I'll just show you one example of the mockery I've seeing of this poor couple, who were beset by a mob and unable to get help from the police.

That went up this morning — after it's been in the news that these people are not uneducated right-wingers. They are lawyers (i.e., educated) and they are Democrats (with a record of donations). [UPDATE: Snopes says the reports that he donated to Democrats were wrong — mistaking him for someone else with the same name: "According to the FEC, the McCloskey in the viral video made multiple donations to the Republican National Committee, to the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, and to Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. in 2016 and 2017."]

Here's some background on the couple, Mark and Patricia McCloskey (at KMOV4).

From Instapundit's post about the couple: "A friend on Facebook observes that although the wife clearly knows nothing about guns, she armed up and stood by her man. You could do worse — though please, go take some lessons now."

And here's Mark McCloskey explaining himself:

The reports on political donations were wrong. They have given a fair bit of money to Republicans, less to Democrats. Too bad. Them being full-fledged Democrats would have been a good excuse for her poor trigger discipline.

Unfortunately the couple have Stockholm Syndrome and still claim to support BLM. Meanwhile elected Democrats in DC are calling for Antifa to murder these two Democrat voters who were caught protecting themselves. How 2020 all in all. Bet they vote for Trump anyway.

The nation's new power couple. There's millions more like them out there. From all walks of life.

What's interesting is how the 'protesters' back down when faced with a situation where their DA and politician allies can't bail them out. It doesn't have to be the threat of deadly force. Federal charges and the threat of jail time will do the trick.

They'll all run back to their jobs on campus and at the law firm...

rehajm म्हणाले...

...and yes, she needs better trigger discipline.

Perfect example of three things:

1. When seconds count, the police are minutes away.

2. Liberals get the bullet too.

3. The district attorney is threatening to prosecute these two when all sorts of other criminal activity goes unpunished. This is straight out of "The Bonfire of the Vanities."

And a little more context is needed. The trespassers were on the way to the Mayor's house to scream at her for releasing public information that they didn't like. The white female Mayor of St. Louis is a Democrat. In 1995, her husband was killed in a carjacking attempt in which she and her kids were present. Since elected Mayor, she's vowed to reduce crime. It has only gone up.

I also looked at the lawyers' Yelp page. Full of comments calling them both racists, saying they should be disbarred and jailed.

Given the above, why would anyone vote Dem? Trump is the only thing between civilization and chaos.

She will be lucky not to get arrested and charged with multiple felonies. Based on what I saw, she pointed a deadly weapon at dozens of people, and at least from the videos I've seen, there was no imminent threat to her, just a lot of people trespassing on a private street and yelling.

In Florida, that would be a slam dunk Aggravated Assault arrest.

He generally held his AR at the low ready, which gives him some defense against a similar charge.

She was basically using her firearm as a pointer. I've seen many inexperienced people do this on the range and it's terrifying...

Just to be clear: walking into the open with your firearms when facing a mob is not a good tactical decision.

It would only take 2-3 people coordinating from opposing directions to take them both down. And the opposition wouldn’t need firearms, maybe some well thrown bricks to distract and harm and disorient.

On the flip side they definitely accomplished their goal.

Claiming that one supports BLM does not mean as much as you think it means. There is a motte and bailey situation going on. BLM can mean support for anti-racism and police reform. That's not a controversial position and has wide support across all political stripes. However, the BLM organization is a radical left-wing/Marxist organization that wants a race war or equivalent, even if its membership does not always realize that, and has been violently rioting and engaging in intimidation that verges on terrorism. One can easily support the former and not the latter. However, those who wish to control will use the motte and bailey fallacy for all it is worth.

For those of you who don't get it, that's a private street that is not open to the public. The protesters had to violently break down the metal gate to access it, which very much invalidates the argument that this was a peaceful protest. If you think dozens of angry people breaking into your property and trespassing does not qualify as a concern, I am not sure what you would consider a concern. When granted the luxury, it is generally not wise to wait for home invaders to start smashing and burning things before you decide to act.

If your claim is they could have handled it better, well, sure. Every gun owner could have several years of professional firearm training combined with a conflict resolution seminar, and then perfectly address a stressful situation that most people will never face. If you think that a reasonable position, I am not sure what else to say.

Luckily the FL police aren't f'ing around and the "mostly peaceful" protestors only trashed some cars and did some spray paint vandalism. Might have been the over 200 cops "around" the scene.

I consider the edge of my home to be at the gate to our property.

The likelihood of our area being mobbed is pretty small..probably nil. The likelihood of an increase in robbery and other crimes using BLM as an excuse....pretty damn good. Better safe than sorry.

Zooming also lets me see the fingernail of her husband’s trigger finger, so his finger is outside the trigger guard. I’m going to talk about this picture with my wife. If something like this happens (unlikely, given the number of well-armed neighbors Freder’s “peaceful” mob would have to walk past!) I want her where we have a crossfire on potential assailants, not the other way around.

In addition to lessons and range time for his wife, he should treat her to a pistol-caliber carbine. Two long guns instead of one.

The "peaceful protest" included:

Breaking the gate,

threat to burn down their house.

It's interesting to note all this happened before the residents came out with guns. So Freder's position boils down to a left wing mob can do literally anything except lynch people and be determined "peaceful", and a lynching would only downgrade it to "mostly peaceful".

Meanwhile anyone reacting to the mob at all - even matching something the mob did - is out of line. This is why left wingers in charge of anything is disastrous. They're so politically biased they can't judge anything reasonably.

He might as well just admit he believes laws shouldn't apply to blacks and left wingers.

Serious question to those who feel they overreacted.

You have seen the mobs beat multiple people badly, burn down innocent people's property, and you know they have shot and killed innocent people as well. So how long do you wait until you arm yourself after they break down the gate and start toward your house and then walk onto your lawn and threaten you. Remember, the cops are not coming, not in time, and probably not even today. The amped-up, self-righteous and mindless mob can do whatever they want to you, your loved ones, and your property without being stopped by anybody but you. Nobody is going to help you. You don't know who is in the crowd, how unhinged they may be, or what crazy ideas they hold about you and yours.

I would have stayed inside with cover and warned them when they got close, but they did not seem to have the tactical training that would tell them that was better, but we should not all need to have tactical training to protect our lives. The people who break the law and terrorize people in their homes are the ones responsible for what that causes terrified people to do. Those homeowners were justifiably fearing great bodily harm from that mob. You would have to be stupid not to.

It's just a matter of time before someone steps on the pedal and runs them over. The people who get run over will claim martyr status, and the driver who panics will become demonized. He might get off in a trial, but his life will be ruined. Not so much as the life of Reginald Denny, but ruined nonetheless......There was an implied threat in the behavior of those demonstrators who were mostly peaceful when they weren't tearing down fences. You can use menace as a negotiating tactic and it works fine until such time as it doesn't.

First and foremost, she did not have trigger discipline because her fingers should have been outside of the trigger guard at all times.
Second, violated handgun safety because she pointed and swept the gun towards people. Never point a gun at anything you are not preparing to shoot right then and there.
Similarly, she should not have been waving the gun around at all. I would not have gone outside the way that they did, but if I had, I would hold a handgun 2-handed, arms extended and pointing clearly towards the ground.

With guns.

I don't know why you find it acceptable for people to brandish guns at peaceful protesters.

Because that's the best way to make sure they stay peaceful.

To be precise progressives are only concerned about kids deaths when they are politically useful. Bias is not technically part of the requirement, although in practice it tends to turn out the same.

It's just a matter of time before someone steps on the pedal and runs them over. The people who get run over will claim martyr status, and the driver who panics will become demonized.

@William (1:23), it already happened. August 12, 2017. James Alex Fields will spend the rest of his life in prison. Inga claims Heather Heyer is a martyr.

And now we have STL local reporters (Channel 5) telling us and showing at least 1 rioter pulled out an AK-47 when the mob reached the mayor's house.

Does anyone have a link to this? I can't seem to find it via Web search.

It's an important detail it seems.

Correct. But it is not an "point your gun at anybody on your lawn" state. A zealous prosecutor could make a case against the wife, I would think, for repeatedly pointing her pistol directly at any number of people.

And let me hasten to add I hope that doesn't happen, and I hope they have video from their side that shows clearly what they saw and were reacting to.

You probably missed my exchange with former Marine, ever vigilant Krumhorn about the silliness of his dreams of an armed response to BLM thugs. He went on about he and his wife had to be very careful about what they said in public because they would jeopardize their Boutique Law Firm. I then went on to make fun of him as a Boutique Attorney. Truth is stranger than fiction.

Your car hypo is my vague recollection of what started Sherman McCoy's troubles in Tom Wolfe's "The Bonfire of the Vanities."

I didn't read along when Ann did her re-reading and posts of it.

Wolfe really predicted all of this. I remain convinced that attorney Ben Crump in FL read the book and that's how he positioned Travyon Martin as a scholar and cute kid when he was far, far from it. His plan worked as he got millions from the homeowners' associations insurer.

Crump is not representing the Floyd Estate. City of Minneapolis will pay out a fortune.

Just to be clear: walking into the open with your firearms when facing a mob is not a good tactical decision.

Maybe. But they might have felt their alternative—cowering inside waiting for the molotov cocktails—was worse.

It would only take 2-3 people coordinating from opposing directions to take them both down. And the opposition wouldn’t need firearms, maybe some well thrown bricks to distract and harm and disorient.

This is true. Had that occurred they might have been happy just to take Five or ten—or fifteen—miscreants out with them.

On the flip side they definitely accomplished their goal.

They vanquished their enemies, saw them driven before them, and heard the lamentations of the women. This is best in life.

Why I just bought an M-1 Carbine for my wife, and a crate of 1080 rounds. These protesting people have no intention of stopping unless confronted with armed force. Congratulations leftists, you just made everyone re-arm and build up ammo stockpiles after the earlier crisis died down. Cast 50 9mm bullets yesterday - more bullets than brass, but that can change.

West Texas Intermediate Crude, Missouri has the castle doctrine in force. If someone comes on your property, you have no requirement to retreat. This goes double if it is an armed mob that broke down your gate. If they try to prosecute him, they will almost certainly lose. Last I knew the police were investigating criminal charges... against the protesters.

Fox News? So CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and the rest supported their right to protect their home and lives from the mob? Only Fox. Interesting.
I do wonder why this millionaire couple that only contribute to Democrats chose to exercise the second amendment privileges that they want to deny everyone else. Of course I'm stupid enough to wonder why they weren't overpowered and torn limb from limb by the enormous mob. Sure, three or four may have been shot but they could have overwhelmed the very wealthy and scrupulously honest lawyers in seconds. It's almost as though the protesters weren't deadly serious and dedicated to the mission.

I saw him last night on, I believe, Tucker Carlson, and he had someone, I think is apparently his attorney, by his side. If you listened carefully, he probably didn’t say anything that might ultimately hurt him in court. He was being very careful in what he said. If my memory serves me right, the last question was to their attorney who responded that they had a really strong case, and if they get charged, it will be completely political, by a highly biased, DA who has a record of political prosecutions. That is something that McClisky can’t really say, but his attorney, being an advocate, can.

Completely agree with Begley, a practicing attorney, here. Though I think that there will be an indictment. The DA (equivalent) has made her name on abusing her office making political charging decisions. Like the DA in FL who indicted, and brought George Zimmerman to trial for one of the best justified self defense killings in recent FL history. The MO DA here is apparently Soros funded, and likely, by that, to make a gun control case out of it, just because she can, and would be doing her party for the Marxist revolution by doing so.
