part of the plea agreement.
If we take "worry, concern" as a synonym for care it's easy to slide to "consideration, factor" and everything fits. A little stilted/dated sounding, but comprehensible as written. No?
They do require special care that they do not want afforded to their other white counterparts.
It is amazing how fast Suburban Liberal Women are picking the fruit of knowledge off totalitarian tree. The story of Adam and Eve, and why the snake approached Eve is becoming much clearer in 2020.
Are those italicized words yours, Anne?
we should care that the carers could be prevented from giving us all the care they embody
Huh? Do we find the care located somewhere near the soul in the body?
m
Yes they command a show of care from Big Daddy. Equal treatment is the last thing white woman want. That’s too big of a demotion...like losing their entitlement to a career track upward. And in some cases that is a good thing because women are talented creatures. But apparently white men are today’s slaves that deserve to be beaten.
If Mount Horeb School District cares about its students they would fire Mz.Hamer as quickly as they can. Not that I truly expect this to happen because if the last 4 months have shown us anything it is that students are last in important's to public schools.
No way it was a Freudian slip. Typos where the mistake is itself a valid word are the bane of typing.
Yada yada, Freudian slip and all that...a distraction from the fact so many of these fuckheads are attorneys and teachers and most (all) of them will maintain that privileged status.
As AG Barr rightly noted, the greatest threat to black lives is the criminal conduct unleashed on those communities by Democratics politicians.
Angry Leftist Collectivists are a subset of that danger.
That woman should not be anywhere near children.
Welcome to a lawless Democrat American city. Watch the prosecutor closely. I any other era, these women would be slam dunked as an example. Justice did not favor the privileged!
Welcome to a lawless Democrat American city. Watch the prosecutor closely. I any other era, these women would be slam dunked as an example. Justice did not favor the privileged!
Sometimes you can just care too much. The second to last paragraph is hilarious. Also, I can imagine the Senator on the ground yelling "I'm on your side, I'm on your side!" as he is being pummeled.
Giving these white women a break because of their occupations is just another example of systemic racism, since white people hold better occupational positions on the whole.
Bahhahhahhahhahahhahahhahha!!!
tell us another joke!!
Ms. Hamer "cares" for kids with behavioral issues. Who's to say whether or not at some point in the future, in the process of "caring for" some kid with behavioral problems, she whales the stuffing out of the kid and gives him or her a concussion?
You're gay! Whap, up longside the head! You're not gay! Whap up longside the head. You disrespected me! Two whaps up longside the head. And any kid smaller than a Green Bay Packers linebacker wouldn't be able to protect him or herself. Ms. Hamer has some heft to her.
Icona Pop - I love it
Both girls look like they should be dressed in straight jackets and locked in padded rooms.
I hope they throw the book at them. You shouldn't get a "Get out of Jail Free" card because you're a helpless little girl who helps people. I'm more concerned about the two women in NY who tried to get kill 6 policeman by tossing a Molotov Cocktail in their van. These two, drove hours to NYC to attack and murder the police. There's been an absence of coverage regarding them. I wonder why? Is it because their attempted murder didn't kill anyone? Or it is they're white or women?
@Nonapod, take care! Althouse is AWFL herself.
The modern left:
Step 1: "I am a better person than you, because I care more than you do."
Step 2: "Because I'm a better person than you, I get to tell you what to do."
Step 3: "You aren't doing what I say, which means you don't care about have been ordered to care about. So you must be beaten into submission. For your own good."
"No way it was a Freudian slip. Typos where the mistake is itself a valid word are the bane of typing."
Finally Readering and I agree on something.
"Both girls look like they should be dressed in straight jackets and locked in padded rooms."
Howard, you are right.
White women be crazy : )
In any case they are a very protected and insulated set, at least where I live. You'll never see so many Lululemon pants, yoga mats, Range Rovers, Porsches, or personal trainers...life is good.
In other words the perps don’t have the self control to behave like adults. Lotta that going around.
>>AWFL, which stands for Affluent White Female Liberal.
Can we make a tiny little change, please? From "Affluent" to "Effluent"?
It used to be fashionable to think of the consequences of your actions to your personal and professional life before you assaulted somebody.
I miss that.
They are educated in the helping professions! They have so much to give!
The above is contradictory.
But it does highlight a common element also identified by the (male) antifa member interviewed in a link a couple of days ago. It seems the people most dissatisfied with our current society are those who spend vast sums and time for an "education" which is really a substandard credential qualifying them only for make-work positions. Because they value themselves highly (I have all this education!) the conflict between their self-image and actual status manifests as anger at "the system" instead of a recognition this is the outcome of rejecting productive work.
Seems to me that as a physical therapist and a teacher of kids with behavioral issues these two women are in positions where they are dealing with vulnerable people. The fact that they attacked someone without provocation is good reason for them to lose their licenses. I have probably never been more angry and upset in my life than when my student (a stroke victim) showed me the huge and ugly bruise inflicted on him by his abusive physical therapist. It does happen.
There’s no such thing as a Freudian slip.
People like to imagine that analyzing mistakes is a form of mind-reading, similar to imagining that you can determine whether someone is lying by analyzing their body language or their eye movements.
My analysis: the letters s c a r e are near each other on the keyboard.
In computer forums I almost always misspell "install" as "isntall" ... I must be subcounsciously thinking (can you do that?) about "isn't all", eh?
@rcocean (9:49), other acts of violence that the news media have dropped down the memory hole include the murders of little Secoriea Turner, just 8 years old, and Jessica Doty Whitaker, 24 years old, who left behind a three year old child. Secoriea Turner was one black life nobody in BLM nor in the media cared very much about.
The "Healing Hands"!
One witness claimed around 10 people partaking in the pounding.
Will the 2 reveal the others?
Will there be a Free Kerrida movement?
"but his blog is littered with typos."
The Internet generally is littered with typos. It seems half the time, someone writes exactly the opposite of what he intends. He omits "not" or writes "blue" instead of "red" or confuses cause and effect: "The rain was blamed on the delay."
It makes me wonder if people really are going crazy or have they always been this muddle-headed?
That green haired guy should be taken off the streets for the children!
Speaking as one who is licensed through the WDHPS, they are pretty wortheless in enforcing professionalism. These women are not going to lose their licenses. The DHPS will make a deal with their teacher union paymasters to keep them employed. Remember how the DHPS "disciplined" UW hospital physicians for signing fraudulent sick notes...
Whether it was a Freudian slip or not — of course I never say it is! — it had an effect on me. I was forced to read and attempt to understand it before recognizing that it should be another word. In the instant that I tried to understand it as correct, my own mind was supplying the ideas. So it was Freudian from the point of view of the reader, the reader trying to think of what the writer intended to say. In that moment, I could see the magnitude of white privilege. Whether it's in Turley's head — this idea of giving special treatment to these 2 suspects because they are white women — I do not know. But surely Turley — surely, Turley... — would censor such a thought if he had it and had the chance to filter it out.
They're giving titles to the inmates.

"CLAIM: 'Teachers are the number one occupation of the antifa terrorist organization according to the FBI.'
AP’S ASSESSMENT: False."
The false element is that the FBI stated this which is probably true. But there's another problem: while many are employed in the education system a large number are administrative. So it's better to say they work in the education industry rather than they they are specifically teachers.
Hamer is an example as is the infamous bike-lock attacker who was in an administrative department (IT?) at Berkeley. Other antifa members have been identified as financial aid employees. In the education system administrative positions seem to be filled based on political reliability and who is more dedicated to leftism than antifa members? This is very similar to how others leftist activists on campus position themselves for careers via their campus extremism. Think of their campus antics as extended job interviews.
Believe me, these two women will face no employment problems, and the charges will likely be dropped at some moment when no one is still watching.
A concussion is a serious injury- I have had one before- 23 years ago. The effects lasted for several months.
And not only will the charges be dropped, they never would have been filed in the first place if the assaulted guy hadn't been a gay Democrat politician.
Unfortunately, a concussion will likely be considered substantial bodily injury, a middle step between bodily injury and great bodily injury. With all the attention on TBI and CTE in head-banging sports these days, how much we seem now to care about those who willing engage in those sports, and improved diagnostics for brain trauma, trauma that could turn from innocuous to life threatening at almost any time, legislatures ought to codify concussions as GBI. Absent any other grievous harm to Carpenter, who didn’t seek immediate medical treatment, I doubt the Carin’s will be punished for causing GBI.
A 31 year old woman I know was attacked two years ago by one of her special-needs charges and was concussed. She still gets blinding headaches, nausea, and has trouble reading and engaging in prolonged intellectual thought.
They are sadistic educated bitties. Wonder how many of their clients they have been mean to in their careers?

You are conflating very different fields, but yes. People in the mental health industry often become interested in the field because of their own childhood issues. That's not a whole lot different than guys who become auto mechanics because they loved driving and tinkering with cars as teenagers.
Well trained professionals (i.e. those with legit social science Ph.D.s) tend to avoid cultish Freudian theory, but still use his terminology on a regular basis with concepts such as ego, projection, denial and Freudian slip. Freud was a pretty good theoretician in days when they lacked true social scientific methodology to test theory. He was an even better wordsmith, but he was not in any way a scientist.
Did you see the video? Those are trained attack lesbians. Seriously, everybody else is just standing around going, Duh? Those two self-selected as the two cadre to go beat up that rather harmless-looking older male. And thye got right on the job.
Big Mike said...

No. When hired into the Illinois education system Bill Ayers had no teaching or educational experience having spent his entire adult life first building bombs and then as a fugitive. Nevertheless he achieved entry and advancement. Apparently all the people (tens of thousands?) who spent those decades working in education failed to achieve similar qualifications which suggests the primary qualification was being willing to kill Americans for his politics.
Hamer isn't quite to his level but beating up someone to protect antifa shows a pretty strong committment which will qualify her to similar institutions.
Yeah, well I have plenty of service to offer clients that would be difficult for them to get elsewhere. If I commit felony assault, though, I would expect to get my license lifted and do time; who loses any possible benefits I may provide shoudlnt't enter into the discussion. Would it if I were a woman and/or BIPOC? Probably. Should it? Hell no. The "moment of weakness" argument might be more credible if the assault victim had done anything at all to provoke the attack. The attack, however, was unrelated to anything the victim had done. The perps need to do prison time, and their professional licenses need to be revoked. Let this kind of behavior slide and you get a lot more of it, which is why we have nightly riots in Portland.
Six years ago I was in an accident. I suffered, amongst other things, a concussion. Also called a Mild Traumatic Brain Injury or MTBI. I spent 2 1/2 years in a fog of incredible pain from the headache, double-vision, memory loss, and cognitive issues. I was forced to retire early and to this day still have headaches 24 hours a day. The distinction now is whether the headache is a 3-4 or a 8-9. I lose one or two days every week from 8-9 headaches. And that doesn't include the time to recover as they are also physically exhausting. Anecdote? Yes. But Sen. Carpenter faces very real prospects of extended symptoms like mine. Hamer and O'Reilly should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and their licenses revoked. After inflicting intentional violence on an innocent person for political reasons they don't get to hide behind their "carer" status now. And to rub it in I hope Sen. Carpenter and his insurance carrier also plan a civil suit. If those two aren't already judgement proof, they can be made so.
Howard: "Both girls look like they should be dressed in straight jackets and locked in padded rooms."
Then they are clearly ready for accelerated promotion within democrat political operations.
Believe me, these two women will face no employment problems, and the charges will likely be dropped at some moment when no one is still watching.
@Yancey, I'm sure you're right.
As for the subject of Turley's typos, regular readers of Turley's blog have grown accustomed to them. He in fact mentions them on a regular basis. "Many on this blog routinely point out such typos, which are something of an embarrassing signature for me. I usually get up around 5 am to write blogs before caffeine fully takes hold." Sometimes a typo is just a typo.
White liberals don't really "care" in the sense that the would do selfless things for all other people.
They only care about appearing to care. Acting in a caring way so that they can be praised by other caring liberals. Caring only about the popular things that get you acclaim. Virtue Signalling.
Virtue Signalling while you destroy other people's lives.
Look at ME!!! See how much I care! I care so much that I am going to firebomb this small bodega that is the life's work of some random guy For the CAUSE that we all must CARE about!!! .I really really must care about some abstract thing that makes me look good in the eyes of my other caring friends.
In the meantime, the guy whose business and life was destroyed. Oh well. But I CARE!!!!
I disagree that it's a typo. The case is not what he's referring to. He's referring specifically to that part of the case that is the "care" (or maybe "concern" would be better word) about their licensing. If he said "case", it would be imprecise writing in my opinion.
If they truly believe that Black lives matter, they should willingly accept the full punishment for their actions both (a) to show that they are so committed to the cause that they are willing to suffer confinement for it (one of the tenets of civil disobedience, after all) and (b) to show solidarity with the Black man by refusing a punishment that is less than what a Black man in the same position would have received.
Whether it's in Turley's head — this idea of giving special treatment to these 2 suspects because they are white women — I do not know. But surely Turley — surely, Turley... — would censor such a thought if he had it and had the chance to filter it out.
-----
One would HOPE that Turley would censor such a thought. And I am not saying that he wouldn't. However, it seems very clear to me that a significant and growing number of people hold thoughts they believe are self-evident - that others should be judged by tribal and racial membership and NOT at all by their actions. That is why criminal George Floyd gets a three day funeral held in different states but the poor black grandma who died alone in a nursing home, or tiny, innocent, murdered black girls do not. And it's also the reason for denying that "largely peaceful protests" are actually riots. Members of the correct tribe do not commit crimes, they work for justice. Your lying eyes are deceiving you. Those federal buildings are spontaneously combusting under the weight of decades of injustice, federal officers deserve to be blinded by lasers for their evil, and kindly white women who professionally care for children, provide necessary corporal punishment to fiends who stand in the way of progress. But they do so more in sadness than in anger, because they care.
Thus, the motivation for virtue signaling which is a form of you must "show your papers, comrade."
Because, really, that is what all of this is about. Convincing everyone that it is noble, good and virtuous to cause 500 million dollars worth of destruction in one city alone over the death of a criminal in custody. Meanwhile, providing no mention of the babies murdered because that might get people to thinking too hard about why there are police in the first place.
By the way, in your initial blog about this, you concluded with a separate, one-sentence paragraph:
Mug shots at the link.
I am curious why you thought to do this - to point out the sex or race of the two, to emphasize their level of (un)attractiveness, or some other reason?
They care so much, that they would drown a puppy with their own bare hands.
So if the man had a thicker skull, what they did would be less egregious? Not to me. They tried to seriously hurt the man, and had no concern for how he might be able to endure it. That was their intention. How well he endured it is not within their control and should not be mitigating. I feel the same about attempted murder. Wouldn't give the death penalty, but life in prison is called for if you really try to kill someone, unless the argument is that the accused is so bad at murder that they can't possibly be a threat, and they know they are that bad at it.
Rand Paul's attacker just had his sentence greatly extended. Good.
And why would they plea bargain it down when they have them dead to rights? Isn’t that for when they don’t want to risk a trial? That makes no sense except for the times we live in now. I will be shocked, shocked! I tell you if the prosecutor drops the charges as soon as the media coverage recedes. These c offices apparently can be bought for ready cash.

The victim can still sue the crap out of them.
*That* will make them "care".
Social justice is relativistic is injustice everywhere.
Some, Select Black Lives Matter is a Pro-Choice sect.
As for priorities, it is, with cause, women and children, first, where diversity does not rear its bigoted head.
Don't call him Surely.
Couldn't resist.
It seems to me that even if these two women aren't tried, Carpenter's Health Insurance Provider is going to hound them. Those who caused the injury should foot the bill.
"In computer forums I almost always misspell "install" as "isntall" ... I must be subcounsciously thinking (can you do that?) about "isn't all", eh?"
About 10 years ago, I noticed that I was making more typos than I used to. After further analysis, I realized that most of them involved getting two letters out of order that I type with different hands. That is, right-left timing issues. ns vs. sn.
@Jupiter
I saw Trained Attack Lesbians open for the Dead at the Cow Palace in '78.
I will point out, it may well be that the concussion resulted from getting kicked while he was on the ground, rather than being punched by a couple girls. I have been punched by a girl. I found it kind of amusing. Very different than being punched by a guy.
I see nothing in the excerpt you have quoted to suggest that Turley's thoughts (conscious or unconscious) would have been any different had the two women been similarly situated but black. Why do you assume that this is about race?
Justice is inidividual.
Social Justice, Racial Justice, and any other adjectival "justice" is just a power grab.
You know, I just took another look at those gals ... and I am not so sure that Samantha Hamer is female.
"this would seem a care almost certain to be handled in a plea agreement if prosecutors are in the bargaining mood"
You mean, there isn't going to be a parade for these mostly peaceful protesters?
And why would they plea bargain it down when they have them dead to rights?
i assumed that the ACTUAL typo, was that it was SUPPOSED to read:
Given the serious injury to the senator and the evidence that he did nothing to provoke the assault, this would seem a case almost certain NOT to be handled in a plea agreement
you'd think a Law Professor would have noticed that?
Ginger Beer... Get Botox injections (pain block). My wife was migraine bound up from auto accident. The Botox, injected by a pro pain doc, can provide immediate relief. Insurance covers it.
There must be a German word for an obsessive need to find the hidden meaning in typos.
Schreibfehlerbeschäftigung?
Justice is inidividual.
Justice exists in a universal frame of reference, otherwise it is relativistic (e.g. Pro-Choice). Or worse, it is class-based a la diversity dogma, Feminism, reproductive rites, some, select Black Lives Matter, social justice, Marxism, etc.
...but I watched myself in real time getting caught up in the word "care" and trying to understand it. Who knows when a typo is a Freudian slip?
Most typos these days are human mistakes compounded by the unintelligent behavior of so-called artificially intelligent spell-check software. Consequently, unless one knows that a given typographical error occurs in text rendered by hand or a traditional mechanism unassisted by error-correcting software the application of Freudian theory is completely inappropriate.
Parapraxis also extends to reading errors as well as to spoken or written errors. Who knows when a reader's reaction to a typo is a Freudian slip?
It is also inappropriate, however tempted I am to do so, to raise the subject of inappropriate application of the information processing concept of real time to human thought.
Don't call him Surely.
The mother see of the Church of Absolute Certainty is the Surely Temple.
Couldn't resist.
(Couldn't resist kinda sums your life, doesn't it, Readering?)
@jupiter:
Back in my super geek days I would buy a domain for a year so I could use it as my email spam catcher. I had astronautlovetriangle.com once.
Was I still that geeky, I would drop $18 on trainedattacklesbians.com right effin now.
I tip my cap, sir.

Is it just me, or does it seem like psychologists, counselors, behavioral specialist are typically very full of issues?
Issues? Hell, many of them have whole subscriptions, all arranged in nice boxed sets complete with indexes.
Those caring carers just about cared the senator into a caring coma.
White American women are the worst.
"White women be crazy : )
In any case they are a very protected and insulated set, at least where I live. You'll never see so many Lululemon pants, yoga mats, Range Rovers, Porsches, or personal trainers...life is good."
And don't forget ye ol' camel toe display..if they still have it ;)
The Captaian was correct on this, studying yoga at a socal community college in the 90's had it's ...challenges :D

After concluding that a handwritten typographical error is a non sequitur I was about to correct myself. Then I reconsidered. If someone is writing by hand in a linguistic system with insufficient fluency it is quite possible to commit the logical equivalent of a typographical error. Just as marginal typing skills lead to errors like teh for the, lack of fluency can lead to similar problems in handwriting which are not strictly errors of orthography. Many language groups, e.g. Scandivanian, Slavic, and Magyar, incorporate diacritical marks, the omission of same can change the meaning of a word or render it unintelligible. In Chinese just making the component strokes of a logogram out of prescribed order can be counted as a typographical error.
There must be a German word for an obsessive need to find the hidden meaning in typos.

@Publius
I've always said, God bless the person (must have been a man) that invented the painted-on yoga pants. But only true, of course, for the kind of women who work in the stores that sell them : )
On the other hand, I'm no spring chicken and have thought about cycling to stay in shape. But ironically, people my age who cycle are almost universally still fat...go figure.
"this would seem a care almost certain to be handled in a plea agreement if prosecutors are in the bargaining mood...."
Or maybe, this would seem a case certain to be handled in a plea agreement if the prosecutors care to...
Any remorse from the two women or is it just more we hate white men bullshit?
And I agree with exiled: Hamer should be nowhere near children. Were I a parent in Mt. Horeb, I'd insist she be kept away from my child when she comes back to work.
Turley has become a super star the last couple years.
We are all wretched and broken, except for those in the caring professions: They have certificates stating as much.

Professor, I was tracking you until you ended with that statement. Is BLM a Freudian slip?
As far as the two "women" from Madison...meh. They engaged in rioting and assault and battery. Choices and actions have consequences. All the caring of the carers or the caring for the careers of the carers ends once the lawman arrives. "He ain't gonna let those two escape justice."
Ken B said...My theme for these cases is: Krenwinkle. The affect, attitude, and behavior of these rioting AWFULs reminds me of the Manson family women at their trial. And Krenwinkle is still in prison.
Sorry, but even Charlie had better taste in tuna than the likes of Hamer.
A great throwaway domain name should also be able to double as a band name.
I owned hugebigtimeplayers.com for a while. It was sort of an inside baseball joke in Chicago politics.
Huge Big Time Players would be a blues band.
Astronaut Love Triangle would be an alt-country band, maybe bluegrass.
Trained Attack Lesbians would be a punk band, natch.
I also had righteousstrikingfist.com, which would be the J-Pop/metal band.

She’s 26. How much of a “specialist” can she be? Seriously. She may have a “special” degree or license. But she couldn’t have been practicing very long.

I'll say this, dealing with developmentally disabled and emotionally handicapped children, DD/EH, AKA helmet heads, is extremely draining and ungratifying. Very unpleasant work, very little hope of positive outcomes. I don't think that many people volunteer for that profession so much as fall into it, i.e. assigned to the tards (I'm using language a very fine teacher has used, privately, to me).
Miss Petunia might not be in that position long and might want out. Not that this was a conscious route but her likely lack of pleasure in her work may have contributed to her recklessness. She wants out, give her out.

Back at his office, Arkady sat in front of his cabinet and went through his files. He began with
crimes by firearm.
Murder. A lathe operator returns home to find his wife screwing a naval officer, and in the
ensuing struggle the worker uses the officer's gun on its owner. The court took into consideration
that the officer should not have been carrying a gun, that the defendant was attested by his union
to be a diligent laborer, and that he repented his act. Sentence: ten years' deprivation of freedom.
Aggravated murder. Two black marketeers fall out over a division of profits and both are
amazed, one fatally, when a rusty Nagurin pistol works. Profit is the aggravating circumstance.
Sentence: death.
Armed assault. (Some assault.) A boy with a wooden replica of a gun removes two rubles from a drunk. Sentence: five years.
(Gorky Park, Martin Cruz Smith, 1981)
Who, whom.
Be attractive. Don't be unattractive.
Be Left. Don't be Right.
I don't know about WI, but the Arizona State Board of Nursing mandates that, "All felony charges must be reported to the Board of Nursing within 10 working days after the charge is filed." Certain enumerated misdemeanors, including misdemeanor assault, also have a mandatory, 10-day reporting requirement. The report will automatically trigger an investigation that may result in anything ranging from a "letter of concern" to revocation of license. These women are not nurses, but professional licensing authorities have a duty to protect the public from individuals who are at risk for harming the public or their profession.
