"The only thing I’ll tell you is she never spoke directly to a person. She always spoke through her dog, and in a baby voice. It was really bizarre."

Said a 60-year-old woman named Maria Meade, who lived near Amy Cooper, the woman in the story "How 2 Lives Collided in Central Park, Rattling the Nation/The inside story of the black birder and the white woman who called the police on him. Their encounter stirred wrenching conversations about racism and white privilege" (NYT).
Another neighbor, Marisol De Leon, 40, said Ms. Cooper frequently walked Henry unleashed, and became irate when told not to. “There was a sense of entitlement,” Ms. De Leon said.

Alison Faircloth, 37, a neighbor and dog owner, recalled that last winter, she came upon Ms. Cooper on the verge of tears outside the building’s lobby. A doorman had cursed at her for no reason, Ms. Cooper told her. Ms. Cooper vowed to get the doorman fired, Ms. Faircloth said. But when Ms. Faircloth asked the doorman what had happened, he told her that Ms. Cooper had complained about a broken elevator, then cursed at him after she barged into a security booth and had to be removed by a guard.

“There’s always a narrative from her about someone who has done her wrong,” Ms. Faircloth said.
ADDED: Bob Boyd said:
It's too bad nobody got her on video cursing the door man through her dog in a baby voice.

I'd like to see that.

Derbyshire on that incident

Well, here was the first episode this week. A professional young white woman took her dog to New York's Central Park. In a secluded area called the Ramble, much favored by bird-watchers, she let her dog off the leash, which she shouldn't have — there are posted signs against it.

A large black man, a bird-watcher, took objection to her breaking the rules. She took objection to his having taken objection. He responded with the words, quote: "Look, if you're going to do what you want, I'm going to do what I want, but you're not going to like it."

Scared, she called the police on her cellphone, telling them a black man was threatening her … except that she didn't say "black," she used the cant descriptor "African American." She seems to be a standard-issue New York City Goodwhite.

The black man had departed without further incident by the time the cops arrived, and they took no action. He had filmed the encounter, though, and the video was posted on social media. The white woman was fired from her job and gave up the dog. She is now probably unemployable.

You get the impression from the video that the woman is somewhat highly-strung, the man somewhat obnoxious. Neither thing is a firing offense, though.

To the main point, she was quite right to be scared. A small white woman, alone in a secluded place with a large black male stranger using threatening words: of course she was scared.

Black men commit sexual assault and rape against white women with such frequency, the federal government ceased publishing the numbers some years ago, when the slide into denial accelerated under the Obama administration.

I am told that the Bureau of Justice Statistics still collects those numbers, but dare not publish them. Still, even with the media trying their best to hide the facts, it's hard not to be aware of them, especially in a big city with lots of blacks and single young white women.

So a young professional woman was justifiably scared. Because it was a black man that caused her to be scared — deliberately, you can't help thinking, based on those words he spoke — the young woman's life has been wrecked.

Like Congressman Pittenger, she has done a full grovel, whining that she is not a racist. It hasn't helped her. Her fellow Goodwhites have expelled her from the charmed circle of right-thinking citizens. She dwells in outer darkness, and will for ever.

This is how we live now.

Maybe we should tell the doorman what happens to doormen that don't mind their own beeswax?"

Doorman: "What the hell, Ms. Cooper?"

Ms. Cooper, with head spinning around and eyes bulging out: "CovFeFe doesn't like people telling us what to do, do we, CovFeFe? Maybe we need to teach some of these people their place, huh? Maybe? What's that? You think it's time we got a new Doorman? Hmm..."

Which is slightly weird, but not nearly as weird as thinking that she interacts like this at all times. She has an MBA from a good school and a respectable work history, so there's really no reason to think she can't function normally in the real world.

The love life story (which is fleshed out more fully in the article and not in the snippet here) is what I think makes Ms Cooper sound odd. She had some kind of relationship with a former co-worker Mr. Priest -- Ms Cooper calls it an affair; Mr. Priest says she is delusional and a stalker. She lent or gave Mr. Priest $65,000, to facilitate (she says) Mr. Priest's divorce and to pay for an abortion for another of Mr. Priest's girlfriends. Mr. Priest did get a divorce and then remarried someone else (not Ms Cooper). Ms Cooper then became close with Mr. Priest's divorced wife, so friendly that now vacation together.

Rape by black men of white women is a high incidence crime. The black guy phrased his reply to her exactly to alarm her in that regard. They're in exactly the setting that happens in. So don't be surprised that she's rationally alarmed. An important component is that it's a black guy. She knows it and the police know it.

As to the problem of the blacks, isn't that the long-standing problem? It's been coming up forever in the national consciousness. Derb suggest it persists because the discussion gets further and further from reality. Reality would solve it.

I'm more optimistic than Derb. Derb thinks impulse control and such things are genetic as well and so it's hopeless, I say they're learned. That's how you teach males good character. It's not a natural thing. It's Lord of the Flies, left to its own inclinations, regardless of race.

But teaching blacks good character can't come up in public discussion. You can't solve what you can't talk about.

The NY Post has another article about Amy Cooper's recent past behavior. It supports the idea that her weird behavior in so many ways is reflective of serious psychological and or psychophysiological issues consistent with High Functioning Autism or Asberger's.

https://nypost.com/2020/05/26/amy-cooper-once-claimed-her-ex-lover-bilked-her-out-of-65k/

Amy has an undergraduate degree in actuarial science from the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada) and an MBA in analytical science from the University of Chicago. Those are impressive credentials that got her previous jobs at AIG, Citi, Lehman Brothers, and Willis Towers Watson (a large publicly-traded risk advisory firm that I never heard of before).

A Google search: "Actuary" "Aspergers" OR "High Functioning Autism" yielded 50,900 hits. The first one was an Institution Investor article titled

'They Get Fired All the Time. And They Have No Idea Why'.

https://www.institutionalinvestor.com/article/b1gq9tqwk8z108/They-Get-Fired-All-the-Time-And-They-Have-No-Idea-Why

The Google Scholar search: Psychophysiology Aspergers OR "High Functioning Autism" yielded 5,140 results.

One of the more recent ones:

J Autism Dev Disord. 2019; 49(6): 2524–2535.

Emotional Arousal During Social Stress in Young Adults With Autism: Insights From Heart Rate, Heart Rate Variability and Self-Report

"...In conclusion, these findings suggest reduced physiological self-regulation to psychosocial stress in young adults with ASD. Furthermore, these findings suggest that regardless of their high functioning in daily life -as reflected in high education levels and high IQ-, most of these young adults with ASD show fundamental deviations in their arousal regulation compared to their TD peers. Deficits in arousal regulation may result in being overwhelmed by emotions, which interferes with competent functioning in social situations, but may also impair the overall quality of life (Adrian et al. 2011; Mennin et al. 2007; Thompson et al. 2008). By investigating the relation of HRV with social behaviors, for example in an interactive setting, and the effect of emotion regulation training on cardiac control in ASD, it will be possible to determine whether ANS functioning is an important underlying mechanism of social behavior in autism."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6546666/

Instead of having shrink or Heart Rate Variability (HRV) therapy, IMO Amy would likely benefit from a QEEG assessment. This can identify problems of connectivity or amplitude in regions of the brain. (These issues typically result from damage caused by autoimmune damage from inflammation in the brain from a poorly modulated immune system.)

Interventions to correct the EEG problems include QEEG-guided transcranial direct stimulation followed by transcranial alternating current stimulation and EEG biofeedback (AKA neurofeedback). The problem is that the reliability of QEEG software varies greatly, depending on the vendor. The competence of clinicians using this software can also be a problem, along the lines of: "Six months I couldn't spell teacher and now I are one."

But I've seen some dramatic improvements of brain function in clients of competent practitioners in a relatively short period of time.

The now Open-Access Elsevier journal "Brain Stimulation" offers a lot of good articles on these modalities.
